It's Hump Day, plus National Lemonade Day and World Mosquito Day. Birthdays: H. P. Lovecraft, Eero Saarinen, Jacqueline Susann, Isaac Hayes, Connie Chung, Robert Plant. What fragrance are you wearing?
Points for me, in Hermès Vanille Galante, layered over my DIY sweet orange + ylang ylang lotion.
Reminder: on 8/22, wear a fragrance with ylang ylang, if you have one. (This is a repeat, suggested by Kanuka.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Woke up feeling quite refreshed, and to go along with that I spritzed a healthy amount of my beloved Iroaz. For those curious, the house is Lostmarc’h and fragrantica describes it as follows: “Top notes are Lemon Verbena, Green Grass, Lemon Peel and Pink Pepper; middle notes are Wild Rose, Sea Notes, Lotus and Ylang-Ylang; base notes are Iris, Sandalwood, Musk and Patchouli.” It’s light and lovely, and was quite the adventure to track down once I’d thoroughly fallen for it.
I’m not familiar with this one but the notes make it sound lovely!
Mosquitoes get their own day?!! NO!!!!
Ah, okay – it marks the day Ronald Ross discovered the link between mosquitoes and malaria. Still, if you ask me, it should be called Ronald Ross Day or World Malaria Day.
Today I layered two ylang scents over my own DIY ylang body lotion: Caron Acaciosa and Teo Cabanel Alahine. The result? Juicy white and yellow florals from Acaciosa meet the ambery, resinous ylang of Alahine. A lush, sweet combo. Nice.
Maybe I should give this layering a Lovecraftian name in honor of H. P. Lovecraft’s birthday. The King in Yellow was written by Chambers, but its themes echo Lovecraft’s work – and the book strongly influenced him.
Thus, I christen this union of Acaciosa and Alahine “The Queen in Yellow”.
Such a lovely name!
I haven’t tried either of your SOTD’s but I seem to remember Alahine had quite a following at some point. I’m sure you smell great.
Thank you!
Yes, it was all those battle cries of “Alahiiiiiine!” echoing through the halls of NST that made me curious to try it. 🪓😂
You beat me to the “Alahiiiiiine!” yodel!
Hello.
Sotd is Guerlain AA Florabloom Forte. When I was placing my order of Shalimar l’Essence yesterday I almost caved and bought Florabloom Absolu. I had to talk myself out of it (for now) by how little I used Forte since I acquired it. I’ll wait till I test it out in person.
Don’t feel bad. When I was placing my order for Shalimar L’Essence yesterday I almost caved and bought LPRN Honey Rose after Hera mentioned it. I talked myself out of that one. I don’t need anything else though it sounds nice.
That one does look really nice. I would not buy unsniffed though, I am out of sync with everyone else but Guerlain disappoints me more often than not.
Today I found CdG Rouge in my bag of decants. It’s in rough shape, mostly evaporated, but it still smelled good, so I sprayed it. Brown goop (but good smelling) on my arms and chest. I need another decant of this. Top note is supposed to be beetroot, but I’m not getting that.
Brown goop does not sound appealing…glad it still smelled good!
SOTD = Rose Mohur, the newer and lesser version, but still very very pretty.
I got fired up this chilly morning and put away some of my summer perfumes in rotation, Bye bye for now, Chic et Boheme and Summer Vibes, and pulled out some year round staples, Mitsouko, Snowy Owl and Rose Mohur among them.
I have a terrifying number of samples and decants, found several things I have forgotten I had, and am not sure I have even sniffed. When is the next swap meet, and freebie meet? I need to move some of these on – not point letting them evaporate in a box in my closet ( although, when I opened that box, it smelled GOOD! Lol!
Back at the ranch, the fire is up to 120,000 acres burned, still not under control at all, but the focus of the first is far to the east of my family’s property, so we are assessing the damage.
Headed to the grocery store for my weekly stock up on staples trip. Not much on the list, so should be relatively painless.
Then someone gave us a huge zucchini, and I am thinking about make several loaves of bannana zuchinni bread to freeze for winter. I love this toasted, buttered and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar for a sturdy snack when the weather is very inclement. My PT went very well, the therapist was American of Iraq heritage, and we talked about Middle Eastern history and the joy of horses, among other things.
Stay safe and well, everyone.
I’m very sorry to read about the fire destruction, you may have mentioned it before, but this is my first time reading about it. I hope things calm down soon. And courage until it doesn’t.
On another note, is Rose Mohur the same as Neela Vermeire Mohur?
Oh, yes, I have my perfumes sorted by main note, so I think of it as rose Mohur, but it is just Mohur, isn’t it? All these hours later, still a pleasant dry down on my wrist. This really is a masterpiece!
Robin is announcing a swapmeet in September and though there isn’t a freebiemeet you can do that anytime.
The banana zucchini bread sounds delicious!
Stay safe with that fire going on.
Yes….we are done with standalone freebiemeets! I do think best is to give away in the regular weekend polls.
Ok, thanks!
Thanks, Kris!
Hoping that fire dissipates soon.🤞
Someone also gave me a huge zucchini – reminds me of a baseball bat! Not sure yet what I’m going to do with it, I have no desire to bake anything in the summer.
I have banannas that are getting really ripe and my baseball bat zucchini, and we are having a couple days of cool weather, so I will get fired up tomorrow afternoon and turn on the oven!
Rain is headed my way down here in Colorado in the next few days. Maybe some will show up in WY as well?
The ranch is in northern Wyoming, so hopefully a big regional weather system could spread water everywhere along the Rockies. The horrible hot dry weather is hard on the livestock, the wildlife, the trees and the range in general. Rain would be a blessing!
I am copying ringthing with her scents from yesterday. Jergens Sandalwood body butter and Chanel no 5 L’eau. Smells divine.
You guys are eventually going to make me buy that Jergens!
Oh, the other Jergens body butters are good as well. I love the citrus and use that one a lot and the rose is pretty nice. I know they have a lavender one and a eucalyptus one too, but I have not tried those.
I did know about the first 3, because you guys all keep mentioning how good they are!
Wearing Jubilation 25 today. Had my Walmart grocery order delivered and not a happy camper. No text or anything about items that were either out of stock or the shopper couldn’t find. Normally, when I do grocery delivery, my order is bagged and this time it wasn’t and I was puzzled on why. So I am getting a refund on what was missing. I was hoping to put off a Costco run but now it’s a Costco run today.
That is such a beauty, I wore it last Monday.
You smell wonderful!
Jubilation 25 is gorgeous.
Sorry about your crappy delivery!
Had a wonderful visit from my mom and my sisters – I miss them already. In addition to some fabulous meals, we enjoyed a trip to LACMA, where I hadn’t been in years. We saw only a small part of it – the third floor of the modern art wing – but what an amazing collection. There was a stunning Picasso I’d never seen before: “Bar-Table with Musical Instruments and Fruit Bowl,” from his Cubist period circa 1913. It was recently donated to the museum by actor Jim Carrey(!) You can read about it here: https://lacmaonfire.blogspot.com/2025/08/jim-carrey-donates-1913-picasso-to-lacma.html
Today I’m in Opus III from Amouage, a lovely floral with a ylang ylang heart. Happy Wednesday, everyone.
Nice! Some of Picasso’s work is absolutely mesmerizing.
Good for Jim Carrey, and so glad you had a great visit with family!
In a very green mood, so wearing Covey today.
Must be Covet?
There is actually a Covey perfume as I looked it up, but I wasn’t familiar with it. My guess is she meant Covet too though.
You live you learn!
I’m inspired by others mentioning 24 Faubourg so wearing it today with its lovely Ylang-ylang note.
Lovely and fancy!
🥰
Very elegant!
Commando today. All last week and this week have had crazy hives, they are better finally today.
But of course must check to see what everyone is wearing.
That sounds very aggravating, do you know what triggered it?
I’m glad they are going away.
Ick. That’s a shame.
Hives! I started itching in sympathy. Hope they subside soon!
Ha…just the word hives makes me itchy too.
I am wearing Marions-Nous by Oriza L Legrand, famous for the tassles on their bottles.
It’s an aldehydic floral, and very pretty.
I was reading about it and it has wonderful reviews. Sounds like it is very lovely.
Oh yes, those tassels! 😍
Sotd Moon Glory sample for CP and an upcoming plink! Ordered multiple new samples of this because $350!for a FB is in the yikes category ! Also ordered samples oThe Harmonist new Florae Nebula and their fresh scent discovery set.
Gosh today’s birthdays would make a rivetib. Dinner party!
It looks like Neiman Marcus has a travel spray of Moon Glory for 60 dollars. If you sign up for email you get 15% off. ( in case you run out and want to get more)
Good to know. I think my 4 sample of MG will last awhile.
Just picturing Jacqueline Susann and Robert Plant making chitchat is giving me the giggles 🙂
I’m wearing a recent purchase, Queen of the Night from The Merchant of Venice.
That is such a gorgeous bottle!
My SOTD for the CP credit is MFK APOM. It’s delightful, sweet and light. I don’t get the musks that some people comment or complain about. In general I think I must be at least a bit anosmic to musks.
…which probably makes it easier to like more perfumes, I would think?
My sotd is SL Fleur d’oranger. I received a perfume compliment from a coworker. I was afraid I had applied too much, but apparently it was just right.
Wonderful! I love perfume compliments, even if I hardly ever get any!
Nice.
Sweet!
That’s always nice, isn’t it? I just found my sample of that. I should give it a wear!
There’s nothing like a perfume compliment!
sotd = l’ambre des merveilles
because I woke up thinking of it. Today the perfume smells strongly of pine! And less of the sweet amber patchouli, more of the salty mineral quality I adore. Yum. 😋
I like this one in the fall; have you tried the Bleu version? Lots of salty, mineral quality in this one, my SOTD.
I usually like l’ambre des merveilles best in fall too, but for some reason I was in the mood this morning, despite the sweltering heat here. Maybe the high temperature is why I got a different scent journey this time. 🙂
I tried Bleue and it was a no go for me. The musk overwhelmed the rest of the scent. I was sad (such a pretty blue bottle) but not surprised. Musks are often either love it or can’t wear it for me.
You smell great!
thank you, hajusuuri! My love for merveilles runs deeeeeep. 🤭
I should give L’Ambre another sniff. I came across it fairly early in my manic perfume phase, and wasn’t sure about it. Ought to be easy enough to find.
It is easy to find! I’ve seen it at Sephora along with the other bottles of merveilles. I hope you’ll give it a go. It’s an interesting scent by that interesting perfumer, Jean-Claude Ellena!
Taking a break from ylang today, I’m enjoying a scent from my favorite summer genre, the sea! The Bleu version of Hermes EdM is described as a minimalist sea water scent, and its salty, marine, slightly woodsy notes certainly make it one. Another one I ❤️ by Christine Nagel.
What a treat it was this morning to enjoy coffee, the newspaper and nature outside on our little deck. Finally, a beautiful summer day! Yoga at the library earlier this afternoon and looking forward to dinner outside on our screened porch for a change, something we haven’t done much of this summer.
Happy Hump Day to all! 🌞 ☕️ 🗞️ 🧘♀️ 🍽️
The blue EdM is the easiest for me to wear. I’ve been re sampling the other versions lately though.
Your SOTD is one of the very few aquatic perfumes that I can wear. Good stuff!
I was just wondering if screened porches are going to lose their appeal. So glad you got to enjoy yours today!
I hope your screened porch time is lovely.
I was just talking to my sweetheart about doing something to avoid the mosquitos so we can sit outside in the evening.
96 degrees here, and the afternoon news is talking about when the Colorado ski resorts will open. 🤣🤣🤣 Hint: it’s November.
Teflon kitty got a teeny bit of some favorite treats earlier today, sour cream and steak. I’ve cleared both with her vet, who has said they are OK unseasoned and on an occasional basis. Too much dairy can give cats pancreatitis.
SOTD = Demeter Frankincense. I am getting a bit of of root beer along with the incense today.
TK has excellent taste!
I think I spoiled my dog with treats and now he is super picky about his dog food.
Tef was pickier about her food when she was younger. She wouldn’t eat fish-flavored anything at all. That’s not the case now with her current brand of wet food (aka gooshy food).
Our cat likes cheese. He is picky about what he likes, prefers Parmesan and Tillamook cheddar.
Wow, your cat has high end taste!
LOL, steak with mushrooms and sour cream sauce would be one of my favorite treats as well! Lucky kitty!
Teflon will take a pass on the ‘shrooms, thanks. 😉
Root Beer! I could have sworn I smelled that in Mugler Alien!
Lucky kitteh for having steak and sour cream!
Never smelled root beer in Alien! That tactical nuclear jasmine overpowers everything else for me.
But I was craving a root beer float for a bit during the hottest part of the afternoon.
Only 93 degrees here today. 🥵😅
You smell great. I had a bottle of Demeter Frankincense! It was so good.
Thanks! I am enjoying a travel spray that I picked up directly from Demeter’s website.
Carrying out the CP with my sample of Vesper Glitz for the ylang ylang. Weirdly, something in the dry down reminds me of Bulgari Black. Not sure why that should be but definitely a rubbery vanilla vibe from it.
Now I am craving Black . .
I miss Black too, haven’t had any in ages.
Wearing Oscar de la Renta.
A classic! It smells better to me now than it used to!
It is a classic, for sure! I recently saw Jamie Lee Curtis interviewed; apparently it’s the only fragrance she wears.
I never would have guessed that Jamie Lee Curtis wears OdlR!
Exactly! I was quite surprised too.
You smell fantastic. I wore OdlR exclusively for many years. And it was because of Jamie Lee. I saw her spritzing herself with it in a movie, so I went and tried it, and loved it so much. 🙂
Thank you, tiffanie! I wore it years and years ago too. I’ve been through several bottles.
I love the movie link! That’s cool..do you remember which movie it was?
