Thursday scent of the day 7/10

Posted by Robin on 10 July 2025 118 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Piña Colada Day and Nikola Tesla Day, plus, watch for the Buck Moon tonight. More birthdays: Marcel Proust, Mavis Staples, Arlo Guthrie, Arthur Ashe. What fragrance are you wearing?

Among the many smells I would miss from Earth: spices. So I'm in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur.

Reminder: on 7/11, imagine you are an astronaut and you've just returned to earth after nine months in space. What scent did you miss most, and what perfume would you reach for? Suggested by Kanuka.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

It’s really good!!!!! It reminds me a bit of both Berdoues Assam of India and Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom but with the additional sweetness of honey. It’s light so I sprayed lavishly. Lmk if you “ need” to try it!!

Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur is so unique!

I’m with those of you who said you’ll miss the smells of nature, so I’m going with the fresh, natural-smelling Carthusia Mediterraneo.

M usual technique is to look through my collection until I see something that simultaneously says to me, “You haven’t worn me in a while” and “I’ll go perfectly with whatever you have planned tomorrow,” which is why I am wearing SL Douce Amère. Might it actually be one of my top-ten favourite scents ever? It just might!

Continuing my forest theme in Papillon Dryad. To my nose it’s more deciduous forest than the pine/fir/cedar forest of Arso (yesterday’s SOTD) or IA Cape Heartache (bedtime yesterday), but equally enjoyable. Happy Friday Eve everyone!

I am wearing Gucci Envy. Decant thunk!
I have several decants of summer scents that have few mls left. I plan to finish them before the season is over. They are evaporating at a high speed.

Coffee with a dash of cardamom and saffron and a avocado toast for breakfast.
Cloudy day with temperatures in the low 80s, but it still feel very muggy.

    Happy Thursday! 🌻

I wore L’Artisan’s sadly discontinued Santal yesterday because it was an early signature scent for me and therefore feels like coming home (from space or otherwise).

Today I reached for Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet because Linden flowers also remind me of home and are such a comfort this time of year. I don’t even mind the sticky leaves my clients track in my office from the beautiful trees that line the street outside.

I think I would miss long showers, open windows, and the smell of clean washing that has been on the line all day, cottons that are almost starched by the sun and crispy to the touch. I will match with a sample of Laundry Day by Abel ( though down here we talk more about washing than laundry, as in Wash Day/ Washing Day/ doing the washing). The moon is beautiful again this morning. It’s called a Buck moon here, too, Robin…even though that doesn’t make sense for this time of year. I think it would be better to call it a ‘ Bud Moon’ as all the early flowering trees ( rhododendrons/ azaleas etc) now have buds. Or even the ‘ snowdrop’ moon for the sign of early snowdrops. I’d even settle for the lamb moon.

Long showers, yes! Clean laundry drying on the line sadly is a smell I no longer remember.

I hope the moon names aren’t ALL the same. The snow moon in February would be even sillier.

I’m not with the CP today but I have been thinking of some options for tomorrow. My SOTD is Zoologist Northern Cardinal, for the plain and simple reason that I saw a cardinal outside just now when I went out to get my mail. One of my cats was in the courtyard and the male cardinal was giving him quite a string of angry warning cheeps. They must have a new nest out there, but I couldn’t find it. It would be their second one of the summer. Since I have a bag of sunflower seeds on hand I put some outside in a few spots, and hope that he finds them. Now, as to the scent, of all the Z fragrances I have tried, this one has the least imaginable connection to its intended animal. While I don’t know what a cardinal actually smells like, I doubt it’s this mess of citrus and sage and leather and patchouli and oak moss and who knows what all else. After leaving it on a little while yet to find out whether it settles down, I’m probably going to have to scrub it. Sigh.

I don’t have as much luck with Zoologist as you do, and this one was not good to me either. If I remember correctly, I thought it smelled too much like a candle and not like a perfume anyone would want to wear.

I’m loving the space photography this week, Robin.

Today I’m taking inspiration from what apsara said yesterday. I would also crave a good cup of coffee after getting back to Earth! I’m in Lush Cardamom Coffee today, perfect for our cloudy weather and cooler temps, which will be leaving us tomorrow.

Yesterday, I wore Miller Harris L’air de Rien for the cp since I’d consider it one of my top 5 perfumes. I have to say though it’s one of my more distracting perfumes because I’m constantly getting wafts through the day and always think to myself, ugh I smell SO good.

Monday and Tuesday were spent thunking a sample and a decant, Rosy & Earnest Be Earnest and Etro Anice, respectively. I might need some more of the Etro one of these days.

Where are you seeing Anice at discounters? I’m having no luck in finding it other than eBay and Mercari.

Calypso, thx so much for the article on butterflies secreting hormones and scents to woo mates. Very interesting. Quite technical too, but I did catch words like macrolytic (musks) and lactones (that sometimes milky smell in perfumes like Caron Infini and others. There are entire worlds of communication going on parallel to our own that we know nothing about unless we happen to be scientists studying them.
I am seeing a lot of monarchs in our neighborhood, fluttering around and probably looking for milkweed to lay their eggs. We have some in our yard. Sadly, it can look like a common weed and a lot of people pull them out without realizing how crucial a link they are in the monarch life cycle.
I wonder if some sicentists have analyzed the scents of some of these beautiful flying creatures and tried to replicate them in a perfume. Where is my ‘Monarch’ perfume? The label alone would be so pretty.

Yes it did get very technical! I’m glad you found it interesting. I do have Zoologist Moth, but it seems to be more a case of combining scents of things that a moth would like to visit, not what the moth itself might smell like. I’m with you in thinking that a Monarch scent would be fun! I used to collect lots of milkweed pods in the fall and we would keep them in the classroom in schools until they opened and gave out their silky floss. But I don’t remember any scent associations. It seemed like milkweeds were so abundant back then. 🙁

So glad to hear that someone is seeing a lot of Monarch butterflies! It’s been a while since I have seen one here. 🦋🦋

PS. I discovered several years ago that Monarch butterflies can lay eggs on parsley plants if milkweed is not available.

Frozen forest fruits and yogurt smoothie

Early this morning on an impulse I sprayed EA Green Tea honeysuckle, I had never noticed that honeysuckle flower extract is listed in the ingredients along with the usual camellia sinensis leaf (tea), as it wore off after a couple of hours I replaced it with Mandorlo Di Sicilia, all the Blu Mediterraneo line is perfect for summer and tonight it’s the turn of my second Oriza L Legrand this week Empire des Indes and I’m enjoying it as it’s blooming during a rather warm evening but not oppressive.

Wow, real flowers in the Green Tea! That’s sort of amazing given the price, I should have assumed it was 100% synthetic.

I reached for Ashoka this morning because figs strike me as being a particularly “earthy” fruit. I might spray another scent from the Neela Vermeire discovery set this afternoon, but haven’t decided which yet.

Robin, you forgot this one . . .

Happy National Kitten Day to all of you who have kittens, no matter how old they are!🐈‍⬛

I enjoyed the lime scent note in yesterday’s fragrance so much I’m sticking with lime again as the main scent note in my SOTD, only a bit more gourmand, DKNY Sweet Delicious Key Lime. Lots of other citruses in this fun scent as well as basil, which we just had as a cp. Perfect on a nice summer day.

This morning some volunteer time spent at my library and looking forward to tonight’s opening night at our community’s annual summer music and food fest. Hoping, hoping that the possibility of thunderstorms tonight stays far away 🙏 Luckily, I only live 2 blocks away so I can get home quickly if need be.

From my furbabies to you on their special day😽😻😽

I am wearing Dolce and Gabbana Sicily. I over sprayed and gassed myself out for about 2 hours before it calmed down. I smell pretty good now.

Partial credit for this week’s CP with LUSH’s Good Karma showergel. This is a favorite of mine in hot summer weather. I’m going to have it represent all the growing plants on Terra Firma. I really ought to get a medium-sized bottle of this, since the small one I have is already half empty.

Back to seasonal temps today! It briefly got up to 92 before some afternoon rain showers cooled things down even more into the low 80’s. Means I could actually cook something in my kitchen for dinner.

SOTD = still hanging out in Heritage Collection Colony. This one was OK in NJ, but has turned into something special here in CO.
