Wednesday scent of the day 7/2

Posted by Robin on 2 July 2025 114 Comments

It's Wednesday, World UFO Day, and the second day of National Ice Cream Month. Donatella will be stopping by tomorrow! Birthdays: Thurgood Marshall, Larry David, Jerry Hall. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in the answer to at least 68 community projects, including this week's: Guerlain Cologne du 68.

Reminder: on 7/4, wear a fragrance with a basil note, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Up early, Robin?

I’m wearing Acqua di Parma Blu Mediterraneo Mirto de Panarea and Penhaligon’s Lavandula. Both are supposed to have basil, but I’d never noticed it before. Today I really tried, and I can detect it in the AdP – though it’s far from a strong note. As for Lavandula, it still smells mostly like lavender, with just a hint of something herbal.

    Partial credit, I suppose.

I never heard anybody say “down the shore” til I moved near Philly, and then it always meant Jersey. Apologies if I am repeating a conversation we’ve already had.

Often in our picture collection at NYPL patrons want to see UFO pictures (as well as witchcraft) -so happy UFO day to those you are celebrating.

All the talk about Omnia yesterday I am in the OG Omnia. I would love to smell the new crystalline (new bottle!) and the amethyst mentioned yesterday.

    Double espresso this morning.

I really liked the Crystalline flanker that came out around 2012 – 2013. It was an EdP that was really pretty on my skin, while the original Omnia Crystalline EdT was sharp and stabby.

I’m wearing Philosophy Pure Grace that someone included in a swap package, if it was you, thanks! It goes to a skin musk drydown pretty quickly but I keep catching whiffs of it and it does smell nice.
The vegetable garden is going strong, the tomatoes, zucchini and peppers all have enjoyed the heat wave. Eggplants have lots of flowers. But the cilantro I planted isn’t doing anything. Parsley, though, we have tons! I need to freeze some.

    Hello.
    Sotd is LV eLVes.
I just watched Jurrasic Park Rebirth, and in 3D too! The previous 3 or 4 films got progressively meh but this one’s a huge improvement and had that good old JP feel. The dinosaurs are finally the main foucs of the film and they are majestic (and one super adorable).

SOTM, and possibly SOTES (scent of the entire summer), is Eau d’Hadrien EDT. I just went outside to water a few things and it’s absolutely the most glorious morning in a long time — sunny, dewy, cool but not chilly … in a word, perfect.

SheriG, that’s one of my all time favourite scents, and I love the EDT the most:) If you ever get a chance to try the shower gel it’s fantastic-true to the scent and helps it last longer, plus it’s just such a good product.

I’m wearing Mure et Musc Extreme from L’Artisan. Oddly, the regular version lists basil but the Extreme does not. I’m assuming it might be in here anyway but I’m not detecting it. Now I want to go somewhere to compare the two side by side. Anyway, I smell rather sweetly fruity and delicious! Bracing for another hot day. It’s frustrating to stay home all the time but venturing outdoors is a struggle.

I empathize with your frustration – I’m an ‘outside’ person but can’t stand to be outside when it’s so hot and humid. We had another brief respite the last two days, I sat out on the screened porch last night and listened to the ballgame and this morning I enjoyed my morning coffee and newspaper on our little deck by the waterfall, something I usually do a lot in summer but not this one! But now it’s gotten hot again and the next few days will be very hot and humid so it’s back to indoors again and a/c. My garden is suffering from lack of attention but I just can’t do it.

No basil, but I was in the mood for Bulgari Black, which, as it turns out, works really well on a hot muggy day — the sharpness of the rubber/leather cuts through the vanilla beautifully.

Hello NST! Had a great vacation on the Big Island and am slowly adjusting back to the realities of work. 😅

I bought some Arquiste samples a few weeks ago and today I am trying Indigo Smoke…a semi-sweet, woody incense to my nose so far…quite nice.

Yesterday I sampled L’Or de Louis and loved it…may need a FB or at least a travel spray. Some NSTers had mentioned it in the last couple months and I sought out a sample. It’s a great mix of orange blossom, jasmine and musk w/ an interesting, animalic undercurrent that’s really good. I have lots of orange blossom/jasmine forward scents but the dry down/animalic base is pretty alluring. 😌

Also curious if anyone has bought decants from Nectar Atelier. There are a few Dries Van Noten perfumes I want to try that aren’t in their discovery set…le sigh.

Not CP compliant today, though I do have some basil in my collection. But…the postwoman came today with my Spoturno sample set, so I’ll be wearing those over the next few days. First up is 1921, which I am enjoying greatly. I loved the citrus in the top notes, which has faded now into a beautiful perfume — a big, beautiful, old-time but not old-timey PERFUME. With a big price to match…holy moley! I will likely have to content myself with the sample.

The hot weather broke as it was expected, some rain this morning but not enough and it’s 73F, I made the conversion.

To celebrate cooler temperatures I chose Mystère this morning and tonight for the CP, it’s Crazy Krizia, a very opulent perfume and early Dominique Ropion according to Fragrantica.

I’ve checked Fragrantica’s list of perfumes with basil notes, and I don’t have any of those, so I’m continuing with my theme of spices, being adjacent as they are to herbs.
I’m wearing Majda Bekkali Mon Nom est Rouge for its wonderful ginger note.

I started off with that list as well, but the odd thing is it does not contain all of the perfumes that contain basil and are included in their database.
For instance Eau Sauvage is not on that list but if I check its notes on Fragrantica, it lists basil.
Still, that will not make green herbs in perfume more palatable to you

sotd = Apres l’Ondee + Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat

Soft and delicate meets light and sunny, and I like these two together.

Didn’t actually spray one on top of the other – put the first on wrists and the second on inner elbows.

Robin, you smell fantastic in the best kitchen sink cologne that ever lived. Cd68 is now on my bureau so it gets some wear in the coming weeks. I have a sample of Parfum du 68 that I adore as well. So pretty, so well-built, so interesting to sniff. 🙂

😳 really! fleurs de cedrat is hard to find? I got my tester bottle super cheap from a discounter years ago. Sigh… I will continue to spray with abandon even so. ☺️🍋

SOTD = Frederic Malle Synthetic Jungle

    Woot! It has basil! 🌿

In other news, I haven’t had a margarita in a while … not planning to have one either unless I’m at a location that serves it. Anyway, one could get a margarita burn but I believe it’s due to the lime 🍋‍🟩 it’s usually served with. Fair warning! (NB: Not sure if you can read the article.)

I was able to read that article no problem. I’ve never had any issues dealing with citrus fruits in the summer. Just made sure to wash my hands immediately after handling said fruit.

Some of my favorite marinades have a healthy slug of citrus juice in them.

Yikes! That lime and sunshine reaction happened to a friend. She had to see a dermatologist for help.

Doing some loads of laundry this evening so I don’t have to do it over the Fourth. I wasn’t sure if I would be hanging out with my brother this year. But his 7 days off start tomorrow morning. And he texted me yesterday that he had taken some steaks out of the freezer to thaw for us.

SOTD = Cartier Baiser Vole EdP. It stopped spraying after the application today, but there’s a little bit left in the bottom. And I have pliers handy!

What a nice bro you have! As an only child, I’m envious.

We worked together to get those steaks, since they came in a 10-pound pack. Much easier to afford half of it.

I got lucky with my sibling. Some of my friends fought horribly with theirs. 🍀🍀🍀

      Enjoy those steaks!

I did three loads of laundry today. Just felt in the mood. I really mind laundry least of all the household chores. Folding and putting away clean things is a happifying activity for me.

You smell wonderful! If I recall correctly your scent is in that cool flip top bottle. I love that so much. I need to wear mine soon. I gave it a timeout because it seemed like a few spritzes would stick to my skin for days, something I’m not fond of in winter.

I’ve been lousy at keeping up with comments the past week or so, wanted to reply to your query … when I lived in the NE US my zip code was 07060. 😉

Ah! Your former ZIP code was on the other end of NJ from where I was. Mine was 08054.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good Baiser Vole smelled today in Colorado’s dry heat. It was usually too much for me in more humid climes.

So glad your brother will have some time off and that you will be together for the 4th. Your brother and mine sound quite similar.

Is your brother mechanically inclined too?

I’m figuring I will get a short phone call from mine tonight. He usually is wiped out at the end of a hitch.

Another busy day at work. The Fall and back to school merchandise is coming in like crazy now.
My sotd is LM Vanilla Coconut. It matches all of my summer body products.

The last of our brief respite from the extreme weather ends today with a return to hot and sticky for the weekend. No pool for me today, though, just numerous household chores and preparing for tomorrow’s grocery shopping. We did get out for a yoga class at the library this afternoon and we finally got the houseplants arranged around our little waterfall for their summer vacation.

I’ve been enjoying philosophy Falling in Love Summer all day; the blackberry note is a little softer and joined by some florals. It was a nice accompaniment to my miscellany of chores today.

Looking forward to our community fireworks celebration tomorrow night 🧨🎇🎆!

I like the idea of the houseplants getting a summer vacation! I am not that nice to mine 🙂

But I also get a summer vacation from them, too – I don’t have to care for them, Mother Nature does! With only an occasional bit of help from us if it gets too dry. Much easier just hosing them down outside than it is to water each and every one separately inside. And they really thrive outside and come back in the house in mid-September lush and green!

Late reply, but I have too many plants…I should try this method and have a vacation from their care!

I don’t mind hot but can’t handle the humidity like you.
