It's Tuesday, plus National Lipstick Day and International Tiger Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
We're looking at another scorcher today; I'm in Carthusia Mediterraneo. Tea at the moment is Traditional Medicinals Rose Hips & Hibiscus.
Reminder: on 8/1, rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's August. Wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Wild Things Elephant Teapot from Kate Spade ("Steep your afternoon tea in this elephant-astic pot") is $50 at Bloomingdales.
Such a whimsical teapot, very cute!
We are keeping the front porch closed off because of the heat and huddling inside close to the air conditioner. I am where I always am this time of the year, longing for fall. Fortunately, it’s supposed to cool off in a few days.
Wearing Zoologist Cow, it has the prettiest musk. Stay cool or warm, depending where you are.
Cow sounds good. I haven’t smelled it but it sounds peaceful
Huddling inside is the only choice…
When it gets to August, I always wish for fall too. Usually that is when we really see the heat and humidity, but it seems like it is early this year.
I think the humidity started in June this year.
Yes!
I’ve noticed that it’s getting dark about 15 minutes earlier now.
Heatwave twins! Cow does sound good – I am always looking for a pretty musk. Does it remind you of anything else?
Not really. It has a soft green scent, not galbanum, more like fresh hay. It is a soft fragrance overall but it lasts all day.
Hello.
Sotd is Lush Super Milk.
Lush is having their seasonal sale and I picked up a 1kg Daddy-O shampoo and a 500g Posh White Chocolate and Rose shower gel for 40% off. Love both products so I’m very happy.
I am going to try not to look at the sale!
Me too.
My credit card is hiding and hoping I don’t notice. I finally paid it off last month!
Congratulations!
OMG that teapot is so cute!
🙂
Another tea pot lover here. I’ll be counting inventory in an uninsulated shed, so it’ll be a warm one. I’m in Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate, and after all these years I still have to google its name. Lovely scent. Have to admit I was daydreaming when applying it, and I just kept pushing the sprayer and enjoying the mist. Then I had to snap to it and get to work. Some days I am easily distracted.
You smell lovely. I also find the spelling of its name challenging and look it up each time.
I’m scenting two more Ace Attorney characters – because it’s fun.
Morning: Chanel Boy for Kristoph Gavin, a defense attorney. Known as “the coolest defense in the West,” he wears a lavender, 19th-century-style suit and has long blond hair. A pretty boy and a distinguished gentleman – sophisticated and elegant, but perhaps hiding something beneath that polished veneer.
Afternoon: Profumum Roma Acqua Viva for Athena Cykes, another defense attorney. Cheerful and energetic, her signature color is yellow, and she loves running around the courthouse before a trial to relieve stress.
“The Cykes Brigade is totally psyched… er, I mean, the defense is ready, Your Honor!”
As always, you have handily accrued the most points for the cp!
Hello everyone!
SOTD is Chanel No. 19 EDT — I think it could work for the community project too.
Once again, thank you for all the kind messages yesterday 😊
The teapot is super cute!
It’s nice to see you posting NinaV. Sending lot’s of positivity your way🌻
Thank you! 💕
Happy Tuesday to all!
Continuing Mimosa Appreciation & Reverie week with Prada Infusions de Mimosa from a thoughtful NSTer layered with YSL Libre L’Absolu Platine.
Robin, that teapot is sooo adorable!
😊
🤗
What a great combo!
It seemed so good I wanted to name the combo but haven’t come up with a name yet.
Esprit Lumineux! Luminous Spirit for this combo!
Nice!
Happy Tuesday, everyone! I’ll join everyone in admiring that cute teapot.
I’m in Chanel Nº18, which is an Exclusif that doesn’t get talked about a lot.
I might have mentioned this before, but not long ago, I read about it on Basenotes – I don’t know how accurate it is, but I found it interesting and quite plausible. The writer suggested that back in the late 80s, Jacque Polge wanted to create a masculine counterpart to Bois des Iles, which lead to Bois Noir, then Egoiste, and finally, after further tinkering, to Nº18 – “a feminine based on a masculine, based on another masculine, based on an old feminine by a previous house perfumer, full-circle.” I definitely get hints of all three previous perfumes, though I don’t think Nº18 is especially “feminine.”
You’re making me want to find my decant and sniff this one again.
For some reason I now have Blur’s Boys & girls running through my head…
Excellent earworm!
Now I want to go on an olfactory journey and smell all of them, Daniel! Quite intriguing!
The Exclusifs are definitely worth sniffing. I used to have a few of them, but just down to one now-31 Rue Cambon.
I didn’t chime in about bath products because I’m a minimalist in the shower. I’m currently using a nice lavender soap and Aveda Invati Shampoo.
Today I’m wearing AA Nerolia Vetiver and finding it very peaceful and perfect for a warm summer day☀️
I used to use Aveda exclusively for shampoo, but then my hair changed and got fickle. 😠
Lovely and quirky teapot!
Wearing Goutal Tubéreuse, a very unadorned tuberose, gorgeous nevertheless.
oh, austenfan-wish I knew this was going to be discontinued-it was a favourite of mine. You smell great!
I got my bottle from eBay years ago. Such a so many great Goutals have been discontinued.
Major bummer that so many Goutals were dumped from their product line.
One of the samples Gaynor gave me was Mugler Oriental Express and I thought it was a really nice powdery scent, almost like talcum powder with a hit of basil ( though Indidnt register it as basil, at all until I read the notes). I would happily take a bottle if one popped up in the shops nearby. Another gloomy day here but the Sweet Boxes is in flower in the garden, a highly scented unassuming shrub that flowers in winter and smells like mimosa. It doesn’t flower for long but the scent is intense and carries for miles ( slight exaggeration). Wearing mimosa cardamon.
Oriental Express was my favourite of the Mugler Les Exceptions. I think it was described as a modern riff on Shalimar at some point.
SOTD is Blanc de Courreges. After wearing it a little longer today I can say it would definitely be office appropriate. The longer it dries down it does smell a bit like pencil shavings to me. However, I still get the powdery, airy iris. It’s very nice and for $25 it’s worth it.
Uh oh, pencil shavings? That’s a “Nope!” note for me.
It’s not much on me, but a few others mentioned it. I normally wouldn’t care for it either, but it is minimal.
In Jo Malone’s Oat & Cornflower. While it’s nice and light, I am wondering why it’s on my Summer perfume tray as it’s smelling quite autumnal today
House twins :), looking for Summery in a Jo Malone.
It’s Au Delà Narcisse for me today. It’s one of those amazing scents that works no matter the temperature or weather conditions.
Yes it does. And it’s drop dead gorgeous to boot.
Perfume in general makes me happy, so this is an easy CP!
I’m wearing SHL Taklamakan, it’s a vanilla, but not too sweet. It helped me realise that I really do like some vanilla-heavy perfumes.
It is easy for everybody, hopefully!
The last of the super humid days for a bit. My sotd is the light and gauzy Dusita La Douceur De Siam. This plays peek a boo on me. I think it’s gone, then out of nowhere I can smell it again.
A lot of horrible news going on the past few day’s. I hope everyone stays safe.
Enjoy that break from those super muggy days! I almost typed “stupid muggy” instead. It fits.
Great scent!
Hello NST! My SOTD is Ava Luxe No. 23. What a beautiful blend of sandalwood, light florals, light musk, a kiss of vanilla, & what I perceive as a mint or anise note but it’s not listed (nor is the vanilla). It’s very soothing and meditative like its lighter, less sweet cousin Tam Dao. I like many Ava Luxe scents very much but this is the only one I have right now. I had others but gave them to my sister, who also loves the brand. Sending cooling breezes for everyone who is suffering from the heat across the U.S. and Europe. Here in L.A., the grueling heat has not yet descended, but I fear for August/September.
Cousin to Tam Dao did make me perk up my ears!
And thanks, we need some cooling breezes.
I’m going with a fragrance to bring good luck today. I was lucky to find a back up bottle of Jour d’Hermes Absolu for a great price from a seller in the Facebook fragrance groups so it would make sense (scents?) for it to be a lucky scent. 😉
Gorgeous perfume!
Nice!!
It’s hot here, it the 90s. I’m wearing Safran Troublant, such a soothing fragrance. I had an eye exam yesterday and got referred for cataract surgery, oof. Eyeballs squidge me out.
R.I.P. Tom Lehrer, such a modest, funny, brilliant man. I know all his songs and was lucky to see “Tomfoolery” at the Village Gate in 1981. When I go on trips and there is singing, I always sing “I Hold Your Hand In Mine.”
Foxbins, I just had both eyes done, 2 weeks apart. I did not want to know the details and it was fine. The worst part was the anticipation and waiting. I rewarded myself with a mani/pedi when I could see to drive when the drops wore off. Plan a nice treat for yourself—maybe perfume?
Thank you for commenting! Did it hurt? Do you still need glasses? I would really like to read without glasses.
Foxbins, I had cataract surgery almost ten years ago. I opted for lenses that enable me to see close up (reading, cooking, working around the house). However, the lenses also greatly improved my distance vision. “Talk to Your Doctor,” but I was glad I picked for reading rather than distance. I wear a single contact or prescription sunglasses for distance vision, driving, or watching a movie or a TV show with more details. Most things I work on are close-up. I was very nearsighted before. I don’t recall any pain, but the post-surgery care is exacting and was a little nerve-racking for me.
Foxbins, no pain. Afterwards some feeling akin to dry eye but not bad. I’ve worn glasses since age 7 for near sightedness and opted to correct that. You can correct both but it’s more expensive and doesn’t always work well if you have an astigmatism like I do.. So I can drive, swim and go to the gym without glasses. I do a lot of reading and knitting and need cheap glasses for that, but I do these by myself so I mind less. make sure you have non prescription sunglasses for when you leave after surgery. I ordered progressive reading glasses ( clear on top going to reading on the bottom) and bifocal reading sunglasses from Peepers. Much cheaper than special ordering glasses. Also, if you wear contacts, you can wear one in the second eye til 3 days before that surgery. Plan a reward for yourself and let us know how you do!
Eyeballs squick me out as well.
When I went in for what turned out to be vitreous detachment, the eye doc tried to show me a side view model of the eye ball to explain, and I said please, put that thing away.
I happen to have a followup eye exam tomorrow, now I’m squidged out in advance 😉
Wearing Guerlain AA Herba Fresca.
It has been brutally hot and humid today. We reached 99 degrees with the real feel of 105.
Tomorrow is the last day of this horrible heat wave. I am anxiously looking forward to Fall.
Happy Tuesday! 🥵
If only we could skip winter and have Fall turn into Spring 🌼
That would be ideal! 🌻
That’s a perfect hot weather scent, it was a bit of a signature for me in the early 2000s. Today is allegedly the last day of our current heatwave–I should opt for a big, loud perfume tomorrow!
Herba Fresca is a staple in my collection. One of my favorite summer scents.
I am glad you will have better temperatures tomorrow. A big, loud perfume sounds great!
It’s been brutal in the Midwest too.
I hope August temperatures are not extremely hot, but I really doubt it!
Oh yuck!! And being in NYC makes that kind of weather even worse.
It is overwhelming. Unfortunately, I had to go to the office today and the commute was like a punishment!
😭😭😭
Here, the Sun was manifesting that expression: “beating down!”
Absolutely!
Brutally hot in Arkansas as well. Also an admirer of the teapot. Wearing Shalimar MVP since I was super lucky to get a bottle, big hat tip to Hajusuuri for helping me.
That’s awesome you were able to get MVP!
Sizzling weather here! I took a late afternoon walk yesterday, thinking I was well-acclimated, but it was too much! I made it home fine, but I’ll know better next time. I woke up today with a new appreciation for cooling and light perfumes, and gave Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt an outing. It really hits the spot.
This summer I have been spraying lower on my body, in addition to wearing cooling perfumes.
That’s a good one!
Posting late today! Got busy and lost track of time.
It’s about 20 degrees cooler here today than it was yesterday. A couple of my weather apps said that Monday had a high temp of 102 degrees F. That’s stinking hot! The cold front brought a bunch of humidity, which just plain stinks.
SOTD = still in CK Truth.
Oh that stinks about the humidity. You though, smell great!
Thanks! Yeah, humidity brings out smells that are less than desirable here. Got a couple more days of it, too.
OK, I have to ask: are these smells from nature, or things like commercial waste disposal areas? 🙂
Some of it is from the Dumpsters, some of it is from people who don’t pick up after their dogs. And a bit of it could be good old hydrogen sulfide (aka that rotten egg smell) from stagnant water a few miles away.
Not pleasant!
I forgot about my bottle of Truth. That’s the perfect scent for tomorrow’s temperatures!
Truth is perfect for summer!
