We're marking the end of May and the beginning of June (don't forget to rabbit first thing on Sunday!) with our standard open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, your favorite scented body products for summer, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…
Note: the Roses and Rabbits Oval Tray from Avenida Home is $44 at Gourmet Girls.
A beautiful morning here, what madtowngirl calls a bluebird of a day. I have to run errands for mom and spend time with her today. For soft classy citrus, I chose Gabrielle Essence over Jergens sweet citrus body cream. 🍊🍋
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, NST.
Now that sounds like a nice combination. I love both of those. I bet they blend well together.
It’s just the summer citrus combination I was looking for 👍
Love a bluebird day! Enjoy!🌞
👋 hi, nice to see you!
👋nice to see you too!😁
A glorious morning here in the Valley. I’m still scented from last night with Bel Ami from Hermes, but I’m already thinking about what to wear later today. (Leaning towards Homage à l’homme from Lalique.)
A week of travel to the east coast ahead – visiting my mom and sisters, and then attending my college reunion – a first for me, as I haven’t been back to campus since 1987. Excited, and a bit apprehensive, what with the memories that will come flooding back.
Wishing everyone a lovely last day of May.
Bel Ami is so wonderful.
Have a great time at the reunion!
I hope the reunion goes well. Will your photographs be on display? Hope it all goes well.
Thanks! Yes, the exhibit opens on Friday, and runs all summer, which is pretty cool.
The project definitely rekindled my connection with my classmates, most of whom I didn’t know before photographing them. To be honest, I’m not sure I would be attending if it hadn’t been for these portraits. It’s been so long since I’ve returned to campus that my attachment to the place has lessened over time. Now, though, I’ve got lots of (new) friendly faces to be on the lookout for.
Do let us know if the exhibit is online anywhere!
and hope it is a great reunion.
Daniel have a fabulous and fragrant time with your family and your reunion! Hope your photographic project is a raving success and a must-see during the reunion. May you have memorable olfactory moments with new perfumistas and perfumisters you ‘ll be running into!
Many thanks, dear LesLiesse. Not sure how many perfumistas I’ll be running into, but (being the perfume evangelist that I am,) you know I’ll be trying to recruit a few susceptible souls along the way.😊
Can’t believe it’s already the end of May! The lilacs pretty much exploded yesterday, great masses of them everywhere, so of course when walking by some I had to grab a big double handful and bury my nose in them. (I’d had a sneak preview — we were in Le Havre, France, about six weeks ago and they were already in bloom there.) One of the greatest evanescent pleasures in life.
I’m in Guerlain Mitsouko today because I felt like it.
I can’t believe it either. May was not very May-like, weather-wise. Hope June is better!
Lilacs long gone here, sadly. Peonies are everywhere!
My lilacs have miraculously hung in for 3 weeks, the longest I can ever remember! And pink buds on my peonies are showing.
That is a miracle!
I’m in Azemour this morning for no reason other than that it’s been awhile and I adore it. Hey, question for the rose growers out there — is there a relatively simple, non-toxic treatment for roses with a black spot infestation? Mine are in pots but the pots are grouped together, and I don’t know which of them got it first, but they’re sharing the wealth, as it were. Grrr.
I think that if you don’t want to use sprays ( which I don’t) the only thing you can really do is keep collecting and disposing of fallen infected leaves, to prevent spores travelling. In autumn prune back hard. Some people use baking Soda or Sulfur sprays but I don’t know how effective they are. The Sulfur coats the leaves creating a barrier. Not sure what else you can do.
Thank you — I’ll try the baking soda idea. I don’t mind spraying as long as it’s just a soap solution or something else non-toxic that won’t hurt me if a sudden gust of wind gets the spray on me. My roses aren’t usually so needy, but this year it seems they’re getting every affliction possible.
I’m in Dune.🧡 I love this perfume. When I got my bottle I only got 30 mls, but when it’s gone I will definitely replace it with a bigger bottle next time.
It’s on theme with the 90s nostalgia I’ve been into lately. From my playlists on Spotify to watching Northern Exposure at night. Life was simpler back then. For any other fans of the show, have you seen there’s a new podcast called Northen Disclosure?!
We are out of the air alert here but it’s still a little overcast. Hoping the sun burns through.🌞
I tried Dune for the first time last night. Can’t believe I haven’t smelled it before this. I got a blast of the mandarin orange and then it settled down. It’s nice.
It really is, and I think it doesn’t necessarily feel dated. Hope they keep making it.
I love Dune, too. I got a BUB before I was half-thru the first, afraid it would be re-formulated like so many others if I waited too long. My first bottle is almost gone and I’m so glad I have another in waiting.
I decided to go with Kai Body Butter and Kai Parfum. Love this and it reminds me of summer.
I should look at the body butter, I do kind of miss Kai. Reminds me of summer too!
You’ve got me layering too now Kris! But not today’s it’s laundry day, but no Laundry Day- just IA How to Say BIF.
Los Angeles is awash is flowering Jacarandas.
Post shower SOTD will be a few sprays of Bal D’afrique.
Rabbits tomorrow!
The jacarandas sound beautiful. Have a lovely day.
Thanks for the rabbits reminder!
Aren’t our jacarandas glorious? One of the highlights of spring in LA!
Rabbit rabbit rabbit and it’s a cold start to June: gale force winds and rain, and bone chilling. The poor graveyard rabbits will be huddled under the broken graves for warmth. I stayed home yesterday ( where it was warm) and watched the weather through the windows, and the seagulls riding the gusts. I didn’t go to the Phoenician Scheme but rewatched the short Wes Anderson Roald Dahl movies on streaming and enjoyed them, especially Ralph Fiennes rat catcher. Not sure what today will bring as it’s still a bit blustery and uninviting. I’m looking for a honey scent . Any suggestions? Wearing Mitsuoko, a puffer jacket, a beanie in bed with the dog warming my toes. Lifestyles of the rich and famous!!
Cozy up Kanuka!
Slumberhouse Kiste
L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse
Serge Lutens Chergui
Dior Mitzah
Thanks. Good tips.
Zoologist Bee and Hiram Green’s Slowdive are intensely honey – I’ve been dithering over them for years.
I think you gave me a sample of Bee years ago and I’ve been thinking of it ever since. This might be the year!
Seconding Slowdive.
JPG Scandal has honey, and might be easy to test at a department store.
You sound perfectly roasty toasty !
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
This may very well be my SOTD all day everyday for the week. I may be able to finish my bottle this year! 🤞 Also, there may NOT be an IG post all week because I have enough No.19 EDP posts already but of course, who knows?
Have a great weekend everyone!
1 more post wouldn’t hurt anything 😀
I tried Aldebaran yesterday, the new one from Marc Antoine Barrois, and my finances are pleased that I don’t like it. If you like tuberose, this might be for you, I find it a tricky note. Aldebaran has great longevity, I can still detect the 3pm spray on my arm this morning at 8am.
I can also report back on my comparison of Indigo Smoke and Russian Tea. They are very much in the same family, as they dry down Russian Tea is a clearer and sharper tea scent and Indigo Smoke is a bit sweeter and softer. I don’t need both, but I’d be tempted by Russian Tea at the right price.
It’s a long weekend – yay for no work on Monday!
Thank you for the comparison! I have some Indigo Smoke and couldn’t remember the Russian Tea.
I’m currently unscented as I’m beginning to pack for a trip back home early next week. It will be a fun week with my sister; I’m looking forward to it. My nephew is getting married next weekend so I’m trying to decide on an appropriate fragrance for that day. Nothing “too” much!
Contenders are La Pausa, Prada Infusion d’Iris absolu and Bronze Goddess. I should also take along lovely body creme in BG or my Chanel lotion in Paris-Venise so it can serve double-duty. As you can probably sense, I’m the worst overpacker; I can never make up my mind so I end up with too many things. I have to learn to limit myself, but it’s a work in progress.
I haven’t smelled the abolu version but I love the Prada iris pick
Sorry I meant absolu -not what I wrote above 🙂
It’s such a beautifully understated scent. I remember wearing it at a big family party a few years ago and thought “who smells so good?” It might just make the cut. Thank you for your input!
I have the original, and I love it. 🥰
I am sure whichever you pick you will smell beautiful.
Sisters! Weddings!
Have a wonderful visit!
Thank you! I sure will!
Have a great time!
Thank you lillyjo! I will. She’s the one who hates my carrot seed oil; she actually recoiled when she smelled it! ..lol. I was so sure she’d love it like I do! I had to buy the bottle off of her.
I am in Roja Dove’s Mischief for my SOTD.
It smells like a floral vintagy perfume after OF mentioned Gio by Giorgio Armani / Divine perfume yesterday and I wanted a perfume that shared their classic floral character. Though it’s been so long since I smelled Gio so what do I know!
Farmers market, horse lesson, several coffees and reading. I will remember my rabbits tomorrow
That sounds like a perfect Saturday.
Joining apsara in Bal d’Afrique. I’ve been testing Diptyque’s L’Eau Papier the last couple of days. Seems like it should be right up my alley and at first, it is. Then after a bit, I smell ambroxan creeping in and changing the soft creamy smell I was getting before into something sharper and acidic. I assume I would have a similar problem with the hair mist? The last store where I looked was out of the mist so I couldn’t check. Any thoughts from you all?
Did not try the Papier and that did not sound appealing!
Relaxing with a cup of ginger peach tea and watching the ballgame after a couple of hours of weed-pulling. What made that bearable was bright 🌞 on a cool, breezy day and what appears to be at least 2 other pairs of wrens nesting in my yard besides the ones outside my kitchen window. They sing all day and their beautiful song lifts my ❤️!
My SOTD is AG Eau de Charlotte, probably my favorite Goutal and definitely a spring favorite. White florals mixed with cacao and vanilla seems an odd combo but smells wonderful to me.
We’re headed out in a little while to the first of the season’s Farmer’s Market After Dark – a different set of vendors from the daytime ones, food trucks, and tonight’s outdoor concert features a local country music band. No cooking for me tonight and love those outdoor concerts 🎶!
Happy weekend to all!
I haven’t smelled the one you are wearing but I am sure it’s delightful. Goutal is one of my favorite houses
I like many of them, too, and like you, I love Songes, even tho I don’t usually like white florals. I loved it from the first time I tested it.
I love Eau de Charlotte, and I agree with you-it’s perfect for spring! That joyful kick of blackberry and lily of the violet. I have a much older bottle and a brand new bottle, and I think they smell exactly the same.
Mine is an older bottle, too, and I bought a BUB awhile ago, too, so I’m hoping when I need to use it, it will smell just as good.
Heure Exquise was one i loved from the house and I believe it was discontinued- wish I bought a bottle.
Passion, Quel Amour!- these were chopped as well.
Lovestosmellgood-you’re right-I didn’t know about the recent discontinuations. I love this house and wish all their scents were still available. I loved their Tubereuse and would have bought some, if I knew they were disappearing. Myrrhe ardent, too.
Your evening sounds wonderful!
It was wonderful. Very heart-warming to see the whole community turn out; families with little kids, groups of teens, even oldsters like us. The country band was great as they always are, and the earlier band was really special, recent graduates of our local high school who are now college students, and they even played and sang some classic rock songs that we of their grandparents’ generation really enjoyed.
That sounds like a really special night, Laila.
Hello everybody!
I’m hoping you all are well and preparing for some summer fun, adventure, relaxation or whatever it is you have planned.
For me, it will be mostly work this summer but that’s ok. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
In a very rare occurrence for me, I ordered a few perfume samples from Luckyscent, amongst which, the new Neela Vermeire Eshal. I very much like and wear most of her creations and I was so curious about this one that I almost blind bought a full bottle (the price was a good deterrent).
Well, I’m wearing it today for the first time and I’m sad to report that it is not for me. I’m also glad I didn’t follow my initial impulse to buy “ a large sample” (as Hajusuuri would say).
I find it too green, too bitter (galbanum?) for the first few hours and then it becomes sort of a mild, slightly vanillic tuberose.
It reminds me so much of Vero Kern’s Mito.
I haven’t seen any comments here about it. Has anyone else tried it? What did you think of it?
Be well, all!
I haven’t tried it, but wanted to wave hello 👋
Hello Lillyjo, you’re always so sweet! 🥰
I hope the power is back on and if it isn’t, I hope they gave you the day off.
I want to second Adanst that lillyjo is always so sweet!!!
Have not tried that new Neela Vermeire, but happy to see you posting!
Hope that things have been going well for you.
Thank you, Jalapeno. Cannot complain (although, God knows, I do 😀).
I hope you and your family are well.
I am wearing Un Bois Vanille for a cool, overcast day. Yesterday it was 87F and I swapped my winter clothes for spring ones in the closet and changed the bedding to the summer weight duvet. I am all prepared for hot weather and today is in the mid-60s…
It’s 64 here today and tomorrow will be in the 80’s.
There’s one week per year where almost everything blooms at once, and it’s this week. All the crabapple trees, three different kinds of lilacs, azaleas, some final tulips, and best of all-the backyard is full of lily of the valley. Oh, and linden are starting to blossom. The whole yard buzzes with bees. I try to enjoy as much as possible cause it’s so beautiful and so fleeting. Today was cold and rainy but I stayed on the verandah sniffing the air. I wore Musc Ravageur which is kind of a funny scent for summer but it suited the chilly air and I love its dry down. I know it’s supposed to be sexy and all that but I don’t think it is on me.
It doesn’t smell sexy on me either.
Enjoy those fragrant blossoms while you can. That’s what we had here about a month ago. Now everything is green, green, green, – still beautiful even without blossoms – but the roses and peonies are just about ready to burst into bloom and scent the June air.
I’m at work and the power is out. I think it’s due to construction. They say it should be back on in about an hour. I have been wearing Laura Mercier Almond Coconut all weekend. I have to get in my Summer perfumes while I can.
I forgot my rabbits again.
I have some extra rabbits for you.
I will take them. Thanks!
Did the power ever come back on for your work?
Rabbits and Encens Mythique
Smelling wonderful!
I remembered my rabbits and have some extras for those that need them.
I am continuing with my summer theme today. BBW At the Beach Body Wash and Body Cream and EL Bronze Goddess Nuit. You should all be able to smell my coconut wherever you may be😉
Very smokey today and advisories are out to stay inside.
Coconut twins!
Now I know why I was craving a pine colada! Coconut is sublime!
Forgot my rabbits today but wearing some Coco Mademoiselle Intense today.
You smell great Dawn!
Remembered to rabbit just after midnight — I was awake finishing Remarkably Bright Creatures which I had borrowed from my local library. Loved it so much that I instantly went and ordered a hardbound copy. That does not happen often! Sunday SOTM is Bucoliques de Provence.
Isn’t that a great book? I loved it. I read it a couple years ago on a recommendation from a friend.
So good! This afternoon I recommended it to my dad, whose assisted living building has a pretty darn good little library. If he can remember why he jotted that title down (not a sure thing, sadly), I would expect they’ll have a copy or two that he can borrow.
I ventured out to the movies to see the Phoenician Scheme yesterday which I enjoyed more than I thought I would. Not as good as early Wes Anderson but better than some, with some really beautiful shots. The storyline is a bit repetitive as it involves the main character going around several family members, asking each one for money but the acting was good, especially Michael Cera who was excellent. It made me laugh and I’m glad I saw it. Wearing a dash of Bracken this morning for King’s Birthday public holiday
Oh good. I will see it eventually.
Forgot my rabbits!
Sotd IA How to Say Bicycle in French (how fast was that ordering from me?).
Herbal, 2nd wearing, verdict still out.
Bought a series of samples: Every Storm a Serenade, Falling into the Sea, Fox in the Flowerrbed, Sundrunk. Only tried Bicycle thus far.
Also hit Lush in person last week. I thought the Sleepy shower gel and body lotion weren’t doing much. However when I scanned my Oura tags for both, I did sleep deeper and longer when I used them. Also got some Happy Hippy gel.
Day 33 of hospice, which is a miracle but it’s been cruel long physically and emotionally. I want so much to respond to the many fascinating, witty, uplifting comments. 🤞I’ll be able to! In the meantime to quote an upbeat BFF of mine, Happy Everything Good!
Grueling not cruel long
Cruel long fits too. Unfortunately.
That went right over my head at first but you’re absolutely right lillyjo!
Lillyjo is right. “Cruel long” is all too apropos.
The only fragrance I really liked from IA was Fox in the Flowerbed and that one I love. A lot of people on this site like several others from IA, but I haven’t really found a love for any of the others. That is why it is good we all have different tastes.
I don’t have a Lush store around me so have to order online. My favorites in the cooler months are Sticky Dates and Rose Jam Shower Gels. I don’t know about that place near as much as others here.
Hope your hospice woes end soon. I wish you could find a reliable agency. Take care my friend.
I think I got my private caregivers squared away, so this week I’m working on replacing hospice companies. 🤞🙏
I hope you enjoy every perfume spray and single every day!! Sending all good vibes, prayers and hugs.
Stay strong.
🤗
I did not realize it had been that many days already. That is exhausting I am sure.
The Happy Hippy will perk you up I hope 🙂
It did this morning! Plus I ate some fresh tangerines with breakfast. Good nutrition helps with the stress!
Day 3 on my summer theme since it is going to be very warm here today. SOTD is Chanel Paris-Deauville.
You smell gorgeous Kris! At your recommendation, I’m wearing Fox in the Flowerbed. Unlike HTSBIF, I loved this immediately.
I knew you would like it!
You were right !
I would add how can I not love a fragrance inspired by a fox falling in-love with a butterfly?🦋
Good luck dealing with the heat and the yucky air quality today!
Good morning! SOTD is FM Iris Poudre and a white tshirt 🙂
also, Happy Pride Month!
Of course, you smell fantastic.
You smell marvelous!
🌈🌈🌈!
I hate to see the month of May end. It has mostly been a great month. I became a grandmother for the second time in May. Baby girl is now a week and a half old.
Such a blessing.
Today I am wearing Bvlgari au The Bleu and drinking my second cup of Russian Country tea.
Mazel tov!
How lovely! Congrats to you and the lucky parents.
Sotd IA Fox in the Flowerbed
Love it!
Any recommendations on scented sugar scrubs? Used up last of my coconut & hibiscus ahead butter last night.!I’m intrigued by Josie Marin’s Topless Tangerine & Vanilla Vibezz sugar scrubs. Has anyone tried them?
Wishing you all a peaceful week!
I tend to use sugar scrubs that I have easy access to in drugstores or grocery stores. I have used Tree Hut quite a bit and recently started using a citrus one from Dr. Teal’s. There are tons out there and I am sure others have a much larger selection and are more knowledgeable than I am on this subject.
Normally I do too, but the Josie Maran caught my eye. I didn’t know Dr Teal had anything other than soaks. Will check out. I was looking to go more exotic with fragrance although I enjoyed the coconut & hibiscus while it lasted.
I think jalapeno has tried the JM scrub. I know she likes the body butter.
I have a sample of the JM Vanilla Vibezz sugar scrub, but have not used it. Part of my skincare routine involves an alpha hydroxy lotion, so a physical scrub is not a good idea.
Lillyjo is correct, though; I now have 5 of the Josie Maran travel size body butters.
Do you have a preference on the fragrances?
I use the unscented one on my hands all the time. Can’t deal with scented lotions there. 😉
3 of the scented ones I enjoy at different times of the year. Right now I have Topless Tangerine on deck for late Spring/early Summer. Back in March I was enjoying Vanilla Vibezzz.
I haven’t tried their latest scent yet, which is Golden Hour.
Thanks for the review!
Popping by on my Tuesday morning to say that I’m wearing Suleyman Le Magnifique from Fort and Manle. Monday was a holiday for King’s Birthday, and the long weekend was over way too quickly!
They always are, right? Sorry it’s over.
Left the house in a strong dose of Diptyque Vetyverio EdP and am still loving it.
🙂
June in my garden means roses and peonies and strawberries, and since I like to be in harmony with nature outside my window, my fragrance theme for June is roses, peonies and strawberries! My SOTD is Cacharel Noa Fleur with its notes of – guess what – rose and peony! I got this one on clearance long ago at my local supermarket and it’s a nice combo to begin the fragrant month of June.
Today I cut some beautiful red roses and pink peonies to scent my home, and we picked the first ripe strawberry just the other day. We’ve already picked lots of lettuce and radishes.
Hazy from the Canadian wildfire and temps in the 80’s today. Going up to 90 degrees tomorrow but then getting back to cooler temps after that.
Wishing all a wonderful week ahead!🌹🌸🍓
Sorry to say June in my garden seems to mostly mean WEEDS…I bet your garden looks lovely. It’s so nice to have peonies you can cut!
Oh, Robin, I, too, have plenty of WEEDS, more so than in a long time. We don’t use chemicals and are trying to use more natives but it’s really hard to keep up. When I moved here decades ago there was very little left of what was once a nice garden. The peonies were one of the few plants + lots of hostas. We moved the peonies and split the hostas and they have thrived. I would guess the peonies are 50 years old and still bloom beautifully each June!
Nice! I had some lovely peonies planted underneath a maple tree when I bought my house, and they are not moveable because of the tree roots and they got weaker every year and this year did almost nothing. I should have planted my own peonies right away, along with the wisteria that would now be gorgeous…
Laila, your garden sounds enchanting and what fabulous fragrance- strawberries, roses and peonies!
