Tom Ford Black Orchid Reserve ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 11 July 2025 9 Comments

Tom Ford will launch Black Orchid Reserve, a new follow-up to 2006's Black Orchid.

A force of nature, TOM FORD's iconic Black Orchid in a deeper, darker chypre floral dimension.

An increased dosage of ylang ylang adds new luminosity, its sparkling floralcy flecked with effervescent timut pepper. A blackened roasted tonka note smolders in the background while a black truffle accord exudes an elegant earthiness. The rich woody quality of patchouli mingles with amber tones. A study in the beauty of contrast — light and shadow discover they are one in this transformative fragrance.

Additional notes include bergamot and dark chocolate.

Tom Ford Black Orchid Reserve will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum.

Hm. Not a fan of the original, but would like to try this.

More ylang sounds appealing, but I was never tempted to own the original even though I do like it.

I was in love with the original 2006 powerbomb Black Orchid but quite disappointed by the other flankers. It doesn’t need ” new luminosity”, but new darkness !

You will have to see just how much that tonka smolders 😉

I don’t think Black Orchid needs to be deeper and darker, and in fact I’m not sure it could be: it’s already the darkest scent I own by a considerable margin, so I have to assume this is just the usual marketing bafflegab. Still, I’d give it a sniff if I ran across it.

I think it sounds interesting but I’m a fan of the original. Blackened roasted tonka is intriguing.

It’s a good thing I don’t have a credit card handy. This is tempting!

Can’t wait to smell this one. I do think they could’ve changed up the bottle a bit more.
