Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Piña Colada Day and Nikola Tesla Day, plus, watch for the Buck Moon tonight. More birthdays: Marcel Proust, Mavis Staples, Arlo Guthrie, Arthur Ashe. What fragrance are you wearing?
Among the many smells I would miss from Earth: spices. So I'm in Comptoir Sud Pacifique L'Eau du Gouverneur.
Reminder: on 7/11, imagine you are an astronaut and you've just returned to earth after nine months in space. What scent did you miss most, and what perfume would you reach for? Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

4160 Tuesdays Opal Lights
Sent too fast. With notes of lemon Myrtle, honey Myrtle, rose, jasmine tea, neroli, desert rosewood and baronia.
This sounds lovely.
It’s really good!!!!! It reminds me a bit of both Berdoues Assam of India and Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom but with the additional sweetness of honey. It’s light so I sprayed lavishly. Lmk if you “ need” to try it!!
ITA w lillyjo- lovely! 4160 Tuesdays is a favorite brand of mine. So fun.
Definitely fun brand!!!
Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur is so unique!
I’m with those of you who said you’ll miss the smells of nature, so I’m going with the fresh, natural-smelling Carthusia Mediterraneo.
Ha, we both smell great today!
Hello.
Sotd is Memoize London Abandantia. Rhubarb hard candy, period. The cap also looks like a giant jaw breaker, which is adorable.
Sounds good!
Hi all, my SOTD is the original Lauren by Ralph Lauren, in the burgundy bottle. 🙂
Everyone have a good day!
You smell great!! I wore that one a lot in high school ( won’t reveal what decade that was 😂)
Thank you!! Yep, I’m definitely a kid of the 1980’s!!
😂
Same! I had that Lauren inkwell bottle on my desk in my bedroom, a constant companion while I did homework. So pretty!
Early 2000?😉
Ha!!! I wish!!
Ohh, you’re about 20 years too late (for me…) 😉
I graduated H.S. in 1986.
Boy do you smell wonderful!
Thank you!
I’m wearing Andrea Maack Coven, from a large decant. This is a galbanum forward fragrance, which is one of my favorite fragrance notes. This is my first time to wear it, and I am enjoying it very much.
I am low on green fragrances at the moment, so that sounds perfect.
M usual technique is to look through my collection until I see something that simultaneously says to me, “You haven’t worn me in a while” and “I’ll go perfectly with whatever you have planned tomorrow,” which is why I am wearing SL Douce Amère. Might it actually be one of my top-ten favourite scents ever? It just might!
Yep, you smell great!
Continuing my forest theme in Papillon Dryad. To my nose it’s more deciduous forest than the pine/fir/cedar forest of Arso (yesterday’s SOTD) or IA Cape Heartache (bedtime yesterday), but equally enjoyable. Happy Friday Eve everyone!
I love the idea of doing a forest theme. I should have worn Hinoki this week.
I am wearing Gucci Envy. Decant thunk!
I have several decants of summer scents that have few mls left. I plan to finish them before the season is over. They are evaporating at a high speed.
Coffee with a dash of cardamom and saffron and a avocado toast for breakfast.
Cloudy day with temperatures in the low 80s, but it still feel very muggy.
Happy Thursday! 🌻
You thunked Envy??? 🥲
I still have less than a half full bottle that I am hoarding.
Phew 😅 it’s a unicorn
Lillyjo had a partial bottle of Envy that went off, sadly.
Oh,that’s very sad! Mine is still in very good shape.
What a yummy breakfast! I’ve never had saffron in coffee. I adore paella and the saffron makes all the difference in the recipe.
I put a couple of saffron threads in my coffee and just wait a couple of minutes before drinking it. It is delicious!
The next time I have saffron in the house I’m trying this!
I should try a pinch of saffron in the next meatloaf I make. I bet that would be yummy!
Report back! I use a pinch of sage, but I guess that’s common.
Will do. I can mention now that ground elk is kinda boring in a meatloaf. I’ll stick to either ground bison or good old moo cow.
That sounds delish! Please, report back.
I wore L’Artisan’s sadly discontinued Santal yesterday because it was an early signature scent for me and therefore feels like coming home (from space or otherwise).
Today I reached for Astier de Villatte Grand Chalet because Linden flowers also remind me of home and are such a comfort this time of year. I don’t even mind the sticky leaves my clients track in my office from the beautiful trees that line the street outside.
I love Grand Chalet and wouldn’t mind a bottle, though nothing beats the smell of real linden.
So true!
Nice choice. Grand Chalet is awesome.
Thank you! I’m doing a side by side comparison with D’Orsay Vouloir d’Etre Ailleurs
When I was younger I lived on a street named Linden Lane. It always made me happy to write it on mail envelopes. ( when we mailed things)
You smell lovely.
What a great name for a street. Were there Linden trees?
Alas, no but I lived the street nontheless.
A beautiful touching post allo! May your memories be more sweet that they happened than sad they’re past (currently my daily struggle).
Thank you, LesLiesse. The comfort in this case is mostly for the state of things globally😔Natural beauty sure helps☀️
Lucky you! And you smell marvelous, allo!
Thank you, DeniseH. It’s such a lovely note in perfumery and Astier really captured it🌸
“No sooner had the warm liquid mixed with the crumbs touched my palate than a shudder ran through me and I stopped, intent upon the extraordinary thing that was happening to me.”
I hope everyone has a Proust Effect today with their tea/coffee/madeliene/biscuit
Eau de Mervielles SOTD
Library later today, it’s been busy! I think I will be the best smelling commuter when I am waiting on the hinges of hell for the subway to come. No matter the temperature- it’s a sauna on the platform
Scent twins! I thought of how much you liked this, and I love it too so that was my pick today.
EdM twins for the win! 🏆 🏆
EdM is perfect in hot and steamy conditions. 🙂 You smell fabulous.
I ordered a Sammarco sample set last week so I am testing Alter today. It’s an indolic jasmine that has a mimosa note in the opening. I like it but I have similar scents already, it’s a little reminiscent of SL Fils de Joie.
Aha. Because for a minute that sounded compelling!
I would certainly miss Miss Balmain! Trying to thunk this extrait before it goes bad.
🙂
Another staple I love to come home to is Bvlgari Pour Femme. I’m so glad I got a BUB of this as it seems to have been discontinued.
I have never smelled that but will look it up.
This is a really nice review: https://freebox.it.com/2008/03/07/bvlgari-pour-femme-perfume-review/%3C/a%3E%3C/p%3E
Thank you!
Oh, I loved that one!
I loved that one too, wish it wasn’t discontinued.
I miss that one! I used to get it at the discount shops.
I think I would miss long showers, open windows, and the smell of clean washing that has been on the line all day, cottons that are almost starched by the sun and crispy to the touch. I will match with a sample of Laundry Day by Abel ( though down here we talk more about washing than laundry, as in Wash Day/ Washing Day/ doing the washing). The moon is beautiful again this morning. It’s called a Buck moon here, too, Robin…even though that doesn’t make sense for this time of year. I think it would be better to call it a ‘ Bud Moon’ as all the early flowering trees ( rhododendrons/ azaleas etc) now have buds. Or even the ‘ snowdrop’ moon for the sign of early snowdrops. I’d even settle for the lamb moon.
Long showers, yes! Clean laundry drying on the line sadly is a smell I no longer remember.
I hope the moon names aren’t ALL the same. The snow moon in February would be even sillier.
Happy Almost Friday Fragrant Friends!
Sharing words that moved me when they landed in email today:
Your purpose is not the thing you do. It’s the thing that happens in others when you do what you do.”
– Dr. Caroline Leaf
Sotd Laundry Day for a dose of first day of spring optimism.
Basking & basking. I’ve been 180
Degrees in wrong direction trying not to thunk (which keeps auto-correcting to think-been avoiding that too when I feel overwhelmed). Now looking forward to my first thunk!
Remember that it’s OK to not be OK. Especially after what you have gone thru recently.
🤗
Thunking is only satisfying to me when it’s a sample. I know some people love thunking bottles too.
sotd = Etro Dianthus from a sample
With thanks to a wonderful NSTer!
Dianthus is a perfect carnation scent, a flower that I adore. Wow, it’s so realistic, if I were an astronaut returning to earth this scent would make my knees wobble. 🙂
It’s nice, isn’t it? I like it too. I received it from a nice NSTer too.
I really adore the smell of fresh dianthus and the Etro really smells spot on! I feel so lucky to have some to wear. 🙏😍
Love Dianthus! I think I found my FB at Beauty Encounter.
Yes, I see it is at Beauty Encounter for $100. I have thought about it. Are you enabling?
Passing along relevant information. Ha! 😉😉
ooooh, Beauty Encounter, that’s a good tip! 😁 thank you 🙏
Por nada!
Newly landed on this planet, I am greeted by my beloved Indochine.
This clearly indicates I have made it back safely.
Love that one!
Nice.
I’m not with the CP today but I have been thinking of some options for tomorrow. My SOTD is Zoologist Northern Cardinal, for the plain and simple reason that I saw a cardinal outside just now when I went out to get my mail. One of my cats was in the courtyard and the male cardinal was giving him quite a string of angry warning cheeps. They must have a new nest out there, but I couldn’t find it. It would be their second one of the summer. Since I have a bag of sunflower seeds on hand I put some outside in a few spots, and hope that he finds them. Now, as to the scent, of all the Z fragrances I have tried, this one has the least imaginable connection to its intended animal. While I don’t know what a cardinal actually smells like, I doubt it’s this mess of citrus and sage and leather and patchouli and oak moss and who knows what all else. After leaving it on a little while yet to find out whether it settles down, I’m probably going to have to scrub it. Sigh.
Did you manage to get rid of your scrubber?
I saw a cardinal this afternoon too.
I don’t have as much luck with Zoologist as you do, and this one was not good to me either. If I remember correctly, I thought it smelled too much like a candle and not like a perfume anyone would want to wear.
On day three after splashing down, having worn a big floral and a calm incense, I’m keen to smell a fruity pine forest, so I’m wearing SL’s Fille en Aiguilles.
A perfect re-entry fragrance!
I’m loving the space photography this week, Robin.
Today I’m taking inspiration from what apsara said yesterday. I would also crave a good cup of coffee after getting back to Earth! I’m in Lush Cardamom Coffee today, perfect for our cloudy weather and cooler temps, which will be leaving us tomorrow.
Yesterday, I wore Miller Harris L’air de Rien for the cp since I’d consider it one of my top 5 perfumes. I have to say though it’s one of my more distracting perfumes because I’m constantly getting wafts through the day and always think to myself, ugh I smell SO good.
Monday and Tuesday were spent thunking a sample and a decant, Rosy & Earnest Be Earnest and Etro Anice, respectively. I might need some more of the Etro one of these days.
Now would be a good time to get more of the ETRO. Anice is one of the few that seems to be plentiful at the online discounters.
Where are you seeing Anice at discounters? I’m having no luck in finding it other than eBay and Mercari.
Trolling through the NASA flickr pages is a pleasure!
Calypso, thx so much for the article on butterflies secreting hormones and scents to woo mates. Very interesting. Quite technical too, but I did catch words like macrolytic (musks) and lactones (that sometimes milky smell in perfumes like Caron Infini and others. There are entire worlds of communication going on parallel to our own that we know nothing about unless we happen to be scientists studying them.
I am seeing a lot of monarchs in our neighborhood, fluttering around and probably looking for milkweed to lay their eggs. We have some in our yard. Sadly, it can look like a common weed and a lot of people pull them out without realizing how crucial a link they are in the monarch life cycle.
I wonder if some sicentists have analyzed the scents of some of these beautiful flying creatures and tried to replicate them in a perfume. Where is my ‘Monarch’ perfume? The label alone would be so pretty.
Yes it did get very technical! I’m glad you found it interesting. I do have Zoologist Moth, but it seems to be more a case of combining scents of things that a moth would like to visit, not what the moth itself might smell like. I’m with you in thinking that a Monarch scent would be fun! I used to collect lots of milkweed pods in the fall and we would keep them in the classroom in schools until they opened and gave out their silky floss. But I don’t remember any scent associations. It seemed like milkweeds were so abundant back then. 🙁
So glad to hear that someone is seeing a lot of Monarch butterflies! It’s been a while since I have seen one here. 🦋🦋
PS. I discovered several years ago that Monarch butterflies can lay eggs on parsley plants if milkweed is not available.
Frozen forest fruits and yogurt smoothie
Early this morning on an impulse I sprayed EA Green Tea honeysuckle, I had never noticed that honeysuckle flower extract is listed in the ingredients along with the usual camellia sinensis leaf (tea), as it wore off after a couple of hours I replaced it with Mandorlo Di Sicilia, all the Blu Mediterraneo line is perfect for summer and tonight it’s the turn of my second Oriza L Legrand this week Empire des Indes and I’m enjoying it as it’s blooming during a rather warm evening but not oppressive.
Wow, real flowers in the Green Tea! That’s sort of amazing given the price, I should have assumed it was 100% synthetic.
Isn’t it? I was surprised too, it’s definitely one of the best GT flankers.
I reached for Ashoka this morning because figs strike me as being a particularly “earthy” fruit. I might spray another scent from the Neela Vermeire discovery set this afternoon, but haven’t decided which yet.
Excellent reasoning, plus fig 🙂
I’m in Calyx by Prescriptives.
We are perfumer twins!
We do smell great!
You both are wearing the good stuff!
We sure are!
Robin, you forgot this one . . .
Happy National Kitten Day to all of you who have kittens, no matter how old they are!🐈⬛
I enjoyed the lime scent note in yesterday’s fragrance so much I’m sticking with lime again as the main scent note in my SOTD, only a bit more gourmand, DKNY Sweet Delicious Key Lime. Lots of other citruses in this fun scent as well as basil, which we just had as a cp. Perfect on a nice summer day.
This morning some volunteer time spent at my library and looking forward to tonight’s opening night at our community’s annual summer music and food fest. Hoping, hoping that the possibility of thunderstorms tonight stays far away 🙏 Luckily, I only live 2 blocks away so I can get home quickly if need be.
From my furbabies to you on their special day😽😻😽
Teflon kitty says “Thanks” for remembering National Kitten Day!
Ha, so sorry!!
Hope the storms bypassed you, that sounds fun.
Holts was having its irregular perfume and makeup sale, and I finally bought a bottle of Chanel l’Eau. Very nice and low-key,
Oh my! Is this in-store only?
Posting and running tonight.
I am wearing Dolce and Gabbana Sicily. I over sprayed and gassed myself out for about 2 hours before it calmed down. I smell pretty good now.
Meep meep!
Not 8 sprays I take it 🤣
Partial credit for this week’s CP with LUSH’s Good Karma showergel. This is a favorite of mine in hot summer weather. I’m going to have it represent all the growing plants on Terra Firma. I really ought to get a medium-sized bottle of this, since the small one I have is already half empty.
Back to seasonal temps today! It briefly got up to 92 before some afternoon rain showers cooled things down even more into the low 80’s. Means I could actually cook something in my kitchen for dinner.
SOTD = still hanging out in Heritage Collection Colony. This one was OK in NJ, but has turned into something special here in CO.
Yay on different weather turning perfumes into something more special!
Sure beats the other option, doesn’t it? 🤣🤣🤣
