Thursday scent of the day 6/26

Posted by Robin on 26 June 2025 127 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Chocolate Pudding Day! It's also the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Birthdays: Pearl S. Buck, Peter Lorre, Laurie Lee, Gilberto Gil. What fragrance are you wearing?

We have moved from crazy hot to just hot; I'm celebrating with L’Artisan Parfumeur Séville à l’Aube.

Reminder: 6/27 is National Orange Blossom Day...you know what to do! (This is another repeat.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is J’adore L’Or. Orange blossom dipped in gold. Has a powerful sillage which I love. If I smell like a goddess, people need to know, lol!

    Twins, Robin!

I layered L’Artisan Parfumeur Séville à l’Aube with Penhaligon’s Castile. So much radiant orange blossom, even though Castile is clean and soapy, while Séville à l’Aube is juicy and just a bit dirty. I think I’ll call this combination “Under the Spanish Sun”.

Since you asked about Teflon, I figured I’d post a reply here. She is still on ear drops, but on a reduced dosage. It’s every 3 days now. She does have a couple of hot spots that I am trying to deal with, but other than that, she’s doing fine. Thanks for asking!

I don’t eat chocolate pudding but I will just eat chocolate.

I started my morning with an orange blossom water I spray on my face. It’s refreshing and smells lovely!

I don’t own many orange-blossom scents but one I do love is Etat Libre d’Orange Divin’Enfant, which starts off smelling of baby powder and orange-flower marshmallows and then takes an unexpected turn into adult territory by becoming a leather-tobacco scent. No idea how it’s done but it’s terrific.

Had never tried any Neela Vermeires till now–they struck me as the sort of dense, opulent orientals that aren’t usually my thing. But because tuberose, am in a sample of Eshal. Very pretty, and features a bitter orange note, so perhaps I’m cp compliant. But the $385 price, egad (it’s described as an extrait). Would buy a travel spray if one materialized.

Glad to hear Eshal is very pretty! Pichola is also not a dense oriental, more like a dewy floral. But not everybody loves it 🙂

Just got word that my last remaining grandparent has died and about to leave for the funeral home to help with arrangements. It’s a relief because she had dementia and kidney disease. Wearing Kyoto. Need something a little more soothing that isn’t overbearing.

I have a fair amount of orange blossom, especially in my samples, it seems. Today I’m wearing Puente Eaden, which I like a great deal, but I haven’t quite been tempted into a FB since I have enough Azemour to last a long time.

June-uary here again, typical for this week of the year. I hope everyone who’s been hit by heat waves is getting some relief now.

I’m trying to do major decluttering in my house now, a bit every day so I don’t get too overwhelmed. (Doing what Mom always recommended!). I have been going through my NUMEROUS boxes of perfume samples and found some good stuff this morning that I’d forgotten I have. Among them was an orange blossom queen, Guerlain Imagine. The sample bottle had no further identification and I see on Fragrantica that it’s had quite a few versions, all topped with orange blossom. I can’t say which one this is. The bottle is tiny and the juice is just a sticky red syrup at this point but wow it is something else! It’s pure but has some very exotic angle to it, I can’t quite put a name to it. Anyway this is something I must remember to check out the next time I’m in the Galleria and near a Guerlain boutique there.

Hot sunny day today, so it’s a good day to stay inside. I’ve been watching some Japanese yakuza movies recently, trying to get background on the Korean gangster films I love so much. If you have recommendations for good yakuza films, let me know!

I’m trying to find Sonatine and can’t find it on any streaming platform. It looks like I’ll have to buy a DVD or Blu-Ray but they’re really expensive.

PS Thanks for that review. It’s interesting. I really can’t believe how slow his movies are, so much time with nothing happening anywhere. To be honest it kind of drives me up the wall. The Macys algorithm totally tempted me when I was buying sheets. But I am happy to have it. The bottle has to be seen so I got my modest bottle collection together in one spot. A beautiful bottle quiet enhances my scent experience, especially if I’m basking and basking in it (who first told me about basking and basking? Please let me know!)

I haven’t been participating in the CP this week so haven’t contributed much. I believe it was probably Jo Malone Orange Blossom that really sent me down the perfume rabbit hole, but I really haven’t worn any orange blossom for a few years now. I don’t know why but have just found so many other beauties.

I am so glad we finally had some good rain the last few days as we have needed it. We have been running fans and dehumidifiers like crazy since we had our carpets cleaned in the middle of the rainstorm yesterday. Finally, seems to be pretty dry at our townhouse now. All remodeling and cleaning done!

SOTD is Marc Jacobs Daisy. I guess I at least have some white florals on today.

Mainstream perfume is widely sold in stores unlike many of the perfumes you see worn by people here. Not that people don’t where mainstream scents, but a lot of the ones you see mentioned on this site are niche. Niche perfume is usually made in smaller batches, and more high-quality ingredients are used. Someone jump in if I am wrong.

Unfortunately, some niche is “poser niche”. High price tags with no justification in formulation or ingredients.

Peter Lorre is so great and the movie ‘M’ is such a standout. We watch it once or twice a year and it’s still brilliant. The trial scene is so tense .
It’s going to be a cool , cloudy day here so going with Daim Blond . It’s such a reliable perfume, like a good friend who shows up and never cancels at the last minute.

Definitely. He is an incredible director and M is so good. The mob scenes still ring true in today’s world. The scenes in the building when he’s hiding and the interrogation must be some of the most tense of any movie. In fact, I’m going to rewatch right now!

I’m in Guerlain Terracotta on one arm and Houbigant Orangers en Fleurs (from a sample that I’ve had for years) on the other.

The hummingbirds seem to have arrived; I just had a visitor. This year I have 3 feeders out so hoping I can keep them happy. The Zinnia seeds I ordered from a mail order seed house were kind of a flop, all around. They’re sparse and don’t look too great yet, so I’m pretty disappointed. Plus they weren’t cheap. I ended up getting some more at a local grocery store less than a week ago and they’re already sprouted. Lesson learned for next year.

We’ve also got house finches drinking from the hummingbird feeder. It’s quite hilarious; seems like the “juice” level was a bit low on one, so I got squawked at to fill it up. Right before he moved to another feeder that had enough so he could get a drink. There was eye contact made!

They seem like it! I didn’t see any last year so was quite surprised to see them drinking out of the feeders; apparently it’s a thing!

I’m wearing SL’s Fleurs d’Oranger, I’ve seen a few mentions of it this week. It was one of the first SLs I bought, back in 2013, according to my notes.

I am actually wearing some orange blossom as I tried the Artisan Histoire d’Orangers Extrême in the Printemps in Rouen. It’s enjoyable, but not one of the greats.
Far better was the mint tea I had in a lovely Lebanese restaurant. Apart from fresh mint it had some ground cardamom, home made bergamot tea (she adds the bergamot oil herself) and a dash of orange blossom water. The result was wonderful.

My actual SOTD was Sables, Goutal.

Interesting tea! I put fresh ground cardamom in my black tea frequently but have never tried in mint, much less with homemade bergamot oil.

Two yellow peaches instead of smoothie

For the CP today Diptyque l’Eau de Neroli and tonight Lush Orange Blossom. They both have honey and ob but while the Diptyque is fresh the Lush is sultry.

Peaches in season! Yum! Your post would be a great answer to “how are you today? Fresh & sultry! And you ?”

I think the response needs a wink too. 😆

Aurora, do you have favorite peach recipes? I’m still trying to find some time to recreate Dr Jessica’s metaphor of dipping peach tea (which I think needs real peach puree in it) in a garden full of jasmine wrt L’Ete 67.

With a perfectly ripe Palisade peach, all I ever do is rinse it off with cool water, then eat it over the sink. Keep plenty of paper towels/napkins handy!

I suppose if I wanted to get really fancy, I’d slice a couple of them up and serve them with angel food cake and whipped cream.

… from a sample. Nice! Alas, no full bottle nor do I have a travel spray. I must investigate.

Warming up to “normal” temperatures today, so it’s around 88 degrees here. Last night had a whopper of a weather front roll on thru; I was hearing continuous thunder for an hour or so. But it wasn’t the loudest thunder I have ever heard. Sounded more like box trucks driving over speed bumps, tbh. Buckets of rain came along at one point, too. Next month the monsoon may or may not kick in.

SOTD = Jean Patou Chaldee Collection Heritage EdP. It’s kinda skanky on me today.

It was a bit much for me today, TBH. Time to try it in different weather out here. I think the last time I wore it in hot weather was back on the East Coast in all its humid glory. Much drier in Colorado!
