Thursday scent of the day 8/7

Posted by Robin on 7 August 2025 90 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Lighthouse Day! Birthdays: Mata Hari, Louis Leakey, Ralph Bunche. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Annick Goutal Mandragore. Even the purple bottle makes me happy.

Reminder: 8/8 is National Happiness Happens Day. Wear what you want, and if you can think of any recent moment of joy or anything that made you happy in the past week, share it with us!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I’m in Carthusia Mediterraneo. It’s not an exuberantly happy scent — it’s happy in a calm, serene way.

    Hello.
Sotd is Atelier des Ors Blue Madeleine. I love gourmands but unfortunately this is a meh for me. It reminds me of sweetened milk tea and maybe a small bite of madeleine but they are all somewhat synthetic and sharp. It does soften up after 15-20 mins. The sillage is arms length at most.

For some reason nothing from this house has resonated with me,and I would love to add at least one of the pretties to my collection!

Follow up to AnnieA and austenfan’s conversation yesterday about Osmanthus fragrances – AnnieA, Have you ever tried Lotusland x Heretic Osmanthus, a collaboration between the gardens in Santa Barbara and Heretic? I’m not an aficionado of Osmanthus but I think it’s beautiful.

Today, Diptyque’s Essences Insensées Rose de Mai (the fragrance and the beautiful black bottle with a bulb atomizer) is making me happy. Our local rose garden also makes me very happy this time of year. And rain today makes me happy because like many of you, we need it!

I don’t care for it. There is some note in it that doesn’t agree with my skin, but lillyjo loves it. I like the original and Gabrielle Essence plus I love the body cream.

My entire perfume collection makes me happy. Yesterday’s selections were Agar Ébène in the morning, followed by Eau Sauvage for a lunchtime meeting, and Agar Ébène again at bedtime. This morning I’m in Omnia Ambra — there is something in it that blends exceptionally well with coffee, but I can’t quite figure out what it is. There’s something that hints of cinnamon, but whatever it is isn’t that strong, and cinnamon isn’t listed among its notes anyway. Maybe the vanilla/amber combo?

Switched from Nuda to Feminite du Bois. I was digging around one of my big tubs of perfume thinking I wanted to wear some Andy Tauer but not today. When I found Feminite du Bois, it was an immediate yes since I haven’t worn it in forever. It was my first Serge Lutens that I bought in the beginning stages of my perfume journey.

Happiness is Shalimar, from my favorite version, the Ode a la vanille flanker- I have the Madagascar one.

I have one of those beautiful Shalimar bottles a friend brought me from an antique store -( it was empty) I sometimes spray some of my Shalimar inside the bottle and dab it- this also brings me happiness and looks beautiful on display.

I’m cleaning my house for a meeting today for my daughter. It’s amazing how much hair gets vacuumed up. I can’t believe the dog and I aren’t bald. Lol.
I want to smell more put together than I am, so I am wearing Libre Platine.

Been really into Profumum Confetto recently. It’s been my nighttime scent for a while, and i think it might be better in the heat? But i am not certain about that yet.
I adore the dry down. And it gets onto my cat’s head – probably when i am petting him – and smells so good for days.

I tend to avoid perfume when I have appointments – too close quarters. But my hairstylist likes perfume, so I try to wear something that she would enjoy. Today it was Chergui. Not really in season but it fits with her aesthetic. Girding for another hot day tomorrow and I have the high school football media day right at midday, so peak sun. But happy to be moving back into photography season.

Started with Eau Sauvage (the original 1960s one) to beat the heat and have extended the cool-me-down vibe with Estee Lauder Tom Ford Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche because just thinking and smelling beachy makes me happy and also it’s not too coconutty, which I like as that note can go haywire on me. My bottle has only dregs but I’ve got a big ole backup for the slam-you-down heat that I know is coming our way later this month & next in Los Angeles.

I’m enjoying my day off so far! It’s horrible weather, but that’s to be expected in winter. We went out for breakfast to a café nearby and we’re back home thawing out. I wore a little Vol de Nuit, and now I’m thinking about Ambre Eccentrico from the Armani Privé line. It’s a hefty thing that can fight back against cold weather 🙂 .

Two non-tropical beach scents today: Oriza Legrand’s Villa Lympia and Profumum Roma’s Acqua di Sale. I find them very similar. Ocean water, a living-fresh-healthy-vegetal note from seaweed, and a just-swam-in-the-ocean musky skin note. The AdS is mellower and rounder — like it is 4pm on the beach and everything is still sun-warmed. The VL is a notch brisker — like 8pm on the same beach and also someone has given me a spring of lavender.

Tea today is a London Fog.

As expected, heat and humidity on the rise today along with the never-ending Air Quality Alert from the Canadian wildfires and ozone. A/C going full blast. Grocery shopping this morning then I’ve been tucked inside doing miscellaneous. No desire to go out.

For my SOTD I took the blackberry note from yesterday’s FIL Summer (my favorite berry note) and added it to magnolia (trying to wear more white florals in August) and enjoyed L’Occitane Magnolia & Mure from a few years ago. I used to have the matching shower gel and body lotion but, unfortunately, they are both long gone.

    Happy almost-weekend to all! 🫐💮

The day has flown by, mostly on the phone. I had to argue with the internet provider after my bill went up 30%, Finnair is still screwing with my flights so I had to talk to them, and my PCP referred me to a specialist whose first available appointment is 2026, in September. I asked about a wait list and was added, but there are 100 people on it ahead of me. Good thing I’m not dying. But today’s perfume was very nice, Fath’s Essentials Tempête d’Automne. There is some spice in it, cinnamon I think, and some flowers and woods. I can’t believe it cost $20.

It’s another hot one here today. I think it might have actually hit 100 after teasing that mark for a few days. Getting a break in the weather over the weekend, though. Temps in the 80’s will feel great after this.

Struck out with yet another hairball remedy for Teflon kitty. She hates every one that I have tried. Any NSTers in CONUS need stuff for their kitties?

SOTD = Demeter Jasmine. It’s perfect for the weather, and that makes me happy. Pyramus gets an Enabler Pin for this one!
