Wednesday scent of the day 8/6

Posted by Robin on 6 August 2025 108 Comments

It's Hump Day and and Root Beer Float Day. Birthdays: Andy Warhol, M. Night Shyamalan, Lucille Ball, Alfred, Lord Tennyson. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Guerlain Terracotta Le Parfum. I am very happy our high temperature today is expected to be 79.

Reminder: 8/8 is National Happiness Happens Day. Wear what you want, and if you can think of any recent moment of joy or anything that made you happy in the past week, share it with us!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I was going to save this for Friday, but Songes is my SOTD. Songes is happiness in a bottle…

This morning I put on a few drops of Risa, a vintage fragrance I picked up with some others at a recent estate sale. It makes me more curious than happy, but I’m enjoying it*.

It says Halston on the back of the bottle/box but when I searched for it online, I found bottles with Giorgio, Coco and Oscar de la Renta on the back. Looks like an early dupe?

    *Perfume mysteries make me happy🥰

I looked up the bottles thinking I would remember Risa but I don’t. Does it smell like Halston?

Yes, sort of. There must have been a company that made dupes of 80’s fragrances but I can’t find much written about it.

I must add that I spitzed some vintage Halston and it smelled much better than the Risa dupe.

Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
I’m happy that after all these years (20? 15?), I still love this scent — and that it’s still in production and hasn’t been ruined by reformulation (as far as I know).
I’m also glad I bought all the ingredients for the dish that has become one of my and my mother’s favorites: lemony tuna and caper pasta.

I’ve just finished my plate of this pasta. 😋

“Easy to wear” is right. It doesn’t thrill me, but it’s lovely, (if not terribly distinctive.) I do prefer it to “1957.”

You smell delightful. I tested Comete and moved on to an FB because of the violet note’s soft and lingering sillage. I’m a big fan of Insolence, but this seems just *that* much more elegant. “Easy to wear” in the best possible way.

Inspired by all the Hermes choices, I’m in a sample of Eau de Citron Noir. I’m undecided. I think it’s a bit too fall for me – I try to enjoy my summers as long and as much as possible. Especially this year where we didn’t experience a spring in our family. I’m going to keep the rest of the sample until October, then circle back.

I also had second thoughts about my “meh” rating on OJ Tanger yesterday. It’s a lovely fragrance, just not for my skin chemistry NfMSC. Meh just sounded too dismissive in retrospect. I want to be respectful of the perfumer’s art and others who like that fragrance.

Always a good idea to retest perfumes you aren’t sure about in different seasons. Some of them are fantastic in the right weather, and not so much at other times. I have a few full bottles of perfume like that…

I am happy today because it’s raining for the first time in two months. The plants and trees needed a good soaking and I woke up to the sound of rain hitting the roof, so more than just drizzle. I put on Onda Voile d’Extrait this morning. Thinking of Deva, this is her favorite perfume.

I”m now on vacation visiting my family up in Michigan where it’s 80 and humid but this morning is pretty and I was able to enjoy having the windows open in my bedroom last night with some fresh air blowing in! We did have the wildfire haze yesterday but today seems better. I was able to enjoy fresh garden sweetcorn and some local peaches last night, so delicious! My SOTD is Pichola, something I see Robin wrote a rave review about one time. I brought some things along because I happen to have them in small bottles, and this is one of them.

Sampling Dusita Tonka Latte today…getting lots of almond and honey in the opening…notes are below.

Still wondering about rumored Shalimar l’Essence and the latest I found from googling is below. No affiliation or knowledge about the poster but a release date of August 25th is mentioned and some interesting comments from someone who has purportedly sniffed it. I love the word purportedly…don’t get to use too often sadly. 😆

And I have not given up hope for a new Millésime for this fall either…and neither should you! 🤞🏻😁

The little summer bat, Ozzy, was nowhere in sight this morning. Guess it moved on. It felt less hot today despite the temperature getting up into the upper 90’s again. Part of that might be the obscured visibility due to wildfire smoke. I was running my air purifier until around lunchtime.

I’m happy to hear that a favorite Denver-area restaurant is building an outpost in my prowl territory that should be open at the end of August. The Cherry Cricket has burgers that I dreamed about while in NJ. Hopefully they are as good as I remember.

SOTD = commando. Wasn’t feeling up to perfume hijinks. But I am wearing Pacifica’s Tuscan Blood Orange body butter on my shins. Too bad that one got discontinued.

I’m working tonight, so here’s a work story.
I rang up a young man ( I’m guessing 18-20) he was buying back to school clothes. The cart was piled to the top. It was 4 giant bags and 2 normal bags. 42 items. The total was $642.00. I told him the total. He rounded up for the charity we are collecting for, and swiped his card. I gave him the receipt and as he was walking away, turned back and said ” this was $642.00?! No way. I thought it would be two something. I can’t buy all this ” as he was picking through the bags deciding what to return I got relieved for a lunch break. Thank goodness because I was about to lose it. Lol.
Anyway, my Dame Strawberry Fool came today so that is my sotd. I wish it had a bit more Strawberry. I get a lot of clean musk with a hint of strawberry. I still enjoy it though.

Sounds like Strawberry Fool went with your customer story! Or at least part of the name did.

I am glad you liked Strawberry Fool. It didn’t work for me. I am guessing it was the LOTV I was smelling. I sent out a sample of something else yesterday and added this to the package so we will see if that person likes it.

I didn’t get a chance to test the body cream. Maybe I will get more Strawberry with layering.

Mine arrived today, just put on 1 spritz over a dab of the cream about an hour ago. I like it. Just a hint of strawberry and, yes, some musk and soft muted florals. Not getting the strong LOTV note like Kris. A little seems to go a long way, with just a tiny bit on the top of my hand, I can smell it easily as I move about without putting my nose to my hand.

Ok, that’s atrocious in every way, yet I can picture my adult son doing that.

Good thing he is so young, it provides an excuse for his behaviour.

My SIL bought me a discovery set from Fulton & Roark (had never heard of them, apparently they run a lot of ads on Instagram?). Tried Thousand Palms today – green pepper, pettigrain, tuberose, patchouli. A little weird and interesting. The bottle price is above my usual threshold, but they have solid perfume and oil on offer as well. I have 15 to try, so it should be fun.

I’m glad it was interesting. It does not sound appealing but you never know until you smell…

Getting hotter and more humid each day with the Air Quality Alert constantly being extended each day. Will definitely have to turn on the a/c tomorrow.

A nice yoga class at the library today and starting to get things together for a weekend away. SOTD was philosophy Falling in Love Summer, a fresher, lighter version of the original with the same blackberry note I enjoy. Relaxing with the ballgame but am already starting to drift off 🥱😴💤

    Nighty-night! 🛌
