It's (teapotless, I will do two teapots next week to make up for it) Tuesday, plus the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought. What fragrance are you wearing?
Most of my favorite Beach Boys songs are from Pet Sounds, but I'm starting with an earlier song, Don't Worry Baby, from 1964. It was included on my first Beach Boys music purchase, the 1974 double album compilation Endless Summer. Don't Worry Baby was written by Brian Wilson with Roger Christian, with Wilson taking the lead vocal. While it's not entirely an upbeat song, it still gives me an instant happy summer feel. So I'm in a happy summer favorite, Carthusia Mediterraneo.
Reminder: 6/20 is Brian Wilson's birthday (and the summer solstice). Scent a Beach Boys song, or honor Brian Williams with your fragrance in any other way you see fit. (For lillyjo, who asked for another music cp.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows the Beach Boys (with Brian at the back) at Paradise Cove beach, Malibu, in 1962, in the then-SoCal-surfer uniform of khakis and Pendleton shirts. Yes, you can still buy the shirt.
Bonus listen: an outtake with alternate lead vocal, from the 2013 box set Made in California. You can also find a list of Don't Worry Baby covers at WhoSampled.
Bonus unrelated cover: Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) singing Love and Mercy.
I know only a small handful of Beach Boys songs, but when I think of them I think of beaches and surfing, and more than any scent I know, L’Artisan Parfumeur Safran Troublant has thatgolden summertime glow to it. It’s not beachy, but it’s still a halo of sunshine.
Great call!
Hello.
I will try to do a Summer/beach week. Sotd is TF Soleil Blanc. While I don’t really enjoy Summer, the heat or the scorching sun, I do like the concept of a great Summer e.g. the beach, getaway vacays, ice creams (duh!) etc.
We are having such crap weather this year that conceptual summer might be all I get 😉
I’m in Rumba, which somehow feels right on this hot summer day… and that my bottle is leaking and I better use it up 😉
Oh, you smell great! That’s a fun fragrance.
It’s delicious, but not in a gourmand way. I love it.
Rumba is great, so fruity baroque, you smell lovely.
Oh no, a leaking bottle is such a nuisance.
I will be doing a Costco run today and wear Number One Intense and then go visit my mother. But I have to wash the dishes and take a shower.
Hope your visit goes well, Dawn.
I’m wearing Fidji edt, one of my favorite old timers. Not that the bottle is old, and its probably been reformulated to death, but it still smells of galbanum, which is a favorite note of mine.
Fidji is on my list for this week.
Wearing Bronze Goddess from the swapmeet today, I forgot what the CP was so I’m accidentally compliant. I will have to give this CP some thought! We saw the Beach Boys in concert with a bunch of people long ago, it was a fun, lighthearted show. Have a peaceful day, everyone 🌹
I think I will wear a version of that on Friday.
You smell great! That’s one fragrance that I’ve received compliments with. Must have been a great concert.
The weather today is not giving me beach vibes or any perfume with a beach vibe.
Tom Ford Rose De Russie from a sample
Love this one!
After coming back from the horse races I got the kids some horse stuffed animals and we all watched Secretariat. They liked it way better than Sea Biscuit. I was crying the whole movie-forgotten how much I loved it.
Oh, that must have been fun to watch with your kids. I like both of those movies.
Me too!
My SOTD would have been a good match for the horse movie. I am still lemming Galop though

You and your kids might like Ride Like A Girl which is an Australian movie telling the story of the first woman to win the Melbourne Cup. It’s a nice story and on Netflix, I think.
I couldn’t find it anywhere n Netflix. Hopefully it will make its way
Hope so – it sounds like something I would like as well.
I will keep a box of tissues close by when I do watch it one day
Good morning, all!
The hot weather continues, as does my current obsession with vetiver – today I’m wearing an absolute classic: Guerlain Vetiver (1959.) My bottle has been around awhile – probably from the 90s – and it’s more overtly citrusy than other vetivers in my collection. I haven’t worn it in a few years, and I’m struck by how fresh and almost “sporty” it feels. It also occurs to me that the original Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is remarkably similar – with a more prominent vetiver note, it could be a twin brother.
I’m enjoying your vetiver selections. Can’t wait to hear more of your favourites.
Some of your hot weather is headed my way very soon. Trying to figure out what perfumes will work in triple digits!
Anything, so long as you wear it in a pool 😉
SJP Covet today because I just had to have it.

Back from camping and now in the happy scramble of cleaning all that up and getting ready for guests arriving tomorrow. This starts a whole stream of guests that will keep us quite busy.
We had such a great time camping – we made our own happy hours on the beach at the campground (this is PNW beach, but warm enough for lots of kids to be splashing around), enjoyed beautiful hiking and kayaking and campfires and all the (very) chill atmosphere of the island. Whenever we go, I always wonder, could I live here?
I always wonder the same thing when I travel. But then I am happy to come home!
Yes!
I remember that ad! I also remember when I would wear that much eyeliner. Lol.
Ha – I love the ad. I’m sure I’ve linked to it before.
It looks like the June gloom has departed Los Angeles and summer is here. Finally turned on the a/c.
Dentist today. Found a bottle of the original Prada Ambre in the back of the vault. Wow, beautiful, a few sprays of this will do well for today.
Gotta drive through DTLA to and from. Hope all peaceful.
🤞for an uneventful drive and dentist appointment.
Also, I would love to see your vault!
Oooo I do like that original Prada Ambre.
Dentist appointment twins with apsara … and I do NOT envy the drive thru DTLA — ugggghhh at any time, but especially now. Wearing Bel Respiro because I love its grassy-green vibe on nice, early summer days.
at least we smell great!
It’s SL Fils de Joie this sunny morning. I will have to think about a Beach Boys tie-in for Friday. I never cared for them much.
Sorry! Just wear something summery, that works.
Wearing the last drops of Parle Moi de Parfum Orris Tattoo. Full bottle thunk! I really love it, but I will not miss it because I have so many iris perfumes in my collection to enjoy!
Happy Tuesday! 🌻
Woo-hoo for the thunk!
😄
You sound like me on the iris scents. I think I counted 7 or 8 iris scents I have now. It’s getting ridiculous🤣
My iris collection is pretty big. I am too scared to count my bottles! 🙈😆
Wow, congratulations on the thunk! Smelling fantastic! (I’d love to know all your iris frags 😊)
Omg! It would be to much to list all of them here. Approximately 40 between full bottles and decants. I will check the list and post it here later. 🙈
That’s awesome! You can’t have too many (to me anyways)!
Oh, good. Then I can see which ones I am missing!
Congrats on the full bottle thunk! I can’t remember the last time I did that.
PS. Thanks for the lavender bread recipe link!
Following Tiffanie from yesterday and wearing Hiris today.
You smell great Kris!
Bombay Bling is my summery pick for the day.
You smell wonderful!
Such a great perfume.
It was the midwinter swim here at the weekend, and midwinter celebrations all week with a holiday on Friday ( Matariki) to celebrate the Maori New Year ( when Matariki/ Pleiades/ Seven Sisters) rises above the predawn horizon. My friend surfs all year but the water is pretty cold so it’s not exactly surf safari weather. So, I’m going winter beach with Smoked Ambergris which would also be appropriate for In My Room, I think.
Midwinter swim? Is that like a Polar Bear Plunge here in the US?
People don’t realize how freezing cold the Pacific in Southern California is all year round. Coming from the East Coast, it was a shock to me for sure.
But I bet it is colder there this time of year, and surely the air isn’t as warm.
Excellent song choice 🙂
Lots of good smellin’ people here! I’m in Bigarade Concentree-a generous amount, plus matching body lotion. And last night I finally got into headstand for yoga! I wasn’t that keen on it-I’ve had about four serious head injuries, and so I am protective of my head and neck. It’s Iyengar yoga, and I’ve been practising the prep for almost a year. I honestly didn’t care if I ever got in it or not. But last night I tried, and popped right up. Makes me wonder what else I’m capable of 🙂
Have a good day!
That’s quite an accomplishment to get into a headstand, congratulations! I follow and do Yoga with Adriene; just getting both feet flat on the ground in a downward dog is challenging. I’m still working on it.
Yay – congrats on the headstand! I’ve surprised myself a few times with trying something I never thought I’d be able to do. You never know!
Congrats Carole!! That’s lovely.
I’ll have to think about the Beach Boys CP, and see if I come up with any clever thoughts, meanwhile I’m wearing SL’s Baptême du Feu.
I dithered over it for years, and I’m so glad I finally bought an FB, I like it more and more.
And you are smelling wonderful today.
Don’t really have much for the CP today…SOTD is Hiram Green Shangri-la. I mean, at a stretch, I guess you could say that the Beach Boys’ songs described California as a kind of Shangri-la paradise.
Cool and mostly cloudy this morning, though I think in a normal June pattern, we may see a bit more sun this afternoon. I’m recovering from having my dad here this weekend. I find we have less and less to talk about these days, as current events and history are off the table. But, good to have him here.
I think your match fits! Plus it’s an amazing perfume!
Stretching is always allowed on a cp!
I was looking for Memo Marfa and couldn’t find it but I found a spray sample of Memo Inlé which I am trying. It’s a really quiet scent and I’m getting primarily tea. Very calming but where are all the florals, bergamot, and mint? I would definitely not pay lots of dollars for this! It’s very quiet here. I had a quick trip to Trader Joe’s for a few needed items. Sadly, I passed on the peonies on sale, because they looked so bedraggled.
How’s your kitty doing?
2 white peaches.
The Beach Boys are not my favorite band but I admire their harmonious voices and will honor them later this week. Fils de Dieu today, so I immediately thought of Deva and tonight Flagrant Délice, an almondy fig.
1st song, the amount of talent on that stage and she was unique
https://youtu.be/9PpWBS3mf7w?feature=shared
Thanks for the song Aurora. I have never seen this before.
I’m so glad you liked it Lillyjo, she’s such a distinctive singer and I also like Paul Weller😀💛
I had a huge crush on Paul Weller for a time 😍
Paul Weller absolutely merits a crush!
Enjoy those peaches while they are at their peak!
😀🍑
They are not my favorite band either, and I never owned any of their albums other than Pet Sounds and Endless Summer. But as I got older and learned more about music, I did begin to appreciate them on a different level. I don’t like throwing around the word genius but I do think Wilson was a genius at arrangement. Admittedly I don’t much care about their later music after he left.
Thank you Robin, yes, all the obituaries I read made clear that he was exceptional.
I’m in the new version of APOM today. I get lots of lavender and an extremely luxe musk, but not the orange blossoms. I’m curious as to whether any other NSTers had the same experience with it?
Tea today was Twinings Gingerbread in the morning and Yorkshire Gold as a pick me up this afternoon.
Were you familiar with the previous version of APOM?
I’m not, so I can’t give a comparison. But it looks like the older versions didn’t have lavender, and it is prominent in this new version.
I think the departed, brilliant Brian Wilson needs something soaring, unexpected, and complex.
Been listening to the Smile Sessions all week, which opens a window onto his composing process. Plus all of Smile is so beautifully weird.
I am hot summer day appropriate in Bottega Veneta Parco Palladiano V Lauro. Which I love and fits today’s heat, but isn’t really cp compliant IMO.
I’ve always wondered how that BV line was. It didn’t seem to stick around long.
This is the only one I know. I picked up a small decant on a whim a while back from one of the decant purveyors and really fell for it. Very herbal and summery. Long d/c of course. I finally found a bottle at a plausible price. At some point if I ever pick up suitable supplies I could send some along. LMK.
Smile really is weird! And agree with your assessment.
SOTD = Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit
Sounds good. I don’t like summer so whatever my hand lands on that’s what I am wearing. I have the newer bottle with the ribbon. I have the original one too except I need to find it. The OG is definitely more long-lasting.
In other news, it has been miserable weather-wise although I shouldn’t complain (yet) because it has been not hot. The drivers though can use a bit of refresher training.
For those with Netflix, I just binge-watched Dept. Q. I am hoping there’s a second season!
LOL! Bad drivers are everywhere, alas.
It’s going to be in the 90’s here this weekend. I will try and keep the wind from blowing it your way.
100 on Sunday here.
100 here for both Friday and Saturday. Not gonna cook then!
Very stormy day in Colorado! One town north of me had baseball-sized hail this morning (yikes). None of that here, thank God. Plenty of thunder, lightning and rain, though.
Father’s Day is always melancholy for me. My Dad passed away shortly after my 23rd birthday.
SOTD = Cartier Baiser Vole EdP, from The Sample Stash. It’s working well with the rare humid weather I am experiencing today.
Colorado sure seems to get a lot of hail with the storm’s. I’m getting storm’s tomorrow, where it looks like rain and high winds will be the main threat.
Sending hugs to you for Father’s day.
Colorado (at least the eastern half of it) is part of Hail Alley. Think of Tornado Alley, except for hail. So it is an unfortunate part of living here.
Hope your weather tomorrow isn’t anywhere as gnarly as mine was!
Thanks for the hugs. IIRC, you are missing your Dad as well, aren’t you?
I am. I was 20 when I lost him unexpectedly. It was the biggest reality check of my life Jalapeno.
Thank you for remembering 🩵
My son had a very hard time yesterday too.
I bet you both did. It has only been a few years.
I get it. Hugs to you both.
I have the same issues around Mother’s Day; lost my mom when I was 11. When my grandmother goes, it’s going to be incredibly hard. She just turned 95; it will happen sooner rather than later, but I’ll never be ready even if she is.
I can’t even imagine losing a parent at that tender age. But yeah, even when it’s expected, it is never easy to deal with the death of a loved one.
Sending you hugs, Jalapeno
Thank you Vee!
A rollercoaster of weather.
Sending hugs, in my case it was my mother whom I lost early.
Definitely crazier than usual weather for June here. But summer in Colorado can be very volatile.
So sorry to hear that your Mom passed far too soon. Hugs back.
One of these days, I’ll make it to Colorado other than as a stopover. You smell great!
Should you make to Colorado, LMK! I’d love to meet up!
Yay for a music cp!
I think I have a good song match for Friday. For now, I am wearing summer/ beachy perfumes. Yesterday I wore LVEB Crystal Soliel and today is Dusita La Douceur De Siam.
I recently sampled the new Angel Steller. It’s actually pretty decent. It smells like original Angel with I believe pistachio and whipped cream. It turned a bit sour on me though. I will sample again another time.
So maybe Mugler has turned a corner and is done with the godawfulness? Pistachio and whipped cream sounds like a call back to Angel Muse.
It’s similar to Muse. More sweet and more nutty to my nose.
Muse was so good.
I have to try Amgel Steller and LVEB Crystal Soleil!
