Happy Almost-Friday! It's also World Red Cross Day and Iris Day. Happy 99th to Sir David Frederick Attenborough! (And happy birthday to my little sister!) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm participating in iris day, although iris is not in the name of my fragrance, and it's by a relatively obscure brand that is pretty well known here. Eat your vegetables, folks!
Reminder: 5/9 will be Guessing Game Friday (edition 5)! Our community project for today: describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is. Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

ps, if nobody guessed your fragrance on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, do tell us the answer!
I Love les Carottes? Am missing out, haven’t tried anything from the brand.
Iris in my sotd as well, from a house that produces an olfactory
magazine.
Yep!!
And I would think yours is by Nez but I don’t know the fragrance…
Is it Ambre a Levres?
Yes!
Happy Birthday to your younger sister, Robin! My scent of the day is Carnal Flower. I think it’s so pretty. I’ve seen pictures of Candice Bergen in the 60’s, and to me she represents this scent perfectly. I love that Frederic Malle’s fragrances were my cue to seek out Louis Malle’s films. I really loved Elevator to the Gallows, and The Fire Within.
You smell gorgeous! Candice Bergen is a great match.
I’m wearing a bitter green eponymous scent from a person with a famous father.
It’s perfect for the cool breezy spring day.
I’m guessing Bella Freud’s line-Ginsburg is God, maybe?
No, galbanumgirl got it 😊
Paloma Picasso?
That’s it!
Happy birthday to your sister, Robin!
Regarding my SOTD:
Imagine you’re out for a walk in spring. You wander into a park — clearly designed by a clever artisan. Right in front of you is a beautiful hedge, completely covered in lush blossoms. As you inhale, you immediately recognize the scent: sweet, heavy, indolic jasmine, with a hint of honeysuckle lingering in the background.
Diptyque Olene?
Sorry, austenfan got it! You nailed the notes, but missed the other clues. “Artisan” was a hint toward the perfume house, and the hedge covered in blossoms was key: La Haie Fleurie means “the flowering hedge.”
Wow, I didn’t pick up on either of those clues. Good job, austenfan!
La haie fleurie du hameau?
Winner winner, chicken dinner!
Interestingly, I don’t get much honeysuckle in this but I do smell the jonquille note. A truly gorgeous perfume!
Gorgeous indeed. Pity it is discontinued.
I can’t detect jonquille/daffodil/narcissus in it, but get a bit of honeysuckle. But jasmine very much dominates.
I need to come up with something fiendishly difficult for tomorrow!
La Haie Fleurie was so amazing!!!!
I hope your sister has a great birthday, Robin!
I haven’t been here much this week as I’ve been sick and so my scent has been military-themed…that, or the namesake of an ELdO fragrance that doesn’t smell anything like its name. Take your pick, it’s the same. 🙂 I should have known…Ockeghem Teen was sick last week, I was beyond busy, and so the moment things calmed down I caught the bug. Now that Mr. Ockeghem is home, I’ve passed it along to him, too…sharing is caring.
Today I think I can smell a bit again, so I’ll go with Iris Day in a scent that I bought in a warm place, but during an unusual cold snap that made for some very chilly stargazing. The perfume also does not have iris in the name, but reminds me of travelling in Europe as we tend to visit a lot of churches.
Ugh, so sorry!!
Excellent clues, going to have to think about it though.
It’s a small niche perfumer, and I bought it at a little boutique in the city where they’re based — the warm place I visited during a spring cold snap.
Is it Gallivant Bukhara?
Is it something from SMN?
Nope! It’s a small U.S.-based perfumer, on the truly niche end of niche.
Ok, DSH? Imaginary Authors?
No, those aren’t in warm places, never mind.
Fzotic?
Fzotic?
Same city as Fzotic, but maybe more niche? It’s La Curie, Ossuary.
I’m copying Robin from yesterday.
🙂
Hello from Malaysia!
Happy birthday to Robin’s little sister!!!
I have been doing quite a bit of sniffing and did some damage. I bought Amouage Epic 56 (Now I have completed the extrait collection! Yay) and Reasons. Currently contemplating Amouage Outlands and LV eLVes (The opening is what’s making me think. It opens with a coconut that smells somewhat like celery. Hmmmm. But once that burns off, the rest is quite delicious.).
MFK Kurky was a boring meh. It has the usual MFK soapy clean signature with gentle suggestions of gummy bears. But it never reached “fun”.
Ex Nihilo’s Spiky Muse was another flop. The strawberry wasn’t juicy enough on my skin, nor was the pistachio strong enough (Un Jardin à Cythère is an example of good pistachio). On me, it was very akigalawood heavy, I smelled like a carpenter’s workshop with hints of something artificial. But if you liked Hermes’ Barenia you might find this likeable.
Only a few days of holiday left! I will pop by here and say hello if I can. 🙂
Glad you are having a great scented time!
Thank you for the sniff reports!
I’m so jealous that you bought Reasons! It’s on my list, but it’s SO pricey!
I thought I spotted Reasons on Jomashop recently. They’re currently having a sale on Amouage.
Oh, you are a VERY bad enabler!
Sounds like you are having a great time!
My fragrance was a trendsetter in the nineties even though its inspiration is far older than that.
In fact, the inspiration dates back centuries…..
When I think of a trend-setting perfume from the nineties, all that comes to my mind is Angel. But it’s probably something else.
Not Angel
It was not nearly as influential as Angel.
Yeah, Angel came to mind for me, too, except the inspiration didn’t go back a long time. 🙂
Theorema?
No.
I can’t really picture you wearing this, but … Opium?
No, the inspiration for my perfume is perfectly legal and according to some has health benefits
CK One?
No, a few years younger than that.
Mine was the first fragrance to highlight a certain “note”. That note is inspired by something ancient, that is still very much around these days.
🤔🤔🤔
L’eau D’issey? ( I’m thinking of calone in the 90’s)
Thought of calone as well. There was also Cool Water, but it was in the 80s, and Acqua di Gio – 1996.
The original Comme des Garcons?
We need more clues!
Or Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan?
Or Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert would qualify.
You got it Robin, Eau parfumée au thé vert it is.
Yay.
I believe this one is discontinued from a well known french perfume house…
The scent will take you to far off lands in either the Middle East or North Africa…
Sacred…velvety ..Smokey rose
Not guessing your perfume, but did you select a Hermes after sniffing yesterday?
In the end I loved eau de Mervielles – this had a beautiful dry down
What do you think ?
I love it!
Eau de M. is gorgeous. It really reminds me of a certain part of my life-i remember I had some really nice jeans, and I’d spray this on my ankles. I was trying to be a grown up 🙂 Did you buy a set, or this one fragrance?
Maybe Rose Nacree du Desert?
That was my first guess as well. It’s not smoky though, at least not that I remember
Caron Parfum Sacre?
Hmm, I think your scent description could fit what I’m wearing today as well. We’ll find out if we’re scent twins!
Finishing off my sample of Dia, and it’s a wrench. There might be one last sample left back at home, I hope.
Fingers crossed!
Happy Birthday to your dear sister, Robin!
My birthday is tomorrow.
Next week I will go to see my sister and we will celebrate a few birthdays, a bit late Mothers’ Day and the first granddaughter to graduate from high school, even though I am pretty sure she was born five minutes ago.
The sun appeared yesterday for what to me feels like the first time in months. As if I went from February to now. It’s been not great.
All week am wearing Chanel Eauxs – bright, fresh, and sunny. And tulips delivered to me yesterday from a dear friend.
Happy Almost Birthday apsara to go with Happy Almost Friday!
And yay sisters🎉🎉🎉 ❤️
Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Have a great birthday tomorrow, apsara! So happy to hear the sun came out for you.
It was grim for almost three months. I was grim.
Just came from long walk along the Pacific.
As Florence Welch would say, how big, how blue, how beautiful.
Have a super birthday!
Thank you, Kris!
Happy birthday one day ahead!
Thank you!
Huzzah for the return of the sun!
HUZZAH indeed.
Happy early Birthday!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Yay, have a wonderful birthday with your sisters! (And yay for sisters.)
Happy Almost Friday!
Happy Birthday to Robin’s little sister!
Sotd FM Iris Poudre from a generous NSTer on Iris Day!
Iris is the flower of my sorority. Sending love to my KKG sisters of my college years, wherever they may be!
Smelling beautiful today!
Thanks to a lovely lovely fabulous-scented angel!
I’m wearing a designer fragrance from a house that has been criticized for sexually suggestive perfume names. My fragrance has in its name a fruit whose emoji is sometimes used as a substitute derriere.
Off to Costco today, I am hoping a midweek, midday trip will be less crowded. In other news, the surgeon cleared me for weightlifting “as tolerated” in my formerly broken arm. It looks healed on x-ray after 12 weeks.
Ha, Bitter Peach🍑…lol at substitute derriere. Congrats on the bone healing!
Yes!
Congratulations on the good diagnosis!
Thanks! How is your eyesight after cataract surgery?
Thanks, it is improved but I still need glasses for closeup. I have a new Rx for them but just haven’t gotten to fill it. yet.
Tom Ford 🍑
I got a big grin after reading “substitute derriere”! 🤣🤣
Good one!!
Since it is Iris Day and Comete was mentioned yesterday, I am going with a dupe of Comete today and wearing Zara Romance d’Iris. I had to look it up on Zara’s website after Jalapeno said it was not on there anymore. She is right! the only place I saw it was on Amazon for around twice the price. I have a lot since it comes in a 3.4-ounce bottle, but I hope they aren’t discontinuing it.
Do you find it to be a satisfying dupe? I’m not up for spending Les Exclusif prices much these days, but I find myself reaching for my Comete sample a lot.
I think it is.
Pop the cork
Bring out the flutes
A perfect scent to celebrate a little sister’s birthday
Champagne YSL?
It must be.
I’m wearing my most uber-sultry fragrance, white florals to the max. This perfume is just too sexy for me! I know bees would love it!
It’s a warm pretty day out. I’m off to do some errands and am thinking of going to my favorite little Turkish restaurant for lunch.
Calypso your description makes me think of Songes.
I adore Turkish food! It’s one of the world’s great cuisines.
Fracas?
https://youtu.be/OxZp4VEopcE
You beat me to it!🤣
You could still post the original version. 😈 I didn’t realize what I posted was a remix.
Ha ha you made me laugh!
Is it Nosy be ylang?
No, although I do have that and love it.
Folks, the operative word in my description is BEES.
What do bees love and what, more specifically, do they MAKE?
Slowdive?
So it must have honey, but we need another clue!
citrus + cardamom
Chanel Beige?
There’s also Poison, but frankly neither Beige nor Poison come off as sultry to me.
Is it Parfums DelRae Amoreuse?
That’s the best guess so far and includes the citrus, cardamom and honey.
Happy birthday to your little sister, Robin!
I had not picked a SOTD before I started watching the live coverage from the Vatican City, so I chose an incense (but not a churchy incense). This one has had renewed interest on NST in recent months, perhaps due to its being recently discontinued. Another one bites the dust from a fragrance giant that does not hesitate to axe scents, especially more recent releases.
Encens Mythique
Ding ding ding! And, are we scent twins? 😉
Yes!
Hiya scent twin! 👋👋
Smoothie is a pear, I’m sorry to say it’s from South Africa, so flown to the UK and not ecological but very good nonetheless.
Today my perfume is named after an island. Tonight, I’m wearing Noir épices, I’m still so thrilled to finally have a bottle after finishing my decant, it’s my first 100ml bottle of FM although I have a 30ml of Rose et Cuir.
Is it MPG Fleurs des Comores?
No, not that part of the world, my island is in Europe😀
Corsica Furiosa?
Good guess but no, further north.
Fiori di Capri?
No, further north.
Jersey?
Yes, Vee, congratulations!
South Africa?!? That’s a long way for your produce to travel!
I agree, I usually ensure my produce choices are local and if not, from neighbouring countries. The thing is these pears looked very tempting.
I’m celebrating today’s special day with my scent choice, like many of you. Mine is something another NSTer offered in a previous split meet. In this most split meet, she offered many others in this same line. It’s part of the luxury/prestige line from a designer brand.
😎
😂
People are being VERY sparing with clues today!
I haven’t been able to read all the comments yet, but I agree mine was not very helpful today! Definitely required too much detective work.
It was Chloe Atelier des Fleurs Iris, and man, nothing was coming to me for that. Plus, I don’t see it mentioned here much. I have tomorrow off work so I’ll have more time and brain capacity available. 😉
Ha, no worries but that NEVER would have come to my mind without a hint towards the brand name.
I’m working from home today, we’re moving office and we need to be out of the way for the movers. We’re going back to the building we worked in a couple of years ago, which I like, so it’s all good.
I’m wearing a perfume I wouldn’t wear to the office. It’s from an English perfumer, it’s named after a figure from the Bible, regarded as a wicked temptress.
Yesterday’s perfume was Tiger By Her Side 🙂
Papillon Salome?
Good call.
You seem very sanguine about your office move. If I had to pack up my stuff to move back to a building I had just moved out of only a couple of years earlier, I would make myself dizzy giving side eye to whomever was responsible. Glad to hear that, of the two locations, you are headed to the one you like better.
SOTD = take a guess!
Today’s SOTD:
– the name is long and contains a punctuation, NOT including the apostrophe
– there are several flankers, although there is one I particularly like
– 🦄 💩 🌈❣️🤩
I called NJTransit again this afternoon, after having left a message on Monday afternoon. My next call will be next Tuesday afternoon then we’ll go forward from there. It’s possible I may have sent the package to the “wrong” address but at the same time, how TERRIBLE is it for them to not even ACKNOWLEDGE not having received the package?
Something from by Killian?
Same line!
Stealing from jalapenos guess to say Love don’t be shy extreme?
You got it!
I smell like Don Draper after happy hour (minus the cigarette smoke).
Tea today is a chocolate tea from a tiny shop in Amsterdam. It is more of a fruity chocolate, than the richer chocolate tea from Clippership that I usually have.
Kilian’s Old Fashioned?
first one, right outta the gate!
And here I was gonna try to guess a men’s fragrance from the early 1960s…
Ha! My collection is not deep enough to pull that off, unfortunately. But on that topic, does Mad Men ever show what cologne Don wears? I don’t recall. Quick google search says no, but I don’t necessarily trust Reddit…
Don would have worn English Leather, Aqua Velva or Brut. Roger would have worn something British.
British Sterling!
I still swoon over Don Draper. 😍
I know nothing about Jon Hamm’s new show but I’ll watch it because he is in it and will forever be Don Draper to me 😍
If you’re referring to Your Friends and Neighbors, it’s good. I’m really enjoying it!
Glad to hear that! It’s on my list as soon as I’m done with Andor, The Studio, Hacks, and The Last of Us (all these great shows got jammed into April and May)
Gosh, I don’t know if Mad Men would be too niche but I’d love to do a CP scenting different characters from the show!
Yes! Or even a broader theme of scent you favorite TV characters
My perfume is from a favorite designer house. It is the 90’s edp flanker to the higher regarded, and greener 70’s edt. Both of them have oakmoss and vetiver as listed notes.
Chanel No. 19 EdP?
Close.
Cristalle?
Yes!
Chanel No. 19 Poudre?
Jalapeno got it with Cristalle.
You smell good after seeing jalapeño’s comment!
I’m wearing a fragrance that often gets compared to a Chanel scent. It can be green, woody and refined at the same time.
Dune?
No, not Dune. Wish I had that one.
Is it Heure Exquise?
Yes!
Yay, it’s a gorgeous scent!
Very bright and sunny here! 🌞🌞🌞 I was actually awake before 6am this morning. Teflon kitty likes the early breakfasts. Me, not so much.
Look out, points East, the wet stuff is coming your way.
Viva il Papa!
SOTD = Guerlain Encens Mythique, plus Korres Mastic Body Butter on the usual spots. Doubling down on incense today. And wondering if anyone here has tried the Guerlain Les Absolus d’Orient Santal Royal?
I never see Santal Royal mentioned. I’m curious about it too.
I smelled it last week. It’s…okay. I wouldn’t call it a sandalwood-forward scent, certainly not in the same league as Bois des Iles. It’s more a woody floral.
Thank you foxbins!
I don’t recall trying it but I bet you smell good!
Encens Mythique? Or Santal Royal?
Encens Mythique is on the lighter side of incense scents in my experience.
I’ve been seeing bottles of the Guerlain Absolus d’Orient on Jomashop for incredible prices. Oh so tempting!
Viva il Papa!
