Lazy 3-day weekend poll ~ open thread, mid-May 2025

Posted by Robin on 10 May 2025 140 Comments

As always, May is flying by in a rush. Don't forget the haiku challenge will be next weekend! We're (hopefully) enjoying the weekend with our same old open thread poll.

Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, what's blooming now where you are, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

    What a beautiful image!

I am wearing Acqua di Parma Cipresso di Toscana.

As for the haiku challenge, I’ve written nine haiku and am wondering whether I should share a few directly in the challenge’s comments next week and provide a link to the rest. Otherwise, it would make for a very long comment.🤔

        Not even close.

Glannys, of course do what you like but I personally prefer the idea of the 9 comments, because I like that you can use the haiku tag and find the old posts with the haiku 🙂

    Happy Saturday!🌞
The gorgeous weather I’ve waited all winter for is finally here. Currently 66 degrees without a cloud in the sky.💛
I’m in my RL palm tree T-shirt with perfume to match: Hyper Beach from Beauty Pie with Top Notes: Apple Juice, Juicy Pineapple, Blood Orange ‎+ ‎Middle Notes: Mango Juice, Ozonic, Velvet Peach ‎+ ‎Base Notes: Vanilla, Warm Amber, Musk. I probably don’t a bottle, but I like that their samples are 5 ml decants.
It’s finally Birkenstock weather and I am in desperate! need of a pedicure, so that’s on the list for this weekend.
May really is flying by. Madtownteen is wrapping up her first year of college and comes home on Tuesday! I’ve taken the day off of work and will make the round trip to get her. I can hardly wait.🥰

I got a couple of samples at a Sephora while on vacation and today I’m wearing one of them, Bleu de Chanel EDP. And it isn’t terrible! It isn’t of any particular interest, either, not compared to some of the best men’s scents of the last 50 years or so. It’s a lowest-common-denominator crowd-pleaser, and there’s nothing wrong with that, though the price they’re asking for something this average is just shocking. It should be in a drugstore display for $39.99.

The other sample was Kenzo Homme Indigo, which according to the packaging is marine notes, leather, and iris, and that doesn’t bode well (very much not an iris fan), but by god I’m going to try it on tomorrow, because I am just that stubborn. Maybe it’ll surprise me! Or maybe I won’t be able to scrub it off fast enough!

I agree it is not terrible (my mother wore it briefly) but also not good enough to be a pillar men’s fragrance from Chanel. They could do better.

It looks like my mother is going to be released from the hospital on Tuesday but with the new diagnosis of dementia. We are just trying to get services lined up for her. Wearing Clinique Happy today while I am at work.

As you have probably seen me mention before, both my mother and grandmother had Alzheimer’s, and ultimately died from it. I spent most of my nursing career working with the elderly, their families and staff so now that I am retired, I volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association giving presentations to educate people.

Good luck getting the services you need to make sure she is safe and well taken care of and if needed, reach out to your local Alzheimer’s Association for resources as they assist with all dementias.

    Happy weekend!
Trying out PdM Safanad today. Gosh I really like it. The warm vanillic jasmine reminds me of J’adore l’Or which I own so I am debating whether I should buy this.
Another one I am itching to own is Prada Infusion de Rhubarbe. Very juicy and tart photo-realistic rhubarb supported by roses with a slight metallic edge. Lovely.

Beautiful photo today, Robin. There’s some wisteria blooming here, and I recently was lucky to walk by some at sniffing height. It’s cool to get to stick your nose in the blossoms vs. also smelling it just wafting in the air in the breeze.

I have a question for folks. What perfume(s) would you wear to the opera? I’m going to my second opera tonight to see Tosca. I was thinking of finding something Italian to wear. However, people in Seattle in general are less of perfume people than in some other regions. Some people here can be very austere when it comes to personal scent and mindful of respecting others near them. So I can’t go too big with my perfume at venues like this where you’re sitting in close quarters. I’ll be wearing a long black velvet dress that’s nice but not super fancy. Dress here is generally more on the casual side too. Any ideas for me or just for what you’d choose to wear yourself?

I would lean toward a light application of something I owned in extrait — dressier/fancier, and stays close to the body.

Tosca! Such a good opera. I wear just a dab of something opulent on my wrists. In the past I’ve worn Teatro alla Scala, Amouage Gold and Dia, 24, Faubourg, and Bois des Iles. I hope you have a great time>

Brut is from ’68, so he could have worn it in the later seasons. But maybe Don would wear something a little more special.
Aramis is a good one. He also seems like a Habit Rouge guy, and that was released in 1965.
An unlikely scenario, but I like to think of him spritzing himself with Cabochard by Grès – the predecessor to Aramis – if his wife had it around.

          10 May 2025 at 5:40 pm

          Galbanumgal thought:

Don would have worn English Leather, Aqua Velva or Brut. Roger would have worn something British.

Then I think lillyjo guessed Roger would have worn British Sterling.

I think Don would have selected his own cologne, but I could also see Betty adding to his “collection” with a Christmas gift. And I could see her going a little splashier than he might, so maybe he chose the Aqua Velva for himself and the Aramis is from Betty?

    Hey NST!
I just got back from my vacation in Cape Town where I was trying to be offline as much as possible (it was wonderful), so I missed the last couple of weeks here. And now I’ve seen that the next CP is inspired by my suggestion – how exciting! I can’t wait to see what your favorite bed time scents are 🤗. I often don’t wear perfume during the day but I almost never go to bed without one.
I brought 8 perfumes with me on my trip (one FB, the others were minis) and after two weeks I was missing my home collection 🙆🏻‍♀️. That was one of the things I was looking forward the most about coming back home. Perfumes and my cats!
Sampling Hermès Eau de Basilic Pourpre today. It’s nice, fresh and spicy, but I am not smitten. I will give it another try.
    Happy weekend everyone 💕

I’m enjoying a lazy start to my Sunday, I’m contemplating doing some baking, but no rush.
One of my travel purchases was the reissued Rubj VdE. I never tried the original, but I have the EdP from years back. Comparing them, they are similar, but sufficiently different that I’m pleased to have both. The EdP is richer (I think that’s the passionfruit note), and I think the VdE is a bit more of “wear anywhere” perfume.

I had a plan of cleaning out a desk that I have at home. It has many drawers and opens up to a stationary desk. It’s filled with random paper’s and stuff. Let’s see if I get the motivation to actually start the clean out.

Coming by late tonight, for me. Can’t decide on a movie to watch.
I had the nicest day. Like many have said, the weather was perfect today and I went to a couple of estate sales. One sale was full of beautiful vintage cloisonne vases, boxes and all sorts of ornaments that were wonderful to look at, everything was half price and I bought some things for gifts. Just driving in the country looking at the blooming trees and flowers was nice.
For these spring adventures I wore Pleasures and enjoyed it very much. It’s a big bunch of flowers, but there’s a sappy green underneath that gives it sparkle.

    Happy Sunday! 🌸
Last night I went to bed in Gucci Memoire d’une Odeur, a soft and calming scent that I almost only wear at night.
Today we are cleaning our city. I woke up late to join the organized groups but I am planning to do some work on my own this afternoon 🧹

Group clean-ups are great projects! We are doing an annual neighborhood one next Saturday. We rent a woodchipper and a big ol’ dumpster. Several families have trucks, and they gather larger scrap and useable items to take to Habitat Restore, etc. Everyone helps drag tree limbs and heavy junk to main site. There is also a small freebie/swap table: household stuff, gardening stuff, and/or kids’ toys often appear there. As you know, NinaV, there is always a bit more to do for whomever steps up! 🙂

I took my daughter to Sephora thinking I would grab myself a little Mother’s Day travel spray treat. Travel Sprays are so expensive now though that I kept thinking for a few dollars more I could get a full bottle of something from a discounter. I ended up getting my daughter a blush from Haus, Lady Gaga’s line.
My sotd is everything I sprayed at Sephora. My favorite being My Burberry Blush.

Travel sprays really. have gotten expensive! I often think the same, I could just buy a whole bottle. So I end up buying nothing.

Wearing *a lot* of FM Eau d’Hiver. My bottle has a shiny black cap which means a newer bottle, probably after Lauder scooped them up, not the older opaque one. Either this has been reformulated or my memory is faulty. It seems a bit stronger than I remember and less ethereal. I tested it against a friend’s vintage Eau d’Hiver and the opening of mine is definitely a bit more bright though the drydown is similar. It also seems to last a bit longer. Can that be? I kind of miss that gauzy veil and transitory nature of Eau d’Hiver. It and Apres L’Ondee are similar on me that way, more like a ghost passing over skin than a perfume, and then pfft, gone.

I hate saying this but the newer one probably has some ambroxan in it to make it last longer. You might be able to smell it in the next day drydown.
It’s a beautiful perfume though. I had a travel spray year’s ago but it ended up going off when I was down to a few ml left.

Yes it is beautiful. Great name too. I did not smell ambrox in the drydown, (not even sure I would recognize it) but it certainly lasted longer than I remembered and then faded slowly away.

Well, it’s a chilly, rainy Monday morning, and I’m in Ambra Aurea and drinking a latte. I love rainy days in the spring, and the trees and flowers love them too, so I plan to be cozy all day. I nearly always wear perfume to bed, so this week’s CP will be easy for me. Ambra Aurea frequently makes an appearance at bedtime but there are several other regulars — Tam Dao, Telegrama, Memoirs of a Trespasser, Caleche, Kyoto, Costes … 🛌 💤

Slow Monday for me after a slow weekend. I visited Mom yesterday and there were some nice moments when all the old people (me included) were singing along with some videos to familiar songs like “Que Sera Sera” and “The Last Waltz.” Poignant, really. Mom didn’t really sing but she brightened up.
Our weather is glorious today but is about to turn abominable with record highs for May. :-(.
My SOTD is Safanad from PdM because I saw that HappyCats wore it the other day and remembered I have a sample. It’s nice but I think it’s a bit sweet for me. I’ll give it awhile longer though on my skin.
One of my kitties doesn’t seem to be doing well and I will have to get him a vet’s appointment soon. I hate it when they age.

Anyone have a preference for Do Son edp vs. edt, or vice versa?

I’m in a spritz of each to try to compare them today. I’m finding the notes very similar. The edp is richer and the edt is lighter. Almost like comparing half-and-half to 1%. I suppose I get a bit of other floral notes in the edt, but they are indistinct florals. I wouldn’t call the edp heady on its own, but by comparison to the edt it is. Both are beautiful.

Tea today is a strong Assam to keep me awake. Stray kitty is at the vet to get fixed today (which I know is routine but any vet procedure that requires anesthesia makes me nervous). And he was NOT HAPPY that we took away his water bowl for the night in preparation, so I heard complaints about it several times throughout the night. Nerves + loud meows = cruddy sleep.

Oh, he’ll definitely get over it, but he’s gonna keep yelling until he gets his usual buffet and spa water back! 😂 He is super sweet. He has been inside full time since February and has taken to it really well. Not a lap cat (yet) but he likes to be pet. My inlaws decided to adopt him; Mr. Vee and I are fostering until they are ready for him. I’m happy I’ll still get to see him all I want (otherwise it was going to be a foster fail).

In spite of cloudy, warm and sultry weather, with more rain on the way, today I felt like Angel Muse. I mostly wore Silver Iris all weekend, but used a few spritzes of Proenza Schouler Arizona at bedtime. Arizona starts out “eau de Mall” but I like the clean fruit-and-musk dry down. My chimney and other brickwork repair went very well, and did brighten the place up. Are you sitting down? The two masons that came *looked for* and found a couple lurking problems that they then fixed at no extra cost above the estimate. I am sure we did pay top dollar, but they took a lot of care and worked very neatly, too. Hope everyone’s week is starting off well. I hope you Mothers got to talk to your kids this weekend!

It’s quite warm here: 86 degrees F (or 30 degrees C). I have my thermostat set to 75, and it’s been coming on and off this afternoon. 🥵🥵

Well, my brother found out what was causing an indicator light to come on in my car. The rear brake cylinders are leaking. He topped off my brake fluid last week as a stopgap measure. Then I ordered replacement parts then. Sometime this week he will put the new parts in.

Looks like Teflon kitty needs to go to the vet very soon. She has been scratching her ears and shaking her little head a lot. Unfortunately, I know what that means. Probably another ear infection. 😿

SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. It’s leaning just the slightest touch on the masculine side for me today. Still enjoying it though.
