Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Happy Friday, and welcome to August, aka Peach Month and National Sandwich Month. Birthdays today: Herman Melville, Yves Saint Laurent, Jerry Garcia. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan. That ought to do the trick even though I forgot my rabbits this morning, again.
Reminder: there will be a community project next Friday, and I will announce it by Monday.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is detail from the StoryTiles Small Tile in Miffy's Journey ("I am going to see and experience beautiful things! Will you travel with me?"). The 4" x 4" tile is $40 at Beautyhabit.
Vintage Hermés Rocabar always feels peaceful to me: all sorts of woods and resins, like you’re in the middle of a forest, and then a surprise hug of vanilla at the end. More things should smell this good.
Nice!
Nice description there, pyramus.
Gorgeous! 💚 I would walk 10,000 miles through that forest. You smell amazing. 🥰
I forgot my rabbits this morning and mom has gone back to the hospital this morning.
Will be wearing Jicky after my shower. It is CP complaint and it is soothing to me.
So sorry about your mom, Dawn. I’m glad Jicky is soothing, that’s important.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom and I hope Jicky along with other soothing moments help to comfort you today.
So sorry about your mom…
Hope Jicky will keep you wrapped in comfort all day Dawn, and hope your mom will improve.
I am keeping your mother in my thoughts, Dawn. Take care of yourself.
So sorry about your mum. Sending good thoughts 🙏
I’m sorry about your mom, Dawn.
Sending you a big hug Dawn and prayers for your mother! 🤗
Sorry to hear, hoping for her to get better soon
So sorry to hear about your mom. Healing thoughts coming your way,
Sending you hugs, strength and good wishes for your mom, Dawn.
Sorry to hear about your mom, sending hugs to you both for comfort and strength. 🤗 🤗
This back and forth must be trying for her and you.
I hope everything goes well for your mother.
So sorry to hear about you mom — hope the hospital stay is short.
I’m very sorry Dawn. I hope she can get the care she needs.
Oh no. So sorry to hear this, Dawn. It must be very stressful for both of you.
Happy Friday! I got my rabbits in during the night 🐰
My day off, I love Fridays. I chose Parfums de Nicolai New York for today. It’s one of my favorite “cooler days in August” scents and it brings me happiness when I wear it.
Temps were in the 50s overnight and it is blissfully cool this morning. Have a great day! 🌻
I am so excited to have my windows open! Fresh air!
Enjoy your day off.
Nothing better than open windows after weeks of air conditioning!
You smell wonderful. It has always surprised me how little Nicolaï’s New York is mentioned online, as it’s such a stunning scent.
It is a stunner and imho, definitely not just for men.
Agree!
It is! And I wear it, not my spouse, so definitely not just for men. 🙂
I’m wearing Mugler Cologne today, because I was going through my decants and found it. Nice enough.
Sorry if it isn’t a favorite!
I am wearing Dom Rosa – a joyful champagne scent to bring happiness this August.
The fragrance is said to be inspired by Dom Pérignon champagne, which also ties it to the mystery and crime CP – Dom Pérignon plays a role as a clue in Too Many Clients by Rex Stout.
I need to reread all the Nero Wolfe! I do not remember details like that.
I hope you have a good August, and life is not as stressful.
More wishes for a good month in Ukraine.
Remembered my rabbits, for once. I could use the luck, headed into a busy month.
SOTD will likely be CBIHP Room with a View after my shower, for peace and comfort. Just have to get through a few more hours of work today, and then it’s a long weekend after a very long week.
I’m glad your long weekend is almost here.
Hope the weekend is restorative…
Hope you have a relaxing weekend!
C’mon weekend!
I reached for IA Fox in the Flowerbed because that little fox is sure to hop over any difficulties and bring me good luck today🦊
And Miffy on a journey (above) is too adorable for words!
P.S. I just received an email that AI O! Unknown is being discontinued. I have a BUB I’ll never finish but it’s still sad.
I saw that too! Shame.
I was coming back to post that, I know it’s a favorite for some here.
Yeah, they announced that a bit back and I got the reminder this morning. I have a BUB, well, a BU travel size, which I think will do.
You smell wonderful! Great jasmine scent.
How does Mr. Allo feel about Fox in the Flowerbed?
Good question! He probably wouldn’t like it if I asked him to smell it on my wrist but I can wear it under the radar, unlike, let’s say Jasmin de Pays or A La Nuit😎
I’m in Dryad, hoping that if I wear forest-y scents it will encourage my little backyard forest to flourish through the current trauma of a retaining wall being rebuilt in that area — lots of yanking out of rampant ivy and blackberry vines, not to mention the very diseased-looking railroad ties that constituted the old wall. The new wall will be more damp-resistant.
And a PSA: looks like O, Unknown might be getting the axe at Imaginary Authors, so if you have (like me) been waffling over acquiring some of that, it’s now or never.
Glad you got rid of those nasty old railroad ties in your yard!
House twins with Robin today, but I went with Eau des Merveilles ✨
It definitely brings me happiness — let’s hope it brings peace and good luck too!
Happy August! 🍑
It is a fail-safe scent,
I almost went with that. Always a good one for happiness.
Agree 💯%
Wearing Lorenzo Villoreso Spezie which I picked up at the Rome flea market two years ago and was a lucky $10 find that made me happy. And who isn’t happy when in Rome? It always reminds me of my trip to visit my friend who lives there when I wear it. It was especially lucky for me because I was recovering from Covid at the time and had no sense of smell so it was a really blind buy, not to mention the fact that I didn’t know if it was real, counterfeit, etc. But once I got my nose back, I realized it was just fine.
A lucky buy!
Hello and tgif!
I finally remembered my rabbits and I repeated enough to share many times so claim them if you wish!
Sotd is V&F Bonbon. It’s CP fitting because what better luck than having everything “bon” (good) doubled?
Oops! Delete this pls Robin. Thx.
I am wearing the always-exuberant ELO Bendelirious.
Oops, didn’t mean to post here. Will copy and repost. Btw, is this named for Bendel’s in Manhattan?
Yes…it came out while they were still in business, limited edition.
I remembered my rabbits and have some to share if you need them! My SOTD is Le Snob No. 1, because it’s beautiful and fun. Just like me, right?!
I always think of JB when someone mentions your SOTD.
I do too😃
It will always be a love-love for me!!🌹🤗
🤗❣️🌹
Hello and tgif!
I finally remembered my rabbits and I repeated enough to share many times so claim them if you wish!
Sotd is V&F Bonbon. It’s CP fitting because what better luck than having everything “bon” (good) doubled?
I will claim a set since I forgot!
And ha, that’s perfect. Hope the month will be double good.
Someday I’ll remember my rabbits. Today I’m wearing Lolita Lempicka Fleur de Corail. I’m not sure it meets the CP requirements but the bottle caught my eye. Summery both in bottle and scent. We are heading to Cleveland for an early birthday dinner (mine is Monday) with our son. Grabbing these moments while we can, he is a senior in college now so who knows where he will be next summer?
I hope you have a wonderful birthday weekend with your son. And happy birthday for Monday!
Happy early birthday and enjoy those precious moments with your son; they grow up way too fast. My only grandkids, twins, are headed off to start college soon and I miss them already. 😢
Happy Early Birthday! We always enjoyed going to OH from Pgh, PA! Have fun!
Happy early Birthday!
Enjoy your weekend and early birthday celebrations!
I am wearing L’Artisan Bana Banana today. Perfumes that don’t take themselves too seriously make me happy, plus Bana Banana was a Paris purchase when I was there, so double happiness.
Yay for double happiness!
Happy Friday and August First!
I said my rabbits 3x woohoo! So I have 2 extras for anyone who needs to call dibs.
Back to Mimosa Adoration & Reverie week in my now beloved combo named Chers Amis au Coeur du Jardin (Dear Friends in the Heart of the Garden) Prada Infusion de Mimosa + FM Iris Poudre from two generous NSTers. Will extend to 30 min outside enjoying our full-bloom mimosa tree and try to sketch it today.
Wishing all a joyful and lucky month of August, especially you Leo’s!
For once I remembered my rabbits! I hope we all have good luck this month. Are you a Leo?
No, I’m an Aries, but get along great w Leo’s! My Bestie since high school is a Leo.
Happy Friday back atcha LesLiesse!
Happy Friday to you too jalapeño!
I was in a hurry running out for an appointment this morning but as it happens, I have with me a sample of something that always cheers me up: Heeley’s Oranges and Lemons Say the Bells of St Clements. This is basically an old fashioned cologne and the initial burst of citrus lasts maybe five minutes, tops, but it makes me very happy. The dry down is plain but very nice vetiver.
Orange and lemon in perfume always lifts my spirits.
Depending on the appointment, a short lived perfume might be just the thing.
I knew “our Nijntje” was an international phenomenon but I never knew he was called Miffy in English. Gorgeous picture, whatever the name.
After a couple of comfort scents I chose a different angle for the CP today, the rabbits are a good luck charm for the new month so bring hope for a new beginning.
Which made me reflect on perfume and new beginnings which led me to spring. That reminded me of the beautiful spring scents in my collection. I picked Début as the most fitting.
That’s funny. I’ve always thought of Miffy as a ‘she’ not a ‘he’ as I guess Miffy is a woman’s name ( probably shortened from names like Myfanway?). And I’ve always thought ‘she’ was wearing a red dress. Have to admit that I can’t remember the books as I ‘ read’ them way back.
Now you mention it, I am not sure what gender Nijntje is.
Nijntje is short for konijntje which means little rabbit. “tje” in Dutch has the same function as “-chen” or “-lein” in German.
I read the books when I was little.
I thought Miffy was a girl, and to be honest I thought Miffy was probably from Japan, maybe even a Sanrio character. Ha. Apologies all around.
Remembered my rabbits today and have an extra set if someone needs one.
SOTD is BBW Rose body wash and lotion with Dame Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood.
I haven’t heard from any of you that got the freebie from Dame for his 4th of July giveaway. I know mine isn’t going to be at my house until Monday. Am anxious to try the Strawberry Fool. Some strawberry scents I really like and others not so much. I am curious which category this one will be in😉
I’m waiting, too, and was wondering where it was because everything I’ve ordered from him arrives in a short time, but then I finally got notification it was on its way. Mine’s due on Monday as well.
I am guessing they had to send out so many with the giveaway and that’s why it is taking longer.
My order is coming Monday.
Strawberry Fool is one that had to grow on me. It might be because after my first testing, I let it sit for awhile.
So did you buy a full bottle?
I did not. I purchased my original sample and thunked it ( it took awhile) now I will see how the freebie sample goes. I’m looking forward to trying the body cream.
I was wondering if anybody had received their freebie from Dame Perfumery yet.
Looks like we are all getting them on Monday.
Wearing L’Or de Louis today and notes are below…I really love this one! I have lots of orange blossom and jasmine forward scents but this one has captured my heart…something sweet, persistent and a bit animalic as it wears. ..great stuff.
In other news, I have been sampling the Dries Van Noten line over the past couple weeks and am not terribly impressed thus far.😬 I think Soie Malaquais is the most interesting off the original 10(!) releases I have tried so far. The more recent releases (Sur Ma Peau, Camomille Satin and Vanille Camouflage) are more interesting and done better than the original 10 w/ my preliminary sniffing and will revisit these. Overall my sniffing w/ this line has been underwhelming. Maybe my expectations were influenced by the beautiful bottles and exclusivity.
TOP NOTES
Orange blossom absolute
Pomegranate
Bergamot
French Jasmine absolute
HEART NOTES
Honey
Florentine orris
Musk
Cedar wood
BASE NOTES
Firewood smoke
Cade wood
Oislet de Chypre (a resinous accord dating from the 17th century)
L’Or de Louis is lovely, I agree wholeheartedly!
RIP Dries Van Noten par Frederic Malle
I was going to say that *that* one is my fave Dries, but it’s FM.
Yep. Should have bought a bottle. Luckily I got quite a few samples.
Your fragrance sounds so nice and the bottle looks pretty.
I’m in Insolence edt. For me this fragrance is pure fun.
Agreed! 👍
Insolence had such a cool bottle back in the day.
Didn’t they? My bottle is that one.
I’m wearing Ys-Uszac Lale which is a lovely winter sweet and osmanthus perfume, and has a soapy lemon detergent , or sunlight soap, vibe. I’m in bed looking at Venus which is shining brightly through the window. Another freezing morning but should be a good day, might go op shopping. Have a good weekend everyone.
That sounds lovely. Hope your had a good day, shopping or no shopping.
For today’s cp, I’m enjoying my summer yoga scent, YR Neonatura Breathe (in Europe it’s called ‘Neonatura Souffle),’ a soft, creamy mix of tiare and ylang-ylang layered on vanilla with a vibrant top note of ginger with a touch of 🍋. My yoga teacher always provides some ginger to us at the start of class, so this is a perfect reminder of peace, happiness and 🤞.
Just returned from my library’s annual picnic lunch for us book discussion participants. Always a good time and each of us gets to recommend a book, which is put on a list and sent to us by the head librarian. Quite a few books today seemed to have characters who were having affairs – think I’ll skip those!
Going to Ravinia tonite, another of Mr. Laila’s radio contest wins, featuring the history of blues as played by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra 🎶 and narrated by Morgan Freeman. Should be interesting.
Hope the weather is getting better for those of you experiencing heat and downpours and flooding. A nice day here as long as you don’t have to breathe – another poor air quality alert, unhealthy for all. Oh, well, enjoy what you can!
That history of blues event sounds wonderful, hope it was!
It was! Morgan Freeman appeared in person in a delightful pre-show interview; he’s been in 104 films! Then his narration appeared on a pre-recorded film, symphony orchestra played the blues in the background but the stars of the show were 2 fantastic male guitarists/vocalists + 2 female vocalists.
That sounds wonderful, and how cool that he was there!
sotd = Iris Ukiyoe
I’ve worn this one every day for the past few days. The travel bottle has lived in my purse all week for top ups as needed.
I always think of this scent as having a watercolor feeling in shades of purple, green, and blue. 💜💚💙
Happy calm peaceful lucky lovely weekend wishes to everybody! You all smell wonderful.
Thanks for the good weekend wishes! Right back at ya!
Hope you have a great weekend too!
I bet that is a beautiful iris. That is one of the few I have not tried.
It’s delicate, fresh, and floral—not earthy or powdery, unlike any other iris scent I own.
Fresh strawberries tonight and we had more rain this afternoon, so the lawns are starting to look green again, they were like straw earlier this month which is so rare in the UK.
Two perfumes for happiness, this morning Chloe Rose Naturelle intense and tonight Devotion.
Smelling great!
Thank you Nina.
I second NinaV!
Thank you Lillyjo, I know you love Devotion.
Fresh, in-season strawberries were always a highlight of summer when I was a kid. 🍓🍓
Same here, I’ve neglected them a little because I got so many nectarines, strawberries are at their peak in the UK and cheap.
I’ll be very happy wearing my most recent purchase, Le Galion’s L’Âme Perdue. I do have qualms about the amount of perfume I have, but the excitement of a new bottle outweighs that.
Anyway, this was a long-planned purchase, so that’s OK 🙂 . L’Âme Perdue was on my list for my trip in April, but I didn’t find it.
Glad you are still excited to get a new bottle Gaynor! It wore off for me, but boy did it take a long time…a VERY long time.
I’m in a favorite Chanel, which I love pronouncing in French – Trente-et-un, Rue Cambon.
Peace and happiness, for sure. Good luck? I suppose we’ll see!
Smelling wonderful today in either French or English.
Great scent!
Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit!
Today is also Colorado Day. On August 1, 1876, Colorado became the 38th US state. It’s sure been an eventful one. Between a couple of malfunctioning smoke detectors and some rather impressive afternoon thunderstorms, I’m thinking that it might be an early night for me. I’m bushed!
SOTD = still in Patou Heritage Collection Colony. Probably my favorite perfume for Summer 2025.
I hope you get a good night’s sleep Jalapeno.
Thanks, me too! 😉
That must be a scent you really like.
It is. For some reason, this summer it is coming across like a scent cousin to L’Artisan’s Timbuktu which has long been a favorite of mine.
I have never smelled Timbuktu so that doesn’t help me to figure out what it smells like, but that’s okay.
Timbuktu is a dry green fragrance with vetiver, incense, and the slightest hint of unripe fruit in it. I think it’s solidly unisex.
Happy Colorado Day, which I learned about today on Colorado Sound 🙂
Thanks! I really enjoyed the all request lunch hour today; didn’t know there were that many songs about Colorado!
More than there are about Pennsylvania, that’s for sure!
Hope you had a restorative night, thank you for the mini history lesson.
I slept quite well, thanks!
Due to when Colorado became a state, its nickname is “The Centennial State”. More history/lore for you. 😉
I said my rabbits at 3, 5 and 7am.
I probably should have gone with happiness or peace, but I chose luck for the cp.
I have a lot on my mind lately, and I feel like luck would help.
I am wearing Tom Ford Orchid Soliel. I’m lucky I was able to get this perfume before it disappeared forever.
Hope the luck you are wishing for comes your way. 🍀🍀🍀
I hope the same for you too, lillyjo!
I should really see if I can still find a reasonable price for Orchid Soleil on the resale sites. I do still have about 10ml though.
🤞 Lillyjo and you smell great.
Wishing you lots of luck – hope it finds you exactly when you need it! 🍀
I went with a lucky perfume again for the cp. Today it’s a rare L’Artisan called L’eau du Fleuriste that I was lucky to find at The Perfume House in Portland in 2016. I’d been curious for years to see if this shop had any left, knowing they once had it, so I asked and they checked their stock in the back and produced the last bottle of it. It’s an Olivia Giacobetti creation with notes of mint, rose, cucumber, violet leaves, chamomile, and beeswax. Perfect for a beautiful, warm (but not too warm), breezy summer day.
Lucky cp twins!
It pays to have someone check in the back!
Yes, you just never know!
Wow, that was lucky!
It really was! That perfume had been discontinued for many years by that point.
I never got to smell that one…your bottle is a treasure!
I’ll send you some! I have over nine freaking ounces of it haha.
Holy cow, you stocked up!
They only made it in a 9.9oz splash bottle!
They only made it in a 9.9oz splash bottle!
