It's Hump Day. Birthdays: Ben Jonson, Julia Margaret Cameron, Jacques Cousteau, Gene Wilder, Hugh Laurie. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Comme des Garçons Kyoto.
Reminder: on 6/13, wear an incense fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat; suggested by ringthing.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is eLVes again. Still in the honeymoon phase with this one.
I recently tried a breakfast beverage from Taiwan called “Mi Jiang” or rice milk. It’s a thick drink made from grinding rice, peanuts and white sesame, then diluted to smoothie consistency and cooked. Sweetener of choice is white or brown sugar. It is really good and satisfying on it’s own. It’s fun trying out new breakfast items from around the world.
That sounds delicious and like something I would have for dessert 🙂
Hello everyone! I’ve been MIA for a week because I’ve been in Canada and enjoying this clean and generous country with so much natural beauty. First I was at a conference in Edmonton, Alberta, and then went to Banff for a few days and now I’m in Calgary. I’ll be catching a flight home this afternoon. I’ve definitely enjoyed natural smells here–fresh mountain air with fir trees, lilacs (!!), and broom, among others. Today my perfume is Amouage Reasons, from a tiny spray sample. It fits the CP because it has Palo Santo, Sandalwood, Myrrh, and Labdanum, among many other notes. I’ll look forward to getting caught up on things!
You sound so refreshed! Nothing prettier than the smells of nature.
Yes! Amazing to have cool fresh air! The mountains were clear, but both cities have had a lot of smoke from the wildfires. 🙁
Fun! How hard is it to get to Banff from Calgary/Edmonton?
There are buses but I rode in a car with friends from Edmonton and it was over three hours. It’s about an hour and a half from Calgary and my friend here kindly picked me up there.
What a perfect mix of destinations and travel. I hope the conference went well.
It was wonderful! But very tiring. I heard 8 talks one day!
So glad you had a great, varied time in Canada, safe travels home.
Hiya Calypso! Sounds like a wonderful trip. Have a safe trip back home!
How great that Gene Wilder and Hugh Laurie share a birthday! Meanwhile, our heat wave has broken, so I was able to wear something other than a light cologne. Chose La Via Del Profumo Tabac, which is not at all heavy on incense while still being CP-appropriate.
How is it I have never tried this? It sounds like you smell delicious!
I really like it, but I don’t wear it often because I bought the tiny 15 ml bottle and I’m hoarding it. 🙄 Turns out fragrantica doesn’t show incense as one of its notes, but it definitely has an incense vibe.
must…investigate..further…
must…investigate..further…
Did laundry and some vacuuming and debating if I should get another small gift for my dad for Father’s Day. I am going with either Lyric or no 5 extrait.
Good for you for getting the chores done!
How’s your mom?
Will be visiting her this afternoon so not sure how she is right now.
Glad you will get to see her, let us know!
Chief Stoick! The new hair and beard oil, that’s really a perfume oil.
Formerly known as Hellstone, I’m feeling pretty earthy.
Robin. Run! Get the Monstrous Nightmare shower gel. I bought a giant and medium. It is about as retro Lush as we are starting to get.
Anyone living with Lyme disease?
Oh my!!
Not me on the Lyme disease. Are you sure about the diagnosis? I only question it because of misdiagnoses in The NY Times.
I bet you smell great! I wish I had a Lush store nearby. I don’t know anyone who had Lyme disease – hope you get some answers.
No advice for Lyme disease, sorry.
But you might have introduced a LUSH lemming with that showergel!
I am wearing Guerlain L’Instant Magic and drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea.
Pass the tea, please.
You smell, lovely, I used to wear it more, must retrieve it and use it again.
*Ignore the added comma
Earl Grey makes for a fantastic iced tea. Means I can enjoy it in summertime.
Really? I’m surprised but will try it.
Reve d’Ossian today. Incense, woods and spice, but to me, much softer than that sounds. Really enjoying it.
For the next two days I am simultaneously getting ready for our second camping trip (Lopez Island, one of the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington state) and getting ready for the first set of many guests this summer. The first two arrive the day after we return from camping.
Summer in the San Juan’s. Lovely.
I ♥ it!
Reve d’Ossian is a wonderful incense scent. You smell amazing!
Hi pl67. Yes, I agree! I think Heeley Cardinal is still my favorite incense, but this is a close second.
You, SP, are an inspiration with all your camping. We’ve had a slight increase in house guests, and I’ve really come to enjoy hosting. (and I enjoy how nice our house looks after they leave, from my more-motivated housekeeping 🙂 )
Reve d’Ossian is amazing stuff. I have considered getting a bottle of it.
That’s some intimidating incense burner!
I wore MCG Exultat in the morning, but changed into POAL for the evening. Double CP points.
POAL is a masterpiece. Nice choice!
I guess it is intimidating maybe? But I love it, I would take one 🙂
To me, it looks like it has a defensive stance – a bird protecting its nest. It looks cool.
House twins – you smell great! I’m enjoying the musk and grrreen in Carnal Flower.
I’ve never seen a quail look like that incense burner. They’re usually rather cute.
This quail does not quail!
haha very nice Glannys
I am pretty sure I have never seen a live quail.
They’re so cute in real life. We have little families of them nearby and they often pass through our garden. I love it when they have their babies in tow! They’re great parents and definitely know when a young one is straggling behind.
Fun!
Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure for the day.
Yum.
Oy! WE ARE TWINS!
we smell great!!
Making some iced fruit teat for a neighbour’s visit this afternoon. Doing a sniff-off of PN samples Isfarkand and Ta’if. The latter is amazing at first sniff, but the latter might pull ahead after the first few minutes.
Have a good visit!
OJ samples? Or PdN? Or something I am not thinking of?
OJ, from the lovely sample set I got. Think they’re going to likes but not loves (money saved)
RIP Brian Wilson
https://pitchfork.com/news/the-beach-boys-brian-wilson-dies-at-82/
I just saw that.
So did I.
Embodied the California sound.
Another musical genius gone. But never forgotten.
Joining those mourning Brian, I was a big fan; it’s uncanny that next week’s community project is about him and The Beach Boys! One of their songs in particular has special meaning for me, but I will save that for next week.
I know…I was either late or right on time with the project.
Wearing another Masque Milano fragrance, Love kills, which is a rose soliflore and rather nice.
Hard not to laugh at the juxtaposition of “Love Kills” and “rather nice” 😉
Yeah, I mostly comment here at the end of a long day when I am pretty knackered, so occasionally I produce rather random comments 🙃
Oh, didn’t mean YOU were funny so much as I meant they were funny to name a “rather nice” rose scent “Love Kills”. With that name you’d expect something that would produce a stronger reaction one way or the other.
*taps mike*
Is this thing still on?
Hello! SOTD is Delina by PDM combined with Covered in Roses body cream from B&BW. I feel very fresh, sweet and rosy. It’s perfect for today- we had a heatwave here in Portland and I couldn’t really wear any scent.
Nice to see you back! I hope everything is going well with work and your house and garden.
Well we’ll, someone’s back!
LOL! Glad you “took the stage.” I’ve been neglecting my rose scents, but you make it sound perfect!
I went in to our ‘posh’ shop yesterday and they had Ann Demeulemmester’s “A” Perfume. It’s a really beautiful earthy scent, a bit like Chypre Mousse but also a bit like the original Yoji Yamamoto. It has lasted all day and night. The big BUT is the price: $895 for 100ml (US$400) . I also loved a Dries Van Noten bag which was $3600…tan leather, perfect size for carrying essentials plus notebook. All this is complicated by the fact I got a tax refund on the same day. I didn’t buy either.
Sometimes feasting with the eyes is more than sufficient!
I just Googled the perfume and it’s only 75ml! Gosh.
Holy freaking smoke! That price tag is insane!
Hello everyone! It has been a while since I last commented here. I started going to the office once a week in May and it has been very tough for me physically , but I am slowly getting used to it. I will be back 3 days a week at the office and still two days working from home after Labor day. It is going to be challenging, but I am in good spirits and leaving everything in God’s hands.
Incense is one of my favorites notes and I could easily do two weeks of incense perfumes. Today I am in Diptyque L’Eau Trois. Heavy on myrrh, incense and spices. So beautiful!
Happy Wednesday!
So good to see you! I think of you often, and Yei. Prayers for an easier and more comfortable recovery.
I knew there was something wrong when you didn’t post on incense week, yesterday.
🙏
Thank you, Annie! I hope all is well with you.
So happy to see you here, one foot in front of the other, sending healing vibes.
Thank you, Aurora! 🌻
Baby steps for the win! Glad you are adjusting and in good spirits.
Thank you, Robin! Trying my best!
Glad to see you back again. Slowly but surely!
Thank you, Hajusuuri!
Hello again, PL67! Happy to have an update from you. Sounds like you are healing well and in good spirits. Keep on keeping on!
Thank you, Jalapeno! 🌻
Two nectarines like yesterday. So, this morning I decided on Coriandre I have a PDT of unknown age but I reached for my vintage EDT and it kept me happy all day. I feel Coriandre is unjustly forgotten too often. Tonight for the CP it’s Vanagloria, I almost went with its cousin Babycat but Vanagloria is more special to me.
My relatively modern bottle does not please me at all, but I have the old stuff firmly lodged in my brain. I basically marinated in it for years 🙂
Oops…that was about Coriandre!
Oh, a signature for you back then, the og is wonderful indeed, you had very good taste.
I *think* have a sample of Coriandre in The Sample Stash…
Do give it a try, especially if it’s the vintage version.
I’m wearing one of my recent purchases, Samharam from Arte Profumi. It’s a lovely incense and comes in a stunning red bottle!
the bottle is very beautiful.
In the town of Burford, Oxfordshire and wearing FM Lys mediterranee. Mostly looking forward to a 12 mile walk tomorrow but a forecast of rain has me a little nervous 😬
I’m far from the best person to comment on hiking. It sounds like a fun trip! When I went to the Amalfi Coast in 2019, I “went with the luggage” on two occasions because I did not want to get soaked.
I’m with you on not wanting to get soaked!
Provided you have good clothes, you should be fine! I just looked Burford up on the map and it seems close to (or actually in) the Cotswolds. I have never been there myself but have seen it in pictures etc. Seems very pretty, so I hope you will enjoy.
We’re walking from Oxford to Bath (southern Cotswolds) because we loved walking in the northern Cotswolds so much 2 summers ago).
We’ve got good clothing, including light ponchos that have saved us several times.
I have recently converted to sometimes hiking with an umbrella. It’s surprisingly easy provided you’re not in deep bush with low hanging branches or the wind. I feel annoyed I didn’t get over my umbrella resistance earlier…even so I never use them in town around other pedestrians. Enjoy your day. It’s a lovely spot.
Our ponchos are great because they’re light and easy to walk in. We just have to make sure that their bright yellow color doesn’t agitate or attract cows in the fields where we’re walking😬🐮
SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure
It’s incense as incense can be. My travel spray sprayer is kind of wonky but hey, it still works!
I worked as a poll worker yesterday. Not sure why some people think it’s a volunteer job… not quite although it would be nice to be paid more. ANYWAY, this was my third stint as a poll worker, with yesterday being the first time I did polls. Who would have thought that it was eye-opening…
– There are RULES about what can and cannot be done by candidates but NONE for the workers! I almost went at it with one worker (whom I met last year) and she could not shut up about party choice. BTW, no change from last year and I was hoping not to sit with her, but…
– When voters are angry, they are REALLY angry…and not just for not being able to switch from one party to another on the spot. To make a change, it had to have been done x number of days before the election and when one tells them no, you can feel the heat going up several notches.
– I was hoping we can nominate voters to be assessed for mental unfitness but alas there is no way. One person just couldn’t let things go, so much so that I almost called the cops. Others just resigned themselves as is and chose to invalidate their vote.
– I calmed down one person when I suggested they just wait to pick the right person come November, but he was not convinced. WHATEVER.
We’ll just have to see what November brings 🤷🏻♀️.
Back to regular programming tomorrow!
LOL! Sounds like you ought to get an award for keeping cool under fire.
I have not voted in person since moving to Colorado. Vote by mail for the win!
Hugh Laurie, the famous actor I’m most often mistaken for! Happy birthday, doppelgänger.
Back from my east coast trip – lovely time with family, and a fun (and slightly surreal) college reunion.
I’m in Lalique’s “Hommage à l’homme,” and enjoying it, as I always do.
Welcome back Daniel! Glad to hear that your trip was quite enjoyable.
Hugh Laurie doppelgänger, I love it! Giggles!
I will think of that every time I reach for one of the Amouage scents you gifted me.
Now that hot weather is here, recent re-obsession Angel is at the back of the closet and am reaching for Elizabeth Arden Green Tea over and over again. I love that I can spray 5 to 10 times several times a day and it is not overwhelming. It’s refreshing, it’s pretty, it’s inexpensive and I’ll be repurchasing once I get through this paltry 1oz.
I blind bought it based on all the rave reviews I saw on reddit, and it lives up to the hype.
Dunno why, but that incense burner looks a little creepy to me.
So one of my friends in the hospital for an infected disc in her spine. She went to the ER on Saturday with terrible back spasms. Latest news is that tests are being run to discover what medicine(s) will beat that infection. Despite this, she’s been in pretty good spirits.
SOTD = Annick Goutal Encens Flamboyant. One of my favorite perfumes, period.
Good luck to your friend.
Thank you Calypso.
Hope your friend will recover soon with the right medication.
I feel like you do about EF, saving it for Friday.
Thanks Aurora. Latest update was that the docs still don’t know what they are dealing with.
sotd = CdG Avignon
Jumping on the incense train. Avignon makes me smile every time! 💕
My neighborhood sniffs today were lime blossoms and roses. Heavenly 😊
I’m in Bronze Goddess tonight after a shower. Still recovering from a super busy week at my sister’s. During the week I wore 4160 Tuesdays Clouds. For the wedding itself, I wore Prada Infusion d’Iris absolue.
I completely missed last week’s fun cp! It was great to read everyone’s fragrance choices.
Sounds like you enjoyed your visit and the wedding very much!
I LOVE incense but I grabbed Le Cri this morning for day at work. I did wear Bois d’Ascese yesterday and that was plenty smoky!
Unum Lavs for the CP. What a gorgeous incense! There are never enough.
