It's Tuesday, National Dog Day and Women’s Equality Day. Birthdays: Guillaume Apollinaire, Jimmy Rushing, Christopher Isherwood, Mother Teresa, Julio Cortázar. What fragrance are you wearing?
I have not yet come up with my 5 desert island perfumes, but Diorissimo will have to be on the list so that's what I'm wearing today.
Reminder: 8/29 will be Desert Island Friday...come up with a list of 5 fragrances you could live with for some unspecified amount of time while marooned on a desert island. Share your list on Friday and wear one of the fragrances. (Suggested by springpansy)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Amami Porcelain Tea Set With Tropical Fish by Vito Nests ("This tea set composed of a tea mug, a milk jug and a sugar bowl, will make an exceptionally lively and refined addition to any contemporary or traditional decor. Handcrafted of fine porcelain, it is part of a series named after the Amami archipelago in Japan, belonging to Vito Nesta's signature Grand Tour Collection") is $435 at Artemest.
Hello.
Sotd is Guerlain Florabloom Absolu. Yes…I caved and bought a bottle. FbA smells much more coconutty and creamy compared to Fb Forte, giving it a much more tropical feel at the beginning. The florals of both are similar in strength but Absolu is just a touch deeper.
National Dog Day? Gotta spoil my baby girl with tons of extra treats then! (Well, mostly just more veggies because she’s on a diet. Thank goodness she is not a picky eater!)
Enjoy spoiling your baby in National Dog Day, h888c ! I don’t know your scent but I bet you smell marvelous!
Happy National Dog Day to your furbaby!
Guerlain is bringing out a lot of tempting goodies for Fall, aren’t they?
We had rain last night-first time in about eight weeks! My cat went out and got soaked-she’s very furry, and it’s so surprising to see how little she actually is.
I’m in a dab of Portrait of a Lady, from a 2 ml sample. I wonder if I’m losing my sense of smell-I thought it was a powerhouse, but this is more subtle. I like it a lot. Still believe Dans Tes Bras is one of their best scents-that’s in my top 5, for sure.
Carole, you smell fabulous. (And you know I share your love of Dans Tes Bras.😊)
I love that you share my love of DTB, Daniel-and thank you for the compliment 🙂
Carole, I’ll be curious if you find that POAL changed and deepens as your day goes on. I received some from a generous NSTer and fell in love with it more and more as it settled on my skin. I did find that with out So Cal heat that I thought I would wear it again when it cools down. I can conclusively say you smell fantastic !
LesLiesse, you’re right-it did deepen as the day went on. I can’t use too much cause I am at work, and I don’t want to over spray. I’m into cedar and frankincense now. Going for a bike ride in the heat-wonder how it will perform.
You smell great to me!
Thanks Kris!
POAL is lovely stuff at any stage in its evolution.
No top 5 for me today: I put on Hermès Vanille Galante because I wore Vetiver Tonka yesterday and was still in a Hermessence mood, and was reminded yet again how strange it is — mostly lily, with a decided banana overtone (possibly from ylang), not nearly as much vanilla as you’d expect. I don’t not like it, but it’s a real oddity.
pyramus I remember when I first smelled this, and your description is spot on. I love your SOTD.
Good morning, everyone. National Dog Day? I’m always up for celebrating my pup. She’s under the weather today, the dear girl, which has me a bit unsettled.
I’m in Guerlain Homme EdP. Its citrus and mint are so good in hot weather.
I’ve never smelled Guerlain Homme, but citrus and mint sound beautiful together. Have a great day and hope the pup is up to snuff in no time 🙂
Daniel, hope your dear girl is feeling better asap. Cuddling with you in your Guerlain will surely help her recover. I’m unfamiliar this scent, but citrus and line sound ideal for our late August weather. Stay cool.
Sending get better wishes to your pup. Yes, it’s always worrying when we know something’s not right with our pets, hope she’s her old self tomorrow.
Hope that it’s nothing serious with your doggo.
Thanks, everyone. The pup is much better – back to her usual rambunctious self.😊🐶
Love that tea/coffee pot set with the fishies!
I am commando at the moment. We had to go give the old pony a big dose of Bute this morning, so the farrier can pick her feet up for trimming without her being too uncomfortable this evening. She will get another dose about an hour before the farrier comes. Poor little Sheba, I know exactly how she feels when I have to put all my weight on the leg with the bad hip. Happy to live in an era of effective pain medications for old horses and mature humans.
After a shower, I plan on wearing a little Malmaison, from a forgotten almost full decant I unearthed when dragging all my various samples out of the drawers they were hiding in! As Robin suggested, I need to wear it and use it up before it evaporates!
Regarding the cleaning out of drawers, I had decided to send off clothes that had been hiding in those drawers off to the Good Will equivalent, and put all the perfumes, the yarn stash and my sewing notions and supplies, into those drawers!
Going through that stuff, cataloging what I have and sending on stuff I did not need or use, has improved my sense of calm to a rather amazing extent. I got rid of “clothes I haven’t worn i 15 years and realistically never will again”, and ordered a couple pair of pants that I will wear, and a couple tee shirts to replace ones that are irretrievably stained and stretched out to the point that they were not even “farm clothes” worthy. 🙂 And I unearthed my various knitting and crocheting WIPs. I do not need to buy more yarn in my lifetime, and will never lack for handwork to do, now that I have remembered these projects.
Later today, I am going to see a regenerative medicine physician, recommended by a friend with severe immune disorders, who was helped by this doctor for a painful joint issue. We will see. One of these days I suppose I will bite the bullet and get a hip replacement, but I just want to try all other options first!
Meanwhile back at the ranch, cleanup and evaluation continues. It looks like there might be some money for rebuilding fences available. The fire is now about 50% contained, but has burned close to 130,000 acres, most of it large, fenced grazing pastures. The cost of refencing these grazing allotments is mindboggling, for these traditional family ranches that operate on razor thin margins as it is. Rebuilding will take time and resources the people here just don’t have. The entire area has been declared an emergency site. Ugh. Sorry to vent here.
I’m sorry for the loss of the fence and the destruction of the fire. We had horses when I was small, and I remember using a pick to clean their hooves. Big Clydesdales-they were so gentle. And my pony-who was not 🙂 I also remember my dad doing the shoes himself, cause we were poor. He cut too close to the quick once and he was devistated. Hope your ferrier does a good job on your horse. And good for you with your organizing!
Thanks for all the kind thoughts! I used to do the horses pedicures myself, but my back just can’t take it. My current farrier is very good, and the horses like her. I grew up with ranch horses that ranged from wiry little mustangs to muscle-bound Quarter horses, to some Standardbred/draft crosses my mother’s father used at the sawmill, who were very old but huge compared to the cowhorses when I was a little kid. Horses are good for everything but your bank account!
That is awful about the fire. I need to follow your example on the clothes. I get way too sentimental about some things.
I lost an appreciable amount of weight, and most of what I was sentimental about just didn’t fit me anymore. So now I have fewer things, and I feel almost no attachment to any of them. It’s a change for me!
Ohhh mf, that sounds so tough! I’m sorry for all the losses!
Some of the neighbors are in much worse shape than our outfit. It is a mess.
Sending good thoughts and hugs to you and little Sheba 🤗🤗
Little Sheba is an 800 pounds 36 year old Haflinger mare. She is the sweetest horse I have ever known, very willing and only very occasionally expressing an alternate opinion in the mildest possible way. I have learned that her alternate opinions are generally a good idea. She got her pedicure happily with no evidence of discomfort picking up her feet and standing around on three legs. Horsey aspirin is an excellent thing!
Oh, good, glad all is well! She sounds like a sweetie.
I am wearing Black Orchid, from a manufacturers sample. I’ve had this for years, rarely worn it, but it really is quite good.
I love Black Orchid but I have to be in the mood for it.
Same!
You smell great! I have a love/hate relationship with Black Orchid. Some days I love it and some days I don’t.
Same here.
Back to the grind today and go to work this afternoon. Will be wearing Cheirosa 62 today.
Slow start to my morning here, just can’t seem to get moving today.
Sotd, after a shower, will be Nicolai New York in honor of the cool weather we are enjoying.
You probably still need to rest from being sick.
Hermessencing along with pyramus this morning, once again in Agar Ébène. The summer cold that Mr. G brought home is wreaking havoc in me — I coughed my way through last night and now have my Barbara-Hale-deep-voice that often presages laryngitis. Hopefully not this time though — have to be better by Thursday for a haircut!
Gosh still under the weather? I hope you don’t get laryngitis.
I hope you are feeling better soon SheriG!
Oh no!
Such a charming tea set, Robin!
AC is back working, not as costly as I thought. So grateful.
New one onto the desert island today, so need to vote one off by Friday. It will NOT be Indochine.
Guaic 10 has become a love. A friend muled me a bottle from Tokyo several months ago and while I didn’t enjoy it at first, it has pushed several to the side.
Off to Pasadena to pick up new eyeglasses and doctor appointment, so just a few sprays for today.
Am late to The Gilded Age party..what fun I am having watching this.
I am thinking of Indochine for the desert island too, which means I will have to take something out as well.
such…hard…decisions…
Glad to hear that your A/C is back!
I’m going to start my top 5 week with SL Tubéreuse Criminelle.
I went a little crazy after first trying this and fearing it would be discontinued. All to say, I have a BUB of a BUB and it might show up in the swapmeet because as is often said on NST, I have enough to last several lifetimes🥰
I was hoping I would like that, but the camphor smell puts me over the edge.
I love the camphor and wish it lasted longer! I get a lot of hyacinth from this one, and I’m not sure how tuberose-ie it is on my skin. Mine is the gratte ciel style bottle.
I love Hyacinth so maybe that’s another reason (in addition to the camphor) that I love it so much💗
I found a sample of this in my untested pile, I think. I will have to try it out!
Let us know what you think😊
That camphor note should slice thru any hot summer weather!
Happy Tuesday!
Re: National Dog Day -rub those pups tummies for me!
National Women’s Day -105 yrs since women got the vote ! An intriguing side-note- while today is the anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th amendment in 1920, it was actually passed in Congress on June 4, 1919, which is the date of birth of Dorothy Howell, mother of the first female candidate of a major political party to run for president in the U.S.
Sotd- I couldn’t wait to try my new sample from the Harmonist Florae Nebulae. I really like it a lot. Will see how the day goes as it dries down.
My dog thanks you for the extra rub!😀
Everyone should g et a belly rub today!
Thank you for mentioning National Women’s Day. In conjunction with that, I strongly encourage all women to visit the Women’s Rights National Historic Park in Seneca Falls, NY to learn how it all began, one of the most meaningful places I have ever visited.
https://www.nps.gov/wori/index.htm
Wow,
Now this is on my bucket list! It took 72 yrs of protest for women to get the vote. We should honor those generations of women who never lived to see their success by always exercising our hard-won right to vote!
Very cool reminder about National Women’s Day!
Thank you jalapeño! We’re lucky so many generations fought in our behalf for the 72 yrs it took!
“Oh we were suffering until sufferage (Oh)
Not a woman here could vote, no matter what age (Oh no)
Then the Nineteenth Amendment struck down that restrictive rule (Oh yeah!)”
Sing it Sister! Sing it!
SOTD is Dusita Splendiris. It is a very pretty scent, but it will not be on the desert island with me.
I have a sample of Splendiris that I must try again. I have no recollection of wearing it. Maybe that’s not a good sign. 🤭
Picking 5 desert island scents is harder than I thought it would be.
It really is. I know that Jalapeno will think I would pick Shalimar MI for the list, but it is not going to be the case.
Neither Shalimar MI nor Splendiris?!? 😮
Nope. Love them both but I like five others more.
I’m interested in not just the what’s but also the why’s.
Just happen to like five other ones more than these.
Thanks Kris for clarification of five favorites rather than five we couldn’t live without while alone on a desert island!
I’m in Bronze Goddess. For me its an easy wear that’s great in the heat.
You said it, Gail, you smell wonderful.
Thank you! It never seems to fail me.
I’m wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie parfum today. Just because!
Anyone who comes in contact with you will be under your spell. I love your SOTD.
Happy National Dog Day from a cat lover! 🐈⬛🐕🫱🏻🫲🏼💐
I’m wearing Safran Troublant today – finally got some rest and sleep, and it really fits the relaxing vibe.
Looks like we’re in for some wildly different temperatures this week: 17 °C (63 °F) today and around 30 °C (86 °F) on Friday and Saturday. 😲
Thinking of dogs made me think of Deva and T-Rex. I hope her treatment is working.
I hope so too.
Me three.👍
Wow, you are really on the weather rollercoaster!
Two white peaches. This morning Jo Malone Nectarine blossom honey, pretty but not desert island worthy, and tonight LL Elle l’Aime à la folie because I haven’t worn it yet this summer and I really like it, it has a delicious myrrh note.
I’ll have to think hard about five desert island perfumes – five is a very small number!
Meanwhile, I’m wearing Diva today, a fairly recent purchase that had I had somehow not run across earlier.
Many apologies – I’ve put this in the wrong place!
No problem Gaynor, I’ve done that once or twice too.
That is a great scent but will not be one of mine on the desert island.
It’s so difficult bringing it down to five.
We were white peach twins today!
Hi twin, white peaches are so delicious.
Oh yay — I see we are doing the desert island five! I’ve just finished making the (traditional) peach coconut cake for youngest SP son’s birthday. It sounds unusual, but it’s really delicious. We’ll be heading over to celebrate with him and his lovely wife and two little ones soon. I always ask before making in case she has something planned but she always says please make the cake.
For today, I’m listing my desert island five for this summer — on Friday I’ll do my all time desert island five. And I can already see how hard this will be…
For the desert island this summer:
1) Vacation Grand Cuvée, 2) Chanel No. 5 L’eau, 3) Goutal Le Chevrefeuille, 4) Burberry Goddess and 5) a bit of Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche here and there.
I’ve also been wearing lots of Nishane Wulóng Chá and Moschino I Love Love.
Chevrefeuille is so .beautiful 😍
I am wearing your number 2! Have fun at the celebration!
Ulta will have the Vacation perfumes 50% off on Friday September 12th for the 21 Days of Beauty Sale. It looks like Grand Cuvee is included.
Thanks lillyjo!
Thank you so much!
Peach coconut cake sounds divine! Enjoy your celebration!💐
That cake sounds absolutely delicious! Happy birthday to youngest son 🎂🥳
Enjoy the family B-day get together!
Thanks, all!
sotd = Infusion d’Iris edt
I think I could wear this one for days on end, so it might be a desert island favorite.
And it makes me feel relaxed and calm, like everything will be alright, which makes it a good fit for being stuck somewhere. 😊🏝️
I could too as well except now I have to find it!
I loved that while I had it, but I think am out! I should look around for some.
You smell fantastic, tiffanie! It’s a magical scent.
Is the current Infusion d’Iris still an EdT? Or did Prada change it to an EdP?
I don’t know 🤔 my bottle of Infusion d’Iris is marked EdT, it’s at least 10 years old. 😃
SOTD = Chanel No.5 L’Eau
Love…so many BUBs to BUBs etc. Today’s was from the Red ❤️ bottle. I will buy whatever next colored one Chanel decides to offer.
In other news, this is not in the U.S. but could be relevant nonetheless. Perhaps a cure for the “under housed”?

The Red bottle 😍
I was so sorely tempted to blind buy that red bottle!
I have decided to wear some of my more neglected rose fragrances. I always used to think they were my favourites but I don’t seem to reach for them very often these days.
To rem
remedy that, I wore Un Zest de Rose yesterday and I am wearing Ecume de Rose today. Both are lovely light interpretations of the flower and I think I like Ecume a little better.
I used to have a bottle of Un Zest, it is pretty.
Accidentally wearing Invictus Victory, as I was making some diy Lampe Berger oil, rather clumsily,
Whoops!
Very long and exhausting day. I will be working until very late tonight. At least, it is my wfh today.
Wearing Serge Lutens L’Eau Froide. Beautiful and relaxing! A big favorite!
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
Hang in there pl67!
Thank you, Lillyjo! 🌻
I hope you’ve finished your work day by now. How’s the kitty cat doing?
I am finally done, thanks God! Kitty cat is doing well. He had the last round of vaccines yesterday. He is growing fast, gaining weight, and very playful. I am so happy for him! 😸
Hope that your workday is done now, and you are relaxing with your new kitten.
Just finished and ready to collapse in bed. Kito kitten is just running like crazy in the living room! 😸
Another beautiful day here with early fall weather. Swimming time may over but the good news is it’s hot tub time again, a great way to start the day and I did today, first time in awhile. Since it’s outside and faces our small corner waterfall, I am soothed and re-energized in body, mind and soul! ☮️
SOTD is Coty’s L’Aimant, which is often compared to Chanel No. 5. I’m not a fan of the Chanel but I do like L’Aimant and have worn it for many years. It’s hard to believe it was created nearly 100 years ago, and until I looked it up today I didn’t realize it contained a ylang-ylang scent note that I could’ve worn for our last week’s cp.
Happy National Dog Day to all of you lucky enough to be a canine parent 🐶! I would love to join you and have always tried to have 2 🐈 🐈⬛ + 1 🐕. I was planning on adding a dog when my 2 Sisters 😻😽were a year old but then I found Little Orphan Adorable 😺and that plan is still on hold.🤞
I love your emojis!
Three cats does increase the complexity by at least a magnitude of order!
I’m wearing Bois de Paradis. Earlier I was trying to come up with my Desert Island Five list and thought that either this or Amoureuse would have to be on it, so I’m revisiting them to help me decide. It’s an interesting challenge. On the one hand I say to myself that I would HAVE to have certain favorite notes represented; on the other hand, though, I”d like to choose more via the perfume itself–some perfumes simply are what they are as complex wholes, rather than as exemplars of favorite notes. My final tally may be a combination of the two approaches. Check this space on Friday, ha ha!
I’m intrigued by your process and can’t wait to hear the outcome! Bois de Paradis and Amoureuse are both so beautiful.
I’m also intrigued by your process. I just picked the ones I liked best without any process or analysis, only problem is I have 9 instead of 5.
Wow, you are giving this CP a lot of thought!
Song of the Day:
https://youtu.be/KMSnhCuQVjU?list=RDKMSnhCuQVjU
Took a long trip in the Wayback Machine today!
Still cool and unsettled here. It might not clear up until the weekend. Oddly enough for me, I am not hating this weather.
SOTD = commando. But wearing Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange body butter on my shins.
Thanks for the earworm, I haven’t heard or thought of that song in ages.
It’s kind of cool and unsettled here too. Sunny, cloudy, lake-effect rain. Cool enough for socks.
You’re welcome!
It’s been cool enough for wool socks here. Granted, they are lightweight ankle socks, but wool nonetheless. Also works really well with the muggies.
Way way back machine! It took me a minute to remember.
The song, or the Wayback Machine reference? 😉
I originally was going to post a link to “Atomic Dog” for National Dog Day. But I have done that one before.
❤️ your song of the day, makes me remember Gordon, our favorite camping buddy 🐾
I also ❤️ the Tuscan Blood Orange, have the body butter and the perfume. Will be wearing it soon. You smell good!
Thanks Laila! The Pacifica is perfect for this Fall-ish weather.
💚
We’ve had a hot start to the week so I’m basically wearing desert island perfumes because they work well in the heat of a desert island! Today is Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche and yesterday was Terracotta.
Smelling great both days!
Thanks, I agree!
Twins with you today! I hope you’re staying cool in the heat. Luckily we were invited for a pool day with family.
Ooh hi twin! I had some hot moments but today was a slight improvement. Lucky you with the pool day. 🏖️
I spent most of today cleaning. The house really needed it.
A few weeks ago my brother bought me some frozen chicken legs because his wife was cleaning out her freezer. I defrosted them today and the smell was awful! I threw them away.
It was beautiful here today. I’ve been wearing Zara Fleur de Patchouli.
I’m always feeling peaceful after a good cleaning. Nothing like stirring the chi for the better mood, vibe, environment- you name it!
Ewwwwwwwwwww. The stench of rotten chicken is really disgusting. And unfortunately I know what it smells like.
Wearing JHAG Musc Invisible which is on my top 5 list. I wear this less in the summer but overall a lot all year.
I don’t always have time to post during the week but will try to get here on Friday to list my top 5.
It would be interesting to see what fragrances are the most frequent on our lists. I am going to guess some version of Chanel No. 5 which will be on my list as Eau Premiere.
I can hardly wait to see what people choose.
