Tuesday scent of the day 7/1

Posted by Robin on 1 July 2025 113 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Happy Tuesday, happy Canada Day and welcome to July. Also, it's International Reggae Day, National Gingersnap Day and International Joke Day. Birthdays: George Sand, Estée Lauder, Debbie Harry, Princess Diana. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Providence Perfume Co Basil & Bartlett. Tea at the moment is Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey.

Reminder: on 7/4, wear a fragrance with a basil note, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Mr and Mrs Rabbit bone china teapot ("It’s made in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the English pottery industry. This design features rabbits dressed in their eccentric Sunday Best hats") is £86.50 at High Teas of London.

Forgot my rabbits this morning. Just took my shower and currently testing out Lush’s Sleep body products. So far I am liking it and thinking about putting on some Jicky since I think Jicky would layer quite nicely with it.

I’m enamoured with their shower gel and lotion but they do make me Sleepy at night. Do you find they just relax you during the day rather than make you crave a nap?

This is my 1st time using the Sleepy bath products. I have never tried anything from Lush before.

That’s an exciting discovery to use Lush products! They have many scent profiles so if the lavender & oud isn’t for you I urge you to experiment with another one. Rose Jam and Sticky dates are popular.

I have the Rose Jam body wash but not the lotion or perfume. Rose Jam sounds like it would layered nicely with Lyric. Ulta carries some of the Lush products and that is where I got my Lush stuff.

Happy Canada Day, all! Since I have the day off I’m keeping busy with chores (vacuuming, laundry, changing the bedding, all that) and smelling particularly Canadian in, not maple syrup, but Alfred Sung Encore, one of those narcotic tuberose-based scents which sprang up in the wake of Dior Poison. (In truth it’s the only Canadian fragrance I own, so I wear it every July 1st, why not?)

Happy Canada Day! My mum makes maple syrup cakes to celebrate. The cake varies year to year but my favourite is her maple syrup sticky pudding.
Do you own any Zoologist? That’s Canadian but I didn’t wear any, gotta remedy that later.

Asked google what perfume Debbie Harry wears, and assume the answer is one Rabanne hired her to front: Black XS Be a Legend Debbie Harry, a floral woody musk, featuring a top note of hellebore, white rose and saffron, with a heart of patch and agarwood, and a base of black vanilla husk and amyris.
Certainly never heard of it. Am in Porter sa Peau, which has a rose note, like the birthday gal’s scent 😉🌹

I never tried Carat-I see it’s not available anymore. Is this worth sniffing out?

I have tried Carat, but don’t remember much about it. I think I thought it was pretty but not worth full price. It definitely wasn’t as interesting as La Panthere.

I would agree, I thought it very well made but not as distinctive as La Panthère. Sort of like the difference between the original Omnia and Omnia Crystalline.

I’m in Sonic Flower by Room 1015. I love this perfume even if it doesn’t last long. I’m close to thunking my travel spray. It’d probably be silly to buy a fb given its lasting power? Or maybe that justifies buying the biggest bottle so I could spray more?

I remembered my rabbits when I was putting on my makeup this morning. It was beautiful when I stepped out of the house this morning. 69, blue skies, low humidity. Is it September yet? lol. Just kidding, summer IS my favorite, but good grief last month was hot.🥵 Hoping for some more pleasant weather this month.

    Hello and rabbits x 3!
Sotd is Guerlain’s new limited Amour Celeste. It’s pretty. Pretty boring…sorry, for a $900 price tag I want somethin special. It’s a light pink floral with a waft of peach and a weak tea base. Not much sillage but the lasting power is decent for a skin scent.

Tested JM’s Raspberry Ripple yesterday. It’s a raspberry lipbalm/liptint (not quite lipstick yet). Lasting power and performance is nowhere to be found. Immediate skin scent upon application and gong within the half hour.

July already! I vaguely recall rabbitting at 3 a.m., and then drifting back to sleep. This morning I layered Cristalle EDT over Le Dix dusting powder and it’s a very nice combination — will try layering the two EDTs and see if that works as well.

Hey Smokey Toes, glad you are back home snuggling with Beau the Kitty. I’m sending you healing thoughts.
I read that the Estee Lauder Private Collection Legacy has a basil note but I don’t have any so am cheating with the OG Private Collection, which probably has it too, such a fantastic rich green chypre. All this basil talk is giving me a hankering for Genova pesto. Good thing I’m going to the farmer’s market tomorrow. I will also be hauling back two boxes of Blenheim apricots, my faves, once a staple of California backyards, now almost impossible to find at supermarkets because they don’t travel or store well, are small, and are often mottled in color. But the taste can’t be beat. My Russian-French mother, grandmother, and great aunt used to make jam each summer with the trees from our yard, so I carry on the tradition.

Thanks for the happy thoughts! As a lover of green chypres, I adore Private Collection, I am nearing the end of my vintage bottle, I use it sparingly these days. That jam sounds wonderful! I remember eating something similar (we’re Russian/Latvian on my mom’s side), when I was a kid. I’ll have to dig through grandmother’s cookbooks…

My husband has a lab student who wears perfume and he kept mentioning ( to me) how much he liked the smell but couldn’t ask the student for fear of sounding creepy. This has been happening for a few months so, naturally, my interest has also been growing. Anyway, my birthday is next month and my husband is travelling to the student’s home country next month and so linked those two things together to ask the student about perfume shopping in the city…long story short: the perfume they wear turns out to be Omnia Amethyst ( the iris flanker). I’ve never smelled it so I’m curious now. Wearing Tacit for Basil Wednesday.

    Happy Canada Day!

I searched basil notes in scents and discovered that Givenchy eaudemoiselle is cp compliant so I have that on today. (I have a mini that was in an airport 5-pak that I got a few years ago at duty-free).

Last night I wore Guerlain AA Anisia Bella after my shower. Wow! It’s such a beautiful fragrance that also has basil. I got this in an epic swap with a wonderful NST’er! Thank you again!

I might need to find a lotion with basil, especially for the heat. Does anyone have a good recommendation?

Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie, ice cold because it’s hot, for the UK that is, 34C but it’s 4 or 5 degrees more on the continent, so can’t complain too much and the temperatures will fall tomorrow with rain announced at last.

Today was Eau de Guerlain for the CP, very refreshing but long gone now, tonight Chloe Rose Naturelle intense, a dewy, delicate rose, not very intense but lasts well.

Wearing OJ’s Ambre Royal, which I think I acquired through an NST swap. It’s an ambroxan bomb, so definitely not for everyone. I can’t wear it when I’m feeling headache prone. So far, an ambery musk bomb myself, and still headache free.

For that reason, I have not found any OJs I can wear, despite wishing to have the experience so many of you have enjoyed with the brand.

This one in particular is not for the faint of ambroxan. Whew!

I don’t think I have any perfume with a basil note, I’ve come to realise that I’m not a huge fan of herb notes. However, I am a huge fan of spice notes, and herbs and spices are highly related in their uses 🙂 .
So, I’m CP-adjacent in SL’s Rousse with its cinnamon note.

    🐇 🐇🐇 x 4 !!! I have 3 to give away!

SOTD = Mugler Les Exceptions Orient Express

So nice! One of my first splits I had to buy two to cover the interest! And it has basil, not that I can detect it.

I ended up wearing Dior Addict to cover orange blossom and Chanel Paris Deauville to cover basil. Both are quite good!

In other news, if you can develop an influencer (example: your child), would you? While it is nice to have an income stream, I can’t help but think it’s “taking advantage” of an innocent being who cannot judge for themselves. I deliberately used the quotes because I am not for or otherwise; however, I lean towards the don’t do it part.

Orient Express is probably going to be my pick for Friday. You smell great!
When my Son was younger, he wanted to make social media videos. I didn’t let him. My main concern was privacy and internet safety. Money or not, I didn’t want strangers looking at my kid.

Happy Canada Day to our friends in the Great White North!

Looks like I have more than one option for basil in perfume, assuming I can find the samples in question. They’re stashed around here somewhere.

SOTD = commando. Couldn’t decide what perfume to wear today. 🤷‍♀️

Another brief respite from the summer yuckiness today, temps in the upper 80’s but with much lower humidity, lots of 🌞 and a nice breeze made it a perfect pool afternoon, so restorative for me. Showered afterwards with orange shower gel, then used BBW’s Endless Weekend body products as a base for Hermes EdM. I wonder if this is my favorite scent ever – each time I wear it, I ❤️ it more!

    Happy evening to all!

Yes, but after tomorrow it’s back up into the mid 90’s., high humidity, and possibility of storms. In other words, ‘yuckiness’!🤢

Hello, and thanks for all the Canada Day wishes:) I wore Hermes Pamplemousse Rose. It’s been a great Canada Day, and there might be fireworks later-if I can stay awake, which I doubt:) We did a nice bike ride and went to an independent brewery. It was hot and sunny, and I can recommend Biolage SPF 40 as a great form of skin protection. Doesn’t leave the skin greasy, smells good, and protects, which is the most important thing.

Now off to try and get all the sunscreen off.

Happy Canada Day, carole! Yesterday I had to use a Lush scrub to remove all the sunscreen I applied since we had a lazy day at the lake on the floaties. Bike ride and brewery sounds awesome!

I’ll look up your sunscreen recommendation! Recently I’ve been using a Vichy tinted sunscreen for the face; so far so good since I need to use a mineral one there.

I made 4 appointments, went grocery shopping ($1.96 hamburger week!) And did 2 loads of laundry today. Pretty productive if you ask me.
My sotd is LVEB Crystal Soliel.
I stopped at Ulta and I was overwhelmed by how many brands are doing body mists now. I tried one I liked but it was $42.00! Get the heck outta here! Lol.

That hamburger price is amazing!! I count myself lucky if I see it for $4 a pound. And that doesn’t happen very often anymore.

Yeah for productive day, you’re the queen of LVEB flankers, they’re well made and different enough from the bombastic of.
