Tuesday scent of the day 9/2

Posted by Robin on 2 September 2025 94 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Blueberry Popsicle Day. Birthdays: Keanu Reeves, Horace Silver, Salma Hayek, Billy Preston. What fragrance are you wearing?

Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar, and Zanzibar was historically considered one of the spice islands, so I'm in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur. Tea at the moment is Numi Golden Chai.

Reminder: 9/5 is Freddie Mercury’s birthday. Scent a Queen song, or honor Freddie Mercury with your fragrance in any other way you see fit.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Zanzibar teapot by Teas & C ("Enjoy a taste of the exotic with Enjoy a taste of the exotic with Teas & C’s Zanzibar. Inspired by the bold colours and designs of Eastern cultures, this porcelain teaware has a vibrant, eclectic feel. This range is all about the ritual of enjoying your favourite brew – and maybe something sweet to go with it. Zanzibar features a selection of contemporary shapes, including a lidded mug, a sugar bowl, footed cake stands, jugs, charming porcelain spoons and a cake server, all finished with a touch of real silver") is $34.98 at Myer in Australia.

    Robin-nice tea choice!
I am up early with jet lag-4am-on my 3rd cup of coffee and also had a cup to Earl Grey at 4am.

Coming back from vacation, I was so sad to find out that the riding stable I’ve been with had to close early—my heart just sank. Riding there had become such a bright spot for me. While I was away though, I was lucky enough to go on a hack with a magnificent Friesian-Hanoverian, 18 hands tall—it was love at first trot.

That’s a very tall horse! My sister’s now-retired dressage mare was terrified of Friesians for some mysterious reason and couldn’t be relied on not to try to bolt whenever she saw one. Must have been all the hair? It’s wonderful that you had a fun ride!

    Hello.
My friend bought my sotd for me when she went travelling last week. She got it from the airport duty free for an amazing 30% off! It’s TF’s new Oud Voyager. I have a mini review:

Opens with sparkly pink pepper, and combined with the citrus, it is the beginning of a fizzy cocktail. There is a faint sweetness to it as well but just a gentle touch. The flavour of this drink is decidedly floral, with equal parts peony and geranium, and heavily infused with saffron. The bartender creates this cocktail with an oud muddler, softly infusing the liquid with an earthy, woody touch without leaving any animalic, dirty or even fecal notes. Served in an opaque glass, the finishing touch is a small tuft of vetiver, a sprig of patchouli and crushed cardamom sprinkled on top. A haze of soft musk lingers around the rim to round out the edges as you sip.

SOTD is Bvlgari Omnia, the original one. This time of year, neither really summer nor fully autumn, is when I seem to spend the most time dithering over what fragrance to wear. One is too heavy with amber, another too tartly summery, and finally I end up happily with something polite like Omnia or Bvlgari’s Pour Femme, or a classic like Mitsouko or Caleche, or maybe OJ Woman. It’s a fun “problem” to have, this shoulder season!

Claiming CP points in Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose. For Killer Queen!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZBtPf7FOoM

I love Freddie’s whole style in this video – hair, clothes, nail polish, bracelets, rings, mannerisms… I think he looks so beautiful. Lipstick Rose would suit both the “Killer Queen” in the song and Freddie himself in this video, in my opinion. Bonus points for Frederic/Freddie match! 🤣😂

After luxuriating in my 5 Desert Island Malle’s, this week I’m revisiting the FM perfumes that could easily have made the list. Today I’m in “Dries Van Noten,” which I just adore.

I’d wear it more often, but my girlfriend can’t be around it; she actually loves the scent, and even tried wearing it herself, but it causes a bad bronchial reaction. I’m out of the house today, so I can get away with it. Of course, I’ll have to hit the showers upon returning home.

DVN was discontinued; I’m guessing because of Van Noten’s own line of perfumes. I sure hope the folks at Estée Lauder bring it back under another name. It’s a gem.

Back from my annual camping trip, tired but happy, and with a mound of laundry to do. But our clothes are actually not smokey this year because we weren’t allow to have a campfire due to the wild fire danger. I actually remembered to say my rabbits when I woke up in my tent yesterday!

Today I’m sampling Chypre Moji (Parle Moi de Parfum). It’s called chypre, but this smells like a fruitchouli to me. It’s unisex and feels like it’d be ok for warmer temperatures (which is usual for fruitchoulis), but it’s not for me. So I’ll probably scrub it soon and wear something from my desert island picks. I wore absolutely no fragrance while camping, there were so many yellow jackets around that I was terrified of attracting them even more. Now that I’m home I’m researching and finding that mint, clove, eucalyptus, and lemongrass oil can keep them away. I know for next time!

    SOTD = Guerlain Rose Cherie

Lovely. I should wear this more often!

I had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend, although everyday feels like a weekend 🤣. On Saturday, I met up with family and friends at a buffet bar – great as usual. I just realized that my friend’s daughter who is in Year 2 of law school COULD NOT STOP TALKING! My nephew said why did I not realize it before? I said I don’t think I’ve ever sat next to her in all the times that we ate and OMG! On Monday, there was a last minute get together barbecue with a couple and we had a great time! I happened to have the As Ever rose and I brought it. For the price – $30 plus $9.10 (tax & shipping) – it is “ok”. It tasted more like alcoholic sweetish juice. I’m glad I bought it as I was very curious although in hindsight, I would have skipped it…

Oh, and I did my 🐇🐇🐇 yesterday and can give away 3 sets if your still looking for them!

When I think of Freddie Mercury and Queen, I immediately think of Bohemian Rhapsody, quickly followed by the soundtrack to the 1980 Flash Gordon movie. It’s a very cheesy movie, but I’ve always loved it – it’s a perfect upgrade of the 1930s TV serial.
Altogether, that says opulent and over the top, but also awesome.

Yet another beautiful day here; I can’t remember the last time we enjoyed so many in a row. 🙏

And it’s a beautiful day for my SOTD, BBW’s Forever Sunshine edt, a floral/fruity/gourmand scent that has it all. I’d call it a ‘happy’ scent, one that brings back fond memories of a very special 😻I had who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge way too soon. She was a silver (not a gray) tabby and the only cat we actually bought at a pet store in town – this was long before shelters and the Internet and we searched and searched everywhere for a kitten til we found her. Eventually, we had 4 cats (because they kept appearing homeless in our backyard) + 1 dog, and she never let the others forget (even the dog was adopted) that she was ‘special’ because she was ‘store bought.’ She was a beauty and when she walked across the room she would pause halfway and preen for awhile so you could admire her. But she was the sweetest one and I was so lucky to have her ❤️.

    Happy Tuesday! 🌈
