It's Friday and National Eat A Peach Day! Plus, the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. Musical birthdays: John Lee Hooker, Claude Debussy, Tori Amos. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with ylang ylang, if you have one. Thanks to Kanuka for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in my DIY sweet orange + ylang ylang lotion again, this time layered with Neela Vermeire Créations Pichola.
Reminder: 8/29 will be Desert Island Friday...come up with a list of 5 fragrances you could live with for some unspecified amount of time while marooned on a desert island. Share your list on Friday and wear one of the fragrances. (Suggested by springpansy)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello and tgif!
Sotd is The Body Shop Full Ylang Ylang. It is a realistic tropical ylang scent and also budget friendly! I got this for 40% off so by perfume math it’s pretty much free.
The paella yesterday was a success! Polished it off and no leftovers. I’ve tried many rice types but nothing compares with the real Bomba rice. Now I am itching to make Arroz Negro.
Lucky you —I love paella!
It’s sooo good no wonder it’s a national dish!
Great news on both fronts. Paella can be intimidating – so many ingredients and the special pan. Can’t say I’ve ever made it though I should try!
And your Lush sounds lovely. and you smell great! I will have to try that one!
It’s a great weekend dinner project!
Oh it’s The Body Shop 🙂
I absolutely adore paella! Let us k ow how the black rice dish comes out!
Will report back for sure!
The symmetry of John Lee Hooker sharing a birthday with Debussy is pleasing to me 🙂
And a customer brought me a huge basket of home grown peaches yesterday, and I had one with breakfast. IMHO no one has yet captured the smell of a perfectly ripe peach-the smell of these is to die for.
I am wearing Guerlain Embruns d’ylang, from a decant, and I love it. It reminds me of that fantastic lily AA that came out in 2012-I gave that bottle away and truly regret it.
Hope it’s a decent Friday for everyone 🙂
The peaches sound amazing you smell fabulous, Carole!
DeniseH the peaches are so good! This customer had a long and distinguished career, and I think he missed his calling-he should have been a peach farmer. And thank you for the compliment-I do love this scent.
ITA w DeniseH, the peaches sound amazing. I do wish that there was a more peach forward scent that captured that uplifting sweet nectar!
Scent sibling in their AA Ylang&Vanille,
Hi twin -we smell very elegant! Do you get a bit of banana at the opening? We are peach-loving twins, too!
you and AnnieA both smell great, MossyBerry !
Exactly…it’s a good birthday day! and my son’s birthday to boot 🙂
Happy Birthday to our son, Robin 🙂 I bet you remember what you were doing x number of years ago.
Happy Birthday to your so , Robin. May it be a special day for both of you to celebrate🥳!
Happy birthday to your big boy, Robin!!
Happy Birthday to your Son!
Thank you everyone!
Claiming points in Chanel 19 EDP. It’s been far too long since I last wore this — just gorgeous.
Yay!
SheriG, one of the most elegant women I’ve ever met had this as her signature scent. She owned a clothing store and she always looked great. I think 19 is an elegant scent.
I love both the edt and the edp, but sometimes the edp seems more approachable. And elegance is an attribute that I strive for (but sadly, seldom reach), so just for today I’ll pretend that I have it. 🙂
I’m wearing the only fragrance I own that I know has Ylang Ylang. Pepper Ylang by Smell Bent was on of the Frankensmellies produced by the brand, and I have most of a full bottle. The pepper is predominant here, but I’m not a Ylang Ylang fan anyway.
Forgot that one! Glad the ylang is not strong enough to annoy you 🙂
DIY ylang body lotion (used it all week) and my newest decant addition: Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coeur d’Ylang. This one’s a bit of a shapeshifter – sometimes it smells like suntan lotion, sometimes like a vanilla liqueur. Gourmand suntan lotion? In any case, lots of vanilla and ylang – a fun scent.
Hadn’t heard of this one. CSP really seems to specialize in fun scents,
You smell great and very summery, Glannys!
I just out this on my purchase list Glannys! Gourmand Suntan Lotion- perfect category.
I am wearing again BBW Delicate Iris (not Simply Iris as I named it yesterday).
Already at the airport waiting to board our plane back home. The memorial service yesterday was beautiful, full of tears and laughter. My sister and I were glad to be there sharing that special moment with everyone. At some point, my aunt, 81 years old made unnecessary comments about not having a religious service that made my cousin’s wife feel very uncomfortable. My cousin was not a religious person and he always said that he didn’t want any type of religious services when he died. I am thankful that the situation didn’t turn into a drama, because it is not easy to make an old and religious person, like my aunt, understand that.
Other than that, I am glad to be on our way home. My youngest sister is on a business trip and my brother-in-law and nieces are planning to visit a farm to pick up peaches and strawberries this weekend. I think I will join them.
Happy and healthy Friday! 🌻
Not strawberries, but raspberries!
Good news on the lack of drama, service sounded like it was lovely & appropriate. Enjoy the weekend fuit!
Thank you, Galbaumgal!
Is Delicate Iris new? I don’t recall the name. ( although they have so many I couldn’t possibly remember them all. Lol)
Have a safe trip home and a relaxing weekend.
Thank you, Lillyjo! I saw the whole line for the first time yesterday. I assume it is new. If I remember correctly there were 8 of them. I tried all of them in paper and they are pretty nice, especially for layering. I also liked the Tonka and the Amber, but didn’t buy them.
I’m just catching up on old posts so please let me add my condolences to you and your family on your cousin’s untimely passing. He sounds like an amazing person, I’m sorry he didn’t have years longer to spread his joy and community spirit.
Thank you, DeniseH!
May the memory of your cousin and the life he lived be a blessing to you and your entire family, pl67! Picking fruit especially peaches sounds idyllic. I hope you also find it comforting.
Thank you, LesLiesse!
Safe travels, the fruit-picking will be fun I bet.
Thank you, Aurora! I am sure it will be fun. We are having a perfect day weather-wise.
Safe travels pl67, and enjoy those peaches and raspberries.
Thank you, Ringthing!
Glad the drama did not develop, and I am sorry for the loss of your cousin. Like LesLiesse says, I hope your orchard trip will be comforting and uplifting.
Thank you, MossyBerry!. Looking forward to having a fun and relaxing day at te farm with my toddler nieces around!
Enjoy the weekend ahead. I hope some time in nature will bring joy and comfort to your heart after the sad loss of your relative.
Thanks, Laila! I am sure it will be peaceful and comforting!
Glad that the memorial service was a worthy remembrance of your cousin’s life. Take care.
Thanks, Jalapeno!
In just a smidge of Iris Poudre which they say has ylang ylang among the notes. I’ve had a crazy but fun week —got to visit a charming town called Gig Harbor, and sleep on a boat for a night. Also played with all 3 grandkids at different times. We are having a gorgeous (although too dry) summer.
I just looked up Gig Harbor. That looks charming, and how neat to spend the night on a boat! Time to romp with grandkids is great. I’m so glad you are having a good trip.
FM Iris Poudre is a stunner. I did not realize it has ylang-ylang in its ingredients. Learned something new. Be well.
Me either, HemlockSillage. Ylang appears to be s stealth ingredient in many fragrances.
You smell fabulous!
Sounds like a fun week with grandkids and boats!
So you smell gorgeous! And Gigi Harbor sounds like fun!
Gig Harbor? Wow! One of my dearest and oldest friends is familiar with that area; she lives in Aberdeen. Small world!
Wearing Jubilation 25 since it has ylang ylang in it. Doing the big grocery shop today and might as well smell fabulous while doing it.
If you want to read something a little funny here it goes. I did a load of laundry and didn’t check a fleeced work coat well enough and a Clinique Happy roller ball went through the wash. It was still full and didn’t leak all over the clothes. Good thing I caught it before I put everything in the dryer.
I’m so glad you caught the roller ball before it turned into a decidedly UNHappy situation🤣
haha saw what you did there, allo.
Good one, allo,
Dawn enjoy smelling fabulous while grocery shopping!
Oh, whew on the washed bottle. I am the worst for missing something even when I think I’ve checked pockets.
According to Oral-B, it is also National Tooth Fairy Day. Do I leave money under my own pillow😉?
As much as I enjoy ylang, am about to crack into my Shalimar l’Essence.
Ooh, wouldn’t it be nice to *get* a new, needed tooth?
Oooh! The new one! Do report back. I am so curious. My mom loved her Shalimar Ode de la Vanille all up, and I read the new L’Essence amps up the vanilla.
Please report on L’Essence. Mine doesn’t come until later today.
Mr Engineer’s daughter is an Endodontist, and the joke is this: How does a dentist say goodnight? Don’t forget to floss! 😆 Ideally tooth fairy’s everywhere will approve!
Really looking forward to your review on the new Shalimar!
L’Essence is quite recognizably a Shalimar flanker, minus the components some view as difficult, i.e. incense, leather & civet. It also omits the bergamot topnote. Think the far drydown will make the Ode lovers happy. I do own Mexique, but will have to compare them on a less sticky & humid day. It’s been a while since I’ve smelled it, but l’Essence may bear a resemblance to Shalimar Eau Legere, without the lime & bergamot.
The 30 ml bottle is attractive and I love the deco font. This will be a great fall scent, while I think of the OG as a dead of winter choice.
Thanks for the report!
Thanks for the review – I’ll have it in mind when I do a full wearing. I had an initial hint of Cuir Beluga.
Mine just arrived and I sprayed a little on a tissue. Seems nice, but will try a full wearing tomorrow. I hope I am wrong, but it appears to be leaking a little by the sprayer as I ended up with some on my fingers.
hello fragrant friends,
I am also wearing one spray of the new Shalimar.
My hives are gone but so is my ac as of last night.
Cannot get anyone till Monday due to heat wave in LA area.
At least a bit cooler by the water.
One spray is enough, first impression is powdery.
Love the bottle.
Shoot, sorry about your ac apsara!!
I would think Oral B should leave the money under your pillow!
I thought I posted yesterday but couldn’t find it. I was wearing HG Moon Bloom🌸
Today I’m in LL Ylang 49 from a generous NSTer swap. Persolaise always raves about its beautiful classique Chypre structure and I can smell why😋
I so wanted to love Moon Bloom but something in it irritated my sinuses. I should try it again though in case I wrongfully blamed it.
I liked it. It reminded me of Gucci Bloom, which I already have, so didn’t see a need to get it.
I know what you mean, that there’s something about it that could tip in an irritating direction.
Allô, can we be Astronomical Twins or even Astrological Twins because I’m in Moon Glory! 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌙
Les deux! Twinning and Twinning!
Jumelage et jumelage ???
Oui oui!
Twins in Ylang 49!
Hi, Twin! We smell SO good!
Lovely LL Ylang 49!
I’m wearing Cristalle edp for the cp. I’m about to do some housework. I’m supposed to go to my grand nephew’s birthday party later but my car is acting up again. I’m not sure yet if I will go.
Uh oh. How old is grand nephew?
He’s a big 3 year old now!
Very sorry to hear your car is acting up again lillyjo. You smell absolutely wonderful if that’s any consolation!
Thanks LesLiesse. A perfumista motto.. ” at least I smell good!”
Love this! (And sooo true 😆😆)
You smell fabulous! I’m still deciding what to wear.
I see we are House twins!
Good luck with your car, lillyjo!
Thank you!
Oh, could someone from the party pick you up?
It’s a bit of a drive so I didn’t ask.
Oh, no with the car problems. Hope it is an easy and inexpensive fix.
Thanks Kris. I can’t really do anything about it atm so I am just crossing my fingers until I can take it in.
That’s a stinking shame about your car acting up.
SOTD= DS & Durga Durga, a big dose of tuberose and ylang. Participating in the CP by accident!
Finally cooler weather here, at least at night, what a relief.
The fire in Wyoming has grown to almost 130,00 acres. Partial control because the back end of the fire has run out of fuel. People with no winter grazing left are weighing whether to go deeper in debt buying hay, or selling their herds and hoping they can rebuild next year, or the year after. It will take 3 years for the grazing to grow back to what it was this year prior to the fire, which was actually pretty good, since we had had a wet, cool, late spring. So sad. My family is not badly impacted, we are in much better shape that most of our neighbors, due to the vagaries of the winds.
Today, I spent the morning getting my Escape’s oil changed, tires rotated, filters and levels checked, and generally making sure I am ready for winter.
This afternoon, another therapeutic massage! I love that my PT told me to get a massage every week in between the PT appointments. So much long term stress, my muscles are pretty much one big knot. Looking forward to another hour of soft smells, soft music and mostly soft touches. Have a good Friday, one and all.
I’m glad your property is not impacted, meredifay, but so sorry for all your neighbors. “The vagaries of the winds” is also something I’m familiar with, here in Los Angeles. My SIL’s house was among a half block of homes left standing after the Altadena fire, but everything around her burned for blocks. She is back in her home after much fire remediation, but there is scorched earth everywhere and it won’t be the same in our lifetimes.
That is heartbreaking for some of your neighbors, and such tough decisions ahead for them. 😢
We in So Cal feel your fire pain snd the vagaries of wind meredifay! I’ve gotta love a PT that says you must be a massage. Which DS & Durga scent are you in? I’ve got their Big Sur Eucalyptus on my (eventual) Buy List.
It says in her posting that she’s in Durga.
I thought that was a typo. Oops. Didn’t realize DS & Durga named a scent after Durga! Thanks Kris.
Yep, there is one named that. No problem.
Fire is so destructive, how heartbreaking about the grazing land.
That fire sounds devastating and what a loss for the community and nature.
I’m so sorry to hear the bad news that the fire continues to devastate the. Immunity and the land and people’s livelihoods.
The heat wave broke here in northeastern Colorado today. Now if only some rain will come in from the monsoon….
I’m in Flower Drench from Beauty Pie, and cp compliant because it has middle notes of ylang ylang.
Omg it was gorgeous this morning! It’s my day off but woke up at my regular alarm time anyway. I walked to get a latte and it was a lovely 61 degrees and sun shining on my face.🌞 Our extended forecast has highs in the 60s and 70s. The weatherman says this is the first time we’ve had temps like this since May, and I’m ready for it! It’s been so hot this summer.
Yesterday was our 32 wedding anniversary and it was really just like any other day except we walked to a neighborhood restaurant with outdoor seating for dinner. No gifts exchanged, BUT my husband did get us tickets this week to see Cheap Trick when they come to town in December so I’m counting that as our gift that we’ll get to enjoy together. I can remember having a crush on Robin Zander when at Budokan live came out. I was 10, lol.
Happy Anniversary!
My crush was Tom Peterson!
Thanks lillyjo!
Happy anniversary, madtowngirl!
Thanks ringthing!
Happy anniversary! And I hope you enjoy the concert
Thanks Kanuka!
Happy Anniversary and how nice to have a concert to look forward to.🎶! We’re enjoying the same weather as you – finally!
Thanks Laila! Isn’t this weather great?! I’m so ready for it.🌞
Happy Anniversary to you both!
Thanks Kris!
Happy Anniversary, a little late!
Thanks Jalapeno!
Back home, dog is very happy (our son housesat) and I’m abloom in Guerlain’s AA Ylang Vanille, so pretty. It is also an AA that lasts a long time on me, unlike many of them, so that’s a plus factor too. This CP has reminded me to wear it more often.
DeniseH im finding that the discovery or re-discovery for many of you of notes I would not normally wear is a delight! And also realizing that scents I like already include the note.
And sometimes, you just never know, you might find yourself liking a scent with notes you normally wouldn’t wear – like I do today in Songes.
Yes, the Ylang Vanille does last a long time, it did so on me yesterday. No need to refresh at all.
I decided to go with 31 Rue Cambon for the CP today. I really love this fragrance. I always say I don’t want to use it up, but I still have over half a bottle, so I don’t think there is much fear of that for quite a while.
You smell very elegant Kris!
Thank you my friend.
Gorgeous scent, Kris!
I would agree😉
Yay, you smell wonderful. And I have a 200mL bottle plus the smaller one!
I thought you had a huge bottle of it. I think mine is a 75ml bottle, but it has been lasting pretty long. I think I have had it for a good 12 years or more. “I need to wear this more often”, as you would say😂
12 yrs and no thunk!?! Wow, that’s amazing self-control, Kris! Enjoy seeming quite beautiful!
I didn’t want to run out as they are pretty costly. However, I know I need to use them a little more frequently.
I’m wearing Le Labo Ylang 49. The scent is pretty heady and wonderful and I do get a hint of that banana peel aspect of ylang ylang. Just a hint.
Have a wonderful Friday!
Hope your Friday went well!
LL Ylang 49 is lovely. I should dig out my sample of it.
I’m wearing Bijan, which gloriously still comes in the best bottle of the 80s and smell s like a million bucks.
Bijan is indeed glorious!
Hello Scented Friends! I hope everyone has had a good week.
My SOTD is Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford. This is the only fragrance that I own that has ylang ylang in it. I don’t even wear this fragrance that often because it doesn’t last very long on me. But it is a beautiful scent.
Wishing each of you a great weekend! 🙂
Wishing you a great weekend too, scentfromabove.
Soliel Blanc is perfect for summer.
TF Soleil Blanc is gorgeous.
In honor of National Eat a Peach Day …
https://youtu.be/JSMubgZoL58?si=0N-_6Tw9jiSUqVub
Am I the only one who thought of this album?
Sotd The Harmonist Moon Glory. My two lucky numbers are 8 and 22, so I always hope that August 22 will be my lucky day! 🤞🤞🤞 At least I smell lovely! 😆
Tea of the Day
Tazo Passion w its prominent hibiscus notes
I love that tea.
Taking me down memory lane with that song LesLiesse. A simpler time for sure.
Yep. Driving with the windows down, radio cranked.
Today I’m in my most summery ylang ylang perfume, Micallef Ylang in Gold. It even has tiny gold flecks in the bottle so you get a very subtle shimmer when it’s applied. Seriously, super subtle nothing like full on glitter skin. I think this one smells pretty beachy and delightful. I have loved it with just a decant for many years and then I received a bottle from a generous swapper in last year’s swap meet.
We’re about to have a heat wave (hopefully the last of this year) starting today and going though Tuesday. The highest temps should be on Saturday and Sunday. No a/c here except an enormous hand-me-down portable one that’s a beast to set up so we’ll probably just roast in here and have lots of iced water and frozen fruit pops.
Stay cool.
I’ll do my best!
Heat wave twin with you; we’ll get through this. Your sotd sounds lovely; NST’ers are just the best!
I hope you can find a way to cool down! Yes, NSTers are the best. 💕
Are you familiar with Chopard Casmir? I’ve heard it’s similar to Ylang in Gold. Do you know if that’s the case?
I’ve never tried Casmir so can’t speak to a similarity, unfortunately. The Micallef is on the sweeter side and wears close to the skin. But I get lovely wafts here and there.
No A/C? Yikes. Time for cold salads and takeout, maybe?
Yeah, it only started getting hot more regularly during summers here about 10 or 15 years ago. So most of the residential places built before then didn’t put in a/c. And yes, takeout and foods that don’t require heat are key!
Fresh strawberries and yogurt smoothie again because it was so delicious yesterday
Alyssa Ashley vintage Musk for the CP and I do like it but not as much as Jovan and more CP tonight with EL PC Amber Ylang which I wear much less than Jasmine White Moss so tonight was the right occasion. Still expecting a few deliveries for my trip on September 3rd, so far receiving everything on schedule and postman and couriers have been especially friendly and helpful.
I prefer Jovan over AA too.
The AA lotion was very popular here in my town at one point. Customers preferred it over the perfume, although I don’t know why.
Interesting Lillyjo, here I’ve noticed that that the cream perfume of l’Aimant is very sought after on eBay and I have no clue either, I love l’Aimant but would think a cream version would not age well.
Gaynor was in town yesterday so we met up and had a good yak, pretty much talked about perfume for an hour and I came away with some wonderful samples and, sadly, she went away with nothing because I forgot to give her the bottle of vintage 1000 I picked up in the op-shop a while ago. Then, last night I watched Rocky for the first time ever. The 1970s were such an incredible decade for American movies…Francis Ford Coppola, Altman, Cassavetes, Friedkin, Malick, Spielberg, Lucas, Scorsese, Woody Allen, Polanski…anyway, what a great day. Wearing L’eau Moheli today and from the number of stars I saw earlier I think it’s going to be sunny. Saw my first magnolia flower in bloom yesterday…must be spring!
Also, Gaynor was wearing a terrific perfume Arte Profumi Samharam , a perfect spicy waft of scent.
What did you think of Rocky? It’s one of my top five favorite movies. Rocky 2 is just as great.
I loved Rocky when it came out but never saw any of the sequels and never was moved to watch it again.
Still think of it whenever I climb the steps at the Philly Museum of Art though — and they still call them the Rocky Steps.
So also curious what you thought of it!
ps yay for magnolia! Weather here is still warm but angle of afternoon light says fall is coming.
Ramping up to be hot, hot, hot here. I’m wearing my new progressive glasses and they are so very much better than the ones I tried 6-7 years ago. The cataract surgeon is booked out 6-9 months so I decided new glasses were worth it. For the CP I am wearing Fils de Joie because my other ylang ylang scents seemed too heavy in the heat.
Happy weekend everyone!
Oh, I just ordered my first pair of prescription progressives. I went to eye MD for first time in 20+ years and he recommended prescription progressives versus the “readers” I was buying online. Previously, I ordered some non prescription progressives and found them very disorienting, could not wear them. Your post gives me hope that the new ones will be better.
My first prescription progressives made me literally nauseous and I kept trying to return them, and they kept insisting I give it a minimum of 2 weeks to adjust. Yep, it took the whole 2 weeks, but I adjusted and they are great.
I’m wearing Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere for the CP today and I realized that I love every iteration of Chanel No 5. Some more than others, but they all keep the integrity of the original.
We have plans to attend an enormous wedding tomorrow that I’ve been looking forward to all summer, it’s in a cool antique venue and I have a new outfit to wear, of course. And I woke up feeling unwell this morning, low grade fever and earache, so I will wait and see how I’m doing tomorrow. I hope I can go, even if it’s with a mask on.
Oh, no! Hope you feel well enough to go to the wedding!
Hope you’re feeling better tomorrow – the wedding sounds lovely, and I think attending a wedding is such an uplifting experience!
I hope you can go!
Oh dear, good luck ringthing!
Aiyiyi! Fingers crossed that you can make it to the wedding!
I think homemade lotion is the way to go to get the full ylang ylang experience, and combo with sweet orange sounds great.
I was initially going for something obvious, a white flower bomb that is Hiram Green Moon Bloom, with its notes of tuberose, jasmine and ylang ylang. While I was looking for it, I found a bottle of vintage Eau d’Hadrien, a citrus and green notes bomb but with its notes buttressed by ylang ylang in the base, so I went for it instead.
I forgot how glorious this old formula was! Citrusy and mossy with a hint of creamy flowers in the bottom. I tried the modern version, which still lists cypress and ylang ylang in the notes, several years ago and I hated the watered down, bathroom cleaner type of citrus formula so I will stick to the vintage juice, while it lasts. I’m really enjoying wearing it right now. This all takes me back to my early perfumista days, it was one of the first perfumes I fell in love with.
How lovely…I forgot Hadrien even had ylang, have not smelled the vintage version in eons. Glad it has a decent shelf life.
I miss Sud, that was my favorite, but have avoided trying modern versions, figured no way could they be as good.
Glad you still have a bottle of the old stuff that you love, rather than the disappointing new version.
Manoumalia, for the CP and because I adore it.
Nice 🙂
I had a crazy mixed-up morning today! Planned a leisurely grocery trip followed by a stop at BBW and lunch @McD’s and suddenly remembered we had a yoga class first thing at a nearby library and if we didn’t all of a sudden hurry we’d be late, only to realize halfway there it was the week for the class to be virtual and not in person. Oy! The rest of the trip was pretty goofy, too, but it ended on a good note when I treated myself to a few minis on sale @BBW and used a coupon for an even better deal.👍
For today’s cp, I’m wearing Goutal’s Songes. I fell in love with this fragrance from first sniff, which always puzzled me since I rarely meet a white floral scent that I even like, much less love, but I sure do this one.❤️
Hoping everyone stays safe from Erin and all the other weather anomolies we’ve been experiencing lately. 🤞A nice day here for a change, mild temps and ⛅️🌤️.
That sounds like something I would do! Glad you finished off with treats at BBW.
We are having decent weather. I know there was coastal flooding and rip tides on the Delaware beaches near me, but nothing inland, we did not even get a bad storm.
Crazy mixed-up morning twins with you today. Enjoy your wonderful weather while it lasts!
I had a lovely time chatting to Kanuka yesterday, there aren’t that many people in the world who enjoy talking about perfume so much!
It was a beautiful spring afternoon, so it was a great day all round.
One the way home, I went into a fashion shop (it’s been an institution in Dunedin for 40 years) that stocks CdG, and they also had a perfume from designer Anne Deulemeester. It is a nice leather, but I nearly laughed out loud when I saw the price – nearly USD$500. That makes everything else on my buy list look completely reasonable.
Ha, I would not pay that for anything either. Did you get anything from your list though?
I’m in Chanel No 19 edt. Hoping the green-ness will counteract the heat that’s settling in for the next while.
I started to itemize my stash just to see how many bottles I have; I also looked for ylang ylang on the first page of bottles that I recorded; it’s at about 25%. I’ll continue my project since it’s going to be scorching out for the next week or so.
Stay cool everyone!
I’m guessing you’ll find what I did, that many of your favorites have ylang.
Smelling great in No. 19 EdT!
Happy Friday! Trying Shalimar L’Essence today. It’s a very smooth, modern take on the original w/ amped tonka, vanilla and powdery suede instead of leather to my nose.
I accidentally click post too soon. eheheh 😆 I quite like it and look forward to trying it again if/when the weather cools off here. ☀️
I was never really a fan of OG Shalimar and do think the Millésimes were my gateway drugs. Now I wonder what I didn’t like about Shalimar. 🤷♀️ I guess Guerlain has had their way with me and their plan worked. 🍋🍨🐄😅
I think the same way you do. I never cared for the OG Shalimar either but did like the Millesimes in iris and jasmine.
Since I just got a taste of the Shalimar L’Essence, I am not saying too much yet though it seems like a toned down version of the original. I will try it for real tomorrow since it is predicted to be cooler outside.
So you like the new Shalimar iteration?
SOTD = Chanel Eau Premiere EDP
Lovely! I have the 40mL size which came either via a swap or freebie. Regardless, I love it! 🥰
I usually try, and fail to, get the $s off from a minimum purchase at Target. I was hoping to do it yesterday but somehow when I tallied up my “wants” I ended up not making it. I have, therefore, decided to stop doing this because I don’t want to disappoint myself.
In other news, my never-ending quest for organization has me thinking a lot about how to organize. Don’t get me wrong – just about the only organization book I got over the years was the one by Marie Kondo and I organized myself out of losing it. Anyway, here are some books from The NY Times:
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/19/books/review/organization-books.html?unlocked_article_code=1.fk8.AyIN.ksM8g4feLRMr&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Lol at losing the organization book! ( laughing with you, not at you😀)
Your Marie Kondo book organized itself! 🤣🤣
My daughter bought me the book on Swedish death cleaning by Margareta Magnusson. It was quite entertaining, not as severe as the Kondo method. I am not going to thin my perfume herd anytime soon.
I will check the list.
Another scorcher here in the Valley of Los Angeles. Not as brutal as yesterday, but it’s not pleasant outside.
Not compliant, but I’m wearing a great vetiver for hot weather: Vetiver Royal Bourbon from Oriza L Legrand. It’s got a wonderfully cooling minty note.
Happy Friday, everyone!
It is hot enough there that you should be excused from any community project, Daniel! Stay cool this weekend.
Gotta wear a perfume that fits the weather. Hope your heat tempers sometime soon.
Thanks, Jalapeño! It’ll be hot through the weekend, cooling off next week. Mint notes are welcome in this heat, so tomorrow I’ll probably be spritzing Geranium Pour Monsieur.😊
Happy Friday Daniel! How was your family’s visit? The mole? The Seagull? Other adventures, culinary, cultural or fragrant? What scents did you wear for them?
LesLiesse! I hope you’re keeping cool in this heatwave.
A wonderful weekend with my family. They loved the play, loved LACMA, and loved Osteria Mozza. (The mole was interesting, but I don’t think any of us will be rushing back to have it again – some fab appetizers, though, and the atmosphere was fun and festive.)
My sisters sampled dozens of perfumes, and I sent them home with many travel atomizers – Chanel, Malle, Parfum d’Empire, Givenchy… My mom only wears perfume on rare occasions, and when she does it’s White Shoulders, because it reminds her of her mother. But I convinced her to try Cuir de Russie, and she ADORED it. She went home with enough to last her for many years.😊
White Shoulders was what my aunt always wore! I’m very happy your mom liked the Cuir de Russie. And what a perfect idea to gift your sisters travel atomizers of those fabulous fragrances! Holy Moley, no mole in the future then. As for heat, it’s fairly bad here too. I suspect we will all be able to wear summer fragrances into October at this rate.
Embruns d’Ylang for the CP win! Using the search by notes/my shelf tool on Fragrantica confirmed that I am a big ylang ylang fan, and a fan of the “yellow floral” note in general. I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s choices!
I think of myself as a big fan but have never really found a ylang-forward fragrance that I adore, honestly I’m happier adding the EO to lotion. Maybe I need to go back and try again?
And I should try an essential oil and lotion! I don’t reliably sniff out ylang (though this CP helped). Fragrantica showed it’s often part of the big florals I enjoy most: Estee, Tuscany per Donna, Diorama, Ubar, and Jill Sander No. 4 are ylang forward on me.
Re: daily lemming on Je I’d Golden Nectar ice cream w ylang-ylang. I stopped by Beverly Hills Jeni’s figuring if any store got that flavor, it would be them. Wrong. They never had it and never heard of it. I showed them Robin’s post, and the store mgr was quite intrigued, said she would report to corporate that someone came in all excited to try it. Now for bragging g rights: I promised myself that if they had Golden Nectar, I would try a scoop (research & reporting purposes 😉😉), but if they didn’t I would walk out without eating any other flavor. Mission Accomplished! 🎉🎉
Here’s your ✨gold star! What fun that you called their attention to it!!
Proud to wear it!
Never heard of it? Don’t they look at their own website, LOL???
But OMG. Congratulations if that was your goal, and I will likewise happily give you a gold star, but your goal does not compute with me, to walk into Jeni’s and walk back out without eating ice cream.
(Honestly if you told me I had to give up ice cream or give up perfume, sorry, perfume would not stand a chance.)
Robin, I’m with you, but right now I’m trying to take off all the unhealthy weight I packed on during my uncle’s passing in 2024 and my aunt’s this summer. Between takeout and comfort food (ice cream included), I completely fed my feelings. One day a week now I eat what I want (ice cream is on the menu), then 6 days I keep it super healthy, fruit for dessert (eating a peach tonight for National Eat a Peach Day), and a full 64 oz of water. So this week we’re celebrating my goddaughter’s college graduation tomorrow night, meaning Saturday is eat whatever I want, including ice cream and 🥂 to toast her future. That said, I did make a purchase of a bag of long handled metal tasting spoons in a bag that said, “ One voluptuous bite is worth more than all the forgettable ice cream in the world!”
Oh, then good for you, sorry for pushing my own ice cream goals on you!
I give up ice cream when I’m not at goal weight too 🙂
CP compliant with Niki de Saint Phalle parfum, which apparently has some ylang ylang in there along with the rest of the cast of thousands. (Also, the bottle, that square one with the sculptural snakes makes me so very happy.)
Nice!!
Indeed, if they left out the ylang nobody would be the wiser 😉
It is one of the all time great bottles!
Very late today, as I dealt with the cleaners first thing in the morning, picking the kid up at the ferry from sleepaway camp mid-day, and trying to wrap up everything at work for a week’s vacation in and around all that.
But! I do have a peach to eat, thanks to our trip to the Okanagan last weekend. (And I need to eat it before we leave.) And I will listen to some Tori Amos today to celebrate her birthday.
CP compliant, apparently, with Puente Iris Doux, though I don’t smell the ylang-ylang. It reminds me of my time in Germany last year. Very glad I got a small bottle before he limited everything to crazy expensive 50 mls.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation!
Hope the peach was lovely, and adding more wishes for a perfect vacation!
Enjoy the vacation!
Posting even later than ockeghem! Had some unexpected things come up today, so I am finally getting over here to NST. I will eat a peach tomorrow, since today’s fruit of the day was ripe, juicy Bartlett pear.
SOTD = Samsara EdP. Ylang present and accounted for in this one!
I was just starting to wonder where you were! You smell beautiful!
Thanks!
Today was a Friday that behaved like a Monday. 😖
Pear works! (If not for the named day.) Hope all the unexpected things have been put to rest.
Wearing Perris Monte Carlo Nosy Be Ylang Ylang sample. I swore I would buy this in 2025 and I haven’t gotten it yet. Every time I wear this perfume, I am blown away. It is a floral banana to me, in the best possible way. I keep getting distracted and buying other perfumes. Nosy Be Ylang Ylang is like nothing else I have.
I think I have to wait another month before I make any more perfume purchases.
Maybe that is the one I really need to try!
That one does sound good!
