Wednesday scent of the day 10/1

Posted by Robin on 1 October 2025 105 Comments

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to October. It's also Wednesday, the International Day of Older Persons and International Coffee Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: still recovering from illness, still commando.

Reminder: on 10/3, wear a fragrance that you feel is misunderstood or underappreciated, either by your fellow perfumistas or by others around you.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Diptyque Bois Corsé. It has lots of coffee, happy coincidence that it matches Coffee Day.
I forgot my rabbits. If anyone would be so kind as to send a few extras this way?
It’s annoying how the flu wouldn’t just quit. My throat is still raspy so I am sucking on lozenges like a baby with a pacifier. Thank goodness they make them sugar free these days or I’d need a dental check up!

Hello to my favorite month 🙂
I’m wearing good old Diptyque Tam Dao (edt). It’s perfect start for the colder month ahead and I’m thrilled to wear heavier scents again (tho I know Tam Dao isn’t that heavy, just lovely 🙂

Favorite month triplet. I just hopped up and copy-catted you because I keep forgetting I have Tam Dao. It is the newer version. I find it very light and airy and one I have to pay attention to. I’m not immediately getting PS’s. I will pay attention as the evening goes on.

A perfume friend passed along a bunch of samples, including Balmain. I’m wearing what must be a new iteration of Ivoire. It’s innocuous, but doesn’t smell even a little bit like the version of, say, a decade ago.

SOTM is Kerosene Broken Theories, which might qualify for points — as far as I can tell, it’s among the under appreciated. I adore it.

Meanwhile, I have just succumbed to another Imaginary Authors limited edition, The Haunted Mansion. It sounds like they’ve made this one in candle form before, but have now released it in a spray-with-free-soap edition. The notes are right up my alley: cedar, quince, petitgrain, oak moss … what’s not to lem? No affiliation, other than brand adoration.

    Hello fragrant friends,
    Remembered my rabbits.

My mother and dad and aunt and uncle married in a double wedding today in 1949. All gone now, so we remember them well.

I am feeling much better but low energy for sure.

Can taste my coffee this morning, I will take that as a win.

Just want to be well for meeting my sister in NY.

A few sprays of Tea for Two today. Maybe I will catch a whiff!

Earlier this year, my sister and I had their engagement picture placed on their vault at the cemetary.

My grandma and grandpa also married on October 1, in 1949. Grandma’s still alive, Grandpa died 13 years ago and I miss him desperately, but not as much as I will miss Grandma. 95 years old, and…ready to die, honestly, and I get it, though her health is still very very good at her age. Trying to book a trip home to see her over the holidays.

I’m wearing a perfume purchase from Vilnius, Lithuania–Jeroboam Gozo. Jeroboam’s not from Lithuania but the SA in the shop recommended it. It’s a spritely, cheerful fruity floral. I think I can wear it all year round as it’s an extrait concentration and I can vary the number of sprays with the temperature outside.
I slept poorly last night, I was cold, so this morning I am switching the summer comforter for the winter weight one.

R.I.P Jane Goodall. I can remember reading In the Shadow of Man when I was around 10 years old after an aunt gave it to me. I thought it was amazing at the time, especially as it was so far removed from my own life. We had snow yesterday and still a bit chilly so wearing Ambre des Merveilles which is such a lovely scent.

Wearing Angelique Noire from a recent manufacturer sample. I never owned this one and I’m not sure the last time I tried it but this sample seems like it has more vanilla to my nose (a good thing in my book 😆) and I’m really enjoying it. I wonder if the current version is more gourmand or if my memory is bad and/or if my tastes have changed and I’ve come around to angelica. 🤷‍♀️

A creepy start to the scary month of Halloween🙀!

No rabbits for me on this first day of October, but lots of crows! A large flock of crows, caw-cawing loudly as they circled above my back yard this morning for quite awhile. Occasionally I’ve seen a crow or two but never this many and never circling loudly above like this. I had just opened the window for 😻😽😸moments before the crows started and the cats freaked out. Was this The Birds Part 2 🐦‍⬛Weird!

Other than that, it’s been a nice day with temps a little cooler, and I’ve been enjoying the warm, peachy rose of Tresor. Haven’t worn this in awhile and the cooler temps today made it perfect.

    RIP Jane Goodall.

    Wishing everyone a non-creepy, non-scary night 🎃

I have 2 sets of 🐇 🐇🐇 to give away!

SOTD = DSH for American Perfumer Colorado

Love it and failed the CP although I got a partial bottle from someone here so maybe I passed it?

I haven’t used PayPal shipping in a while so things have changed quite a bit. That was not the problem though … my postal scale DIED! Indeedy. I was utterly shocked when I saw that the battery 🪫 had a 2015 (not a typo) expiration date. Oy vey! I got a two-pack replacement even though I just needed one. Anyway, all is good for now.

Tomorrow (Thursday), I go to the 2nd of my two financial seminars. My sister was supposed to go but she was contacted by the sponsor about her Series # license(s). It is just a requirement for her job and she doesn’t use it to provide financial advice. Nevertheless, it was probably good that she decided not to go in case that can run afoul of whatever rules there are concerning the licenses.

SOTD is Bottega Veneta, I dug it.

It took me almost 30 minutes to get home from work today, even though it’s three miles from my house. Some towns just aren’t built for rush hour traffic.

I am swapping out my cute little summer purse for my fall/winter one tomorrow, as much as it pains me to do so; leaves are falling, the beaches are deserted, I figure it’s time.

I remembered my rabbits at 1:55 a.m.; dang train woke me up again, so I went downstairs to watch Drew, then saw the time and rabbited.

R.I.P. Dame Jane Goodall. I have always admired her quiet-kind of perseverance.

    🐇🐇🐇!

    Song of the Day:
    https://youtu.be/KFPI9b9N6CQ?list=RDKFPI9b9N6CQ
    🎃🎃🎃

My turn for an unsettling spider story. Skip this if you are arachnophobic.

I’ve been seeing itty bitty spiders in my apartment every so often now that it’s Fall. Today, though, one of those little 8-legged pervs was in my shower on the shower curtain! And of course, I had just finished lathering up when I spotted it. Not going to jump out of the shower and make a mess. So I just filled my hands up with water and washed the interloper down the drain.

SOTD = commando, but wearing Korres’ Mint Tea/Mastic body butters on my shins and Vacation Classic Whip SPF 30 Sunscreen Mousse on my arms. The sunscreen is plenty scented and I can smell it for a few hours after applying. I see it’s also available in SPF 50. I should get some of that!

Similar story here the other day, although my pervy spider was not itty bitty. I used the handheld shower head to chase him off to a watery grave. Could swear he gave me side-eye as he went down the drain.

I wish I had a handheld shower head! Can’t change out any of the hardware in the apartment, alas.

Nobody ever talks about “spider season”.

A couple weeks ago there was a black widow building up a web on a boot-scraper hedgehog thingy we leave by the front door. My hubby got a picture of it showing the red hourglass shape; I would have freaked out if I saw it in person. I hope it’s moved on but don’t want to get that close to check. Thankfully it wasn’t inside!

      There’s definitely a spider season!

I know that black widow spiders live here. My brother has had a few encounters with them while at work. Thankfully, he has never been bitten.

I’ll be the weird one here and say I try to not even step on an ant, so I probably would’ve tried my best to get it off the shower curtain and just let it go elsewhere.

I used to toss spiders outside in NJ. Can’t do that with the jumping spiders here. They’re too fast and skittish for me.

The song goes perfectly with your horrible spider story! Eek eek EEK!

Thing is, this is not the first time I have been surprised in the shower by a spider here. It’s happened at least 2 other times.

        Perverts.

Wearing a small sample of MFK Kurky today which I thought was perfect for spending the day with grandkids.

Is this fragrance misunderstood? I’ve read quite a few reviews of this. In some ways, I think both positive and negative reviewers are correct. It is expensive for what it is. It is somewhat childlike. It is not long lasting on many people. However, I am enjoying it and that’s what counts.

I have not smelled it! Nor seen it mentioned here much.

I feel exactly the same about Kurky myself and the reviews. I really liked wearing it but probably won’t seek out more.

I just can’t seem to get better with this sickness. I went back to the med station. Had a covid and flu test. Trying a different antibiotic.
Early this morning I spritzed Laura Mercier almond coconut, which was a mistake. It just made me nauseous.
I remembered my rabbits in my head but forgot to say them out loud.

Remembering the rabbits mentally counts in my book! Sorry to hear that you are still sick. 😿
