Wednesday scent of the day 5/14

Posted by Robin on 14 May 2025 104 Comments

It’s Hump Day. Birthdays: Thomas Gainsborough, Sidney Bechet, George Lucas. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in the second of my two favorite bed time scented lotions: Carina Organics Unscented, liberally doctored with Ylang and Sweet Orange oils. On top of that I'm wearing a dab of a fragrance I would never wear to bed, Aftelier Candide.

Reminder: 5/16 will be Time for Bed Friday...wear a fragrance you normally put on to wear to bed. If you don't usually put on fragrance then, wear a fragrance you normally only wear in the evening or on special occasions? Suggested by NinaV.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is LV eLVes. My third time trying it out and I am pretty sure it’s going on my buy list. Then stupid me had to reach for the Spell On You tester. Now that one’s got me interested too. Adding fuel to the fire is a Fragrantica comment saying Spell On You is being discontinued (anyone can verify?) so I am panicking.

I’m in my recent impulse blind buy purchase BKLYN from Jones Road. This is a bit like Livre Blanc and Missing Person had a baby. So yeah, right up my alley. It wears really close to the skin though. 14 sprays and I can barely smell it. I’ll get through this 30 mls in no time.
I made the 250 mile round trip to collect madtownteen from college yesterday. She’ll be home for 4 weeks until she heads off to her summer camp job. I will enjoy every second she’s home.🥰

Getting ready to take my mom to a doctor’s appointment. Last night and this morning was good and seemed like she was in good spirits until we said she wasn’t going to color her hair today. Then she threw a fit. We shall see how this appointment goes. Wearing Infusion d’iris for a combination of comfort and a little bit of backbone. I am thinking either kielbasa and perogies for dinner or jambalaya. Just trying to set myself ahead.

I hadn’t worn Frapin 1270 for awhile so after mentioning it in yesterday’s post as a fave bed scent, that’s what I chose last night.
It is still whispering faintly this morning. It reminds me of a Lutens lite, with the stewed fruits and spices and woods.
I also love the big heavy bottle that looks like it might hold a fine cognac.

Frapin 1270 is lovely. The extreme version isn’t extreme at all and bears no resemblance to the original.

Sotd The Harmonist Moon Glory. Meant to wear it for the full Flower Moon a few days ago, but didn’t.

Sotd for Mothers Day: Courreges eau de liesse aka The Mothership. Felt grateful all day. Didn’t focus on food, to mixed results (have photos of burned chocolate chip pancakes for proof 🙄🤣). My aunt had a good day spending it with Mom, but we ran the full gamut of emotions which was too much like a roller coaster as we careened up and down.

Looking forward to reading everyone’s scents for bed. I’ve found I do not care for single note lavender much. I r been using Lush Sleepy shower ge and lotion before bed. I believe there’s Oud in it. Don’t think I’ll buy more. Favorite combos mix lavender with orange blossom, eucalyptus or juniper berries. I just ordered from PF Candle the linen spray of Ojai Lavender (Ojai is underrated as a weekend destination in So Cal) and Golden Coast. Supposed to aid sleep.

Happy Hump Day all! Looking forward to Almost Friday tomorrow.

Actually, I made the batter too thick and as Mom insulted them, “How do you burn the outside while undercooking the inside?” They definitely were NOT crepe thickness. Good news- I made lamb chops for dinner (her fav) and they were perfectly cooked.

I’m in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s The Stratosphere, a violet-iris cocktail with a hint of dark cherry.

Off to physical therapy for a (minor, thankfully) knee issue, then back to my desk for some writing! It’s a drizzly day in the NYC area so I might make a big pot of veggie bean chili after that.

We had a wonderful 3-day trip to the Holland MI 🌷 festival – and saw 6 million tulips! – + other attractions including a concert and museum. Came home to find my beloved lilacs waited for me to return before blooming – they’re just opening up now – and all the migrating birds have arrived, including my favorite house wrens. The tiny male sings all day long as he works hard at nest-building. Did you know the male builds several nests and when his mate arrives, she inspects them and chooses the one that best suits her. I ❤️it and hope she chooses the one just outside my kitchen window. 🤞

So now’s the time I enjoy wearing my lilac-centered fragrances. Starting softly, yesterday I wore Gucci Guilty and today EL Pleasures, both gently blended florals with a lilac note. Both very enjoyable as our weather has really warmed up.

Looking forward to tonight’s Classic Film program, The Spy Who Loved Me, including an appearance by the author of several UK Bond novels along with some genuine Bond memorabilia! 📽️🍿

Hope everyone is having a good day! 🐦‍⬛

Holland MI is a fun trip! I love house wrens too and hope yours make a home that you can watch. I didn’t know that the female gets to choose the nest, do other birds take the nests that weren’t chosen? 🧐

Also wondering about nests. We seem to have a “new” empty nest built on top of a front yard trellis, hidden under the eavestrough. I believe this one was built by robins. Possibly “she” rejected that nest as there’s hawks in our area (since it remains unoccupied).

We have several bird houses for wrens that they nest in.. The houses are small with only 1 small entry hole and no perch. It would be difficult for anything bigger than a wren to use the box. I’ve seen house sparrows try unsuccessfully.

The host has a blog that provides a lot of behind-the-scenes info prior to the film; there was an author of some of the UK Bond books; plus a local TV personality introducing everything, as well as numerous props from the Ian Fleming Institute. Apples (from Kent), pears (from Belgium) and yogurt smoothie

The good weather continues 22C, today I picked SL Fleurs de citronnier, a sweet floral lemon, even though it lists tuberose it is not too heady I find but certainly long-lasting. Tonight for the CP it’s one spray of Crown Perfumery Héliotrope as it refuses to spray more than once, not sure why, so I decided to layer it with Outremer Vanille, a simple baking vanilla and this combination is successful and results in almond macaroon.

It is usually posted somewhere for most produce…sometimes in tiny letters on the sticker with the code, sometimes on the shelf, but if you look around you can usually find the origin of the produce…USDA requires stores to post it in the US, anyway.

It is another yucky day again! What can you do? As to NJ Transit, not that the I will give the refund department another call tomorrow and if no response by Tuesday, I will send one more packet and then go from there.

Incense Rose is the first Tauer I had a strong emotional response to.

I’ve heard that NJT is gearing up for a strike later on this week.

Have you thought about writing your congress person about the refund delay?

Heavy rain, gusty wind, and thunderstorms here this afternoon. It’s been going at it for a couple of hours now. VERY glad I made Teflon’s vet appointment for lunchtime, when the weather was still nice.

I have a couple scratches on one arm from trying to get her into the cat carrier but they aren’t bad. Didn’t even break the skin. The good news: Teflon’s bloodwork is normal. The bad news: She has yet another ear infection. Oh, and she has lost more weight. Definitely going to monitor THAT.

SOTD = trying Diane EdP today. It smells lighter than its EdT sibling, which is a little unusual. I’m also not getting the hint of myrrh either.

Your storms are heading my way for tomorrow night. I’m already in the level 3 warning for them.
Glad TK had good news on the blood work.

I copied allo from yesterday and am wearing L’ombre dans L’eau.
The other day I exchanged my Pistachio Glaze at BBW. I only wore it once, and after a few hours I started to feel sick from it. The SA treated me very poorly and I am still mad about it. It was super inexpensive but just thinking about wearing it again turned my stomach.

I was wondering about the Pistachio Glaze. Sorry it made you feel sick! Ugh, and how awful about the SA. Is it worth the effort to speak to the store manager?

I really liked it when I tested it in the store but the drydown turns very baby powder.
The SA was a supervisor it wasn’t so much what he said but the tone. It was very condescending. I don’t usually shop at that location. I will stick with my regular bbw from now on.

Condescending tone is the worst. He must be a miserable person, especially to be in that position. I’m sorry that he treated you like that. Good to go back to your regular location.

HA, I would say the opposite, whenever you want to return something go back to that store, it will serve him right since he obviously hates doing returns.

Sounds like Pistachio Glaze was a bad experience all the way around.

I haven’t been in a BBW in forever.

Yeah, I should have tested it more than once.

I wore Chanel No 5 L’Eau today. I often wear it to bed, it’s cool and not intrusive.
