Tuesday scent of the day 8/19

Posted by Robin on 19 August 2025 149 Comments

It’s Tuesday, plus World Humanitarian Day, International Orangutan Day, National Aviation Day and Coco Chanel’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I still cannot find my Chanel Cristalle, so I'm in Cristalle Eau Verte...no ylang unless you count the "abstract white flowers". Tea at the moment is Harney's CTC Assam.

Reminder: on 8/22, wear a fragrance with ylang ylang, if you have one. (This is a repeat, suggested by Kanuka.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Loop teapot from &klevering ("The Loop teapot combines artistic design with practical functionality. Its flowing handle, inspired by a loop, gives the teapot a dynamic, sculptural character") is €45 at Connox.

I am wearing Gabrielle body oil.
I feel like our summer is coming to an end. Excited that my daughter is coming home this weekend after 8 months of volunteering and traveling.
I am also excited to try some new perfumes from Guerlain, the new Shalimar and the new LPRN Honey Rose.

Hera with respect-no way is summer waning lol! I haven’t had enough time off yet. You smell great and I’m glad you’ll get a good visit with your daughter. Still enjoying the SL scent you swapped with me-thank you for it 🙂

I’ve been up since 4am, when a loud clap of thunder shook the house. Lots of rain and storms followed but I think it’s over now. I see a nap in my future.
I’m wearing No 5 L’Eau and claiming points.

Nap sounds like like a good idea–here the storms were from 7-11 pm. The grass looks so much happier today. Scent cousins with you in Eau Premiere, ylang aplenty.

No CP points for me. I’m wearing Hermann à mes Côtés, because I could not settle on any of the decants I pulled on the weekend. I only have one fragrance with Ylang Ylang in the name, so I’m saving it for Friday. I’m just wandering through decant bags this week.

Wearing Fzotic Pantoum. Another full bottle thunk! I enjoyed this scent a lot. A no-brainer especially on very hot and humid days.
We are having gorgeous temperatures in the mid 70s since yesterday. I hope the worst of the summer heat is already gone for the season.

My younger sister and I are flying to Tennessee early tonight. One of my cousins, 58 years old, passed away on Saturday. He was having coffee on the porch with his wife early in the morning and in a fraction of a second he was gone. He had a cardiac arrest. He didn’t have heart problems, and his recent annual medical checkup didn’t show any health issues. He was very active and full of energy. It was shocking, especially at his age. We will be back home on Friday after the funeral tomorrow. Life is so short and I think that I am not grateful enough or enjoying enough at least the most beautiful and simplest things that  we are offered every day. I feel that I am not doing anything for that to change, which is very unfortunate. At least, let’s show love and appreciation to people around us. Even a kind smile can be meaningful to someone.

Wishing you all health, peace and love! Happy Tuesday! 🌻

Oh my, that is very sad and I can barely imagine the horrible experience his wife went through. I agree with your reflections about how a sudden, tragic, or early death can impact your own values and behaviors. It definitely gives you food for thought and the impetus to enjoy passing beauties and try for kindness.

It was a tremendous shock for his wife to witness that moment. It will take long time for her and their 2 grown-up children to process his passing.
He was a great human being, loved by his family, friends and specially his community where he was very active. His life was very meaningful. I hope I can learn, at least a bit, to be a better person for others, for myself, and enjoy the beauty of life despite the difficulties. I wouldn’t want to leave this world having wasted most of the wonderful things that surrounds me every day.

For the CP I’m wearing what I consider the ultimate ylang ylang–not that I’ve tried them all–Perris Monte Carlo’s Ylang Ylang Nosy Be. Wow is it ever gorgeous, sumptuous and a bit spicy, too. I feel quite glamourous. I’ll be going out for somewhat belated birthday dinner with a friend this evening and it’ll be a big splurge. Hooray!

Thank you, both of you! My birthday was Sunday. My friend’s was in June! However, she’s been unwell for various reasons, and only now feels well enough to go out, so we’re calling it the celebration of both of our birthdays. Houston has “restaurant week” which stretches for over a month and some nice restaurants have special deals. We’re taking advantage of that. I plan to have either salmon or scallops–haven’t decided yet which. I’ll see what I feel like when I get there!

I wore Jub.25 yesterday and I am wearing Cococabana today. I wonder if the slightly bitter aspect of it is due to ylang ylang.

Ylang ylang can behave like an amped up version of jasmine sometimes. It’s very heady. Definitely falls in the “yellow flowers” bucket.

I share a birthday with Coco Chanel …which is probably the only thing I have in common with her when I think about it. It was a bit cold and snowy on the hills for going out to celebrate but I cooked a roast and a friend sent me some cakes and we watched the Magnificent Seven . I never liked westerns growing up but I have watched a lot in recent years and really enjoy them now, especially the cinematography and wide landscape shots. Wearing Fils de Joie for the CP

Happy birthday!! So glad you managed cake and a good movie even if it was too cold to go out.

Austenfan already said as much above, but I think it is lovely to be reminded once a year that you have nothing in common with Coco Chanel.

Happy birthday belatedly! Like you, I never used to like Westerns but enjoy the good ones now. I also love the landscapes and the amazing actors I’ve watched in them so far: James Stewart, Joan Crawford, Henry Fonda, Barbara Stanwyck, etc.

Last night I watched a movie by the director of The Magnificent Seven (haven’t seen that one yet, must remedy soon) called Bad Day at Black Rock. It was very good! I highly recommend it if you haven’t seen it. It’s not a Western in the traditional sense, but it does take place in the desert of the West.

I’m heading to the airport shortly for a trip to visit my mother. I’m wearing Encens Mythique d’Orient and I’m taking my usual handful of travel sprays. Those are generally things with awkward bottles or too wildly expensive for me to want to carry the bottle around.

I’m wearing Frapin 1270 this morning. Yesterday I went to a Korean spa and had a scrub. What an experience! The rolls of dead skin were all over me, the table, the floor, and the lady doing the scrubbing. Now my skin is very soft but a bit dry.

SOTD = Chanel Bois des Iles EDT

Lovely, as usual. I need to wear this more often 🤣. Even my howmanysprays8 is not quite putting a dent on the bottle! I really shouldn’t complain though. Also, if I feel like wearing the CP for the rest of the week, I can because Fragrantica tells me I have a good bunch.

In other news, a palate cleanser in case your day(s) could be (a lot) better:

Like ringthing and galbanumgal, we had nasty, nasty storms last night – numerous heavy downpours and more thunder and lightning than I’ve seen in a long time. Lots of flooding in the Chicago area. Adorable😺 spent the evening under the bed. Gloomy remnants today, still humid, but better days coming starting tomorrow.

Needing comfort today, I’m enjoying YR Neonatura Breathe (Soufflé in Europe) with its’ soft sandy, floral notes. I usually only do the cp on Fridays, but I inadvertently did it yesterday with Ivoire and today’s Breathe, both of which have a ylang-ylang note.

Looking forward to our monthly Green Drinks get-together with like-minded folks who care about saving our planet.

    🤗 to all.

sotd = Chanel No. 5 EdP

Couldn’t resist wearing a single spritz of my beloved one and only bottle from Chanel. For me it’s like nothing else. 🌟

I’ve been lurking on NST the past few weeks as my screen time has been limited. One eye surgery turned into two more this summer, but things are much better now. Feeling grateful for modern medicine, though sometimes the cure seems as bad as the disease. 😆

The past few weeks I’ve worn only two scents because my eye medications have made my sense of smell go wonky. Vanille Galante and Roger et Gallet Lavande Royale have been my comforts for sure.

Wearing No. 5 today feels like a happy relief. ☺️ Cheers to any scent twins and house twins out there today.

NSTers, you all smell like a million bucks! 💵

Thank you, tulipani! I had a check in with my eye doctor today and everything looks good.

It did feel nice to see my phone’s weekly screen time report go down so much!

And I’ve been knitting more because I can do it with my eyes closed. 🙂

Wearing Arpege today. My house guests have gone home, and I’m in the mood for something perfumey. I think a lot of the ylang-containing scents come across as perfumey perfumes to me, so that might be my theme for the week. Minor heat wave be damned!

    I’m in Beauty Pie’s Angelique’s Letters.
I’ve been trying to make my way through all my samples over the last few weeks. Either thunking the wearable ones or making a giveaway pile of others that don’t work for me. This week I’ve got about 8 scents from Beauty Pie to make my way through.
Busy at work this week! But I’m already half way through.😁
