Wednesday scent of the day 5/28

Posted by Robin on 28 May 2025 100 Comments

It’s Hump Day and National Hamburger Day. Birthdays: Walker Percy, Maeve Binchy, Gladys Knight. What fragrance are you wearing?

Today I'm doing green, in Etat Libre d’Orange You or Someone Like You.

Reminder: 5/30 will be Rainbow Friday...wear something that makes you think of your favorite color. Bonus points if the color is in the name! Suggested by pyramus.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Lush’s new Hello Kitty and Friends. Starts of with cotton candy Snow Fairy-ish sweetness and in about 5-10mins it becomes an aldehyde soapy fresh scent, which lasts for 1.5hrs before disappearing. The lasting power is pretty pathetic but it’s fun while it lasted.
I also bought the shower gel. Smells like condense milk, cotton candy and the same fresh white soap. Doesn’t linger after shower. Short-lived fun seems to be the theme here.

Today I’m in Carnation from the CdG Red collection, and it’s red, all right. And durable! I put a little on last night before bed as is my habit, and this morning I could still smell that spicy goodness close to the skin. The carnation is my favourite flower and this is my favourite soliflore.

Mmmm, you smell great, pyramus, and you’ve given me an idea. Tomorrow I shall wear CdG Sequoia, also from the Red Series. I’d forgotten about that one. I guess I do have some frags after all with red in the name, or the extended name, or the name of the line.

Love the photo Robyn, and I cherish my wonderful orange cats who have crossed the rainbow bridge. We’ve had two of them over the years and they live on in our hearts, they were so cuddly and also doglike and would groom us and our dog and would follow us on walks. RIP Nosy and Tomasina. And condolences to those here who have recently lost beloved furry family members.
The CP is giving me conniptions because I can’t think of any fragrances I currently own that have a color in the name but I need to think harder because I’m sure I do.
For now I’m wearing L’Occitane’s Immortelle del Corse, from a very generous NSTer who sent me some (thank you). This is a fragrance that reads ‘yellow’ to me, and not only because the flower is yellow.
If I had any Sarrasins, I’d wear that this week in a nod to TheRabbitsFlower’s creative approach to the CP. So purple it will stain your shirt.
Happy Wednesday to all you good-smelling people.

The kitty I recently lost was also an orange cat, well, orange and white. You are right they are absolutely the best, loving, cuddly, and uniquely friendly. I miss him so much. Don’t forget that there are lots of colors in French in perfume names, e.g., blanche, rouge, verte, et noir. And there’s always L’Heure Bleue!

Oh! You are right. I certainly do have L’Heure Bleue!! Just gave away the last of my Vent Vert though. Thank you Calypso. All cats are sweet and lovely, but we who have loved the marmalade beasties share membership in the orange cat appreciation society.

I love orange cats (hope my current beast is wearing ear muffs-she’s a long haired tabby). SOTD is a very generous amount of Celine Cologne Celeste, plus a small amount of Rose Tonnerre on the ankles. I love colognes and this is one of the first properly warm days this year.

I forgot my cell phone at home and I’m enjoying the freedom from that little device. Could be the start of a new habit.

Carole, your post makes me realize that it’s quite possible to ‘cheat’ on this CP by wearing any perfume that has ‘rose’ in the name, as it’s a color as well as a flower. Woot!

    Kitty!!! 😻

I am wearing Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate. Scarlet or crimson in English, right? Anyway, it is a bright and assertive scent, and I needed it for hosting a Teams meeting for work for the first time. The call was with just one person, but I still was nervous – not used to hosting calls, new project with a new position etc. It went well enough.

It’s cool and rainy and I decided to claim points in Lutens Gris Clair. I have to be in the mood for it since it is a journey and it lasts all day, but it is perfect for both the weather and my overall outlook today, lol. It seems to me like it’s been raining all the time lately but according to the weather people, we are very low in annual rainfall because of the lack of snow in January and February. I miss the sun today.

Good morning! After getting some more sleep, I am feeling more alert, and can report back on the Fragonard. The edp of the Encens Feve Tonka is very close to the soap version, which is great (& btw the soap lasts for ages). It is a cuddly, autumn scent, so I will be putting it away for a few months.

Oh, and the Fragonard shop itself was too cute! It’s actually about half&half scented items and household items, like embroidered table napkins and glass plates.

Finally, since I am now more awake, I will add the last perfume I’d bought: the LE Nicolai Muguet. It’s pleasant but not that far from, say, the Coty, but I was in one of their stores in Paris, during the right month, it was a good price, and the SAs were thrilled that I was thrilled to be there.

Oh, and a muguet is always white…

Looks like some of Jalapeño’s weather has reached us, but fortunately no storms, just some much-needed rain for the next couple of days. A welcome relief from weeding, my back thanks the rain!🙏

I didn’t choose my SOTD with the cp in mind (or Robin’s choice) but it fits somewhat. Though it’s not my favorite color, I do enjoy green. And since the spring bulbs and shrubs are, for the most part, done blooming, everywhere I look outside I see green, green, green – trees, shrubs, grass. A beautiful sight – and a good reason to wear Balmain’s Vent Vert, which is my favorite ‘green’ fragrance. 🌳🌲🌿🍃🌱

Robin, here’s a suggestion for a cp related to this week’s but one that might be a bit more challenging: wear a fragrance you like but that reminds you of your least favorite, or seldom worn, color.

    Happy halfway-to-the-weekend!

Hi fragrant friends, back from east coast and visiting my sister. Her grandaughter’s HS graduation was lovely.
We had a great visit. The weather was so hot and humid, am always glad to get back to LA and take a deep breath of air when I land.

My last kitteh was an orange boy, named Skye. He was a senior kitteh who lost his elderly human.

Calypso, before that one I adopted a 9 year old Cornish Rex who had no teeth and no claws on any of her paws.

She had been turned in to a shelter and a Cornish Rex breed group grabbed her. Her family could not afford any medical support for her.

She came home with me that day. Less than five pounds and a talker. Her name was Sabrina and when she had a stroke a few years later, I held her while she went to sleep.

Cornish Rexes are just amazing kittehs.

I’m wearing Indigo Smoke. It’s not my favorite color, but indigo dyes do make for some beautiful clothes. And I like the scent, and our weather is gray and rainy and COOL–unusual for us to be still in the 70s after noon here (well, it’s 79, but I’ll count it!). I’m trying to decide whether to risk things by going to the grocery store–more rain and thunderstorms are forecast, but my refrigerator is almost completely bare, and so are my cupboards.

SotD Obsession Cologne Spray. After my morning’s tasks, it seemed appropriate and, for me, the burgundy color of the cap matches the scent. What were my morning’s tasks, you may ask? Saying goodbye to an old obsession: Franciscan dishes, in particular a large set of “Autumn Leaves” collected over many years. I have obsessed on and collected so many Franciscan patterns like “Ivy,” “Starburst,” “Woodlore,” and “Picnic.” But even with no plans of going minimalist, I (mostly) felt that keeping one (service for 12) set of china was enough for two people who seldom entertain! “Ivy” won out, and it has gone into daily use. Our local history center is having their annual fundraiser, and I thought that event was the most likely to showcase my treasures so that they find a good home. Honestly, it cast a bit of a gloom to let it go, and today’s weather is gloomy, too. I think I will feel better after a while, as there is still plenty of china left to display and *dust* Chez Mossy. 🙂

I’m of a like mind: orange is underrated as a color. I have even heard people use it as a term of derogation–“ooh, yuck, it’s ORANGE!”. I guess maybe it was overused in, what, 70s design–orange shag carpets, orange refrigerators, etc.? Since I do like orange as a color, I was trying to think of perfumes to coordinate. You’ve made a nice choice there. I’d think that Eau or Elixir des Merveilles would work well, too. Not to mention, Azemour les Orangers!

Smoothie is two white nectarines, the first this season for me, they’re from Spain.

This morning I picked LVEB extrait as it is a cool, grey day. Tonight it’s Berdoues Vanira Moorea which may be my favorite of the LDBS genre as it has a freshness from petitgrain, it’s underrated, I also have 30ml of Oriana which I also like. I got the delivery of an impressionist painting I purchased. It’s a view of a brook surrender by autumn trees and looks even better in ‘person’. It is signed and dated 1904, the frame is solid wood, gildedand beautiful, I’m quite thrilled, now I have to decide where it will hang.

Thank you so much and I forgot to say, it’s a Scottish landscape. I’m still surprised it turned out quite affordable, less than £50 with free shipping which was remarkably quick, I’m saving the seller.

Their flavor is very delicate and they are very juicy.

Those are a favorite of mine. But I figure I won’t see them until sometime in June.

I could just wait for the Palisade peaches to show up. ZOMG, so so good. 😋

I AGREE! Palisade peaches are the best. I wish I could find them in Chicago, but they do appear in grocery stores in Minnesota around August, so guess when I’ll be going home for a visit? 😉

Wow! Color me surprised that folks out of state know about the Palisade peaches!

Out here, guys just sell them off the backs of trucks or at farmers markets. Sometimes they show up in the grocery stores. Hoping to get a half flat this summer and share with my brother.

It is hot hot hot here, so I’m sitting quietly, sipping ice water, and wearing a new sundress and Cristalle EDT. Stay hydrated, y’all!

Thanks to all for your kind words on Memorial Day! We’ve had a bit of a crisis here as our nighttime cg who works M-F quit with less than 6 hrs notice. I’ve gotten less than 5 hrs sleep last 2 nites as we had a substitute then a first night with hopefully a replacement who will work to the end. Sooo unprofessional. Mr Engineer finally got the nanny cams up for me, and she refused to work with them on.

Sotd Angeliques Sous La Pluie. Wish I had time (and energy)!to celebrate National Hamburger Day properly.

Pretty big red flag if she wouldn’t work with cameras on.
      Wishing you the best LesLiesse!

She wouldn’t work one single night with the nanny cams on! ITA I dodged a bullet. Unprofessional and unreliable!

It’s just so hard on my aunt to see different faces all the time- she thrives in familiarity and consistency. Thank heavens for the day cg M-Sat – it’s been one month and not only has she not missed a single day but she has been 15-30 min early depending on traffic! I paid her a retention bonus, and asked her to tell the other gals that good conscientious work will get a bonus!

The weather is back to cool and rainy. I chose to wear Nahema today.
I think my dog might have an allergy to his newish food. I’m switching it tomorrow to see if there is any change. He’s just been licking a lot and is irritating his skin.

Ooooooof. That does sound like an allergy of some kind.

Just to let you know, that it takes around 6 weeks for a food change to show any difference. Dealt with food sensitivities for a couple of my kittehs.

Thanks for the information. I’m switching him back to his old food, which he did fine with. I should have just stuck with it but I was trying to give him something fancy.

I’m giving Teflon kitty quite a few treats. Sone of them are dental treats, which keep down the tartar on her teeth. Others are just for grins, like the Churu-type treats.

But her food is a brand that works for her, and I am sticking with it.

That orange cat looks like it is floating in that picture. Adorable!

Stormy afternoons seem to be in the forecast for quite a while here. Had a bunch of lightning strike alerts on my cell phone this afternoon. No hail, thankfully.

Picked up Teflon kitty’s new medicine right before the weather got ugly. My timing at the vet could have been better, though. Walked in shortly before some other clients were told that their pet was “gone”. I felt so sorry for those folks.

SOTD = commando, but wearing scented sunscreen on my arms. I’ll be bumping up to SPF60 for the summer…
