The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 24 April 2025 15 Comments

Very much not my lemming, but presumably it is somebody's: the limited edition Infra Luna 2.0* from Byredo. "[...] Taking inspiration from the insect world and transposing it into bold industrial design, experience, form and function intersect with the INFRA LUNA 2.0 desk lamp, the second collaboration between Ben Gorham and [light artist] Benoit Lalloz. [...] In a hybrid project combining scent and sculptural light design, the surprise is visual but also olfactory. Playing with temperature to release the scent of the candle placed underneath - the heat from the lamp’s halogen bulb melts the candle wax - has a spirit that is part lab, part installation. Creating a gentle halo of light and an additional halo of scent, the INFRA LUNA 2.0 is as inventive as it is intriguing." €2500, includes bulb but not candle, available in pink or silver. [*There was apparently a 1.0 version of this lamp back in 2022; I missed it.]

My sister gave me one for Christmas. I love it. Fits nicely on the top of headboard and gives great light for reading. At half price may get another one.

I have a candle warmer, but it’s a plate type. Feel safer with it than burning candles. But for 2500 euros you can buy a lot of warmers and expensive candles.

As the listing says, it’s created by a well-known artist whose products normally sell for thousands anyway – the price seems to be in line with his other work & they always sell out so someone must buy them.

Just a reminder – this is a site dedicated to companies who sell for several hundred dollars scented water/alcohol that often costs less than a dollar to make – margins on perfume are way higher than the margins on things like this !

The old 4-H’er in me popped up and said, I could make something like that! Then I heard my mother’s voice gentlely murmur, “Dust-catcher,”!, and I let the thought fade without generating any little preliminary sketches. LOL.

If you buy this they send you a voucher code for a free candle so technically a candle is included in the price.

Hmm, they said they were “taking inspiration from the insect world”!
