Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National Pig in a Blanket Day and The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace. Birthdays: Anthony Trollope, Elizabeth Goudge, Willem de Kooning, Robert Penn Warren, Gabriel Figueroa, Barbra Streisand, Jean Paul Gaultier. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm getting ready for a long weekend visiting family, wearing Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.
Reminder: on 4/25, wear a lilac fragrance, if you have one. Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Pacifica French Lilac.
All cherry blossom and lilac trees are in full bloom in my neighborhood. Beautiful and intoxicating!
Happy Thursday! 🪻
Here too! The lilacs are just coming out.
They are fantastic! Enjoy their scent!
Twins!!!!! And hopefully triplets with Lillyjo!!!!!
Yay!
Triplets with you and cm8!
We are the Charlie’s Angels of Scent! Lol.
Lol! We smell amazing!
We are!!! Literally I think 🤔 well you already know that I’m a blonde lol
Are you Farrah, Cheryl or Shelly?
Charlie’s Angels of Scent! 🙌🙌🙌
What will you all be wearing tomorrow 🤣
🤣
Love seeing the cherry blossom petals shower down. It’s something out of an anime or manga series.
Absolutely, cherry blossoms have inspired various art and media throughout history. There are so many Japanese manga and anime displaying the beauty of the Sakura.
Becoming Led Zeppelin is excellent, at least my family thought so. It was interesting to hear from the band member’s different points of view as to the past. I want to watch it again and we will probably buy it on Prime.
I’m wearing Zoologist Hummingbird for it’s lilac note that I don’t smell.
This waking up at 5am like I have been lately does help me get a lot done. I’ve already got a start on laundry and made a pot of split pea soup with my leftover ham bone, for my mom. Her inability to swallow has progressed to where she can pretty much only eat soups.
Oh good! I will watch it 🙂
Sorry about your mom, but split pea soup with ham is good stuff.
It really is good stuff and it goes a long way.
Thanks for the review. I hope I can watch it this weekend.
I’m sorry to hear about your Mom.
Thanks lillyjo.
Split Pea with ham sounds wonderful. I had no clue whatsoever (until I saw the invoice) that a speech therapist is one who diagnoses swallow issues.
Actually it’s a variety of healthcare professionals that can include an SLP, otolaryngologist, gastroenterologist and/or neurologist. At least that was my experience during my externship at Beth Israel.
Thanks. Unfortunately, the rehab center where my mom went was too cheap to hire or contract out with someone who “seems” more qualified. Also, we are there for several hours a day — couldn’t the facility try to contact us? Nope, which is one of the reasons why I sued them (and won).
The speech therapist who has worked with my mom in the past was very helpful with food suggestions and ideas to help facilitate swallowing. Anything to help make food taste better in a pureed condition.
So sorry about your mom but the soup sure does sound good!
It is good, and so simple to make.
Soup is culinary TLC to me. Hope it comforts your mom and makes her feel warm & loved!
It’s one of her favorites.
Soup will not only go down easy but is so comforting as well! I’ll be making a bean soup with my hambone later (for now it’s in the freezer.)
Bean soup is so good with a ham bone.
My Mom used to make that soup (split pea and ham) every so often. I remember it was a lot of work.
Sorry to hear about your Mom’s situation. Hugs.
Thanks Jalapeño.
I’m so sorry to hear about your mom, split pea soup with ham will def. make her feel loved and comforted.
Thanks SmokeyToes!
Vilhelm Parfumerie A Lilac a Day
Sweet, heady lilac strongly supported by jasmine. I need to wear it a few more times to decide whether I really like it. The opening is wonderful, but afterward, something feels just a little off.
Have you ever hit “Reply All” instead of “Reply” in a work email? Today, I’m that person. Still mortified. Need to get over myself.
Yes! Oh my goodness, the recall function has been my best friend (though it doesn’t get everyone). 🙂 I hate it when I do that.
Thank you! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one here.
I use Gmail, and yes, there’s an undo button that usually saves me (though you need to click undo within seconds of sending). But this was a scheduled email, so I only realized what I’d done when the “out-of-office” replies started arriving.
Oh yes, and I accidentally text replies to whole groups too and don’t notice til hours later…
🤝
Oh gosh, more than once! And why is that sort of snafu never “job well done” emails? Those I always send accurately.
So embarrassing!
I’ve hit “Reply All” in situations where it wasn’t necessary. It feels horrible and really cringe.
Yes, “cringe is me” is the thought that won’t leave my head today.
That Vilhelm sounds like something I need to try. And yes, been there before with reply all. Oops.
I’m in Lilac Path by Aerin. I’m reminded that I don’t particularly care for lilac as a floral note. I have very few fragrances that are predominantly lilac, so I’m going to have to hunt for one for tomorrow.
Sorry for the reminder! At least it is not strong.
Still in the remnants of Carillon pour un Ange from yesterday. I’d forgotten how long it lasts. Not sure what I’m going to do after my shower today — I have a lot of perfumes that list lilac in the notes, but it’s in there with the kitchen sink. Maybe I’ll pull out one of the more random samples I have that lists it in there — Yosh Omniscient or Monsillage Eau Fraiche.
All the Tauers last a very long time on me!
Tauer perfumes last a super long time on me as well. They’re up there with TM.
This morning I’m twinning with Robin in Sur le Nil, from a discovery set acquired long ago and usually forgotten about. I’m enjoying it very much, but not so much that I’ll need any more of it. Only one lilac-bearing scent in my arsenal and I’m saving that for tomorrow.
Hey twin, although I’m sure yours has long since faded…as has mine.
Hi all, late start today, oof, and I need a stronger cup of tea…
My SOTD is Dahlia Noir L’Eau, by Givenchy. A bracing icy-green rose that reminds me a tad bit of Calandre by Rabanne.
I needed a stronger cup of tea this morning too.
Lilac week continues with Opardu from Puredistance.
You smell lovely.
Pacifica French Lilac
Twins!😀
👯♀️💃🕺
Another really good one from Pacifica that’s gone.
It’s still on their website
Interesting. It was gone the last time I checked.
Oh, I loved that one. So many are discontinued, that was a favorite.
It’s not discontinued
I’ve pulled out The Different Company Bois d’Iris because I thought I remembered someone somewhere saying it had a myrrh note. Not sure I’m smelling it, though the thought of iris together with myrrh is enticing.
I’m enjoying all the CP choices and the variety of lilac fragrances out there, but I’m not that much of a floral person and don’t think I own any. My favorite engagement with lilac is marveling at the stupendously gorgeous flowers in colors that soothe me as much as the pale purple blossoms on my beloved jacaranda trees which pop later this spring in Los Angeles.
Happy Thursday everyone!
I wonder if the jacarandas will be late this year due to the cool April weather we are having here in LA.
I love them, too.
Thank you, therabbitsflower for identifying the lilac/syranga. I’ve heard that name before but forgot. Mystery solved and more syranga sniffing to do!
Yesterday I wore Mitsouko and prior to the CP, I had no idea that it contained a lilac note.
Today, I’m going to wear a spritz of L’Artisan Rose Privée. It’s never been a favorite of mine but apparently it has a lilac note so I’ll give it some much needed attention🌸
Is the syringa that you and TRF talking about the same thing as Idaho’s state flower?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphus_lewisii
No, the Syranga is in the Lilac family but the flowers are more delicate, the tree/bush is more densely flowered and the smell is more indolic than regular lilacs.
Waiting for some dog shampoo to wash the dogs, so I am commando right now. With the temps being in the 80’s today and my dogs are looking and smelling a little yucky. After their bath, I will switch to Memoir after I take a shower. Maybe I can finish the Memoir body butter today.
For some reason, Memoir body butter sounds even more luxurious than the perfume itself.
Wearing Bulgari’s blue tea, with lilac-adjacent notes.
That’s a good one.
I’m in L’artisan’s Jour de Fete, with one spritz of Louvre to boost it. Love both of these fragrances but prefer to keep it spare-Louvre when applied sparingly has more floral notes. Too many sprays =loads of cherry, to my nose.
Driving home Mon I was just thinking-is this freezing rain when I saw the salt trucks out-so yes, still cold here. But I did hear peepers last night, and that’s a sure sign of spring! It was so cheerful and so unexpected:)
Freezing rain!! It was 80 here today.
Staying with Hermes today but went back to iris. SOTD is Hiris. Very beautiful!
It is, and such a gorgeous bottle too!
My bottle isn’t the gorgeous one. LOL. It is the clear bottle with the black top. However, it still smells great!
So you did get Hiris!
I did!
Lilac and muscs in Totally white by Parle moi de parfums, the only one in that line that I love (I haven’t tried all of them). It’s very comforting.
Great name too.
It’s 72 degrees and mostly sunny here. I am wearing Pacifica French Lilac.
Yesterday I complimented a lady on her perfume. Her immediate response was “is it too strong? ” I think I made her self conscious. She was wearing DKNY Be Delicious.
Smelling great my friend! DK Be Delicious reminds me of my middle one. She wore that a lot in high school.
I hope you wear the Brigitte Extrait tomorrow!!! Then we can be twins again 👯♀️💃🕺
I will!
You have gorgeous weather today! Whoo hoo!
It was absolutely perfect!
Wearing Beige today. I haven’t worn this in ages and forgot that it has a somewhat prominent freesia note. Beige was my first Les Exclusifs purchase (back in the EDT days), bought rather hastily and I kind of regret it. But the price back in 2015 was so laughably low compared to now!
Oh, that is one I don’t think I have tried. Wish I had something I could trade with you but I only have some samples right now.
I think you might like Beige. It’s a honeyed warm floral. I’ll email you!
I wish Chanel would have given that perfume a name besides “Beige”.
It does seem like kind of a boring name.
Like I mentioned yesterday, today I’m wearing Lilac Dream, the discontinued lilac perfume from Marissa Zappas. Unfortunately, I do prefer this version to the reformulated one called Dream Sequence. It’s a truer lilac to me. But luckily, there are enough other good lilac perfumes that I’ll survive once my decant is gone. 😉
On a reading note, I just finished a book that made me feel like I was getting dumber just by reading it so I’m planning to read something well-written next. I’m between Yellowface by R.F. Kuang and Murder on the Links (Hercule Poirot #2) by Agatha Christie. Anyone read either or both and want to urge me in either direction?
I read Yellowface and got frustrated with the way it kept ‘ summarising’ the plot, as if reminding readers with a low attention span of what had happened ( like the catch up intro you might get on a Netflix series). Apart from that it was okay, but relied on telling rather than showing. But I’m in the minority and most readers love it.
Thanks, Kanuka. Good to be prepared for that in the book at least. I did read and like her Poppy War trilogy.
I may want to stick to Agatha Christie right now since she’s reliable.
I read Murder on the Links. While it’s not my favorite Christie or favorite Poirot, it’s a solid mystery. So, yes, I recommend it.
Thanks, Glannys. I know her writing is reliable at least, and I’m definitely the kind of person that has to read things chronologically even if you don’t absolutely have to. 😉. I’m thinking I’ll go ahead and start reading this one tonight.
Now, I am curious what you were reading.
It was the 3rd Housemaid book by Freida McFadden, The Housemaid is Watching. I didn’t think the first two had good writing either, but at least they were fun. The third one was just not good in my opinion. Somehow the main character became dumber in her 40s than she was in 20s. 🤔
I read most of her books purely for the fun and they are quick. Some do have pretty good twists in them. She is a physician so I am surprised at her simple writing.
Yeah, it surprises me that her writing is so simple, too. I have liked most of the twists in the first two HM books.
We had a frost yesterday and all the yellow leaves scattered on the grass looked as if they had been dusted with sugar. They caught the sun and sparkled. I think today will be the same ( it’s a bit dark to tell) and I’m meeting a friend later to go sketching in the botanic gardens. It’s really the opposite of lilac season, but the maples and poplars still look beautiful and the rowan and holly are covered in berries. I’m wearing Gabrielle essence . It’s a public holiday here ( Anzac Day) in remembrance of soldiers who fought in Gallipoli during WW1, and in all wars since.
Gallipoli.
110 years and look at the world today.
Sigh.
Double sigh..
SOTD is Aedes the original. I did get a sample of the reformulated one with a recent order, but haven’t tried it yet. Why did I not get a second bottle of this?
I love lilacs and they were plentiful in my grandmothers yard growing up, but it’s not a scent or note I look for.
Thank you all for yesterdays’ encouragement and support as I finally get to work on the baby cradle. They are hard to find and almost always falling apart. I have kept it wrapped tightly away from heat and light for decades.
I’d like to hear your take on the original Aedes versus the reformulation.
Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie
YR Pur désir de lilas which is very pretty but quite short lived, and tonight vintage Parfum Sacré, I think my densest perfume.
You smell wonderful! I love lilac scents and the Pur Desir de Lilas is one of my favorites, so glad I have a BUB.
Thank you very much, Laila, so glad you have PDDL too. That YR series was so good, I have also mimosa, Pivoine and Fleur d’oranger, equally good.
Frozen cherries remind me of a favorite ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s. Been a while since I’ve had it.
I bet that ice cream is good.
Ben & Jerry’s does good stuff.
SOTD = Scents of Wood Vetiver in Bloom EDT
Very very nice: light musky woody floral (with lilac!) vanilla vetiver and patchouli.

I’m ready for tomorrow as long as I don’t change my mind, which is very possible.
I know I mentioned it here several times already: I am CONVINCED that my iPhone listens to my conversations, even the ones where I am not even talking to anyone in particular (OK since I don’t answer back). Anyway, I don’t think it’s free but if you subscribe to the Wall Street Journal, you can read it for free. It expands on how one can erase yourself from subscriptions, some free and others for a fee.
https://www.wsj.com/tech/personal-tech/personal-information-privacy-deleteme-2ceea2ad?st=r4E5WM&reflink=article_copyURL_share
I have an Android phone, and it creeps on my conversations too. I can only imagine what would happen if I ever linked my phone and laptop together!
I’m sure my android is listening too.
A warm summer-like day with lots of 🌞. I’m still in green mode here; lilacs will come later.
SOTD is one I bought years ago on clearance at our local supermarket for $5, Coty April Fields. Cucumber and ivy midnotes somehow combine with a smattering of fruit, floral and woodsy notes to produce a delightful tangy green scent that smells just like new-mown grass with a tiny bit of a fresh celery note – very enjoyable and perfect for the day.
Took the 2 older sisters – Beautiful 😻and Pretty 😻 – for their annual checkups and they did well. 🙏 It’s hard to believe they will be 10 in late summer. Time goes by too fast!
☮️
I loved April Fields! I preferred it over Vanilla Fields.
Huzzah for good kitteh checkups! Hope you have more healthy years with them.
So glad your two cats are healthy.
I’ve had lightning alerts on my cell phone for a good chunk of the afternoon, and even heard a few rumbles of thunder. So it’s a good day to stay inside and do a load of laundry.
Got to smell the lilacs in bloom here on the way to the mailbox, before the weather turned. Happy happy joy joy!
Safe travels Robin!
SOTD = Cartier La Panthere EdP. Thunked the sample today!
Definitely best to stay indoors during lightning!
Yeah. Colorado is #3 in the US for people getting hit by lightning.
Sty safe!
No worries! The bad weather moved out a couple of hours ago.
Safe but slow…the traffic in DC has just gotten horrendous. But I am here safe and sound, and glad the bad weather has passed you by!
Ew, I remember DC traffic being horrid each time I was down in that area.
My brother had a bit of hail yesterday afternoon. Fortunately he didn’t have anything damaged.
Hail in April, ugh!!
Weather sure is interesting in Colorado😀
Yep! You can have all 4 seasons in one day here. 🤣
