Tuesday scent of the day 5/13

Posted by Robin on 13 May 2025 123 Comments

It's Tuesday and World Cocktail Day. Happy 75th birthday to Stevie Wonder! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm wearing my newest bedtime favorite: Lush Posh Chocolate Body Lotion. Tea at the moment is Numi Golden Chai; my bedtime tea is always Upton organic ginger root.

Reminder: 5/16 will be Time for Bed Friday...wear a fragrance you normally put on to wear to bed. If you don't usually put on fragrance then, wear a fragrance you normally only wear in the evening or on special occasions? Suggested by NinaV.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’ll be pretty useless for this week’s challenge because my habit for quite a while now has been to 1) pick tomorrow’s scent some time in the evening and 2) spritz some on for a test run because why not. So my bedtime scent is always the one I’ll be wearing tomorrow.

SPEAKING OF WHICH. I said I’d gotten a couple of samples while on vacation: one of them was the acceptable-but-only-that Bleu de Chanel, and the other, which I tried on a few nights ago, was Kenzo Homme Indigo, which I should have known was trouble because the sample’s sleeve listed the notes as “Marine accord, iris, leather”, but hey, I’ll try anything, I’ve been surprised before. And I should have trusted my instincts! It actually made me gag. I couldn’t scrub it off fast enough. A huge blast of that melony, nostril-scraping Calone or one of its horrid offspring mated with a grim, garbagey iris. Obviously there are people who like this sort of thing, but I hope all of them stay well away from me.

Anyway. Today (and last night) I’m in YSL Yvresse because it’s such a sparkling burst of joy. It’s what happiness smells like.

I initially read “cabbagey iris” in your description. Did not make Homme Indigo sound any less unpleasant. Too bad they wasted such a cool bottle on it.

    Hello.
Sotd is MFK Oud Satin Mood. I actually wear the scented body oil version to bed as I shower at night.

You do smell great, and didn’t you have a lot of dental work done, too? Hope you’re feeling 100 percent, very soon 🙂

I did phase 1 of dental work. My next appointment is in June and that is getting more teeth yanked. If I went to a dental school, I would have had all the teeth that needed to be yanked in one sitting. The dentist I have now does that kind of stuff in 2 visits. Still waiting for one part to really fill in.

Great CP which is leading me to deep pondering and analysis about what I reach for and why.
Bed scents are tricky for me as I want to wear something that I know I love and that will soothe and relax me and give me that aaah feeling of being enveloped in a caressing cradle as I drift off.
The danger for me would be testing something unknown, which if I did not like it would jar my senses and leave a bad taste wafting in my nose each time I stirred and perhaps even nightmares. My brain would be too busy dissecting the smell and reacting to it and it would give me unpleasant thoughts and feelings not conducive to sleep. For me it’s almost like activating a ‘fight or flight’ reflex. (What *IS* that smell? It is assaulting my nostrils and invading my person! My nerves are jangled. I must repel the assault, aka scrub it off.)
So…I never test anything new at night and I stick with tried and true beloveds — vanilla scents like Perfect Vanilla from Sarah Horowitz or her Perfect Veil, (soft blended almondy or vanillic musks are the perfect sleep vehicle for me), fragrances with well-blended non-sharp orange notes (Theorema, some older L’Occitanes); amber incensey spicy ones like Ambre Sultan and Frapin 1270 or soft blended musky myrrhs like the rose incensey Parfum Sacre, probably my #1 go to bed scent. “Soft” is a key word for me which I realize is in the eye of the beholder. But I want nothing too prickly, challenging, green, oakmossy, oudy, sharp, or pointy.
Lastly, I know that lavender is supposed to relax people to sleep, but it’s never worked its magic on me, (LesLiesse would fight me on this) I like it well-blended in a fragrance such as Seville A L’Aube, so it’s not something I seek out for bedtime.
I will be very interested to read the bedtime perfume rituals of others. Oh, and last night I wore the last of my AG Myrrh Ardente decant. The soft myrrh settled over me like a weighted blanket.

Yes, I totally get that. I think our brains are so activated to think deeply about fragrance that a new scent can trigger that process and wake us up.

Soft is a key word for me too when it comes to bed scents. I think my top 5 are Gucci Mémoire d’une Odeur, Bulgari Eau Parfumée Thé Vert, Chloe Love, Jour d’Hermès & Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
But sometimes on a hot summer night I wear something green like Diptyque L’ombre Dans L’ Eau.

I don’t wear scent to bed, depending on what is left on my skin from the SOTD, or from my Scent Theory hand wash. So this week I’m just wearing things that I haven’t worn in a while. Today is Jicky edt. Jicky isn’t my favorite Guerlain, mostly because the vanilla note is amplified on my skin, and I dislike vanilla.

Happy Tuesday, everyone. I’m looking forward to celebrating World Cocktail Day this evening.

Heading to the studio today, so I’m keeping a low profile with a spritz of Kenzo Jungle Homme under my shirt. A warm, spicy, underrated gem from Olivier Cresp, which (thankfully) bears no resemblance to the Kenzo described by Pyramus above!

I went with a (cold as the arctic) classic martini, made with Tanqueray 10 gin, a whisper of Dolin dry vermouth, and a twist of fresh lemon peel. Stirred with crushed ice, and served up in a Nick and Nora cocktail glass.

I was still in Kenzo Jungle Homme, which suited the moment just fine.😊

Right now its 50% off since they’re discontinuing it i guess, I’m not sure if I should buy a bottle. If I got the 100 ml it would probably be close to a lifetime supply…

I used to do lavender – but don’t bother anymore.

So, its mostly the dregs of the day on me and my bathrobe.

SOTD post shower will be St. Rose Gypsy Soul. I found this in the back of the Chanel section in my perfume cabinet and it was lovely on me yesterday.

SOTD = April Aromatics Calling All Angels

I don’t wear perfumes in the evening nor do I spray stuff on my bedding (there are very Tara exceptions). In lieu of following the CP, I’ll be wearing incense perfumes or at least the ones that I think has perfume as a note. Today’s perfume is Calling All Angels which I had included in one of my earlier splits. Still great and I enjoy wearing it!

When I go to bed, I tend to dab a little of a sample I’ve been trying. I usually read for a little while before going to sleep, and it gives me an opportunity to really think about a perfume. Like DeniseH, I wouldn’t wear anything I hadn’t tried before.
Last night, I wore a little of Hiram Green’s Tryst, it’s quite a nice orange blossom.
However, today I’m wearing SL’s Baptême du Feu, which arrived yesterday.

I’m not one to wear any scent to bed, as I fear it would distract me or disrupt my sleep. There’s only one I’ve ever done this with, so I’ll save that until Friday. My SOTD is Nuit de Cellophane. I pulled out several of my Serge perfumes, thinking I hadn’t given them a try for quite some time, and this one seemed just right for a day that was predicted to be (and now is) very summer-like, hot and humid. I just feel it’s pleasantly light and a bit fresh, with the almondy aspects coming to the fore right now in a nice way.

Hermes Cedre Sambac is my SOTD. I have battling laryngitis and a bad cough for a week. When I saw my Dr last Tuesday, she said it was viral and to treat it with decongestants, antihistamine, cough drops and lots of tea with honey.

I called Dr’s office today. Started on antibiotics just now because it is just hanging around and I guess it has gone into something else now.

Today is the first day I dared put on perfume and so far, no coughing fits.

I’m in Bronze Goddess today. I have worn this one at bedtime quite often, especially after a bath. It’s great layered with the body creme. Last night I was in SJP Lovely. I’ve also worn a few iris scents such as Chanel No. 19 Poudre or Heure Exquise.

Like a few others have already mentioned, for me it’s important not to wear anything too heavy. I’ve made that mistake before and have been woken up by it, unable to get back to sleep. And too tired or annoyed to have to get up to scrub it off!

I rarely intentionally wear a scent to bed, but the few times I have I’ve chosen things that are soft, clean, and powdery…. along those lines. So today I’m sampling Puredistance White, and it’s not soft but does feel clean and powdery.

I have two categories for bedtime scents — cheap thrills and cozy musks. Today I went for cozy musk with a sample of Les Indemodables Musc Des Sables. I get orris and fuffly musk. It smells like a watercolor version of a powder note, if that makes sense. It is lovely.

Tea today was a strong Pu’er in the morning to make me lively for an early meeting. And this afternoon I drank the office out of Earl Grey (my protest against unnecessary RTO requirements). I plan to celebrate cocktail day with a negroni later.

Confession: many of my bedtime scents are perfumes I blind bought and didn’t like very much at first. Especially in my early stages of being “perfumista”, I would wear to bed a perfume that I don’t love but also don’t dislike. Well, some of them really grew on me over time and now are among my favorites. That was the case with Love, Chloe which I am wearing tonight 💗

Still in my daytime scent, Musc Monoï.
I finished a sample of EL Tuberose Gardenia yesterday, gifted to me by someone from NST, though I can’t remember who it was. Very pretty scent, but a tad loud.

I tend to wear colognes to bed, Eau de Guerlain, Eau de Lalique, Eau parfumée au thé vert…
because they are light and undemanding.

In my quest to try as many perfumes from Perfumer H as I can, I’m wearing their Lemon Tree today. Ooh this one is so nice. I wish I had more than a few ml. I’m not sure I’ll pay the price they’re asking for a bottle. Maybe if I find one on sale.

Hmm maybe not super lemony but definitely lemon. It’s on the herbaceous and refreshing side but still has some sweetness.

It was wonderful! I meant to report back the next day and got lazy. I ended up wearing vintage Tabac Blond extrait. The opera was gorgeous, both the singing and the extraordinary sets. We found out in a display in the lobby and in our programs that the sets were made in the 1950s in Milan, and the Seattle Opera purchased them in 1969. They’ve been rented out to other operas many times over the years and truly look like works of art.

There’s a lot of humidity here today. Last week I still had the heat on ( frost warnings) today the A/C is on.
I sometimes wear a perfume or body spray at night, just to get more perfume time in. I’m still at work atm and have been wearing Devotion all day. Bbw has a dupe of Devotion in a body cream which I picked up yesterday. I haven’t opened it yet though.

Posting late! My brother was able to deal with my brakes today, so I spent most of the afternoon over at his place. Fortunately for me and my wallet, he didn’t need to replace any other parts besides the ones we had already purchased.

Teflon kitty has a vet appointment tomorrow. Wish us luck!

It wasn’t a question of him being able to repair, thankfully. It was “How complicated and/or annoying is the repair going to be? And are there any unpleasant surprises in store?”

Poor Teflon looks so miserable every time we go to the vet’s office.

I have a mini of your sotd in my stash. I’ll have to pull it out. I did wear Tatiana one night last week after you recently mentioned DvF. It was like meeting an “old friend”.

I spent the day in Profumum Roma Alba. It’s another one that’s great at bedtime — it reminds me of marshmallows, without actually smelling like them. Just a soft haze of almondy sandalwood, with a hint of iris. Yummy.
