As always, May is flying by in a rush. Don't forget the haiku challenge will be next weekend! We're (hopefully) enjoying the weekend with our same old open thread poll.
Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, what's blooming now where you are, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

What a beautiful image!
I am wearing Acqua di Parma Cipresso di Toscana.
As for the haiku challenge, I’ve written nine haiku and am wondering whether I should share a few directly in the challenge’s comments next week and provide a link to the rest. Otherwise, it would make for a very long comment.🤔
I love that image too!
You could make nine comments! It might not even be the record.
Not even close.
Glannys, of course do what you like but I personally prefer the idea of the 9 comments, because I like that you can use the haiku tag and find the old posts with the haiku 🙂
Happy Saturday!🌞
The gorgeous weather I’ve waited all winter for is finally here. Currently 66 degrees without a cloud in the sky.💛
I’m in my RL palm tree T-shirt with perfume to match: Hyper Beach from Beauty Pie with Top Notes: Apple Juice, Juicy Pineapple, Blood Orange + Middle Notes: Mango Juice, Ozonic, Velvet Peach + Base Notes: Vanilla, Warm Amber, Musk. I probably don’t a bottle, but I like that their samples are 5 ml decants.
It’s finally Birkenstock weather and I am in desperate! need of a pedicure, so that’s on the list for this weekend.
May really is flying by. Madtownteen is wrapping up her first year of college and comes home on Tuesday! I’ve taken the day off of work and will make the round trip to get her. I can hardly wait.🥰
How is it that your kids have grown up so much and we haven’t aged since 94? Lol.
Enjoy the weather. It’s gorgeous here too.
Ha, I was wondering the same thing lillyjo!
Right?! My oldest is 28 this year which is the same age I was when he was born. I have no idea how this has happened.😅
Glad you’re getting the gorgeous weather too! Happy Mother’s Day lillyjo!😊
Happy Mother’s Day!
I got a couple of samples at a Sephora while on vacation and today I’m wearing one of them, Bleu de Chanel EDP. And it isn’t terrible! It isn’t of any particular interest, either, not compared to some of the best men’s scents of the last 50 years or so. It’s a lowest-common-denominator crowd-pleaser, and there’s nothing wrong with that, though the price they’re asking for something this average is just shocking. It should be in a drugstore display for $39.99.
The other sample was Kenzo Homme Indigo, which according to the packaging is marine notes, leather, and iris, and that doesn’t bode well (very much not an iris fan), but by god I’m going to try it on tomorrow, because I am just that stubborn. Maybe it’ll surprise me! Or maybe I won’t be able to scrub it off fast enough!
I agree it is not terrible (my mother wore it briefly) but also not good enough to be a pillar men’s fragrance from Chanel. They could do better.
It looks like my mother is going to be released from the hospital on Tuesday but with the new diagnosis of dementia. We are just trying to get services lined up for her. Wearing Clinique Happy today while I am at work.
Best wishes to you and your mum. My grandfather battled with dementia as well. It’s a long battle so hang in there. We are here to support you.
That is great news! Hope you find the support you need for her…
So glad she’s coming home. Hope you find all the right people and places and things you need Dawn!
Hope everything will go smoothly for your mother’s care.
I hope you can get support sorted out quickly for your mother.
A good thing she’ll be released from the hospital. I hope you arrange for the best possible caregiving.
As you have probably seen me mention before, both my mother and grandmother had Alzheimer’s, and ultimately died from it. I spent most of my nursing career working with the elderly, their families and staff so now that I am retired, I volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association giving presentations to educate people.
Good luck getting the services you need to make sure she is safe and well taken care of and if needed, reach out to your local Alzheimer’s Association for resources as they assist with all dementias.
Kris, I didn’t know this. What a beautiful way to honor their memories with your service! Bravo!
Best wishes for your family, Dawn. I hope you get the best possible help.
Dawn, I have walked a mile in your moccasins. I will keep you and your mom in my thoughts.
Dawn, hope you find the best support for your mother. Thinking of you 🙏
Thinking of you , Dawn, and hoping that you are able to find the care you want for you mom, and the support you yourself might need
Sorry to hear about the dementia diagnosis for your Mom. It changes so many things. I went thru it with my Mom. Hope you both can get the support and resources needed. Good luck.
Dawn, your mother is blessed to have you as a daughter! Sending prayers and thoughts of comfort to you!
Happy weekend!
Trying out PdM Safanad today. Gosh I really like it. The warm vanillic jasmine reminds me of J’adore l’Or which I own so I am debating whether I should buy this.
Another one I am itching to own is Prada Infusion de Rhubarbe. Very juicy and tart photo-realistic rhubarb supported by roses with a slight metallic edge. Lovely.
Ah, maybe I need to try that Prada! But most of the infusions have not been what I was expecting.
I’ve been looking to try that Prada as well. Thought I was in luck at a duty free shop that seemed to carry the whole line, but they didn’t have the Rhubarb yet. Might have to try the mall 🫣
Beautiful photo today, Robin. There’s some wisteria blooming here, and I recently was lucky to walk by some at sniffing height. It’s cool to get to stick your nose in the blossoms vs. also smelling it just wafting in the air in the breeze.
I have a question for folks. What perfume(s) would you wear to the opera? I’m going to my second opera tonight to see Tosca. I was thinking of finding something Italian to wear. However, people in Seattle in general are less of perfume people than in some other regions. Some people here can be very austere when it comes to personal scent and mindful of respecting others near them. So I can’t go too big with my perfume at venues like this where you’re sitting in close quarters. I’ll be wearing a long black velvet dress that’s nice but not super fancy. Dress here is generally more on the casual side too. Any ideas for me or just for what you’d choose to wear yourself?
I would lean toward a light application of something I owned in extrait — dressier/fancier, and stays close to the body.
Tosca! Such a good opera. I wear just a dab of something opulent on my wrists. In the past I’ve worn Teatro alla Scala, Amouage Gold and Dia, 24, Faubourg, and Bois des Iles. I hope you have a great time>
This is a great list!
I have worn 31 Rue Cambon, a dab of Ysatis
I would say anything by Chanel
Ysatis is also one I have worn in the past
I think I would wear a few drops of my fanciest perfumes. Maybe a dab on my wrist and one behind the knees to feel super elegant.
I was going to say a single drop, not even a full spray, of something lovely on the chest, so it pleases you and doesn’t bother anybody else.
Thanks all, some great suggestions here!
Have a great time!
SOTD is Delina- I don’t know why I don’t wear this more often?!
Reading Zoe Brennan: First Crush, a quick coming-of-age read about a girl’s first same-gender crush. Got it free at a library event—writing’s just okay, but it’s moving fast.
My in-laws made homemade dosa today and that with chai tea is a match made in heaven.
No farmers market this morning as I went for my horse riding lesson.
Also for those who are celebrating -Happy Mother’s Day tomorrow.
Happy Weekend, everyone.
On a piping hot Saturday in Los Angeles, I’m in Un Jardin Sur La Lagune. This is one I wasn’t sure about at first, but it’s really grown on me. It’s just right on this sweltering day.
Happy to see you here Daniel after your busy work schedule! Wanted to ask your input on an earlier discussion about what after shave/s Don Draper of Mad Men would have worn. Looking forward to hearing your take and why!
Yes, I’ve been swamped, and haven’t been able to check in much at all. I missed the Don Draper discussion! Did people have thoughts about what he might have worn?
I think Brut and Aqua Velva were mentioned.
I think maybe Aramis in the later seasons.
Brut is from ’68, so he could have worn it in the later seasons. But maybe Don would wear something a little more special.
Aramis is a good one. He also seems like a Habit Rouge guy, and that was released in 1965.
An unlikely scenario, but I like to think of him spritzing himself with Cabochard by Grès – the predecessor to Aramis – if his wife had it around.
Galbanumgal thought:
Don would have worn English Leather, Aqua Velva or Brut. Roger would have worn something British.
Then I think lillyjo guessed Roger would have worn British Sterling.
I think Don would have selected his own cologne, but I could also see Betty adding to his “collection” with a Christmas gift. And I could see her going a little splashier than he might, so maybe he chose the Aqua Velva for himself and the Aramis is from Betty?
I am wearing ELDO Remarkable People, one of my Paris purchases. Has Oakland Fresca been here? We had lunch together at a bistro there.
You met in Paris?! How fabulous!
We were hoping you would be there at the same time, but I think we missed you.
OaklandF hasn’t been on here much to my knowledge…
Hey NST!
I just got back from my vacation in Cape Town where I was trying to be offline as much as possible (it was wonderful), so I missed the last couple of weeks here. And now I’ve seen that the next CP is inspired by my suggestion – how exciting! I can’t wait to see what your favorite bed time scents are 🤗. I often don’t wear perfume during the day but I almost never go to bed without one.
I brought 8 perfumes with me on my trip (one FB, the others were minis) and after two weeks I was missing my home collection 🙆🏻♀️. That was one of the things I was looking forward the most about coming back home. Perfumes and my cats!
Sampling Hermès Eau de Basilic Pourpre today. It’s nice, fresh and spicy, but I am not smitten. I will give it another try.
Happy weekend everyone 💕
Welcome home, I do miss my collection too when away.
I’m glad you are back to do your cp!
Perfect timing on your return and the cp!
Welcome back!
Yogurt and apricot compote. The day was particularly gorgeous, currently finishing a modest housekeeping project, more thorough tomorrow. Moschino cheap and chic l’Eau this morning and tonight AdP Vaniglia, one of my best vanillas, very natural-smelling.
That wisteria picture is so ethereal.
One of the best vanillas, ever.
Isn’t it? So glad you love it too.
Yep, still have a bit in the bottle.
I’m enjoying a lazy start to my Sunday, I’m contemplating doing some baking, but no rush.
One of my travel purchases was the reissued Rubj VdE. I never tried the original, but I have the EdP from years back. Comparing them, they are similar, but sufficiently different that I’m pleased to have both. The EdP is richer (I think that’s the passionfruit note), and I think the VdE is a bit more of “wear anywhere” perfume.
Congrats on your new Rubj! Wear it in good health 🙂
Seconding Daniel’s sweltering day greetings here in LA! Wow it’s hot here. Sotd is a cooling YSL Libre L’Absolu Platine.
Got all my Mother’s Day supper shopping done. Feeling like a lottery winner to have both Mom and my aunt still with me to celebrate. Cards, flowers, brunch & supper, I’m going for it.
Wishing all a gorgeous spring/ fall (I see you Southern Hemisphere) day! 🥰
You did indeed win the lottery.
I hope it’s a joyous day for your family!
Thank you for this lillyjo and again thank you for assuaging my guilt a few days ago at buying fragrance for myself for Mother’s Day. Nurturing is the essence of parenthood, and self-nurturing is a survival skill in today’s world. I appreciate your uplifting reminder sweetie!
Enjoy your time with mother and aunt and as you said once, not too long in the kitchen so that you can have more memories.
Aurora, what an amazing memory! You’re 100% correct and miller baisers for reminding me. Last April we were celebrating 2 birthdays, a wedding anniversary, Passover and Easter on the same dinner, and I was stressing on the leg of lamb 😕. This year, the loved ones!!!!!
You are definitely fortunate to have your Mom and Aunt with you.
Kris, I didn’t know this. What a beautiful way to honor their memories with your service! Bravo!
Gosh jalapeño, I double posted my comment to Kris here. What do I expect at 6 am before I’ve finished coffee? Thank you for taking a moment to reach out. Our little family hit all the major emotional groups this weekend- it was a roller coaster! But I did focus on family not food and I have photos of burned chocolate chip pancakes to prove it.
I had a plan of cleaning out a desk that I have at home. It has many drawers and opens up to a stationary desk. It’s filled with random paper’s and stuff. Let’s see if I get the motivation to actually start the clean out.
I’m sampling a new Paris Hilton release. I think it’s called Iconic. It’s pretty. The display at ulta was almost sold out, which made me happy for Paris.
Good luck at the cleaning lillyjo! Desks are particularly tricky I think because so much much needs to be filed rather than thrown out or rearranged. That discussion can be tricky. Play some music ! Then let us know what you selected.
My SOTD was Rose Magnetic.
Damn, it got hot.
Put the AC today.
Had a lovely birthday yesterday and thank you for all your birthday wishes!
Delighted you had a wonderful birthday! 🎉 for a/c!
That’s a pretty rose.
Happy belated birthday!
I’m probably going to have to turn on the a/c later this week.
It always makes me nervous thinking this will be the year it doesn’t turn on. 🤞
Coming by late tonight, for me. Can’t decide on a movie to watch.
I had the nicest day. Like many have said, the weather was perfect today and I went to a couple of estate sales. One sale was full of beautiful vintage cloisonne vases, boxes and all sorts of ornaments that were wonderful to look at, everything was half price and I bought some things for gifts. Just driving in the country looking at the blooming trees and flowers was nice.
For these spring adventures I wore Pleasures and enjoyed it very much. It’s a big bunch of flowers, but there’s a sappy green underneath that gives it sparkle.
Nice to hear you had such a lovely day 😊
It sounds like a lovely day!
Happy Sunday! 🌸
Last night I went to bed in Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur, a soft and calming scent that I almost only wear at night.
Today we are cleaning our city. I woke up late to join the organized groups but I am planning to do some work on my own this afternoon 🧹
Then you should wear it again next Friday!
What a great project, hope you have good weather for it.
Group clean-ups are great projects! We are doing an annual neighborhood one next Saturday. We rent a woodchipper and a big ol’ dumpster. Several families have trucks, and they gather larger scrap and useable items to take to Habitat Restore, etc. Everyone helps drag tree limbs and heavy junk to main site. There is also a small freebie/swap table: household stuff, gardening stuff, and/or kids’ toys often appear there. As you know, NinaV, there is always a bit more to do for whomever steps up! 🙂
Happy Sunday!
And happy Mother’s Day to everyone who is mothering!
Happy Mother’s Day Robin!
Happy Mother’s Day Robin!💐
Happy Mother’s Day to all who celebrate!
Happy Mother’s Day to the dog and cat Moms as well!
💐
I took my daughter to Sephora thinking I would grab myself a little Mother’s Day travel spray treat. Travel Sprays are so expensive now though that I kept thinking for a few dollars more I could get a full bottle of something from a discounter. I ended up getting my daughter a blush from Haus, Lady Gaga’s line.
My sotd is everything I sprayed at Sephora. My favorite being My Burberry Blush.
Travel sprays really. have gotten expensive! I often think the same, I could just buy a whole bottle. So I end up buying nothing.
Sounds like split-meet material! Everybody gets a (home-made) travel spray
Wearing *a lot* of FM Eau d’Hiver. My bottle has a shiny black cap which means a newer bottle, probably after Lauder scooped them up, not the older opaque one. Either this has been reformulated or my memory is faulty. It seems a bit stronger than I remember and less ethereal. I tested it against a friend’s vintage Eau d’Hiver and the opening of mine is definitely a bit more bright though the drydown is similar. It also seems to last a bit longer. Can that be? I kind of miss that gauzy veil and transitory nature of Eau d’Hiver. It and Apres L’Ondee are similar on me that way, more like a ghost passing over skin than a perfume, and then pfft, gone.
I hate saying this but the newer one probably has some ambroxan in it to make it last longer. You might be able to smell it in the next day drydown.
It’s a beautiful perfume though. I had a travel spray year’s ago but it ended up going off when I was down to a few ml left.
Yes it is beautiful. Great name too. I did not smell ambrox in the drydown, (not even sure I would recognize it) but it certainly lasted longer than I remembered and then faded slowly away.
Delina this morning
My MIL is 75 today 🎂
Chai tea
Happy Birthday to your MIL!
Well, it’s a chilly, rainy Monday morning, and I’m in Ambra Aurea and drinking a latte. I love rainy days in the spring, and the trees and flowers love them too, so I plan to be cozy all day. I nearly always wear perfume to bed, so this week’s CP will be easy for me. Ambra Aurea frequently makes an appearance at bedtime but there are several other regulars — Tam Dao, Telegrama, Memoirs of a Trespasser, Caleche, Kyoto, Costes … 🛌 💤
I recently got a sample of Telegrama. I will try it tonight.
Don’t get too attached — it has been discontinued and I think I bought LuckyScent’s last bottle. There might still be travel sizes at the IA website though.
Slow Monday for me after a slow weekend. I visited Mom yesterday and there were some nice moments when all the old people (me included) were singing along with some videos to familiar songs like “Que Sera Sera” and “The Last Waltz.” Poignant, really. Mom didn’t really sing but she brightened up.
Our weather is glorious today but is about to turn abominable with record highs for May. :-(.
My SOTD is Safanad from PdM because I saw that HappyCats wore it the other day and remembered I have a sample. It’s nice but I think it’s a bit sweet for me. I’ll give it awhile longer though on my skin.
One of my kitties doesn’t seem to be doing well and I will have to get him a vet’s appointment soon. I hate it when they age.
It’s nice that your Mom had a good day with you yesterday. Sending you and kitty healing vibes.
Hope your kitty gets better 💓
Sounds like a nice time with your mom. I miss that.
Glad you had a good Mother’s Day visit. I hope you get some answers for your dear kitty.
Glad to hear you had a good visit with your Mom for Mother’s Day.
Poor kitty. Good luck at the vet.
I am still playing last week’s CP🤣
SOTD is a cosmetic plus a beautiful flower equal? No need to guess. I am in FM Lipstick Rose today. This reminds me so much of Chanel Misia, which I had years ago.
It was fun to come up with clues for people to guess, and to try to figure out everyone’s clues!
Anyone have a preference for Do Son edp vs. edt, or vice versa?
I’m in a spritz of each to try to compare them today. I’m finding the notes very similar. The edp is richer and the edt is lighter. Almost like comparing half-and-half to 1%. I suppose I get a bit of other floral notes in the edt, but they are indistinct florals. I wouldn’t call the edp heady on its own, but by comparison to the edt it is. Both are beautiful.
Tea today is a strong Assam to keep me awake. Stray kitty is at the vet to get fixed today (which I know is routine but any vet procedure that requires anesthesia makes me nervous). And he was NOT HAPPY that we took away his water bowl for the night in preparation, so I heard complaints about it several times throughout the night. Nerves + loud meows = cruddy sleep.
Commiserating with you on the “not happy” meows. Cats!
Oh, he’ll get over it and will be glad to see you soon. It’s wonderful you are taking care of him like that.
Oh, he’ll definitely get over it, but he’s gonna keep yelling until he gets his usual buffet and spa water back! 😂 He is super sweet. He has been inside full time since February and has taken to it really well. Not a lap cat (yet) but he likes to be pet. My inlaws decided to adopt him; Mr. Vee and I are fostering until they are ready for him. I’m happy I’ll still get to see him all I want (otherwise it was going to be a foster fail).
Oh yay he found a great home!
I think I had the edt and liked it just fine.
Good to know. Thank you!
I don’t remember which version of Do Son I tried ages ago. I liked it, but it wasn’t a love.
Looks like a few NSTers are taking their animals to the vet! Fingers crossed your appointment goes well.
Thanks Jalapeno. He is home now and clearly high on pain meds😂 but otherwise all good
Yay! 😸
“I’m high as a kite and I just might stop to check you out….” 🎶
I am wearing Acqua Viva today and enjoying a short vacation.
Short vacation is better than working!
Last night I wore Milano Masque L’Attesa to bed and for a moment I felt like a decadent novel heroine.
This evening I am craving something sweeter, maybe Devotion. I find this fragrance works great both during a busy day as for a calming night time.
Both are nice fragrances.
I love l’Attesa, but have never worn it to bed. Will have to try it sometime!
In spite of cloudy, warm and sultry weather, with more rain on the way, today I felt like Angel Muse. I mostly wore Silver Iris all weekend, but used a few spritzes of Proenza Schouler Arizona at bedtime. Arizona starts out “eau de Mall” but I like the clean fruit-and-musk dry down. My chimney and other brickwork repair went very well, and did brighten the place up. Are you sitting down? The two masons that came *looked for* and found a couple lurking problems that they then fixed at no extra cost above the estimate. I am sure we did pay top dollar, but they took a lot of care and worked very neatly, too. Hope everyone’s week is starting off well. I hope you Mothers got to talk to your kids this weekend!
Great news about those masons! Finding a good tradesperson is like winning the lottery.
So true!
100% and they are often a reliable source of referrals to other good tradespeople
Someone was asking about Guerlain’s Santal Royal, which I received as a sample. It was pleasant, if not such a show-stopper that it’s good value for money. As with many other perfumes, it does have to be love.
I was one of the folks asking about it. Found Santal Royal at Jomashop for a very tempting price, but it would be a blind buy. Thanks for your thoughts!
FWIW I think I also tried it in a sample and wasn’t impressed. I wouldn’t bother with it personally.
It’s quite warm here: 86 degrees F (or 30 degrees C). I have my thermostat set to 75, and it’s been coming on and off this afternoon. 🥵🥵
Well, my brother found out what was causing an indicator light to come on in my car. The rear brake cylinders are leaking. He topped off my brake fluid last week as a stopgap measure. Then I ordered replacement parts then. Sometime this week he will put the new parts in.
Looks like Teflon kitty needs to go to the vet very soon. She has been scratching her ears and shaking her little head a lot. Unfortunately, I know what that means. Probably another ear infection. 😿
SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. It’s leaning just the slightest touch on the masculine side for me today. Still enjoying it though.
Oh, poor Teflon kitty. 😿 I hope she feels better soon.
She is not a happy kitteh right now. Tomorrow I call the vet.
Poor TK! It just keeps coming back. Maybe they have a stronger antibiotic?
I think it’s a chronic condition that hadn’t been addressed until last year. The vet did say that Tef has tiny little ear canals, so her biology isn’t helping.
Oh no, another one! So soon!
But glad your brother figured out your car issue. I shoulda had a brother 🙂
Yeah, it stinks with Tef not feeling well again.
I think you did all right with your sister(s). 😉
I love my sisters but they do not fix cars.
Poor Teflon kitty 😢
Hope the meds do their magic fast!
Teflon kitty has a vet appointment for tomorrow. Neither one of us are looking forward to the dreaded ear drops!
