Thursday scent of the day 10/2

Posted by Robin on 2 October 2025 120 Comments

It’s Almost-Friday and the International Day of Non-Violence. Donatella will be dropping by shortly. RIP Jane Goodall. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm easing back into fragrance (after an illness) and countering the morning chill with a little dab of Maya Njie Vanilj.

Reminder: on 10/3, wear a fragrance that you feel is misunderstood or underappreciated, either by your fellow perfumistas or by others around you.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning my scented friends! Happy Thursday! Yes, RIP Jane Goodall. My SOTD is All Of Me by Narciso Rodriguez. A friend of mine and I were just discussing on Monday how underrated this perfumer is. His fragrances are lovely and long-lasting.
Wishing everyone a great day! 🙂

    Hello.
    Sotd is TF Cherry Smoke.
I had the honour of attending Jane Goodall’s lecture once many years ago. I do not know how my school managed to invite her but it was truly amazing. RIP Dame Jane Goodall.
“Researching” for this week’s CP has make me laugh out loud quite a few times because some of the descriptions and reviews of some scents were so intense!

This morning I’m in Vetiver Tonka, my first full application of it after trying a tiny spritz earlier when it was much warmer weather. I thought I’d probably like it better in the coolth, and I do! So no points for me from this one, but I will claim maybe half a point for last night’s Barenia Intense. At first there was something in it that reminded me of Bois d’Armenie, which was nice, but this morning the dregs of it had a sour-ish note that I did not care for at all. It may have been a reaction with my foot cream, though, so more research is required, and in the meantime it qualifies as misunderstood, at least by me.

I am indeed! But I do tend to overindulge in the newest scents in my collection, and since I’ve been on a travel-size Hermes binge lately, those are the new kids on the block. Well, those and Idyllwild, the most successful blind buy I’ve ever experienced.

Every time I’ve had a chance to post this week, it’s been too late. So I’m catching up with a few beloved (by me) but fall nicely into the love em’ or hate em’ category.

SL Tubéreuse Criminelle – it wore particularly beautifully yesterday as the strong menthol opening gave way to the lovely jasmine and tuberose underneath.

Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede – I’m curious about the extrait version because the original is a powerhouse of leather, oud and violet leaf.

ELdO Rien – As we know, this is definitely not “rien/nothing.” And though I love it and its sister CdG Daphne, I have to be in the right mood to wear them (and hopefully, those around me are in the right mood too!).

Rien is an Executive Lady scent, and I wear it whenever I am mentally marching into my corner office.

Parle Moi de Parfum Comete Paradis sample. This is one of those fragrances that I think I would really like if there were not that layer of ambroxan smothering the other notes for me. I don’t know if it’s a certain amount of ambroxan or all ambroxan that bothers me, but it sure ruins some fragrances for me. I must be very sensitive to it.

I just don’t understand why perfumers use so much ambroxan in everything now. In heavy doses I can not smell any other notes. They must know this right? I blame all the consumers that complain about longevity because I think that’s why they add it.

Very chilly and windy today in the low 60s, so I am wearing Hiram Green Arbole Arbole.

I bought during the weekend a bottle of Imaginary Authors O Unknown since it is still available, and also a bottle of Zara Romance D’iris for which I paid almost double its original price. Those are my early birthday and Christmas presents to myself. I will open and start enjoying them very soon.

Coffee and more coffee and a cider/pumpkin donut to keep myself awake. This coolish weather is making me feel very sleepy.
    Happy almost Friday! 🌻

I’m not wearing any perfume but my daughter wore BBW Frosted coconut snowball body mist for school today.

Hope you feel better, lillyjo! Maybe they need to prescribe a stronger antibiotic. I had a sinus infection many years ago that started to get better w/ regular amoxicillin (I think) and then all of sudden I was really sick again and they gave me a 7 day pill pack. I forget the name but I googled and it was a strong one w/ some noted side effects but it stomped out the infection quickly. Antibiotics are quite miraculous. Sending you hugs! ❤️

It really is a “mom” kind of thing.

Another beautiful warm 🌞 summer day here; I read on the Trib weather page this morning our temps have been higher than average on consecutive days since September 10! Unfortunately, we’ve had less than 1/2 inch of rain all September and none is predicted til next week.

Grocery shopping this morning and home the rest of the day, watching the Detroit/Cleveland ⚾️ game now. Not in the mood for a ‘perfumey’ scent today, and inspired by all the beautiful varieties of apples available now, I chose YR Pomme Delice as my SOTD, a simple fragrance of apples with some vanilla, only a touch sweet but not caramelly, just what I wanted.

Wishing all a wonderful evening ahead! 🍎🍏

I’m still crossing my fingers for the Tigers! September was a bit disappointing.

Well, they made it, so congrats! I was actually torn between the two teams. Detroit was the division leader for most of the season so I thought they deserved to win. Yet Cleveland did such a remarkable job making history late in the season to overtake Detroit I thought how incredibly disappointing for them to lose like this. When my White Sox won the WS in 2005 they, too, had been the division leader most of the season but slipped badly in September, so I fully understand holding your breath as a Detroit fan!

Very late to the party, I finally got to sniff the new Shalimar l’Essence! Neiman’s had a display bottle but no actual stock for sale, which is fine because I was too tempted to buy it. It is a VERY wearable and likable version of Shalimar. And yes, I do see the resemblance to MVP; a MVP with less growl and complexity. Will save my pennies for whatever next year’s release is and/or consider it if it ever hit the discounters.

I don’t have much clue for the CP this week. My SOTD is Clinique Aromatics in White. I guess it might work as a very misnamed and misunderstood flanker of AE. I think a lot of flankers would work for the CP since they are often hampered by people’s preconceptions.

Aromatics in White didn’t have much of anything in common with its parent. Agree with you completely that it is very misnamed!

Thanks for the flanker idea, I’ll use it for tomorrow. I’ve been stumped this week.

I’m waiting for L’Essence to hit the discounters. It’s been popular though so it might be awhile.

I’m slow getting around today and slow to visit this site. I feel a bit like I’m sleepwalking, though with no good excuse. Anyway, my SOTD is Arquiste Venice Rococo. This has been one of my most-worn fragrances ever since I bought it sometime last spring. Over the past few days, however, I’ve been wearing Hilde Soliani Orgasmo. That comforting almond vanilla blend that just becomes your contented skin scent is rather addictive.

Love today’s picture, Robin. I think USPS is selling a set of stamps now with very similar pics on them.

Another warm day with temps in the 80’s here. Not a single cloud in the sky that I can see. It’s laundry day, and I am finishing up a load of towels as I type.

A gentle suggestion for folks who had had trouble sleeping: Have y’all tried a magnesium supplement? I’ve recently added 250mg to my regimen. Very important to take it at night, about an hour or so before bedtime. It seems to be doing me some good, as I haven’t been waking up in the middle of the night.

SOTD = Jean Patou Collection Heritage L’Heure Attendue. It’s a well mannered floral amber on me, and on the quiet side. Has nothing at all to do with the CP.

I’ve been hearing about magnesium and sleep. Is it a similar to melatonin in effect?

Not from what I have observed. Magnesium take a few days to kick in. Melatonin takes an hour or two.

And melatonin should only be a short-term remedy. Like 2 weeks at most.

My cardiologist recommends it at night for sleep, blood pressure as well as digestion. I also take Clevr blends (only one e in Clevr) SLEEPTIME w valerian.

I have a couple things in mind for tomorrow. Today, I just wanted to try the L’Heure Attendue b/c it was still in the cellophane wrap.

I take a long time to unwrap perfume purchases sometimes.

Was just talking about magnesium w/ two co-workers today. I take in the evening too to help move things along in the digestive tract 😉 💩 (sorry for TMI) and it also helps w/ sleep and purportedly anxiety. I have taken it for years and love it. I see lots of articles recommending it for sleep too.

I know about that “second” use of magnesium! 🤣 When I first tried it, I was using too large a dose. Got cleaned out in a hurry.

A few days without perfume, but today I sprayed some Nicolaï Macaron Bourbon. I have a lot of Nicolaï loves, but the three gourmands are not at the top of the list. May end up in a swap pile at some point.
