The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 3 September 2025 9 Comments

Freddy Mercury reportedly put Roger & Gallet soaps in his dresser drawers, and someone or another on instagram says he loved the carnation. No idea if it is true but here we go: Roger & Gallet Carnation soap, $7.95 at Smallflower.

The carnation soaps are lovely! I have not had any in ages. At the moment I have the Jean Marie Farina soaps, they’re perfect for scenting the drawers I think.

It’s the JM Farina soaps for the win for this household, too , Robin! It’s a beautiful long lasting clean scent. I love roger et Gallet.

I’ve had an open box (3 cakes) of Roger & Gallet Carnation soaps in my socks-and-underwear drawer for years. I never use it as soap, but it does a dandy job of keeping everything smelling good. I didn’t even know it was still being made: the Canadian website doesn’t list it.

I just checked…still listed on the French site.

Just came here to see if NST has a review of Roger & Gallet Fleur D’Osmanthus “fragrant water spray,” because I just got one in the mail today. I love a good carnation note too, and those pretty soaps are mighty appealing.

I don’t think we ever reviewed it…how do you like it?

I love it, but I’m a huge osmanthus fan. It’s mild, as “water spray” indicates, but an unmistakable, uncluttered osmanthus note shines brightly, even right from the top – – a juicy, ripe apricot-leatherish note alongside some nice mandarin & neroli touches. Might be too linear for some, as the sandalwood and benzoin in the drydown are mere whispers next to the long-hauling osmanthus, but I’m enjoying it a lot as a perfect summer fragrance. It’s not Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan, but for 100 ml at a mere $35, I’ll overspray and consider myself satisfied. 😉👍🏻

Top notes: orange bark, mandarin, grapefruit

        Heart: osmanthus, neroli

        Base: tonka, benzoin, sandalwood

          Thank you!!

I will try it if I ever see it, but R&G is hard to come by here unless you buy online.

(I do keep my 15 ml Osmanthe Yunnan restocked the same way, admittedly)
