Friday scent of the day 8/15

Posted by Robin on 15 August 2025 183 Comments

Happy (Go Green!) Friday and happy National Relaxation Day! Birthdays: Sir Walter Scott, E. Nesbit, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Julia Child, Oscar Peterson, Jimmy Webb. Our community project for today: wear a green fragrance. Thanks go to Dawn for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m still out of town, and still green-free in my usual DIY lotion with sweet orange and ylang oils.

Reminder: on 8/22, wear a fragrance with ylang ylang, if you have one. (This is a repeat, suggested by Kanuka.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Well, Robin, you are ready for the ylang CP!

I am in two Lush body sprays – Dirty and Tramp. I’ve already worn this before (and I guess I have to name it “Dirty Tramp”?? 🤣🫢).

Dirty: spearmint, thyme, tarragon, sandalwood, lavender. Minty and herbal.
Tramp: a potent combination of oakmoss and patchouli. A dark green fragrance! Very forrest-y.

Dirty sounds especially good to me, spearmint is the best mint imho.

Well, I think the names are not meant to be taken seriously. Sometimes endless “noir” and “midnight and Paris” feel kind of hackneyed (although I like romantic names too), so I appreciate the humorous approach.

I have ylang essential oil and an unscented body lotion, so maybe I’ll make something similar next week (no orange though).

The Dirty showergel is excellent for cooling down in summer heat. It’s more potent than the Intergalactic one.

      Snickering about “Dirty Tramp”!

I agree. I tried Intergalactic shower gel, and it did not give me that level of freshness and cool Dirty does.

I’m in Mugler Aura EDT, which I like better than the EDP: it’s fresher and much greener, almost psychedelically green. But I read the description on Fragrantica and I couldn’t identify one of those notes with a gun to my head. Pear, strawberry, rhubarb, jasmine, orris? Really? What I get is a fantasy of a tropical flower swathed in greenery — mint, ivy, leaves, grass, every green thing. It’s gorgeous.

Joining others in Philosykos and Premier Figuier. To my nose, the Philosykos is greener but they are both beautiful creations of the amazing Olivia Giacobetti😊

I’m adding CP points because her talents and natural beauty make with green with envy 💚

I’m in Robin’s patented layering of Philosykos and Tam Dao, with a little twist of my own — three sprays of Philosykos to one spray of Tam Dao. I usually go heavier on the TD for this layering, but I like this ratio so much that I might make it my new standard. Creamy, figgy green with hints of wood — what’s not to like?

I’m wearing Miller Harris Wander. This perfume captures the green verges and undergrowth…the place where your cricket ball ( or baseball?) ends up when you hit it off the pitch / playing field/ garden on a warm afternoon. Damp grass, nettles and a touch of Viola and blackcurrant for sweetness. I got new glasses yesterday ( prescriptive lenses ) but for the first time ever with transitional lenses. As I haven’t been able to wear sun glasses for so long I was kind of intrigued by how dark they became, making everything look as if affected by a solar eclipse. I had wanted a warm ( yellow/ brown or even pink lens) but could only have grey…which is a bit dull, and less fun for the cost ($1300). I can’t even read the top line of the eye chart with one eye, which is a bit grim.

You mean you can’t read the top line of the eye chart without the glasses, right?

But also confused, you mean you had transitional lenses before but these are your first transitional sunglasses, or these are your first transitional? I am assuming transitional is what we call progressive.

I finally broke down and got progressive sunglasses a couple years ago since I could no longer read in my regular prescription sunglasses.

Aha, I checked google and you didn’t mean that at all, transitional are the ones that go dark in the sun so you don’t need separate sunglasses, yes? Apologies and skip my comment! I have never had those.

Sorry, I meant I have always had progressive lenses but this is first progressive/ transitional combo.

Left eye can’t read top line without or with glasses.

Don’t be sorry I just forgot what transitional meant in glasses since I’ve never had them! So my whole comment made no sense.

It would be nice not to have to cart two pairs around but I’ve been buying them separate for years and will probably just go on doing so. And since I alternate which one I will pay for next, my two pair never have the same prescription.

That is a shame they can’t correct enough for you to see the top line with your left eye! My vision is not that poor, but then again macular degeneration runs in my family so we’ll see how much longer I can see at all…

I’m in Matiere Premiere’s Parisian Musc from a sample, which is not a musk at all to my nose but rather a creamy fig. I see a lot of reviews on fragrantica say the same thing so at least I know I’m not losing my mind.
National relaxation day, sign me up! This is the first Friday and weekend I’ve spent at home in 3 weeks and I’ve got nothing on my agenda, which feels good. I love traveling, but I love being home too.☺️
I ran a few errands this morning, one of which was the apple store. I’m getting myself a new macbook before my first grad course starts at the end of the month. The store is always crazy busy, so I don’t know what I was thinking.🙄 I left within 2 minutes, it was way too peopley. I’ll have to order it online for pickup.

Very nice! Green 💚 to my nose. I have the “mini” as I thought that was cute.

Has anyone here shopped with ShopFrance recently? I used to get the breathless emails announcing an upcoming trip but I haven’t in a few years. I wonder if it’s because I complained about the wrong item she sent or what?

We met up with my younger sister and BIL at Cracker Barrel this past Saturday. My sister told us that she was just diagnosed (as in the day before) with rheumatoid arthritis. She’s the youngest of all of us and for her to have an autoimmune disease is concerning. Anyone here have it or know someone who has it? Thoughts?

My father had rheumatoid arthritis. He was diagnosed at 30 and had three knee replacements over time. Of course, treatments were not what they are today, there were no biologics until around 2000.

I know someone with RA. Your course of progression can vary so much that it almost doesn’t help to know someone else with it though. There is a good support group on reddit.

I’m not wearing a green fragrance, though those are some of my favorites. I grabbed Hermès Un Jardin à Cythère this morning. I love it but haven’t worn it for quite a while. For some reason it reminds me of Froot Loops cereal, though I know it’s supposed to be “grasses, olive wood, and pistachio.”

Happy Friday and weekend to all.

I love green scents and wear them a lot in March, April and May. But a favorite green scent I wear in the summer is the long-d/c YR Ode a la Vie, which marries my favorite green note, galbanum, with bamboo. The bamboo gives it a slightly watery green effect, like a lush green tropical rain forest after the rain. So perfect for this hot humid summer we’ve been having this year. I love this one but, unfortunately, have only a few drops left before it’s thunked. I will miss it.

Kids – and lifeguards – go back to school so early these days that our pools are already on a post-season schedule. Mine is only open late mornings for two hours during the week, adults only, no lifeguards, til the end of next week, which doesn’t fit in well with my daily schedule. But we celebrated National Relaxation Day there today and it was wonderful; I will sure miss it soon.

Happy beginning to the weekend to all! It’s gonna be a very hot and humid one for us here. 🥵

Thank you all so much for your sympathy and condolences for Bertie Wooster. His death was quiet and peaceful, I held him and talked to him as the injections were administered.

Green perfumes are not my thing, I think I only have two or three, and none of them with me here on vacation. So I looked through my samples because I thought I had Zoologist Panda, but no, so I am wearing Tiger, because it has vetiver and papyrus that read as “green” to me.

Lightly green in Lolita Lempicka Green Lover. I bought this blind after a review and really enjoy it – light and summery, well blended. It’s hot again; sweated off 5 lbs at my photo shoot this morning (had to pull out strobes for harsh sun shadows which made it harder!). Happy Friday. I’m in original Mugler Angel EdP. It started with two tentative sprays last night, after reading about it on the internet. It’s something I almost never wear. It’s massive. This morning it is still going, so I touched up with one (1) spray and it’s still huge.

It’s not green to me. Most perfume has a color association for me, but I can’t pin down Angel. (Purple? Brown?) I went through years of hating it, and left it untouched in a dark cabinet. It’s fascinating to me now, having changed perfume so dramatically. Perfume with a P.

I hope you are enjoying your scent, the sounds around you, the visions your eyes perceive. I am giving thanks for every little thing—from noses to eyes to lungs and kidneys to the very hearts that beat and propel life. All these are strangely fragile and amazing. Be well.

Ran a few errands I had been putting off today. One of them was a Costco run, where I found Dubai-style chocolate! It’s delicious!! Might have to go back for another bag while it is still around.

Another hot day, but not as intense as the past few have been. Still “enjoying” a late summer heat wave here. Some dark clouds teased rain this afternoon, but nothing came of it.

To me, the Dubai style chocolate I got is the perfect balance between salty (pistachio cream) and sweet (chocolate). Plus the shredded phyllo adds a nice crunch. It’s rich enough that a few nibbles will satisfy me.
