Tauer Perfumes L’Air du Desert Marocain Noir ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 12 September 2025 10 Comments

Tauer Perfumes has launched L'Air du Désert Marocain Noir, a new flanker to 2005's L'Air du Désert Marocain.

A Walk Into the Desert Night.

Air du Désert Marocain Noir is not a reinterpretation of the original, but a continuation, a deeper and darker step into the same story. I wanted to create a perfume that captures the experience of walking into the desert at night. When the sun is gone, but the stones and boulders still radiate the heat of the day. The horizon is black and empty and there are no mountains, no trees, just a line where sand kisses sky. It is a sinister, peaceful environment, dark and deep.

I imagined this elixir as the scent of a walk into this desert at night. I imagined the warmth of the night. Besides many smaller changes, at the heart of Air du Désert Marocain Noir I have intensified the cistus and the resinous warmth. The amber is drier, more expansive, vast like the night. The perfume is richer, deeper, with strength and with 30% concentration this elixir feels unending.

And then, there are the stars. I imagined their cold, distant, blinking shine. I added more sparkling citrus notes to the perfume formula of Air du Désert Marocain Noir, from bergamot to lemon to petitgrain, to evoke their shimmer, a sharp brilliance that contrasts the depth of the fragrance and adds a fresh airiness.

Additional notes include spices, leather, jasmine, oakmoss, cedar, vetiver and patchouli.

Tauer Perfumes L’Air du Désert Marocain Noir is $340 for 50 ml.

I am going to be eager to try this out. Last night, I was thinking of getting PHI Rose de Kandahar but my jaw dropped at the price. Used to be a little over $200 but now it is $300. Pricing for everything has gotten stupid expensive.

Hasn’t it just! Am a little sad that AT picked such a flanker-ish name

Ministry of Scent (formerly Tigerlily Perfumery) sent out an email a month or so ago warning of the Tauer price increases and stated it was due to tariffs.

I don’t get emails from them but it does make a little more sense.

It is sadly spendy, like most everything.

Not happening for me, much as I wanted at least a sample. His shipping these days is very restrictive (Switzerland, EU, and US) and crossing the border by land isn’t in the cards right now. Oh well, at least I guess the Brits can cry in their tea with me. (Though I see Les Senteurs has the FBs, if not samples.)

Guess if I was going to get a bottle from Tauer, I should have done it sooner. Alas!

As a Tauer fan and living in Switzerland, I immediately ordered this. I just hope he was careful this time with the Ambermax!
