Tuesday scent of the day 8/12

Posted by Robin on 12 August 2025 132 Comments

It's Tuesday, plus World Elephant Day and International Youth Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: elephant points but no green points, in Berdoues Assam of India. Tea at the moment is Upton Meleng Estate Assam mixed with Art of Tea Tali's Masala Chai.

Reminder: 8/15 will be Go Green Friday...wear a green fragrance. (This is a repeat, suggested by Dawn.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows the Alice teapot from Greengate, £23.50 at The Orchid House.

Green (more specifically, green incense) points in Mentha Religiosa.

I am really starting to like mint in perfumes, after after a lifetime of “but why smell of toothpaste?” Noses change, it would seem…

Plus, not all mint smells like toothpaste (and now I suddenly crave mojito).

Piper Negrum from Lorenzo Villoresi has a nice mint note, but it’s not the main player.

L’Eau Chic by Parfums de Nicolaï has a really nice mint note, very subtle.

Haven’t sprayed yet but thinking of Bois d’Hadrien this morning. It does have some green but for me it’s more citrus/woody. My son goes back to school for football camp today; we got a long weekend with him. Even though he hasn’t been at home much since January it’s still a little sad each time he goes.

    Hello.
Green points today in L’Occitane Herbae.
Tested out Dior’s Miss Dior Essence yesterday. It’s a big juicy berry scent. I don’t recall smelling the woody base but I will be visiting Dior to test it again soon.

Out for groceries early this morning because it is going to be grim: already 25ºC and humid by 8 a.m. and it’ll be 35º, humidex 42º (108ºF), in a few hours. I do not deal well with heat! Staying in for the rest of the day and seriously feeling in a big-jasmine mood so I layered Demeter Jasmine on top of Lush Lust, though now I’m not sure the Demeter adds anything: the ferocity of Lust tends to obliterate all in its path. Maybe I’ll pile some Samsara on top of it, see how that goes.

Ha, let Samsara and Lust Lush duke it out. No one will be left standing, maybe not even you.

I tried it and the Samsara didn’t stand a chance. Just a little sandalwood was all that could fight its way through the red onslaught that is Lust. (It’s the reason I love it. It takes no prisoners. It’s a wrecking ball made of jasmine.)

Miissed the CP, waering citrusy Summer Vibe, purchased for the cute blue and white bottle, but the juice is a nice hotweather refresher! I have a PT appoinntment in a while. Who knew my hobby in retirement would be going to doctors appointments! Oh, well, I will come home after that and drink green tea lemonade and sit in air conditioned comfort and read a gardening book. Reading a book about gardening is part of gardening, isn’t it? Tomorrow I don’t have to go out, so I will get up early and garden before it warms up!

Reading about gardening is a major part of gardening. This includes perusing seed catalogue in the depths of winter

Our local library has a seed library , where you can leave seeds for people to take. I collected some hollyhocks and cornflowers last week which I will plant once the ground warms up.

That’s a lovely idea! I’m familiar with small public bookcases where people can leave books they no longer want, but a seed library sounds even better.

My local library has a free seed library also. And, at the end of January, the Chicago Botanic Garden has a free seed exchange where you can donate seeds but you can also get free seeds donated by seed companies. There are lots and lots of free seeds freely given; we get most of our season’s seeds that way

Piling up the green points here — Chanel Eau de Cologne yesterday afternoon, No. 19 edt at bedtime last night, and now in Eau Sauvage. After a shower I will likely switch to Paris-Deauville. Ridiculously hot here today, but supposed to start cooling down tomorrow, for which I am supremely grateful.

I’m wearing Synthetic Jungle for a very hot (for Seattle) day. My office AC has been on the fritz and will hopefully be fixed today. Fortunately, I only have a few in office appointments and can leave in the afternoon if it’s too hot to do the last appointment from my cooler house.

I somehow didn’t make time to answer the weekend poll so I’ll do it here:

    1. What fragrance are you wearing today?

Premier Figuer today, and yesterday was Philosykos. I think I prefer PF, but I only have about half a travel spray of that one. I have one of those limited edition 1 oz green-tinged bottles of Philosykos.

    2. What’s the last (new, or new to you) fragrance you tested, and what did you think of it?

Lush Mossy Bottom, which smells very much like their Grass shower gel. I do like it but struggled with something in the dry down. I’ll try it again before making a final decision.

    3. What’s the next fragrance you’d like to test?

Like others I’m interested in Shalimar L’Essence. But that’s not out until September so the next thing I’ll test is probably a sample I’ve got here. I’ve still got a number of untested samples to get through.

    4. What’s blooming outside in your part of the world?

Like allo said, star jasmine is abundant here in Seattle right now. And there’s a Harlequin Glorybower tree just up the street from me, which is so fragrant and wonderful. We’ve already got lavender still going and pink magnolia trees blooming. And lots of wild blackberries, which I went out and picked a couple weeks ago! And I enjoy sniffing other people’s tomato leaves when I walk by. 😉

    5. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — the most fun thing you did recently, something delicious you ate, your latest binge-worthy TV series, the last good book you read, any fabulous news you recently received — really, anything…

Well, we’re hoping for good news tomorrow at my boyfriend’s check up for his ankle, which he broke at the end of May. Tomorrow they’re supposed to let him progressively start putting weight on it again, which he’s SO ready for.

More freezing weather, another frost and not much joy to be had outside. I noticed that the leaves on the chestnut trees are beginning to open, like tiny umbrellas at this stage. Any sign of green is welcome. I found a sample of Bat that I’d carefully stored away in an ink cartridge tin ( Herbin ink tins are perfect for perfume sample storage, great for travel) so am wearing that. Bat is the name of my son’s dog ( she lives with me) though she prefers duvets to caves.

Going green is a great CP as it can be read several ways. It also aligns with my aesthetic in general, which with perfume means buying partials and decants, swapping, and buying bottles on the resale market. I have rarely used up a full new bottle anyway, and have too many of them sitting on my shelves. So in that spirit and to embrace an actual ‘green’ scent, I’m wearing a very obscure vintage one: Vetyver from Honore Payane in France. It’s an old firm in Grasse that dates back a century. They still make fragrance, mostly for the tourist trade, it seems, or perhaps for the big perfume manufacturers, so this isn’t a raw, burrowing in soil, sear your nostrils vetiver, it’s a polite, nicely balanced one. Does vetiver even grow in France, btw? It’s good and cooling in our 90 degree heat here in L.A. I also have a Santal from the same line which smells like it might have real sandalwood in it. Not sure how old these bottles are, but they pre-date current packaging. Neither of mine is even listed in the Fragrantica database. I love finding old quirky fragrances and exploring them.

I do not know if they grow any Grasse in France, but it is native to India and usually if they attach a location to it in fragrance notes it is Haiti or Indonesia, etc.

I am not much of a green fragrance person, but there is a little green (mint) in the perfume I am sampling today. I am trying Essential Parfums Rose Magnetic. It is a very pretty rose fragrance that reminds me a bit like Delina however, it is quite light and fleeting on me. It doesn’t seem like it has a lot of projection. I will see if the longevity is more than my guesstimate is. Still, it is one I would consider purchasing if I needed another rose, as the price is quite reasonable.

I do not find it to be dark. It is more like a fruity rose to me. We have a new Dillards so I tried Delina there. It is very expensive so I don’t know that I would ever get it, but there are some scents that smell similar that are a lot less expensive. To me, this would be one of them. Others may disagree.

I agree with lillyjo; with a name like Rose Magnetic, I was expecting something dark and goth-y.

Because it is very hot in Luxemburg this week, I will be doing tropical scents, starting with Manoumalia. A strange and haunting beauty.

I noticed a bunch of Lush new sprays have not been reviewed and would be happy to.
Betel is a nice, cool green.

The customers at Lush are usually pretty great. I love them. I hightail it to the perfumes or body spray area when I see someone there, lol.

Everything is ok. That is good at this age.

SOTD = Lush Blue Skies and Fluffy White Clouds Body Spray

Woot! Very nice! Not very long-lasting although I probably need to spray a little bit more!

I just returned from a (very) short getaway to Lancaster, PA, the main purpose of which is to see Noah at the Sight and Sound theater. It’s my second time at the venue but first with my sister and BIL and the (sssssshhh soon to be senior) pup 🐶. The production was really good!

They are set in their ways so I just went along. It was a good itinerary in terms of food places and shopping. Would I want to change it if I go with them next year? Probably, although I am a captive audience so we’ll see if I make it.

As Ever, the newish lifestyle brand from the former royals just dropped a few items, the most notable of which is the Rose wine. To my surprise, one has to purchase in 3, 5 or 7 lots. Since I am curious, I decided to buy the 3-pack. I am still awaiting delivery to a Fed-Ex store. I will report back once I have a chance to drink it.

Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie. It was quite hot for the UK today, meteo said 33C 91 F but in my area of London it said 29, by tomorrow it will already be a few degrees cooler. This morning one of my favorite citrus fragrances AdP Arancia Di Capri, it’s not strong usually but today it lasted until after lunch time and I was quite pleased about that, tonight for the CP Romeo Di Romeo Gigli which I discovered in NYC in the early 90’s, I sprayed from my own vintage bottle from then (I have a bub), it still smells perfect, green, lots of galbanum, herbal and floral with a sweet resinous, woody base and lasts forever. It’s one of the most unique green perfumes I own.

Aurora, you seem to have such good luck with buying vintage. I’ve had some of mine that have gone off. Do you look for anything in particular when buying? I’m currently looking at a mini of Romeo di Romeo. It’s only about half full but it’s a good price.

Glad to share my tip Lillyjo, after getting a very wan EDT of l’Air du temps (I discovered later that the safest bet for l’AdT is the parfum de toilette) I started to ask sellers to tell me if the perfume still smells fresh and strong, I usually ask also more generally is it useable still? This has proved successful and saved me from disappointment and many sellers go above and beyond. I always ask very politely and get an answer 99% of the time.

Hot and humid again today, with heavy storms and flash flood warnings over a widespread area. Luckily, thus far, we’ve just had one brief downpour here and the 🌞 is actually out now. Much of the really bad weather is further south of here, and I’m hoping Mr. Laila stays safe🤞. He and a friend went to Grateful Dead night at the Sox game. This non-Deadhead is very happy to stay home.

Coincidentally, because that’s how they were scheduled, I watched a Viking River Cruise webinar earlier on Mississippi River cruises, then went to a great program at my library on Mississippi River adventures, focusing on driving down the Great River Road to many fascinating places. I’m ready to explore!

Saving green for Friday, my SOTD is YR Noix de Coco, a simple scent of creamy sweet coconut vanilla, reminds me of coconut cake. Haven’t worn this one in awhile and I’m really enjoying it.

    Happy Tuesday! 🥥🌴

Yes, they are finally playing! Didn’t know you were Detroit. I hope to visit your ballpark one day, was hoping to get there this summer but it doesn’t look like we will. You have a great team, they are well on their way to the post-season. Good luck! I’m just enjoying all the young’uns that have come up lately for the Sox game and vastly improved the team.

A lovely late summer afternoon here. Too bad I encountered some road construction in my comings and goings. Lots of the road markings are being re-done in time for all the students returning to school, plus plenty of roads getting re-paved.

SOTD = back in Korres Sikinos again today. Sample thunked! Two more left from Korres in The Sample Stash. Plus 2 news samples from Imaginary Authors.
