Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Chocolate Pudding Day! It's also the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Birthdays: Pearl S. Buck, Peter Lorre, Laurie Lee, Gilberto Gil. What fragrance are you wearing?
We have moved from crazy hot to just hot; I'm celebrating with L’Artisan Parfumeur Séville à l’Aube.
Reminder: 6/27 is National Orange Blossom Day...you know what to do! (This is another repeat.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is J’adore L’Or. Orange blossom dipped in gold. Has a powerful sillage which I love. If I smell like a goddess, people need to know, lol!
Ha, yes they do!
Twins, Robin!
I layered L’Artisan Parfumeur Séville à l’Aube with Penhaligon’s Castile. So much radiant orange blossom, even though Castile is clean and soapy, while Séville à l’Aube is juicy and just a bit dirty. I think I’ll call this combination “Under the Spanish Sun”.
Hey twin! That sounds like a good pair.
Terrific combo name
Now I’m craving blamenco, tapas, and cava!
Since you asked about Teflon, I figured I’d post a reply here. She is still on ear drops, but on a reduced dosage. It’s every 3 days now. She does have a couple of hot spots that I am trying to deal with, but other than that, she’s doing fine. Thanks for asking!
Glad to hear she is better!
I don’t eat chocolate pudding but I will just eat chocolate.
I started my morning with an orange blossom water I spray on my face. It’s refreshing and smells lovely!
I would eat chocolate pudding if I had any, but like you I will settle for chocolate.
I don’t own many orange-blossom scents but one I do love is Etat Libre d’Orange Divin’Enfant, which starts off smelling of baby powder and orange-flower marshmallows and then takes an unexpected turn into adult territory by becoming a leather-tobacco scent. No idea how it’s done but it’s terrific.
That sounds amazing.
I’d say you deserve extra points for the name of the house.
Had never tried any Neela Vermeires till now–they struck me as the sort of dense, opulent orientals that aren’t usually my thing. But because tuberose, am in a sample of Eshal. Very pretty, and features a bitter orange note, so perhaps I’m cp compliant. But the $385 price, egad (it’s described as an extrait). Would buy a travel spray if one materialized.
Glad to hear Eshal is very pretty! Pichola is also not a dense oriental, more like a dewy floral. But not everybody loves it 🙂
Just got word that my last remaining grandparent has died and about to leave for the funeral home to help with arrangements. It’s a relief because she had dementia and kidney disease. Wearing Kyoto. Need something a little more soothing that isn’t overbearing.
I’m sorry for your loss, Dawn, but I understand the relief as well. I hope the arrangements are straightforward.
I’m sorry for your loss, and send sympathy to your family. It’s tough to lose someone even when the circumstances are sad, as with your grandparent.
So sorry for the loss of your grandparent. I lost my mother a few years ago to dementia and though I was very sad, I know how you feel that relief as well.
Dawn, big hugs 🤗! May you be filled with peace and calm during this sad time!
Oh Dawn, I have walked a mile in your moccasins. Sending you hugs.
So sorry Dawn.
May she rest in peace. Hugs to you Dawn.
So sorry to hear this, Dawn.
My sympathy, Dawn, you have been through a lot lately. Kyoto is a beautiful choice.
I’m very sorry for your loss Dawn.
My sympathies Dawn. But I also understand the relief. Been there.
I have a fair amount of orange blossom, especially in my samples, it seems. Today I’m wearing Puente Eaden, which I like a great deal, but I haven’t quite been tempted into a FB since I have enough Azemour to last a long time.
June-uary here again, typical for this week of the year. I hope everyone who’s been hit by heat waves is getting some relief now.
Same. We could actually do with more rain this way,
I’m trying to do major decluttering in my house now, a bit every day so I don’t get too overwhelmed. (Doing what Mom always recommended!). I have been going through my NUMEROUS boxes of perfume samples and found some good stuff this morning that I’d forgotten I have. Among them was an orange blossom queen, Guerlain Imagine. The sample bottle had no further identification and I see on Fragrantica that it’s had quite a few versions, all topped with orange blossom. I can’t say which one this is. The bottle is tiny and the juice is just a sticky red syrup at this point but wow it is something else! It’s pure but has some very exotic angle to it, I can’t quite put a name to it. Anyway this is something I must remember to check out the next time I’m in the Galleria and near a Guerlain boutique there.
Hot sunny day today, so it’s a good day to stay inside. I’ve been watching some Japanese yakuza movies recently, trying to get background on the Korean gangster films I love so much. If you have recommendations for good yakuza films, let me know!
You can always try diluting it with a bit of perfumer’s alcohol…
Good thought, but I am afraid by now I have dumped out every little dreg trying to absorb that gorgeous essence!
https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/sonatine-1998
Sonatine is a pretty good movie but you’ve probably already covered Kitano.
I’m watching his Hana-bi now, the one with all his own artwork in it. Holy cow! He’s really a mad genius, and that deadpan face of his just kills me. I’m trying to find Sonatine and can’t find it on any streaming platform. It looks like I’ll have to buy a DVD or Blu-Ray but they’re really expensive.
He’s great. All those yakuza movies and then he makes the really charming Kikujiro. He’s sort of like the Clint Eastwood of Japan in his ‘ lone man with a moral core’ way
PS Thanks for that review. It’s interesting. I really can’t believe how slow his movies are, so much time with nothing happening anywhere. To be honest it kind of drives me up the wall. That long long nothing burger of a baseball game at the beginning of Boiling Point–wow. (And I love baseball!)
A cool day, threatening or promising rain. I’m wearing the office-y Bois d’Iris.
We are expecting a cool day tomorrow and I can’t wait!!
You smell very nice and “office appropriate”😉
CP Sotd Varvatos Artisan layered with Jones Road Shower. In soured by Glannys I’m calling this Basket Full of Dewy Orange Blossoms.
Inspired, not in soured 🌸🌺🌼
🙂
Artisan is great, eh. And usually a good price.
The Macys algorithm totally tempted me when I was buying sheets. But I am happy to have it. The bottle has to be seen so I got my modest bottle collection together in one spot. A beautiful bottle quiet enhances my scent experience, especially if I’m basking and basking in it (who first told me about basking and basking? Please let me know!)
It’s a Rodrigo Flores Roux perfume so you might like to try his others, especially in the Arquiste range
He’s a superstar in my book, but I didn’t realize he’d done this one. Thanks for the heads up Kanuka!
I think Artisan is the best of the bunch.
I haven’t checked the rest lillyjo, but I’ve heard that from others at the counter when I couldn’t resist a test spray.
Sounds like you are enjoying Jones Road Shower very much.
It’s a rollerball, my first!
I haven’t been participating in the CP this week so haven’t contributed much. I believe it was probably Jo Malone Orange Blossom that really sent me down the perfume rabbit hole, but I really haven’t worn any orange blossom for a few years now. I don’t know why but have just found so many other beauties.
I am so glad we finally had some good rain the last few days as we have needed it. We have been running fans and dehumidifiers like crazy since we had our carpets cleaned in the middle of the rainstorm yesterday. Finally, seems to be pretty dry at our townhouse now. All remodeling and cleaning done!
SOTD is Marc Jacobs Daisy. I guess I at least have some white florals on today.
Yay for finishing the house! Daisy is suitably cheerful to celebrate 🙂
Thanks Robin.
I just love white florals.
Congrats on finishing the house!
Thanks. Glad to be done.
Kris, congratulations on finishing your home’s remodeling & freshening up! What an accomplishment! Bravo! And may I say I don’t know many fragrances but I do know Daisy and you smell marvelous!!!
I love Daisy even if it is mainstream perfume.
That went over my head- mainstream? Is that like a bestseller? But aren’t all classics bestsellers?
Mainstream perfume is widely sold in stores unlike many of the perfumes you see worn by people here. Not that people don’t where mainstream scents, but a lot of the ones you see mentioned on this site are niche. Niche perfume is usually made in smaller batches, and more high-quality ingredients are used. Someone jump in if I am wrong.
Unfortunately, some niche is “poser niche”. High price tags with no justification in formulation or ingredients.
So much for me to learn! Thanks all for your patience and never making me feel like it’s a silly question.
Glad to hear that your remodeling is finished!
You and me both😂
It’s sure a PITA when it’s happening! How do you like the results?
Thankfully, I like them, but it is a PITA with contractors in and out. My husband and I didn’t realize how much we didn’t like a lot of people over. I feel like we are getting anti-social in our old age. LOL
Peter Lorre is so great and the movie ‘M’ is such a standout. We watch it once or twice a year and it’s still brilliant. The trial scene is so tense .
It’s going to be a cool , cloudy day here so going with Daim Blond . It’s such a reliable perfume, like a good friend who shows up and never cancels at the last minute.

Peter Lorre, M review
I remember seeing him in Casablanca, where he was able to convey much with very little. I have never seen M, intriguing (and disturbing) subject.
Thank you Kanuka!
So after some investigation I have determined I have never seen a single Fritz Lang film, ack.
Have seen Peter Lorre for sure, but not in that many films…Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, Arsenic and Old Lace, and (!!) Muscle Beach Party.
Thank you for the article. A masterpiece, we see him only as the shadow of his profile falls on the little girl and that haunting whistled song. Fritz Lang is right up there with John Ford and Orson Welles imo.
Definitely. He is an incredible director and M is so good. The mob scenes still ring true in today’s world. The scenes in the building when he’s hiding and the interrogation must be some of the most tense of any movie. In fact, I’m going to rewatch right now!
I am itching for a new bottle of something.
oye oye oye.
This is a clear sign to not buy.
Post shower a few sprays of Paris-Deauville.
Is it always a clear sign not to buy? I am curious.
No? yes? maybe?
oye oye oye.
🙂
What would you get?
I can probably tempt you into something😊 I am terrible at self-control when it comes to perfume purchases.
I am wearing Hiram Green Tryst-orange blossom all the way. It’s cloudy and cool here for a few more days before high heat kicks in. Last night I watched the first three episodes of The Bear. So good.
Has anyone ever written a more choppy, disjointed SOTD post? It’s like my brain spit out random thoughts and I wrote them down. Sorry!
That’s my brain every day! 😀
Nonsense, it was poetry compared to some of my brain dumps!
Can’t wait to see The Bear, I saw season 2 and decided to save season 3 for when they released 4. Must finish Star Trek Strange New Worlds then will get Hulu again 🙂
It’s almost poetic, actually. Try rapping it:
I am wearing Hiram Green Tryst

🤣🤣🤣
I’m in Guerlain Terracotta on one arm and Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs (from a sample that I’ve had for years) on the other.
The hummingbirds seem to have arrived; I just had a visitor. This year I have 3 feeders out so hoping I can keep them happy. The Zinnia seeds I ordered from a mail order seed house were kind of a flop, all around. They’re sparse and don’t look too great yet, so I’m pretty disappointed. Plus they weren’t cheap. I ended up getting some more at a local grocery store less than a week ago and they’re already sprouted. Lesson learned for next year.
We’ve also got house finches drinking from the hummingbird feeder. It’s quite hilarious; seems like the “juice” level was a bit low on one, so I got squawked at to fill it up. Right before he moved to another feeder that had enough so he could get a drink. There was eye contact made!
Lol at being squawked at!
It was pretty amusing! Plus the eye contact.
Hummingbirds are a delight!
They sure are. We had one today that buzzed by; I had to name him George Jetson.
🤣🤣🤣
Those house finches can be really bossy!
They seem like it! I didn’t see any last year so was quite surprised to see them drinking out of the feeders; apparently it’s a thing!
Perry Ellis 360
Women’s or men’s?
Women’s. A gift from a student. 6,8 oz. I sprayed lavishly.
Great gift!
Wow!
I’m wearing SL’s Fleurs d’Oranger, I’ve seen a few mentions of it this week. It was one of the first SLs I bought, back in 2013, according to my notes.
That would be right at the top of the list of orange blossom scents!
I am actually wearing some orange blossom as I tried the Artisan Histoire d’Orangers Extrême in the Printemps in Rouen. It’s enjoyable, but not one of the greats.
Far better was the mint tea I had in a lovely Lebanese restaurant. Apart from fresh mint it had some ground cardamom, home made bergamot tea (she adds the bergamot oil herself) and a dash of orange blossom water. The result was wonderful.
My actual SOTD was Sables, Goutal.
Interesting tea! I put fresh ground cardamom in my black tea frequently but have never tried in mint, much less with homemade bergamot oil.
Mmm, Lebanese mint tea…
Two yellow peaches instead of smoothie
For the CP today Diptyque l’Eau de Neroli and tonight Lush Orange Blossom. They both have honey and ob but while the Diptyque is fresh the Lush is sultry.
Peaches in season! Yum! Your post would be a great answer to “how are you today? Fresh & sultry! And you ?”
I think the response needs a wink too. 😆
Peaches are one of the joys of summer.
I like that answer very much😀
Aurora, do you have favorite peach recipes? I’m still trying to find some time to recreate Dr Jessica’s metaphor of dipping peach tea (which I think needs real peach puree in it) in a garden full of jasmine wrt L’Ete 67.
California peaches are in the stores for me right now. Next month I should start seeing the local Palisade peaches!!
Jalapeño you have to share your favorite peach recipes!
With a perfectly ripe Palisade peach, all I ever do is rinse it off with cool water, then eat it over the sink. Keep plenty of paper towels/napkins handy!
I suppose if I wanted to get really fancy, I’d slice a couple of them up and serve them with angel food cake and whipped cream.
Mine are from Spain, I should have added this precision. Glad you’ll have some from Colorado soon.
SOTD = Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
… from a sample. Nice! Alas, no full bottle nor do I have a travel spray. I must investigate.
No “in other news” either. Will be back to regular programming tomorrow!
For some reason, I thought you did have a NP travel spray.
I’m on our 3 of being on hold.
My sotd is BBW Tropidelic. I had a medical test today and didn’t want to smell perfumey. I figured nobody would get offended at a beach smell.
Hope you get good news from that medical test. 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you! Me too!
Hoping everything is OK. Those BBW sprays can be good; they have their sale on now.
I went last week and picked up the lilac one. It smells great!
Fingers crossed for good result.
Warming up to “normal” temperatures today, so it’s around 88 degrees here. Last night had a whopper of a weather front roll on thru; I was hearing continuous thunder for an hour or so. But it wasn’t the loudest thunder I have ever heard. Sounded more like box trucks driving over speed bumps, tbh. Buckets of rain came along at one point, too. Next month the monsoon may or may not kick in.
SOTD = Jean Patou Chaldee Collection Heritage EdP. It’s kinda skanky on me today.
Maybe the heat made it more skanky.
Could be. Hope my bottle isn’t turning!
But the far drydown is smelling great tonight!
In a good way??
It was a bit much for me today, TBH. Time to try it in different weather out here. I think the last time I wore it in hot weather was back on the East Coast in all its humid glory. Much drier in Colorado!
We’ve got that thunder going on here tonight 🙂
Darn weather front!! 🌩️🌩️
Your weather is always interesting. I have Chaldée too but wear Que sais-je and l’Heure Attendue more.
I have l’Heure Attendue but haven’t unwrapped it yet. I might bring my bottle of Colony out soon in preparation for the return of the hot, hot, hot!
