Thursday scent of the day 8/21

Posted by Robin on 21 August 2025 94 Comments

It's Almost-Friday, National Spumoni Day and Count Basie’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

More points for me, in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum, layered over my DIY sweet orange + ylang ylang lotion.

Reminder: on 8/22, wear a fragrance with ylang ylang, if you have one. (This is a repeat, suggested by Kanuka.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Guerlain Rose Amira. Gorgeous dark red jammy rose. It reminds me a lot of Rose Jam but classier. If you love rose, do give this a sniff.
For dinner tonight I’m making paella Valenciana (minus the snails!!!). It’s been a while since I last made one so I am not sure if I can achieve the delicious socarrat.

I had to look that word up, although I guessed what it was. Good luck with your paella–sounds quite ambitious!

Paella is always fun to make! Good heavy pan and low low hear! I admit to precooking most of the meats and fishes a little bit ahead of time. 🙂

I pulled Acqua Decima from my stash of decants. It’s a good citrus, with lemon predominant without smelling like Pledge.

Good one, Robin. Terracotta is on my ylang list too, though it looks like it won’t make it this week.

I am in Lush Jungle body spray – a full tropical forest experience, ylang included.

SOTD = old lost sample, The Difference Company – lable says Santa…and the rest is illegible. It did smell like sandalwood and something fresh for a while, but now 6 hours in, it is gone gone gone. Sample tunked!
Currently cooking a batch of granola. Then, since it is cool and I am feeling inspired, maybe whip up the banana zucchini bread. Or, take a nap. LOL. A relaxing day!

Sotd BBW Simple Iris. I just grabbed this and another one called Pistachio from the store. They are both great scents and long lasting on my skin and for a 2.5ml bottle at $8.95 that is basically free. For iris lovers I highly recommend it.

I didn’t have the time on Tuesday to thanks Robin, Laila and Jalapeno for their condolences. I appreciate them deeply.
The funeral went as expected and we are attending a memorial service later this afternoon. Flying back home tomorrow. In the meantime my sister and I decided to spend sometime outside today to release the stress and have lunch together. It is ridiculous hot here, so we are definitely looking forward to be back to more pleasant temperatures.

    Happy Thursday! 🌻

Thursday is (literally) a heavy lifting day for me, and I’m in Hermes Eau de Rhubarb Ecarlate0-showel gel and the EDC. I love its red bottle.

And on a trivial note I’m having a really good skin day-no redness, no dryness, whole face looks pretty uniform. It doesn’t happen often so I am enjoying this lol 🙂

My dentist is sending in a form to say that the crown that I need is necessary and not cosmetic and see if my health insurance will pay for it. I am just happy that I don’t need any other major dental stuff done. Just a crown and impressions for my partials.

We are enjoying a few days of false fall, it’s pleasantly cool and cloudy to give off a September feeling. Just took a huge pile of fall clothes over to my little old sewing lady to hem and tighten buttons in fall anticipation but I know summer isn’t going anywhere yet.

I’m wearing another recent purchase, Arte Profumi Samharam. It’s a lovely incense, it’s very similar to some others I already have, but I’m glad I have it. It was part of my travel shopping and it’s a gorgeous red bottle!

I bade farewell to my favorite pool today; it was a short season and it closes tomorrow. It was a short season. With all the heat we’ve had this summer, it’s hard to believe it opened later than usual because it was too cool earlier this summer, but it did. The past 2 weeks it’s only been open 11 am – 1 pm anyway. It was too cool this morning to swim much, + the weather forecast was for bright sun 🌞 today; instead it was mostly cloudy and chilly with only peeks of sun. But I will miss it; indoor swimming just doesn’t do it for me.

This week’s cp reminded me of a fragrance I bought and rarely wear, so that’s my SOTD, Guerlain AA Ylang Vanille. I don’t remember where or when or even why I bought it as the ylang-ylang note is too strong for me. But at least I gave it another try today. 😇 It’s just ok.

Going to one of the last outdoor concerts in the area tonight, a Steely Dan tribute band. I will miss these, too, when they’re over.🎶

    Happy Almost Friday!

Oh, I did! Fantastic Steely Dan tribute band called Brooklyn Charmers (not sure why, they’re all Chicago-area musicians). We were fortunate to see the real Steely Dan years ago; they were basically studio musicians and rarely toured.
Here’s one of their best-known songs as performed by the Brooklyn Charmers.

SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EDT

Nice! I wore howmanysprays4 today, not to conserve it but God knows I have several lifetimes worth of perfumes for many people.

My neighbor called me this morning ranting and raving about just hearing about adjustments needed to comply with township rules (although it’s possible that it is some other agency). I received a note myself and I have one item I must fix before the re-inspection on August 27. My opinion is there’s not enough time but then again, who knows whose fault the delay is from. I do have the smoke / CO alarms and offered this neighbor my 2 “extras” which I do need to replace for when I need them. I am somewhat concerned about this neighbor because she’s had a string of bad luck recently due to our power outage and I basically just told her to look on the bright side because she’s accomplished a good number of things in the past few weeks.

Here’s another gift article from the New York Times. It is about a very large Wyeth painting that will be on display relatively soon in Delaware. For those in the northeast U.S. or for those visiting, I think it is worth a trip!

98 degrees here today. I sure will be glad when this heat wave breaks!

Playing musical parking spaces for the next day or two. My apartment complex is repainting all the parking spaces during the next 4 days, and tomorrow is when my area is getting the treatment. Gotta have the care moved by 7:15 tomorrow morning, but why wait?

SOTD = scent twins with Robin in Guerlain Terracotta. It bloomed beautifully this afternoon!

I meant to get here much earlier but the day got away from me. Today I wore my travel spray of Sonoma Scent Studio Yin and Ylang for the first time in a long while, and it’s been delightful. Yesterday I was unscented while working at the office but I put on La Via del Profumo (Abdes Salaam Attar) Tasneem/Tasnim in the evening. It’s a very lush ylang ylang perfume, almost like sticking your nose inside a flower.

Gosh, now I cannot remember if I ever smelled that SSS.

But the Tasnim must be gorgeous, he does such amazing florals.

sotd = vintage Vol de Nuit from a sample

An old friend visited me from out of town today, so I wore an old friend of a perfume. It was lovely to enjoy the company of both.

No CP points today, but had to say that Spumoni is my BFFIC (best forever favorite ice cream) and sadly is not available anywhere near me.

Spumoni is wonderful stuff. I can get the real thing at an Italian restaurant in a neighboring town, wish I could send you some.
