Happy Friday! And happy 70th to Our Lady Donatella Versace. Our community project for today: honor Donatella by wearing the last fragrance you purchased, or anything that you think fits the occasion.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: day 2 in Carthusia Mediterraneo, the first fragrance I ever bought unsniffed, and (I think) the bottle I have replaced the most times.
Reminder: 5/9 will be Guessing Game Friday (edition 5)! Our community project for today: describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is. Suggested by Glannys.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Donatella Versace with Gigi and Bella Hadid, Versace Spring Summer 2022 campaign.
Versace Blonde, since it was created in Donatella’s honor.
Interesting collection of her photos:

I loved the pictures, Glannys. She’s had a remarkable life.
Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.
Excellent!
Nailed the CP!
Friday already! Hope everyone has a good one.
My latest purchase is Gabrielle Essence but it’s kind of chilly today and I will be outside for a while, so I chose one of my favorite blind buys, Narciso White Cube for the CP. It always smells great.
Glad you got Essence!
Both good scents!
Messe de Minuit, for my imagined private side of Donatella, sitting alone in a shadowy chapel somewhere in Italy and thinking of her childhood.
You smell wonderful, and the back story is inspired.
Nice, I like that.
I’m in FM Rose Tonnerre, from a sample, while I wait for my new bottle. It’s the 30 ml size, in those fabulous black bakelite bottles
(also love that it was 75 percent off at the Cosmetic Company Store). I do love that format. Only drawback is you cannot see the level of fragrance left in the bottle. I think this is a beautiful fragrance. I had a sample back in 2005 or so, and loved it-and now it reminds me of that time.
Hope everyone’s day is good.
Amazing savings! Enjoy your new purchase!
Wearing Cheirosa 68 again today. It was the last perfume that I got. There were tons of things I could have worn but didn’t fit my work environment to well.
Hope it is a good work day Dawn!
My most recent purchase (not even a week ago, in Toronto) was Demeter Jasmine: I have a couple of jasmine-heavy scents, Lush Lust and Guerlain Samsara, but sometimes you just want it straight no chaser, right? And it’s a really good one, too — a bit green, a bit dirty, but mostly just heady and beautiful.
Oh, that does sound like a great jasmine! I struggle with some jasmine scents, they can get shrill on me but combined with patch (Le Maroc Pour Elle!!) or sandalwood (Samsara!!), they work better.
I don’t find the Demeter version shrill at all: it’s kind of bright and expansive at the beginning (I think we expect this of jasmine grandiflorum) but it settles in nicely after a short time. I’m a man and I’ll wear what I like and not care, but I wouldn’t be happy in a really heavy white floral, and this is not that. It’s cheerful.
Wow that Demeter Jasmine sounds really good!
SOTD and the last purchase, which was in the last month, is Hermes Hiris. Love it♥️
You smell fantastic, Kris! Today, one of my irises bloomed; it’s a beautiful dark purple.
I bet is is gorgeous!
Oops. I bet it is gorgeous.
I get a little nostalgic when I see iris flowers blooming. They remind me of my Dad.
Aww, that’s so nice. Did he have a favorite variety?
Not to my knowledge. But they always started returning to life around his birthday, so that’s why I associate them with him.
Dusita’s Cavatina for me today and last purchase, although only a decant. Yup, I’m rolling around in a LOTV patch..
Happy Friday!
floragal, I’ve never tried the Dusita line at all, but I love all LOTV scents. Enjoy your metaphorical roll in the flowers, and have a great weekend 🙂
I’m wearing The Time, by The House of Oud. I don’t know if it can be connected to the CP or not.
Oh I’m pretty sure it can!
Happy Friday! I’m wearing a full priced blind buy and possibly my most rewarding blind buy ever – Roberto Greco Rauque. I trusted the look on Persolaise’s face when he smelled it for the first time and said it would immediately make his Top 10 fragrances of the year.
I think Our Lady was particularly happy with me that day🥰
Brave! and successfully so
💃💃💃
Isn’t it great when a blind buy works out?
I’m sure there’s something better but it’s close to “nothing better”😋😋😋
Scent twins!
Hi Twin! We smell good!
Gotta love it when a blind buy works out!
I see rave reviews on this. It must be good!
Wearing another Nicolaï unsniffed buy, Eau d’été, another unsniffed purchase, and one where I’ve actually finished the first bottle.
Love that one!
I also finished a small bottle of that one and then got a travel spray that I’m working on now. It’s very nice, especially in the summer. So it’s appropriately named!
Another spring day so another day of Dioressimo.
🙂
Makes perfect sense to me!
Chance Splendide
I didn’t purchase but it fits the CP because I want to purchase. It is easy to wear, youthful, and I could go through a bottle easily.
Do it!
I’m in IA Telegrama, my most recently purchased fragrance that wasn’t a BUB. Still mulling Profumum Roma Arso, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Getting ready to bake some banana bread, and later on will tempt the rain gods by setting up the patio umbrella. Happy Friday!
Hope you got to sit under the umbrella in the sunshine SheriG!
Not compliant, but happy birthday to Donatella.
SOTD is sample from yesterdays’ outing, SMN Incenso. Beautiful.
Bois Talisman was great upon application – but by the time I got to my car it was over the top wood and sweet. The new privee is only in middle east right now.
BOTOX DAY – yay! Gotta be a bit plumper for turning 72 next week.
Enjoy your botox apsara! And your birthday of course 🙂
Definitely get a gold star from Donatella, since I blindly purchased two from Nicolai: Muguet and Iris Medicis. Thank goodness I like both. Wearing Iris Medicis today, and while they don’t smell the same, it’s reminding me of Ambre a Levres.
I do love Nicolai, I miss a few but am minding my pennies. I’ve heard her Muguet is very pretty.
We must have been twins in another life, I got the exact same bottles about a week ago. Isn’t that a rare coincidence?
Happy Friday NST! Since Donatella is all about family, I raided Mom’s perfumes. Sotd is Mugler’s Angel EdP.
I love your take on the CP, and totally agree with you. Also how cool is it that your mom like fumes, too!
Thank you! Mom still has the bottle of Shalimar my father gave her for their first wedding anniversary in 1956, and I wore it last February when we celebrated their 70th. My aunt liked to tell the story of how I got into that bottle when I was 3 and doused myself in it. She couldn’t t figure out where the scent was coming from, then she realized I was reeking of it! You can’t turn your back for a moment on a toddler when you’re babysitting!
Bet your Mom’s Angel smells wonderful!
It does! I tend to like fresher cooling scents. I’m an Aries with an Aries Ascendent, so double fire. Instinctively for balance to that fire, I crave blue colors, water, cooling aspects.
As the OG gourmand perfume, Angel is surprisingly wearable in summer’s heat. Or, it is for me. Maybe that’s a bit of cooling kicking in?
💧💦🌊
HI all, my SOTD is Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune, from Guerlain. I wanted zippy citrus with a patchouli dry down and this works for today.
I’m off to a work event on campus, ttfn!
Hope the event was painless, SmokeyToes.
Testing a tiny roller bottle of Frankencense and Myrrh fragrance oil I got at Whole Foods, to take on the plane. It smells good enough, and I will put it in a baggie, and if it leaks all over I will toss it when I get to where I can buy any perfume I want! So excited. I have forced adorable hubby to pack early, and we will repack tomorrow and leave Monday sans last minute drama, hope hope!
Enjoy your vacation! For how long will you be gone?
Have a wonderful trip, meredifay!
Safe travels, and hope you avoid any crazy!
I’m pleased to say I’m doing the CP by wearing my latest purchase, which happens to be Arquiste Venice Rococo. A Mexican perfume but with an Italian name and the Versace house fashions certainly seem to fit the label “rococo.” I smell divine! I had my final checkup after recent cataract surgeries this morning and all is well. Whew.
Great news about your cataract surgery, Calypso!
Excellent news about your latest follow up appointment!
That’s such good news!
Yay!!
Commando presently because I had an RMT appointment this morning. Was going to switch to CP-compliant Lilac Brulée, which I got last week, but a) I’ve worn it a lot this week already and b) it’s turning out to be quite warm today. So I’ll go with PdN L’eau Chic, which is kinda CP-compliant as I bought it 6 months ago.
Crazy week but I wanted to stop in because I saw this last night: Jenny Hval (Norwegian musician) just released an album titled “Iris Silver Mist”. She’s a perfume fan! 🙂 Pitchfork’s featured review today: https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/jenny-hval-iris-silver-mist/
Oh isn’t that cool!! Have saved the link to read (and hopefully listen) tomorrow.
I love Carthusia Mediterraneo, today I am testng Rogue Perfumery – Absolue de Mousse.
And I don’t know yours…how is it?
For today’s cp, I would have liked to wear a fragrance created in 1955, the year of Donatella’s birth, especially Dana’s Ambush, another scent I loved as a teenager. But I have nothing created in that year.
So after reading about her life and career, I’m wearing a scent that is perfect for the famous ‘Jungle Dress’ she created that Jennifer Lopez wore for the 2000 Grammy Awards. YR’s Neblina (also launched in the year 2000, Sophia Grojsman, perfumer) is a blend of fruits/flowers/green/woodsy/mossy notes, whose combined effect is that of a very humid and steamy rainforest or jungle (per YR’s advertising for this scent). It’s strong, aggressive, kind of weird and one I rarely wear, but it seems perfect for that jungle dress so that’s my SOTD choice for today’s cp!
Happy Friday! 🌴and here’s that famous jungle dress:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Versace_dress_of_Jennifer_Lopez
Sophia Grojsman did green and floral perfumes so well.
That is a very Versace dress!
SOTD = Astier de Villatte Tucson
Another winner purchased sight unseen other than praise from Deva! Labdanum, immortelle and birch … and petrichor although probably not endemic to Tucson. I have never been there and I feel like I need to do so. Any recommendations and time of year to go?
https://www.instagram.com/p/DJKakKfRmNh/?igsh=d3JvZno4YzVxZWhn
And in other news, do you already have your RealID if you CHOOSE NOT TO use your passport or your birth certificate if you are flying within the U.S.? Apparently, NJ has the lowest compliance rate out of all the states … it’s not like we just heard about it last week! Also, I understand that women who opted to change their name after marriage seem to have a harder time proving that they had changed their name!
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/02/us/real-id-passport-domestic-flights.html?unlocked_article_code=1.EE8.jqea.bGc0UmD0y5Ry&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
Yeah, I’m one of those last minuters, and don’t have mine. I also don’t have any plans of flying anytime soon, so I guess I’m not worried. Yet!
I lived near Tucson during grad school and I’d say that the Sonoran Desert Museum is a must-do for anyone who visits. El Charro Cafe in downtown is another must-do in my book. I know it is famous-y and so might get written off as touristy, but the food is so good that it really is worth a visit. I daydream about their tamales and tres leches cake at least once a month.
I’ll also recommend a visit to Biosphere 2 while you are in the area because it is this cool, weird, overly ambitious project that somehow got made and somehow is still operational. It is worth watching the Spaceship Earth documentary before visiting to understand the history. But my graduate program was based there, so it has a special place in my heart and I fully admit my bias because of that.
Tucson is very dry heat, but even with zero humidity, 110+ degrees F is HOT, so I’d avoid visiting in the summer months. The rest of the year is beautiful though.
In Colorado, RealID is the default for getting a driver’s license. And after having dealt with license renewals in NJ, it was a breeze.
I’d agree with Vee: avoid Arizona’s hot season at all costs! I was in the Four Corners region once as a kid for vacation and hated the drive. And the vehicle we were in didn’t have A/C either. 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
I am happily wearing Guidance 46 and it reminds me of Donatella in 2 ways. First, it is a very potent fragrance, 1 spritz is enough for the whole day and beyond, even to the point of smelling it on clothes for weeks later. I think Donatella is someone who likes to be noticed. Second, this is easily the costliest perfume I own, so DV can be happy about that too.
I worked bit this AM but will mostly be enjoying Guidance 46 on my own as I complete some household chores.
Excellent choice!
I’m joining allo in Rauque today. It’s my most recent full bottle, my most expensive bottle, and possibly my luckiest bottle. By the time I got around to sampling Rauque like a responsible person, it had sold out. But one fine day I was browsing Luckyscent for who knows what, and saw Rauque pop up in the “just added” section, my eyes popped out of my head and I immediately added this re-issued bottled to my cart. A happily ever after perfume story.
Happy Friday, NST peeps!
This one must be a good one if you and Allo like it. It has rave reviews, but I notice it says it is quite masculine. I think I asked you before, so pardon me for asking again, but does it lean masculine?
My last scent is in the mail on the way to me. I impulse purchased Jones Road latest fragrance BKLYN while scrolling on Instagram.😬🫣 Its supposed to embody casual confidence, like your favorite pair of vintage jeans. Yep, I’ll admit it, I was influenced. It was relatively cheap and has notes that sound to my liking, so hopefully not money wasted.
I managed to thunk my bottle of Vanille Insensee this week, so one out, one in.
Thank you all for your kind words last weekend re my mom. I’ve been in touch with her everyday this week and she’s doing great!
Glad your Mom is doing great!
Oh good!
I wore my most recent purchase, Nicolai’s Muguet, yesterday for May Day. So today to celebrate Donatella I’m in a sample of Versace Pour Femme Dylan Turquoise. Light, bright, citrusy, woody thing that is easy to wear in today’s heat while I am stubbornly refusing to turn on the AC because it is too soon in the season. I get the guava note and I wish they leaned into it more, but this is supposed to be a mass market pleaser so I get why they didn’t.
Tea today is F&M Queen Anne.
I owe several people emails to confirm my Splitmeet participation. I will get them out soon — I promise!
Your SOTD sounds rather nice.
For a mass market guava note, I have a bit of Vera Wang Lovestruck in my Perfume Stash. It still smelled good the last time I tried it.
I love Nicolai’s muguet! I’ve been wearing Cavatina, since it is my newest.
Happy Friday, NST!
I’ve bought some fragrances, mainly partial bottles not at retail prices, so not sure it’s Donatella-worthy. So far I’m scentless today, but after a run and a shower, it will be Comme des Garcons Sequoia, one of those recent acquisitions. She is sure to approve of the eye-catching bright red bottle though.
Sequoia was a good one, nice pick.
Time for me to get to work on some new haiku for 2025!
It’s a stunning spring day here along the Front Range. I’m getting a break from the afternoon showers today, and temps are in the mid 60’s. Simply gorgeous.
SOTD = Cartier La Panthere Etincelante EdP. It’s the last bottle I purchased that I have in hand. Plus bottle pr0n; it’s a black panther head! The juice smells almost identical to the sample I recently thunked.
You bought that bottle?! I am so jealous! Enjoy!
I found a 40 percent off coupon for FragranceNet and couldn’t resist.
Oh what a day. I meant to comment in the morning, then I started working and work has been crazy. So I’m finally sharing that I’m wearing my most recent bottle purchase for the first time, my blind buy amazing deal for Shalimar Millesime Jasmin. Thanks so much to lillyjo for calling out what a great price this was a FragranceNet. I sprayed it on paper when it first arrived late last week and didn’t really smell the jasmine. But this morning I was very pleasantly surprised at how intense the jasmine was. It was especially obvious after I’d coincidentally showered with Lush Flying Fox just prior. Good stuff, successful blind buy!
Loving the fact that LUSH brought back Flying Fox!
Me too! I wish they offered it in the smaller sizes too, but I’m happy to have it nonetheless.
As it sits a while, it seems to get even stronger. I thought it was quite light in the beginning, but it isn’t anymore, and I got it back when it first came out in September.
In agreement with Kris on letting it sit. So glad you got such a great deal!
I’m late and I am grumpy. It’s just been a non stop stinko week.
I’m wearing my last purchase for the cp. Bath and Bodyworks Pistachio Glaze. I got the travel spray when it was on sale for $6.50 along with the body cream. I sprayed it like a body spray and ended up gassing myself out. It’s been like 14 hours and I am still wafting. Lol.
It’s a dupe for Kayali Yum Pistachio and I think it’s pretty much spot on.
Sorry to hear that your week has been stinko.
Are you and/or your daughter feeling any better?
We are on the mend!
At least for that!
Sorry about El Stinko and glad you’re both on the mend!!!
In my most recent purchase of Yasmina from Kajal which is bold and spicy. Pretty sure I’m not supposed to wear perfume during clinic and I’ve got Friday clinic for summer term so this is my last community project for a while. Since I am on between term break, I went to the Denver Art Museum for a few hours this afternoon. Tomorrow farmers market season starts! Yay!
What did you see at the Denver Art Museum?
My most recently purchased fragrance is also a perfect fit for May Day: Parfums Dusita’s Cavatina, a muguet-based fragrance. It’s just lovely!
I will have to look that one up.
