Wednesday scent of the day 6/4

Posted by Robin on 4 June 2025 114 Comments

It's Hump Day and Hug Your Cat Day, plus the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. Birthdays: Elizabeth Jolley, Ruth Westheimer, Val McDermid. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Eau de Givenchy, which I wore for some years, almost but not quite monogamously, in the 1980s into the 1990s.

Reminder: 6/6 will be Signature Friday...wear a fragrance that was your signature in the past, or that you could live with as a signature now, or that you'd like people to remember you by? From suggestions by madtowngirl and chocolatemarzipan8.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning! Hug your cat day-fantastic! altho my cat snuggled on Mon night and gave me a present-a tick. Right to the torso. I found it Tues morning.

My SOTD is in keeping with the CP-Eau d’Hadrien EDT, and one spritz of Passion to the wrists. I think lovestosmellgood mentioned the discontinuation of a few AG, including Passion, Heure Exquise, Ce Soir ou Jamais and Gardenia Passion. I think Passion is beautiful. From memory of over 25 years ago I thought it had more orange blossom but recollections may vary, right?

Deer tick, unfortunately. But not engorged, and I got it all. Pharmacist said I’d probably be fine but to watch for symptoms and of course the red rings. I go back if I have those symptoms but they now offer a medication that should work as long as the bull’s eye is less than 5 cm in diameter. Ticks are bad this year-I’ve never encountered one in all my years of mtn biking. Funny I got it on my own chesterfield, and not out in the great outdoors 🙂

Fingers crossed for you! The one time I had a deer tick, I had been pulling weeds from my brick patio, so they really can be anywhere.

Eek! A tick! Please be careful. Did you get blood work done? You might think on that. I’ve had just about every tick disease out there and they blood work identified which ticks. You don’t always get the rings.
      Keep updates. 🙏

That is true, I had lyme (and almost certainly a co infection, based on my symptoms) and never had the bulls eye.

I didn’t get a blood test, but I really appreciate the advice. I have no fever, so symptoms, and since it came in with the cat (I think) maybe her vet meds killed it? I’m really not sure. I read everyone’s advice and I appreciate it. I’ll watch for symptoms and if I think anything is wrong I’ll get myself to outpatients.

After yesterday’s Eau d’Hadrien (waves at carole), the chilly drizzle here this morning led the hand to Bel Ami, another “if I weren’t so fond of variety I could live with this as a signature” scent in my collection. My newly planted tree welcomes the rain, but it’s washing off all the black spot spray that I just applied to my roses yesterday. Actually, one of the rose bushes seemed to have cured itself, one had to be cut completely back because even the stems had spots, and one (my perpetual problem child) was not exactly healthy but not completely hopeless. I’ve moved their pots around so they’re not quite so closely grouped to keep them from re-infecting each other.

Hi, everyone. I’m wearing White Linen today, just because. I liked it in the late 70s but I never had a bottle until now and I like it more now than I did then, my nose has matured.
Waiting for rain any time today, there’s a cool front moving in and that’s fine with me. The temperature reached 88 here yesterday and I’m just not ready for that yet. And my climbing roses are in full bloom and I love sitting on my porch smelling the scent wafting in the window. Enjoy your day, everyone.

    Good morning 🙂
I am wearing Cartier Rivieres Luxuriance and drinking a cup of green tea.

Today I am picking my daughter up for lunch. This will be the first time she is leaving the house to eat out since giving birth to my sweet granddaughter. It was a difficult childbirth for and finally ended up with an emergency C section. She is taking it slow.

Happy to see her and be with my new granddaughter today.

I love this fragrant trip down memory lane and today I grabbed one of my longtime signatures, L’Artisan Santal. This was one of their early discontued fragrances, not sure why because shouldn’t I have a say in these decisions???

    Hello.
One of my signature, totally unbeknownst to me is LVEB. I will admit I do like it and it’s flankers very much but I try to be restraint with it because it’s nuclear. One colleague said to me once “I smelled a trail of perfume in the corridor and I knew it was you!” I hope she liked the scent because I dare not ask. 😅

Eris Parfums Mx. today which is definitely a contender for a cool weather signature (and the weather today is cooperating). And also enjoying coffee and carrot cake for breakfast (thanks to my lovely daughter-in-law).

Spent all day yesterday with two of our grandkids (2 year old and 5 1/2 month old) and boy did I sleep well last night! 😀

I think my nose sometimes goes off and becomes an unreliable narrator. Sotd IA How to Say Bicycle in French again, and it smells completely different. Like it much more but not FB worthy unlike Fox in the Flowerbed.

Btw I went to re-spritz some more Every Storm a Serenade yesterday but instead switch to FM Angeliques Sous la Pluie. It was a good layering- I’m going to try it again.

Well, now I’m going to have to FB the IA HTSBIF because my aunt told me I smelled good when I hugged her this afternoon. I’ve hugged her at least once a day every day since 1/1 (easy because she lives next door and I see her all the time) when I joined NST and vowed to wear fragrance everyday this year. So that’s like 150 opportunities to remark on my scent, but no comment until today.

I see Edmund White has died, sad news. I’m currently reading Jacinda Ardern’s memoir which came out this week. It’s written for a USA market so has less mention of local politics/ Covid response etc. than I would like but it’s interesting all the same, and she is an engaging writer. An emphasis on kindness etc. gives it an almost-‘inspirational/ uplifting’ tone. I’m enjoying it. Wearing Maggie Noire, a perfume I wore often as a late teen , alongside Opium, Boucheron, etc. it was quite easy having a signature scent when you didn’t have much money, or access to a lot of choice. Perfume here was restricted to the main cosmetic brands, really.

Why would it be written for an American market? (Serious question, I can’t imagine why it would be, but my own comment policy hampers a full explanation of why that confuses me. Ha.)

It’s a much bigger market. Sales in the US would exceed those in NZ quite easily, especially with good marketing and an emphasis on female leadership, kindness and empowerment rather than local politics.

Bigger market for sure, just would not think she would necessarily gear her writing for the US…there is the whole rest of the world, much of it more welcoming I would have thought. At any rate I wish her luck!

Well, I’ve been absent from commenting (and caught up reading NST on Monday) because my partner broke his ankle skateboarding (!!!) home from work on Friday afternoon. He just decided to pick up skateboarding as an in-shape 41 year old a few months ago and has been practicing in our apartment. This was only his second time skateboarding partway home from work. The break was a
displaced trimalleolar fracture so all three bones in the ankle were broken and basically dislocated. Friday was a very intense night in the ER of our busiest trauma hospital. Funny enough, this hospital was the basis for the hospital in Gray’s Anatomy. Anyway, the medical care there was amazing. They reset his ankle back into place right there in the ER that night, then he was admitted and had surgery Saturday morning to get his bones put back together with metal plates. He was released from hospital on Sunday early afternoon.

Needless to say it’s been a whirlwind around here and a tiring weekend. I was able to get a knee scooter for him from my manager, and he’s been doing ok on that and his crutches. His manager dropped off his laptop so he can work from home. I took a sick day Monday to have time to sleep in then get groceries, do laundry, get the plaster washed out of his pants from the splint they made in the ER, get dishes done, etc. He normally does so much around here, including pretty much all of our meals, so it’s been a lot to adjust to. But we’re getting there!

Perfume wise I’m in Ariose by Fūm, which I love so much, and would be happy to be remembered by.

Thanks, allo! We’ll just do our best over here, and that will be good enough. 😉

Wow that must have been so painful! I’m glad the surgery part is done with. Will be thinking of you in the days ahead, be sure to take care of yourself too.

Yes, it looked very painful, but he was really a trooper. He has a pretty high pain threshold and everyone in the hospital commented on how cool, collected, easy, and undemanding he was. I think his nurses really liked him.

Thank you for the well wishes!

Rainy and much cooler today, a good day for a cozy and warm scent. My choice is Vanille Divine Des Tropiques from La Maison de La Vanille’s ‘ All Vanillas of the World’ collection, a sweet and warm combo of vanilla and white flowers. Four of these fragrances from this collection were gifted to me by a generous perfumista from another fragrance website years ago who said they were too sweet and powdery for her but she knew I would enjoy them. And she was so right!👍

It’s also a perfect scent to celebrate the female half of my grandtwins’ graduation tonight. She is a very sweet, warm and caring person, and I know she will definitely make the world a better place and am so proud to call her my granddaughter!🥰

    Off to hug 😻😻😻!

Wearing Cristalle, my first grown-up perfume. My 100 ml bottle is slowly being used, and it might be the last bottle of it that I buy.

I am wearing CSP Aloha Tiare today. I will be doing some intense stretches later because everything feels tight and I have no idea why.

I can’t remember, but its Lush, ha!

I’m trying to decide the best avenue to sell off the majority of my collection, because I am pretty much a loyal Lush fiend. And I need dough to justify the vintage formulas and the newer bottles.

We should be getting that shower gel in soon, Robin.
If anyone likes Mr. Wallet Body Spray, the Father’s Day SG is the same scent. Tramp lovers, Botomancy scrub is the same scent as SuperTramp.

Lots I can’t tell, but wow! I love working there. Even the garbage smells good, lol.

I’ve been too tired from work this week to post, but finally catching some air now. SOTD is Amouage Imitation. It’s been getting rather warm but my attempts at wearing some summer freshies have left me totally unsatisfied. I’m still craving heavier stuff, just at very light doses.

I managed to hug Teflon kitty right before posting this. Wasn’t sure she would let me do that, since I have been putting drops in her ears recently and she isn’t too sure about my motives for getting close.

Got a break from chilly, rainy weather today. But more unsettled weather is in the forecast until this weekend. Nice timing, huh?

I remember thunking at least 3 bottles of Love’s Baby Soft back in the day. I also had rollerballs of Love’s Rain and Love’s Jasmine. That last one might have been the start of my fondness for jasmine.

SOTD = back in Amouage Bracken Woman. It smells better to me in cool, wet weather.

Today my daughter and I met a Cat and it’s owner in a store. ( an emotional support animal) the owner was super nice but the Cat was super protective and kept hissing at us when we got to close.

I’ve seen some store cats before. They were usually rather shy.

Very interesting, I’d never heard of a cat used as an emotional support animal.

What do you think of Bracken woman? I’m SO fascinated by it, it’s like nothing I’ve sniffed. It’s got clashing notes that keeps me mentally interested. Very glad I got a sample.

I like it a lot. I’m getting incense and patchouli in about equal proportions. But it is definitely a cooler weather perfume for me. It loses something when the temperatures rise.

Aww. Teflon. Your intentions are good.
And perfume choice is classic. I can sniff it by memory. I’m gonna hop to my vintage stash to see which ones I have.

Teflon eventually decides that I am OK. It’s just a bummer that she is wary of me in the first place.

I can still remember what Love’s Rain smells like.

I wore Devotion today because I love it. I think it’s pretty close to be a signature at this time. I wear it a few times a week.
I have to be to work at 5am tomorrow for the dreaded inventory. Ugh.
I’m hoping to be sleeping shortly 🤞
