It's Tuesday. Birthdays: Jacques Guerlain, Desmond Tutu, Yo-Yo Ma. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a drop of Après L’Ondée, for Jacques Guerlain. Tea at the moment is Bombay Breakfast from The Jasmine Pearl Tea Co.
Reminder: on 10/10, wear a fragrance with nutmeg, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Luo Han Teapot ("This gorgeous Yixing teapot is made from genuine forty-year-old zisha (purple-sand) clay. They are all handmade by Master Chen Ju Fang of Master Zhou’s “Wu Xing Shan Fang” studio (she is his wife). We had “Light Meets Life” stamped on the bottom of these pots. This is an "arhat" shaped teapot. Arhats are Buddhist saints. The pot is said to resemble a saint seated in meditation, especially if you cover the handle and spout" is $300 at Global Tea Hut.
Hello.
Sotd is Guerlain Tobacco Honey. The weather is still too warm to really wear this but I can wait no longer!
I am a total baby and can’t deal with horror films but my Netflix page is filled with all these scary recommendations that I am “tempted” to click into one of them.
I too am a total baby when it comes to the horror genre, it’s just not for me. And I hate the scary pictures that are all over IMDB right now, too.
I’m a you re horror genre. Life is scary enough.
Can’t do scary movies at all. Nope nope nope. the first “Jurassic Park” is pretty much my limit.
Listening to NPR this morning, I heard a story about humpback whales off the coast of Australia. They played a recording of a single whale’s song, and it was so hauntingly beautiful—it actually brought me to tears. There’s something so moving about hearing that kind of wild, natural music.
I am trying a new riding stable today after that awful lesson on Friday. Wish me luck.
House twining with Robin: I will also wear a Guerlain fragrance for Mr. Guerlain’s birthday-Encens Mythique
Tea is Bois Cherie
As you know, I love your scent. I even have a BUB since I have given our so many samples of it.
As a lucky recipient, thank you Kris!
You are more than welcome.
Twins in Encens Mythique!
Re humpback whales, you might enjoy Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home which features humpbacks.
We smell good twin
So haunting, Kanuka.
Hope today’s ride was much improved over your previous one.
Happy teapot tuesday!
No tea today, just clear water for hydration. SOTD is dabbed on Chanel Cuir de Russie extrait. My partner had some sinus problems over the weekend and was very affected by perfume spraying. They had asked me to spray less but it felt unfair to police how much perfume I could wear, so we settled on airing the room out post-spray instead.
Oh dear, hope the sinus problems clear up!
Hope your partner is feeling better soon. Sinus issues suck.
I am wearing Stash SJP today, which is a new full bottle. I think I had a decant years ago, but I couldn’t remember what it smelled like, so it was almost an unsniffed full bottle purchase. Luckily it was inexpensive, so everything worked out. I really like it. I am never sure which celebrity scents are worth buying, but this one was certainly worth the price.
I love Stash, you smell wonderful.
I also love Stash. I like to wear it when the weather gets colder in late fall.
Chanel No. 22 – it has nutmeg according to some sources. A beautiful scent!
Love 22, you smell like an aldehydic angel!
“Aldehydic angel” is a very accurate description of this scent. Love it!
Happy Tuesday, everyone.
Wearing what I hope is an office-friendly spritz of L’Eau D’Hiver under my shirt.
Well, if any of your colleagues catch a waft of LEdH, lucky them. You smell wonderful, Daniel.
Wearing Cheirosa 62 for work today. It is 65 degrees out and Cheirosa 62 might not be the most appropriate since it is so cool out. Tomorrow will be Theorema since it I work on Friday and I refuse to ruin it with going to work.
I actually wear the Bum Bum Cream with other perfumes during the cooler months so I think you can wear it anytime.
Which perfumes do you layered it with?
It is really good with Indochine and I think I wore it with the new Shalimar.
Agree, Theorema is too good for work!
Hi everyone 👋
Ahhh, a cooler rainy day at last! I got up incredibly early this morning morning and witnessed the first of the rain in over two weeks. The petrichor was marvelous!
Wearing Dior Addict over Truly vanilla oil.
You guys know that I have taken care of my 98 year old mother for a number of years. Saturday night she had a memory lapse and called me at 10:30 unable to take her pills. She had just finished playing the NYT Spelling Bee on the phone with my sister and suddenly didn’t know what to do. Blank. I went out right away and got her meds down and she didn’t show any other symptoms of stroke but I’m getting her into her doctor. She’s been showing a general slowdown for the last few weeks. She is totally ready to die, we’ve talked it all through many times and I feel ready, too. I feel we’re reaching the end, for her sake, I hope so. I don’t want her to have to be moved.
98 years is truly a long life. Hope her final days are as peaceful and comfortable as can be.
Thank you, pfsh 🦋
I’m with you here. My 95-year-old grandmother is still sharp as a tack, but slowing down and keeps pointing it out. She’s also ready to go; Grandpa’s been gone for over a decade years and all her siblings are gone, even the ones much younger. Two of her kids are also gone. (Incredibly, though, her two best friends, also her age, are still right there with her.) In some ways, I feel ready…or, it’s more that I understand that she’s ready to go, yet I will be sad when she does.
I’ll be sad, too. She’s such a big part of my life.
That’s so wonderful about your mom’s best friends! I bet they keep each other going.
Gosh, ringthing, how bittersweet. A beautiful long life. And if she’s doing NYT games still, a remarkably lucid one. Sending you 🤗
Yes, she and my sister play the spelling bee regularly, and mom likes wordle. Until this time blip, she’s very sharp for her age.
I empathise completely with you and your mother, old age can be cruel.
Thank you Gaynor.
Lovingly written, ringthing. 💐
As Jane Goodall said before she died, ” its the next great adventure”.
Let’s hope your mothers’ is an amazing one.
Wishing both you and your mom peace and comfort.🤗🤗. I lost both of my parents suddenly at very young ages so never got to see them enjoy long lives like your mom. Bless you for taking such good care of her.
98! I hope her remaining days are peaceful and whenever she goes for however long it takes, she’s peaceful.
Sending great big hugs and strength, ringthing! ❤️
Peace to everyone, ringthing, may everything happen as it should.
98 years old and being in relatively good health for so long is amazing. I hope that whatever comes next is not long and drawn out for either one of you. Hugs.
Lot’s of love and peace to you and your Mom.
Sending more love to you and your family💕
No points for me today, but I’m here to tell you that IA’s new The Abandoned Mansion in EDP form is a winner! That’s two entirely successful FB blind buys in the span of two weeks — surely some kind of a record, and I promise to stop now. 🙄
Oh, good to know, thanks! I think 🤔
I have to wear mine again because it got mixed up with something I wore the other day.
Ha, do quit while you are ahead!
Would you call it a safe blind buy, or not?
Well, if you like Memoirs of a Trespasser, and you don’t mind the dusty-paper note in Bois d’Armenie or Encre Noire (or even Memoirs), then yes, I think it’s a safe blind buy. It’s not as rich or boozy as Memoirs, but it has good staying power (I can still smell it on my wrist after 10 hours) and I find it autumnal and comforting.
Since I haven’t tried any of those scents, I would say for me The Abandoned Mansion would not be safe.
I need to put a pause on perfume purchases anyway and start thinning the herd.
Fragrance free for now. The weather has cooled off, and it’s cloudy after rain showers last night and earlier this morning. I believe we’re finally heading into fall weather. Sunshine expected later this afternoon, which should be lovely.
Mostly, I just dropped by to wish everyone a good day!
And a good day to you too !
HGAD back atcha!
I’m in Halfeti today, which has nutmeg in there somewhere, though I can’t pick it out individually. I grabbed it from the dish of cute mini bottles I keep on my counter. I probably haven’t worn it since I first got it in the NM Advent calendar a couple of years ago, but I’m enjoying it quite a bit.
Oh good!
Hi everyone! Just stopping in for a minute as we are still in North Carolina enjoying the grandkids. I went shopping in Pinehurst yesterday and bought a bottle of Eau D’Italie. It is apparently associated with the Hotel Le Sirenuse in Positano, Italy. I have never been there, but maybe someone here has had the chance. Anyway, probably a bit expensive for it, but I’m on vacation so why not? It is a beautiful Chypre but sadly is not long lasting. It will be a nice scent for summer next year.
SOTD is Gucci Bloom since I am just using travel sprays this week.
Hope you are all doing well. If you don’t hear from me, I will be back the end of next week.
That’s a beautiful scent Kris. You’re right perfect for summer. If you’re at all interested in seeing La Sireneuse in action, there’s a rom-com called Only You, with Oscar winners Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr shot on location. Dreamy locale, excellent supporting cast and director. Somehow all those elements don’t come together as well as one would hope, but for romantic travelogue type films it hits the mark.
Enjoy the rest of your visit and your well-stocked travel sprays.
Thanks. I didn’t know about that film.
So, you are familiar with the scent. I didn’t know if many had tried it. I really like it. I tried it on at the store and then bought it right away. Since I didn’t apply a lot, I didn’t think it seemed to last very long, but maybe when I spray with abandon, it may be a different story. Hope so!
I think it’s a scent for basking and basking.
Enjoy your visit!
Thanks lillyjo.
Enjoy those grandkids, they grow up way too fast!
This is what my kids grandparents say to me lol
They already have since we only see them about once or twice a year. This time it was a year and a half.
I have been to Positano although it was a day-trip. The place was beautiful and if I were to do it again, I will stay there overnight!
Cool!
Happy to hear that you and Mr. Kris made it out to NC no problem this time and are enjoying family time.
Thanks. I was happy we made it this time too. No issues😊
🎉
🎉
Happy Tuesday and birthday to Jacques Guerlain.
Sotd Encens Mythique, courtesy of Kris. Thank you Jacques that your gifts to the world live on!
Have you decided if you are going to purchase a full bottle? I had no idea I would like it as much as I do.
Yes but next year. My FB purchase list is full up, and there’s no way I’ve been good enough for Santa to make them all appear magically on Xmas morning. Next up is my beloved Laundry Day. I’m one spritz away from a thunk, and need to replace it before I do.
😊
Prime Day deal: after writing this, I realize I hadn’t check Amazon for any fragrance deals. I found my Laundry Day for under $90 instead of $180 because Amazon had the smaller 15ml bottle instead of only 30ml. 😍 I feel like I found a C-note on the ground.
Maybe it will come from the Mr. if you gently suggest …
😆 for Valentines Day my bf Mr Engineer gave me pepper spray to protect myself so I don’t think Guerlain Encens Mythique would be on his holiday shopping list for me.
LOL at pepper spray for a Valentine’s Day gift! That’s very much the engineering mindset.
Smelling quite lovely in Encens Mythique.
Thank you jalapeno! I’ve switched to Gourmand Coffee for my zoom book club (I didn’t read the book – too depressing – I, Robot by Asimov). Trying to stay awake to discuss books for next 4 mos.
I found the movie adaptation of I, Robot a much bigger downer than the book was. Couldn’t get thru his Foundation series; what a slog!
I love spicy perfumes, so I was quite surprised to see how few have nutmeg when I looked at Fragrantica. I’ll save those for later in the week, and I’m wearing OJ Ta’if today.
Ohhh, you smell quite delicious.
That’s a goody!
It’s a lovely sunny fall day, and I am wearing Box of Eels extrait. Thinking of Pixel.
{{pixel}}
Still cannot smell much or taste food, but feeling better.
I did however have enough smell to know that Dior Star Rose is a headache inducing screecher on me.
Today a few sprays of vintage Mitsouko ~ joining those marking Mr. Guerlains’ birthday.
That teapot is too cute.
Glad to hear you’re making progress on the healing front apsara!
Thank you 💐💐
So glad you are feeling better! How many days since you got sick?
(I am on day 20 and would say I’ve been stuck at 90% better for the past 5 days. All good, energy not yet 100%.)
16 days Robin.
It’s past 6pm here and I have actually not laid down during the day for the first time.
I think that’s pretty good!
Ew, “headache inducing screecher” sounds horrible! Wonder what stabby notes are in it?
nothing good, jalapeno!
Fall weather arrived during the middle of the night via a scary storm that featured a heavy downpour, lots of thunder and lightning so bright it lit up our entire bedroom and freaked out 😻😽😸, who immediately ran under the bed. We were tempted to join them but, fortunately, the storm was short-lived, no harm done, and everything got well-watered. But so much for a good night’s sleep!
Finally, weather only getting to the mid-60’s today. SOTD IS YSL Black Opium – which I think the friendly witch 🧙♀️ greeting visitors on my front porch might enjoy – layered over my new BBW Vanilla Cafe body products. Mmm good, cozy and warm ☕️..
Looking forward to this month’s Global Neighbors program at my library tonight – an opportunity to experience the culture, music and food of Korea.
Happy Tuesday 🌕🍂🍁!
Laila please give us a full report! I have neighbors from Seoul and would love to have more discuss with them than the weather.
Full report because you asked: It was quite a fantastic evening! We had food from a nearby Korean restaurant, including Korean ramyeon, bulgogi, chicken Karage, and Tteokbokki – soft chewy rice cakes in a spicy, sweet red sauce, and other delicious stuff that I don’t even know what they were. Four performers from the Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago (KPAC) treated us to music using traditional Korean instruments, both a 12-stringed and 25-stringed Gayageum, a zither-like instrument, and a Janggu, a double-headed hourglass-shaped drum. The finale featured one of the Janggu players with the drum strapped on his shoulder, dancing and whirling while he played the drum, moving his head so that the hat he was wearing that featured a long ribbon attached to a spinning device could ‘dance’ along with him. WOW!!! is all I can say.
Thak you Laila! Sounds like a fun and memorable night!
Thak you Laila! Sounds like a fun and memorable night!
Thak you Laila! Sounds like a fun and memorable night!
Wow, you had quite the gully washer last night!
Yes, we had about 2” of much-needed rain. But it all came down in one very short-lived giant whoosh!
SOTD = Imaginary Authors The Abandoned Mansion
Just got it today and I decided to wear it today. It smelled good upon first spraying but I must have it mingled with something else and will have to retry. It’s good but I cannot determine longevity yet. More to come!
In other news, the Wall Street Journal seems to have interesting articles, more so than The NY Times. That said, here’s an article on perhaps it may be better to collect Social Security when first eligible, weighing risk, cost and alternatives. It may not be free to read …

Do report back on the 2nd try!
Will do!
I’d like to know if the cedar note is prominent in The Abandoned Mansion.
I will report back because the first wearing was muddled by another perfume.
Thanks for the article.
You’re welcome.
Curious about your 2nd wearing too and thank you for the article…love reading the articles you share.
I was having a craptacular morning with a series of unfortunate events but the virtual clouds began to clear once I sprayed on some Angélique Noire! Behold the power of Guerlain! 🇫🇷
Go Guerlain!! (But sorry about your morning.)
Thanks, Robin! ❤️
Craptacular ? Ooh that’s a keeper! Sorry about the morning that warranted such an apt word! Behold the power of Guerlain indeed!
Yes, I can’t take credit for craptacular. I believe I first heard it in a very old Simpsons episode from Bart. 😉
Ah yes The Bard, oops I mean The Bart!
Sorry that your morning sucked so much!
Thanks, Jalapeno! ❤️
Fingers crossed for a great morning tomorrow 🤞
Thank you, lillyjo! ❤️
Aww.. sorry about your morning. Hoping you have a better day tomorrow.
Thanks, Gail! ❤️
Another chilly, grey day with temps in the 50’s here. But I can see the clouds breaking up and patches of blue sky appearing. It’s supposed to be in the upper 70’s here tomorrow. Teflon kitty will be happy about that. She’s missed her afternoon sunbeams. ☀️😻
Did a bit more driving today with the “rebuilt” shifter and new catalytic converter. The car definitely has more get up and go; I will have to pay more attention to how much gas I give ‘er.
I have one perfume sample which contains nutmeg that I know of. IIRC, that spice does NOT play nice with me. I’ll find out on Friday…
SOTD = TF Black Orchid. My bottle is now 14 years old and smells better than it ever has. Today I finally got floral notes in the opening for the first time.
It’s supposed to only be 60 here tomorrow. I might wear Black Orchid to see if I can get any floral notes. To be honest I am never sure what I am smelling when I wear it.
I’m still getting the other notes I usually get with Black Orchid, namely the bitter dark chocolate, the truffle, and a hint of patchouli.
That’s good news about your car! Nice that your brother can troubleshoot.
Thanks Gail. My brother worked on cars for 25 years before he went into his current profession. He has always worked on his own vehicles. Now that I live near him, he is willing to do the same for me.
Wow, you’re even colder than we are, but we’re supposed to get down into the 50’s tonight. Nice to see you’re enjoying your ‘new’ car, thanks to your bro. Lucky for you! 🤞
It got up to 59 here today. Tonight’s low will be a seasonal 40 degrees, aka flannel sheets season.
My brother joked on Friday that he’s AAA for me, and I am tech support for him.
I should pull mine out! I know you smell fantastic.
Thank you! I can wear Black Orchid only once in a while, but it sure hits the spot when I want it.
I wore Devotion today for taking my Daughter to a Doctor appointment. There was quite a bit of rain this morning, but it cleared up nicely.
Good luck with the doctor’s appointment!
Hope the appointment went well. And I hope you’re feeling a bit better yourself.
I hope the appointment went well!
