It's Tuesday, National Oyster Day and Neil Armstrong's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am having a lovely cup of Mu Dan black tea from Upton, and enjoying having the windows open (it's unusual for it to be cool enough for fresh air at this time of the year). In other good news, I'm wearing Ormonde Jayne Champaca.
Reminder: 8/8 is National Happiness Happens Day. Wear what you want, and if you can think of any recent moment of joy or anything that made you happy in the past week, share it with us!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows the Bernardaud Trianon Teapot, $580 at Bloomingdales. (This is a large 12 cup teapot, and it is also made in a smaller size.)
Good morning fragrant friends.
Just back from summer holiday in Muskoka Canada
Drinking Matin Parisian from Mariage Freres
Reading a lot of Romantasy books these days for easy summer reading…(with some spice)
Thumbing through the paper and listening to BBC world news..
I read that Dior is opening its first spa in NYC…
Happiness Day-I will thinking some of my big white florals always make me happy. Starting off with Lili Bermuda Frangipani. Who couldn’t think about Bermuda and not be happy?! lol
Changed my mind to Tenue de Soirée, wearing a Annick Goutal fragrance always makes me happy.
I’m wearing Dandelion Fig by Shay & Blue, not for the first time, but I haven’t worn it often. This is from a bag of un-used decants I found in my decant box. I may try to wear one them each day this week.
Good plan! I keep swearing I will try harder to use up decants.
Happy Tuesday, all!
This morning, without much thought, I chose Un Jardin Après La Mousson from Hermès. I slept poorly, and woke up very early – around 4:30am – and I suppose I didn’t want something too bold and structured. At that wee small hour, I gravitated towards a pretty “watercolor” scent to ease me into the day, and Après La Mousson fit the bill.
I slept poorly too..passing you a cuppa
Hope you both get great sleep tonight!
Après la Mousson is lovely and interesting, you smell great. My bottle lives in Provence where it’s wet fruity spiciness works great.
Just delivered a very long and rather difficult task. Phew.
I’m wearing Creed Sublime Vanille – an airy, comforting vanilla with bright citruses.
Well, I’m off to wash my hair – might change into something else afterward.
Post shower change – Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate. A very happy fragrance.
I haven’t tried many Creed fragrances but yesterday I sampled Silk, it lasted for hours on my arm…
Do you mean Queen of Silk? Do you like it?
Sorry, you are correct , Queen of Silk. In a purple bottle and yes I loved it. The dry down was amazing
Nice! Good to know.
Which is your favorite ?
Currently, I only have Sublime Vanille. But I also like Virgin Island Water. There are a lot of Creed perfumes I have not tried, though.
Congratulations on finishing that task!
Thank you!
In Bond No.9 Fire Island for a beachy feeling on this warm, muggy day. Cloudy, hazy skies and poor air quality due to the wildfires in Canada.
Yesterday was my mother’s second anniversary of her passing. It was a tough day. We went to church early in the morning to attend a mass in her name, then to the cemetery, and later we had lunch at my mom’s favorite Thai restaurant. It was peaceful and full of great memories that we share with smiles and love in our hearts. I wore Tabu, her signature scent to honor her.
Drinking now my second cup of coffee with a dash of ginger and 3 pão de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread).
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
This type of anniversary is always hard. But a lovely way to honor your mother. Hugs to you!
Thank you, Sapphire. 🌻
I hope your day goes well today, and you can take things quietly.
Thank you, Kanuka. I am having quiet day of comfort and reflexion at home today. It will be peaceful.
That was a lovely way to remember her, sending hugs.
Thank you, Aurora. 🌻
I hope the Tabu and warm memories comforted your heart.
They did. Thank you, Laila.🌻
Sending you a hug, pl67. Your Sunday seemed like the most lovely way to celebrate the memory of your mother.
Thank you, Tulipani. 🌻
Hugs for you today perfumelover67
Thank you, Barqs. 🌷
Sending you hugs and strength, PL67! Anniversaries are very tough.
Thank you, She-ra.🌷
Adding a few more hugs. Anniversary days are especially difficult but hopefully being surrounded with family and adding in a few nice memories made the day a bit easier.
Thank you, Gail. It was very comforting that we could all meet once again this year. It definitely makes things easier.
Nice and lovely way to honor your mom!
Thanks Hajusuuri.🌷
Hugs, perfumelover67. It’s incredible how quickly the time passes, isn’t it?
Thank you, Jalapeno. It seems like only months have passed since she passed. Time flies!
More hugs coming your way!
Thank you, Kris. 🌻
That teapot is gorgeous! And a really nice size. I seem to have expensive, aspirational taste in teapots. Tea of the day was whatever my husband brewed, but it tasted good and did the job. No SOTD yet. About to go swimming and then will choose.
I love the teapot, but for me 12 cups is way too big.
I have aspirational taste in teapot pictures, but my actual teapots are cheap 🙂
LOL!
Wearing Olympic Orchids Carosello because it happily reminds me of summers spent with my beloved grandmother💕
That’s sweet allo!
Hello.
Sotd is Dior Bois Talisman. Incense, sandalwood and lightly sugared vanilla, comforting and oh so beautiful.
Just popped open a new bottle of Sonic Death Monkey in the shower. Gosh, it’s been almost 2 decades since my last bottle? Happy to have it again and love the nostalgia.
I anticipate feeling that way about Happy Hippy some day 🙂
What is Sonic Death Monkey like?
Espresso and chocolate! 😀
Thank you!
I’m wearing a sample given to me by Gaynor of Dusita’s Cavatina. This is a spring flower type perfume with a blend of orange blossom ( not listed on fragrantica) and bergamot and , notably, lily of the valley. Nicely blended and pretty delicious: a kind of Small White Floral. Very tempting and a nice way to start the day when there’s a heavy frost and below freezing temperatures.
‘small white floral”! Sounds summery and tempting!
Stay warm
Overslept — not really important but meant that Mr. G had to make his own coffee — and am in Caleche edt layered with Le Dix dusting powder for a nice, soft glow. Hoping for a nice, soft day to match.
That sounds like a pretty combo SheriG!
It is, one of my favorites for sure. 💕
Tell me more about Caleche
Calèche on me is a powdery woody floral. It’s an old-school, near kitchen-sink type — Fragrantica lists notes of: Aldehydes, Cypress, Bergamot, Neroli, Orange Blossom, Lemon and Mandarin Orange; middle notes are Iris, Ylang-Ylang, Rose, Jasmine, Gardenia and Lily-of-the-Valley; base notes are Oakmoss, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Musk, Cedar, Amber and Tonka Bean. I’m not good at identifying aldehydes, but I can suss out most of the other listed notes. For a fragrance with so much going on, it’s very soothing.
Calèche is my favorite aldehydic fragrance. As the French would say, “Classique de classique!”
I meant to add that Calèche always makes me think of AnnE who is the resident NST Calèche expert.
I bet you smell beautiful, it’s been too long since I’ve worn it.
Isn’t Caleche the fragrance that was advertised as smelling different or unique on everyone? I remember I used to have it. Or am I thinking of another scent?
I don’t think that was Caleche, but it’s ringing some dim bell in the back of my mind and I think it did start with C!
SOTD is FM Lipstick Rose. This is a cold weather scent, but I felt like wearing it anyway. I am definitely smelling the powder. It is nice though.
That one is a powder bomb! Beautiful, but sometimes too much for me.
It can be. I don’t wear it often.
On my way to work and put on Clinique Happy. I hope my shorter shift goes smoothly.
Hope work went well today!
Coolish day here, air quality not so good due to Canadian fire smoke slowing down our way. i am wearing Tam Dao, a soothing but activating scent for me, since I had to go get another eye injection, not my favorite thing. it went better than sometimes, but i still going to sit down and listen to my current book on tape, “The Notebook: a History of Thinking on Paper” by Roland Allen. This is a highly entertaining, to my geeky history buff self, story of how people started writing things down in notebook equivalents and how this helped various disciplines, book-keeping, art, engineering, and historical record keeping develop. Right now I am learning a lot about Leonard da Vinci and his famous notebooks. Educational and inspiring, i went a got a nice blank mixed media sketchbook to use as daily journal, something I used to do a lot, but fell out of the habit of. Helps with everything, but grammar, apparently. Have a happy day, one and all…
Ouch x1000!
Or at least major discomfort. Enjoy your relaxation.
Ooh that book sounds very interesting, thanks for sharing!
Yeek! One of my friends has to have eye injections too. I get skeeved out every time she mentions them.
I went to the Fumerie swap on Sunday evening, Angela Sanders was there and it was good to see her. The swaps have become less of a free-for-all than they used to be because the number of participants is limited as is the number of bottles to swap: A maximum of five. I brought Prada Infusion d’Iris, TF Ombre Leather, Nicolai Balle de Match, 4160 Tuesdays Tyger, Tyger, and PG Suede Osmanthus. I snagged Angela’s bottle of Faberge Tigress cologne, plus Nicolai Eau de Yuzu, Hermes Voyage d’Hermes, Kyse Vanille Debauche, and Ineke Poet’s Jasmine. Everyone there was at least two decades younger than I am but I was excited to see that interest in the classics is not dead because an old bottle of Miss Dior went very quickly. I wore the Yuzu yesterday but today I am back from a medical appointment and wearing Cologne pour le Soir.
How does one get invited to this?
Sign up for email notifications and then read their emails! Would you consider coming to Portland for a swap?
Wow, Tigress! Now that’s a blast from the past, I used to love that one years ago. 🐯
Sounds like you had a great time!
What fun!
I remember being in Portland for the weekend and visiting Fumerie, only to find out that the Swapmeet was scheduled for the next day. I almost extended my trip.
Another easy CP! Just thinking about perfume makes happiness happen 🙂 .
I’m wearing Omnia today, the original. I had a bottle when it was first released, and picked up another recently for nostalgia reasons. It’s a lovely soft spice and I still like it as much as I did years ago.
Very true, Gaynor 🌹
I love Omnia
I bought the crystaline (old version) and glad I did, the new version I do not like at all
I love this one too, in early fall when the weather – and trees – begin to say ‘autumn.’
Fresh strawberries and yogurt smoothie. I usually eat my strawberries whole but the smoothie is delicious.
Eau de Rochas this morning, almost finished bottle, and tonight I Profumi di Firenze Hayan, a vanilla and patchouli scent and very good.
You and my brother are quite the strawberry fans!
I’m in good company😀
In a sample of January Scent Project’s Dinudist today. It is like a mentholated, somewhat bracing version of Lolita Lempicka, with a heavy dash of celery seed added to it.
Tea today is Twinning’s Gingerbread because that’s what I have at the office. I am dragging and may need something more powerful before my last meeting of the day starts.
Two recent cheap thrills that I want to recommend: First, the trader joe’s bath bomb, which has pretty peony scent and turns the bathwater a delicate ballerina pink (i.e., it is not going to stain my tub a bright color). The Second is the Mrs. Meyers Violet hand soap – it is more complex than just violet and IMHO is punching above its weight class.
I have to check out the hand soap!
Hmmmmmmm. Time to see if the local grocery stores here have Mrs. Meyers. I know Target does…
SOTD = Kilian Angels’ Share
I did the 🐇🐇🐇 thing when we were supposed to so good luck to me this month!
Angels’ Share is lovely and yes, I should wear it more often.
In other news, not that I am trying to lessen my reliance on doom scrolling…here are some tips from a NY Times gift article that you may find useful, just in case:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/08/04/well/phone-screen-time-scrolling.html?unlocked_article_code=1.b08.M18D.3oVgYiKAFEMF&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
I thought of you when I saw that Angels’ Share has a new flanker.
I’m also curious to get your take on the new AS flanker. The original is so good.
Osmanthe Yunnan, as I found an old sample of it looking for something else entirely.
A pretty scent, and osmanthus is such a happy smell.
You smell great !
It is such a happy scent, just lovely!
Glad to see you have windows open, Robin! After several beautiful days that the weatherman said were the longest in a row we’ve had w/o high heat and humidity n 2 months!, both are on the rise and ours will be closed again probably starting tomorrow. 🙄
In August I try to wear some white floral scents, my least favorite fragrance genre. Today I’m wearing a tropical vanilla with jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia white floral notes, La Maison de La Vanille ‘Vanille Des Tropiques.’ It’s a soft, puffy slightly powdery vanilla and I don’t really smell the tuberose note at all (my least favorite note). Very enjoyable👍.
Looking forward to a pleasant evening at our National Night Out. 🏞️Happy Tuesday to all!
Oooh, you smell really good!
I did not have them open for long, but any fresh air in August is welcome 🙂
I am wearing Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere today.
Just got back from a trip to Paris, Avignon and London. It was so enjoyable, but always good to be back home.
My fragrance souvenirs are Caron Bellodgia & Narcisse Noir from Paris. And, Jo Loves Green Orange & Coriander and Orange Butterflies from London.
Loving how these scents are bringing back some great memories 🙂
Was it your first time visiting Avignon? Did you like it?
It happens to be one of my favourite cities in France.
To say I envy you your trip would be a vast understatement, 💚
Smelling sophisticated!
Glad you had such a nice trip and that you brought back home some fragrant souvenirs 💕
Welcome back! You bought some amazing scented souvenirs!
So glad to hear that you had such a wonderful trip and returned with beautiful scented souvenirs.
Thanks 🙂
Love the memories that scent brings back!
Yes, first time in Avignon. Loved our time there.
I am Kris’ favorite Shalimar MI: Mission Impossible today. 🙂 I love this one too and haven’t worn it in a while. It’s sweeter than I remember but I can handle sweet. 😉
It’s only Tuesday and I am having a tough work week…lots of stuff due in the next week and just found out my co-worker, who has had some significant health issues in the past year, has been hospitalized and probably won’t return to work. 🙁 I also had some family drama in the last few weeks. 🙁 To invoke a memorable commercial from the late 80s…Calgon, take me away! 🛀🏻 😉
That’s a lot to deal with all at once! Sending calming thoughts your way 💛
Thank you, NinaV. ❤️
Uff da! What a week. Hope something extra nice comes your way soon.
Thank you, Jalapeno! Exciting that your bat friend has returned. I see bats in San Diego at dusk when I am out walking dipping and diving for insects. They only come out at a very specific time and I assume they go home to rest afterwards when it gets dark but maybe they are out and I just can’t see them. eahheh 🙈
I was just thinking about Shalimar MI the other day. I have not worn it since we turned to warmer weather. I am wondering when I go back to it this Fall if I will still like it. Also, wondering if there will be another one added in September. Last year was jasmine and I have not worn that one recently either.
“Calgon take me away.” I have not heard that in eons.
I really enjoyed wearing it yesterday…definitely sweeter than the jasmine which I have worn more recently.
Wishing you a better middle and end of the week.
Thank you, lillyjo! 🤗
Thanks for all the messages of support and encouragement this weekend, about my work situation. It really meant a lot to me to read through them, I love this community so much!
I’m wearing Heure Exquise today, a freebie from a most generous NSTer, feels very appropriate for CP this week.
Tulipani, I am quite behind in my reading/commenting. So sorry for you being part of the downsizing and here’s hoping you are able to get another job shortly.
I am so sorry you have to go through this situation, Tulipani. I hope everything goes well for you.
That really stinks, tulipani. I’m sorry it happened.
Very sorry to hear about the downsizing too. Sending you hugs and strength, tulipani. 🤗
I’m in Bronze Goddess. Plus I finally thunked the matching body creme today; I believe it’s the 2nd jar finished.
You smell great.
Thank you Nina. It’s a staple for me in summer.
Yay for the body creme thunk!
Yes! For some reason I can get through this no problem. Other creams and lotions take forever.
Do they still sell the body creme?
I had to look into it; sadly it seems to be discontinued.
That’s a shame. I always thought it sold well.
That’s what I found too.
Today I was sampling MFK L’Eau à la Rose on one arm and Essential Parfums Rose Magnétique on the other. I had decants of both and loved them, and now I’m contemplating a full bottle—because one can never have too many rose perfumes (happiness: ding ding ding!). Both are straightforward rose scents: L’Eau à la Rose is fresher and more joyful, Rose Magnétique is softer, maybe more “adult”. The price difference is considerable, which might help me decide.
Off to bed in Love, Chloé.
I just ordered a sample of Rose Magnetique the other day so I am glad to hear about that one.
Oh, I love Love, Chloe. You smell fabulous.
Hey, NST! My little summer bat is back! The last time it showed up was during a multi-day heat wave. Wonder if it knows something that I don’t? Today high temperature was right around 100. Also had a faint smell of smoke in the air this morning before the wind shifted. 🦇
SOTD = back in Korres Avgoustous. Thunked the sample, which was one of those weird “ketchup packet” ones.
I’m glad your bat is back! That made me very happy to hear.
I hope nobody bothers it!
A bat outside of your apartment? Just hanging out?
Yep. It’s in the furthest corner of the breezeway from all the front doors. That bat doesn’t really want much to do with humans.
I don’t remember hearing about a bat before, very cool! Or should I say, very hot! Yikes! 100! Hope you cool off soon. 🥵. We’re headed to the mid-90’s for 5 days soon.
Last year, the little bat showed up in July during a very hot spell that lasted several days.
It’s supposed to be around 100 here until Saturday. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Maybe your 🦇 is trying to catch some breeze in the breezeway to beat the heat.
I find those ketchup packet samples so annoying to use. Too much for a single test, but impossible to store for a second date if it earns one.
The breezeway is only open on one side, so those back corners are dim during the day. I figure that bat is finding some kind of shelter there.
Only 3 more of the ketchup packet samples left! 😂
BTW, how is your clowder?
They are good! The dynamics were off for a bit because we have been fostering a stray cat for several months. We keep him in a guest room away from the triplets (he is FIV+), and before we got him fixed the pheromones had the triplets all ramped up, like “we can smell another cat but can’t find him.” It has settled down since his surgery. He had also gotten a lot friendlier.
How is your crew?
It’s just me and Teflon kitty now. She’s an active and healthy 13.5 year old. Finally got rid of an extremely persistent ear infection she had earlier this summer.
I had to say goodbye to sweet little Spooky kitty in August 2023, when she crossed The Rainbow Bridge. She’d been really sick for several months beforehand.
I’m glad Teflon kitty’s recurring ear infection is finally gone.
I don’t know why but for some reason I thought you had adopted another fuzzy baby after getting to Colorado. I’m sorry — I didn’t mean to bring up Spooky kitty. I hope when you think of her the sting of loss has lessened some and memories of love and joy have encroached into that space.
A bat! Adorable💙
Glad I got a picture of it on my phone before it moved on. Hopefully it’s eating a lot of mosquitoes somewhere safe.
Wound up going with Givenchy Organza Indecence. It felt like a go-big-or-go-home kind of evening.
Smelling great!
I ❤️ this one!
Super late. My sotd is La Panthere edp, from the purse stash.
Yay for the purse stash, aka Emergency Backup Perfume!
Did you get the Dame freebie?
Happy Tuesday! Sotd sample OJ Tanger from a kind NSTer. Will not finish sample.
Didn’t like it?
How do we spell mewh w a shoulder shrug on NST?
Meh
Merci beaucoup!
