PSA: the splitmeet is open for business!
Meanwhile, our usual open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the May flowers you're hoping to see after the April showers, whatever.
Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Miss Balmain EDT, gorgeous old school chypre.
Thanks for representing old school chypres today 🙂
Balmain scents work for me – I love this one, Jolie Madame, Vent Vert, Ivoire.
My favorites!
We’re having a cool, cloudy day here and I’m doing boatloads of laundry, trying to wash out all the regular laundry soap we’ve been using and replace it with clean/unscented (long story). Wearing Omnia Ambra (unironically) to enhance the activity.
Laundry twins! I switched to unscented a few years ago too.
I’d like to be ambitious enough to make my own laundry soap, but haven’t gotten there yet.😂
I will never get there. 😆
I’d never bother with making my own laundry soap! But I’ve been using unscented detergent for my clothes for several years now.
I’m in Sonic Flower from a travel spray. This is a soft beautiful Iris, but fleeting on my skin even in hajusuuri level sprays.
What a week this has been! Actually, what a month. My mom found out on April 1 that a breast biopsy came back positive for carcinoma after a lump showed up on mammogram. We have no family history, so it really threw us all for a loop. It’s been a whirlwind. This happened when they were in Florida, just days before they planned to head back home. Long story short, she’s back home and was able to follow up this week at a very renowned health system that people travel all over the world to. Lucky for us it is just a few hours away. I met my parents there on Wednesday for appointments Wednesday and Thursday, and when we met with the surgeon Thursday she gave my mom the option of surgery the next day. She had the surgery yesterday and did great! She is home and feeeling good. From all reports this was a small lump caught early-stage 1, grade 1. Now we wait for pathology to see if she will need either hormone🤞therapy or radiation. Chemo is very very unlikely.🤞🤞
On the bright side of all of this, I got to spend 2 days and nights with my parents.☺️ It’s not often that it’s just the 3 of us sans my h or kiddos and it was really nice.
Back home today and I’ve got some catch up laundry and cleaning to do, but plan on doing a fair amount of catch up lounging as well lol. Plus, there is sun!🌞
madtowngirl
– sending hugs and good wishes to your mom and family.
Thank you apsara! Hugs and good wishes much appreciated!😊
Hoping your mother will recover quickly, it sounds like the tumor was caught very early indeed.
Thank you Aurora! Yes, I think it was.🙏
So glad that your mother caught it early and is in such good hands (yours and her treatment team!).
Thanks allo!
Oh my! I hope the prognosis is good!
Thanks hajusuuri! Yes, the prognosis is very good! The surgery completely removed the cancer since there was no lymph node involvement. Now we just wait to hear what will be her follow up to prevent (hopefully!🙏🤞) recurrence.
Stage 1 and grade 1 is what I had 26 years ago so my prayer is your mom will have the good fortune I had. Hugs to you!
Oh thank you Kris! This is so good to hear! Hugs back.💕
Grateful you made such an excellent and long recovery Kris! 🤗😘
Stage 1 grade 1 is the next best news you can get. Hope that is the end of it.
Thanks Robin! Yes, that’s exactly what we were told at the first appointment- next best news.
Joining others in sending 🤗 🤗 and good wishes and prayers for a full recovery for your mom.
Thanks Laila!
How was The Smithereens? I read you won concert tickets?! So cool. I listened to them in college.☺️
Holy smoke. Talk about having your world rocked. Sending best wishes for your Mom and hugs to you.
Thanks Jalapeno! Much appreciated.😊
Oh my, I’m sorry to hear about your mom, sending healing thoughts, hugs, and comfort for all of you!!
Thanks SmokeyToes! Good to see you!👋
Glad it was caught early! I wish your mum a speedy recovery!
Me too! Thanks!
Whirlwind indeed! So glad things were caught early with your mom and she’s doing well. Enjoy your sun and lounging, hugs to you.
Thanks ringthing!
Gosh so glad they caught it early. Praying and sending best wishes for a full recovery! 🤗 Your Mom is going to have an extra special Mother’s Day in a few weeks I bet.
Thanks LL!
Best of good health wishes for your Mom!
Thanks lillyjo!
So glad it was caught early, and that you’re close to a top hospital.
Thanks! Me too!🙏
Very, very glad that the malignancy was caught early and treatable! Thank goodness for that. May your mom continue to handle treatment well and heal and come out the other side even stronger!
On a rainy morning in LA, I’m wearing Corsica Furiosa from Parfum d’Empire. It’s green and spring-like and lovely.
I used to love watching Angelenos trying to drive in the rain — it was the only time they slowed down!
I’m joining you in the rain but with FM Angeliques Sous La Pluie.
Oh, what a perfect choice!
I love this whole line! Smelling delicious.
My goodness, raining hard at the end of April in Los Angeles?
Going to take advantage of the cool day for a few sprays of Astier de Villate Ambre Liquide.
Deva described this well. It’s sheer and luminous. Enabler pin to her. 🙂
So worth it Apsara after the sun peeked out late afternoon. You could see all the way from the San Gabriel mountains to the ocean!
Off to the Met to see the Sargent & Paris show. Very excited!
A little shopping afterwards plus trying a new pizza joint. 😋
SOTD: Chanel N°5 Eau Premiere
Let us know how the Met is
How fun! I love Sargent! Have a wonderful time🌸
Wow, the Met is cool! I hope you enjoy the show!
Sargent show was fantastic!
I thought of you all upon viewing Fumée d’Ambre Gris, a striking white/cream painting of a woman perfuming herself with the smoke of ambergris.
Delighted you enjoyed it so much floragal!
I had never seen that one! For anyone who wants to see…

Songes
I am getting to the end of my bottle…
Finished Evening and Weekends 📖 a book I had to force myself to finish. It’s marketed as fans of Sally Rooney – but it is not even on the same level. The author tried really hard to be deep and edgy, but honestly I saw no point in it.
Next weekend I am throwing my first Derby party. If anyone has any easy dishes inspired by the derby 🐎 🌹 let me know!
Will you repurchase? Songs didn’t work for me, I smelled cumin but I know many love it.
It is one of her favorite scents so my guess is she will rebuy.
😀Ah, yes, I should have remembered.
I love Songes
I haven’t smelled a new bottle. Mine is one of the older ones with three bow.
Anyone smelled Songes recently?
Oh, the jasmine note in Songes is so swoonworthy! I adore some of AGs older scents, Eau de Camille, Charlotte, and Eau De Sud are all so beautiful.
Sorry to hear about the book, I recently had a few ‘meh’ books in a row, slogging through them wasn’t fun. I recently read and finished “Poor”, which thankfully, was uplifting by the end but boy was it a tough read at times.
Goutal is such a nice perfume house. I was sad when they closed their brick-and-mortar store here in the city. Also o read recently they discontinued many of their classic perfumes.
Oh, I hadn’t heard of the discontinued classic scents. How disappointing. I still remember the thrill of seeing the beautiful bottles for the first time, the aesthetic always pleased me.
Pimento cheese is a classic for a Derby party, Google the recipe, it’s easy.
Ohh, yes!! My favorite recipe is from Duke’s Mayo website. See below. I can eat an embarrassing amount of pimento cheese spread and also, grits, like an unhealthy amount. It’s worth the ill feeling tummy afterwards….

Today I’m indulging in an imaginary return visit to Paris in the Springtime in my SOTD Jean Patou’s PanAme, a fruity( peach and pear) floral (lilac, violet, and linden blossom), with base notes of sandalwood, oakmoss, and musk. According to Patou, Paname is the affectionate name Parisians give to their city and PanAme is meant to be evocative of the ‘Paris of lovers, the Paris way of life, hot croissants, markets, and checkered tablecloths.’ Quite nice but makes me long for a ‘real’ trip! And this is another fragrance I’ve had a long time and never knew had a lilac note (I don’t smell it.)
Completing our ‘pretend’ trip today was lunch at a wonderful charcuterie in my town, wonderful food and 🍷 in a casual atmosphere that really feels like it could be in Europe. A really nice treat!
Visited an elderly friend today living in a memory care facility. So good to see her; she’s doing quite well, but I find it so depressing there. I brought her flowers from my garden, several kinds of daffys and bright tulips, that really cheered her (and me, too). 🌹🌷
Relaxing the rest of the day and watching my White Sox on the cusp of winning a game for a change! Happy Saturday!
Laila, I didn’t know that about Paris and her nickname- thank you for sharing that background! I do adore that you matched your lunch outing to your fragrance! And so kind of you to visit your friend in memory care – I bet it was the highlight of her week! (Serious deposit in The Good Karma Bank there!)
SotD a few dabs of vintage Diorissimo from my leaky ’80’s “spray” bottle. This choice was inspired by my Lillies of the Valley which have burst into bloom. I have three large LotV patches around my back yard. I delight in this every year: a gentle breeze carries the fragrance unexpectedly as I walk or sit about in the yard. Other fragrant garden expectations for the coming months are my potted jasmine, which looks like it’s lived through the Winter, and some native milkweed (the tall purple kind) which has enthusiastically returned this year in one of my beds. I have a small back yard, and most of the sunny area has to go for the vegetable garden. But I try to find a spot for fragrant flowers. Oh, and I also got to sniff the first Iris of the year this week in a new area given over to them.
My neighbor has a large plot of LOTV and its fragrance wafts our way – they don’t bloom til well into May here so it’s usually warm enough to open the windows and indulge in their scent. I’ve had jasmine in a pot for quite a few years, keep it inside in the winter and outside in the summer on the little deck outside our bedroom. When it blooms, its fragrance fills our bedroom! ❤️Even in the winter, it might get a couple of blooms that are strongly scented. Right now, still inside, it has just 3 blooms but it smells lovely! Good on you for planting milkweed; we have several kind that we grow for the Monarch butterflies.
I think our jasmine would bloom in the Winter, too. However, with our plant-chomping kitties, we have to keep it under artificial light in our laundry room. Our porch plants tend to languish during the cold months – moreover, we had an attack of aphids this Winter. 🤢 I am excited about the milkweed. I saw two or three Monarch caterpillars last year so I am hoping for more.
Twins. Although I think I had a modern version. Finished my decant of Diorissimo today. And you back yard sounds lovely.
Hi Twin! We smell wonderful. 😻
Continuing with lilac this morning I chose Louis Feraud Jour, a pretty floral and tonight it’s Vanilla Diorama, a favorite for night.
I love Louis Feraud scents, he did a scent for Avon years ago that was so enjoyable. I still have a bottle somewhere…
So glad you approve of Louis Feraud, he was called the Couturier who loves women.
I found my bottle of Vivage, by Louis Feraud, it still smells as it should, warm floral/powdery musk with a chypre base.
Cote d’Azur is also another lovely scent by Feraud, powdery herbal chamomile/lavender with a touch of vanilla and coconut.
Hi all, my SOTD is Ines de la Fressange, I had lunch with friends and wanted something lighthearted and not too strong. It’s what I’d describe as a bright yellow floral with fruit (Peach and Aldehydes) in the top notes.
I’m quite proud of myself, I didn’t go overboard – I’m learning to have a small snack beforehand so I’m not starving.
Sounds like a great lunch
It was! We were celebrating a birthday and catching up with a former neighbor.
One of the gals was a foster to a kitty cat that we were going to adopt after we said farewell to Smokey Toes, but the prospective kitty had health issues that were too serious to make her adoptable.
Happy weekend!
Sotd is Oud Alezan.
My impression on Chance Eau Splendide was that it’s on the childish side but reports (read: ads) from major fasion publications raved and had me questioning my own nose, “do I really know perfume or is my nose broken?”. Then this ELLE article dropped and honestly, I don’t know if I can call it a praise but at least I know I am not alone! https://www.elle.com/beauty/a64581257/chanel-chance-eau-splendide-perfume-review/
It’s a very fresh fun fragrance.
Still in yesterday’s Eau Premiere but about to get into the shower after I contend with this morning’s dishes. Thinking of going to the maple festival a little bit later. The post shower contenders for my SOTD is Narciso Rodriguez, Lyric or Pleasures. Will be getting some teeth pulled tomorrow morning and will probably be commando tomorrow.
Oh gosh. Good luck tomorrow Dawn!
Hope all is well at the dentist, Dawn!
Hey All!
My SOTD is Murasaki, by Shiseido, powdered iris, galbanum, gardenia over an incense and leather base for another busy Sunday meeting with friends for lunch (Mediterranean) and dinner (sushi). I love seeing them but my jeans are getting a little snug!😂
I’m looking forward to being in Japan town, I love looking at the skincare and Daiso for kitchen trinkets.
I also love collecting these glow in the dark Sminski figurines. I might add a new one to my collection. Fingers crossed I find the one with a kitty cat, which is elusive so far.
I recently finished The Wind Knows My Name, Isabel Allende, it was very good!
Japan has such great kitchen stuff.
Hope you had two fun meals today!
Thanks, Robin – it was a fun day but boy, I was stuffed!
Tea Lovers: Stash is offering 20% off mint teas through today. Discount code MINTEA at checkout.
Sotd Abel’s Laundry Day with a layering of Eucalyptus-Mint shea butter cream because I need that spring optimism note it engenders within me as well as seriously craving some Eucalyptus note. I may need another DS & Durga Big Sur Eucalyptus sample since I’m out. While I may wear FM Angeliques Sous La Pluie when it rains, I do not wear Laundry Day when I wash clothes.
Wishing all NST a revitalizing Sunday!
Thanks for the code! Going to try not to use it, I have too much tea!
😆
I’ve been sick the last 3 days. I went to the med center this morning and got some antibiotics. I have to go back to work tomorrow so hopefully will start feeling better in a few days.
Yesterday I wore Salvatore Ferragamo Amo Flowerful. Today I am wearing Chloe Rose’s de Chloe.
It’s finally Spring here and the Dandelions are in bloom. Lol
I’m sitting on the deck watching my dog chase a lone butterfly.
Well, rats to that, lilly jo.
Hope you feel better quickly!!
Hope the antibiotics will kick in right away.
That sucks. You’ve had a rough winter and spring.
Feel better soon.
I hope you’re feeling better soon. Made me smile to hear that your dog was chasing a butterfly.
Lillyjo, please feel better asap. Hope the antibiotics kick that bug’s butt. 🤗
I hope the antibiotics kick that infection.
Oy! I hope you feel better shortly. Not a doctor but you seem to be going through antibiotics often enough that something else could be going on.
Get well soon, lillyjo! Hope that butterfly watching on the deck is as restorative as it sounds.
I hope you feel better soon! It seems another bug is making the rounds.
In RG Rauque today. I am “skipping work” today to take a mental health day. I mentioned to my boss i would do overtime today but am finding that’s not happening. Lol
Hope you got the mental rest you needed yvree!
Commando today, though I keep meaning to put on Ummagumma when I go upstairs. I picked up a FB of that and a travel size of Lilac Brulée at our local U.S. exclave yesterday…trying to keep them in business as one of the other receiving companies just went out of business.
Still trying to process the terrible event that happened in my city, not very far from my house, last night. We heard a crazy amount of police cars after dinner, and unfortunately now we know why. Not a good start at all to what is going to be a crazy insane week. I’ll have to get up at 5:30 or 6 a.m. tomorrow to go line up to vote, since I tried four times to vote at the advance polling place and each time the line was 90 minutes to 2 hours. So I’ve got to get it done before I spend an entire day and night at work tomorrow.
I heard about what happened in my news feed this morning. So d@mn senseless.
I saw the news this morning. And being close to you is extra horrifying.
Yeah, we didn’t go to the festival but we know people who were there (and fortunately left earlier). So sad.
So sorry your city had to experience that terrible event, and how frightening when it was so near. 🤗
Traveling this week, visiting family. Did a walking around a beautiful college campus with our son and his girlfriend and stopped in a chapel about to do a service. I was watching incense being prepared. I am not Catholic or religious at all but I was enthralled.
I wore Gentle Fluidity Gold but thought of Avignon.
Can you describe the incense preparation? That sounds like a captivating ceremony to watch!
Maybe “ prepare” is the wrong word, since the incense was already burning. An older man dressed as a priest in long gown – I assume he was but who knows – had a rounded holder with burning incense. A younger man (20’s), also dressed in a gown but different color, was standing nearby and inquiring about techniques for swinging the incense holder. It was like a younger athlete asking a pro advice on technique. I very much wanted to get closer and ask questions but I would have been butting in. The scent was much like Avignon.
Thank you Z2 for the description and details! Fascinating!
Avignon smells exactly like the incense I remember from Catholic high masses.
Happy Monday! I’m wearing one of my recent purchases, Penhaligon’s Heartless Helen.
I haven’t smelled Heartless Helen but it’s a fabulous name.
https://youtu.be/BnI9MdpaMjA?feature=shared
Here’s a song match
Happy Monday!
👍
Lillyjo, the fragrance/music continuum is strong either way you today!
Another Monday, albeit a beautiful one. The bright green uncut grass studded with dandelions and violets reminds me of an illustration from a children’s storybook.
Wearing Chanel Egoiste for understated elegance as I take WD-40 to my storm windows to try to get the screens in for some warm fresh air today. I smell way too classy for the job.
I have some of that same grass – I think it’s beautiful. So do my pollinators!
Sotd Desertland by Oribe for its Juniper Berries and Lavender.
Wishing all a good Monday.
Still enjoying your lavender scents?
Yes! Every night I used both the Lush Sleepy shower gel and lotion. My RHR is now regularly down to 60. Considering all my stress that’s a miracle.
Your scent sounds great! I love the smell of several Oribe hair products I’ve tried, but it’s hard to justify the price just for the scent. And product-wise, they are just so so for me.
I’ve never tried the hair products but Beauty Haviy sent me some fragrance testers and I really like them both, but Desertland’s juniper + Lavender is quite perfect for me right now with my stress levels.
Weather is very warm and volatile with possible thunderstorms and tornadoes. Needed a scent for hot, humid weather so went with Chanel Deauville. Used citrus shower gel and lotion too.
Have a good week everyone!
Stay safe Kris!
Thanks!
Hope your potential wild weather avoids you!
You are smelling great in Paris-Deauville.
I hope so too. Watches until 11:00 p.m. tonight. It’s that time of the year.
First stay safe Kris! Second have Mr K hold you close in protective loving embrace and that way you can both enjoy how sublime you smell today in platinum level triple layering!
No bad storms so we were fine 😊
SOTD = Astier de Villatte Delhi
Enabler pin to Deva whom we haven’t seen in these here parts for quite some time. I hope she and T-Rex are OK.
I have the 10mL travel spray from Aedes. It has myrrh patchouli cardamom and vetiver. Absolutely lovely!
https://www.instagram.com/p/DJALVTQRx4M/?igsh=OXpjbHBoeTl5ejFp
That’s a cute travel spray.
I wondered about her as well. She is usually present on here at least a few times each week.
Ooooooooh, those notes sound right up my alley!
I’m hoping she’s okay but just on a social media fast. For a bit she was off Instagram but she’s back on now, though not posting since March. So I’m thinking she’s just detoxing?
I am feeling a little better today and went to work. I left an hour early though.
From the purse stash my sotd is Do Son.
Glad you’re feeling better, hope each day you’re even better! 🤗
Keep feeling better!
Love your SOTD.
Glad to hear that you are feeling a little better today.
Happy you’re feeling better. Relieved you’re pacing yourself by going home early!
Wearing my new bottle of Muguet by Nicolaï. It’s gorgeous, a lily of the valley that is soft and pillowy.
Oh good, so glad it’s gorgeous!
Wow, 83 degrees today and bright 🌞! So much blooming in my yard – trees, shrubs, and spring bulbs, everywhere you look. I’m hoping 🤞 the threat of severe storms doesn’t wreck all the lovely blossoms so I cut several bouquets to bring their beauty inside just in case.
SOTD is YR Pur Desir de Rose from the Pur Desir line in the early 2000’s. I have the lily, lilac, peony, gardenia and rose from this line; they are all really nice minimalist inexpensive scents true to the flower. Today’s rose is spicy yet airy and very enjoyable.
But what I’d really rather be wearing is a fragrance that smells like the Korean spice viburnum shrub blossoms in full bloom right now. A soft pale pink and extremely fragrant, the warm breezy air today carries their fragrance everywhere as soon as you open the door. A search for perfumes with this scent note unfortunately yielded little and nothing I’m familiar with. If anyone has any suggestions, please advise.🙏
Hope you’re all having a great day!💐💐💐
Sounds like a beautiful day out by you!
It’s still 80 degrees @ almost 9 pm, I’m getting a little too warm and hoping those storms won’t materialize. Tomorrow will be in the 70’s, I like that better.
Some viburnums smell amazing.
I looked around for a viburnum fragrance a few years ago and found the same little or nothing as you 🙂
Isn’t that surprising? I’m not much of a floral person but this scent is absolutely intoxicating and I would love to wear it. How is it that it’s not found in perfume form?
Laura Tonatto does make one but I’ve never tried it:
https://www.tonatto.com/en/vaporisateur-100-ml/219-eau-de-parfum-viburnum.html
I am assuming viburnum itself is not extracted, so that might be the reason.
