Tuesday scent of the day 4/22

Posted by Robin on 22 April 2025 108 Comments

It’s Tuesday and Earth Day (the 2025 theme: Our Power, Our Planet). RIP Pope Francis. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Prosody London Lissom Linden. Tea at the moment is Tali's Masala Chai from Art of Tea.

Reminder: on 4/25, wear a lilac fragrance, if you have one. Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Botanic Garden Coffee Pot ("This delightful Botanic Garden Coffee Pot features a beautiful Garden Lilac motif and makes a stunning addition to breakfast time") is £79.50 at Portmeirion UK.

Wearing Clinique Happy today. Has anyone shopped the Fragrance Shop? Craving a bottle of Apres L’ondee and the price is more of up my alley. I am just wondering on how legit they are.

From the looks of it, it’s similar to that and Beauty Encounter.

It should be fine. I have used fragrance net and there is another website that I bought Encens Mythique off of that was good, Jomshop or something like that..other NSTers use that one as well.

Jomashop is probably my favorite, but it’s probably because I have had very good luck from there.

Dawn-I did not see that perfume on Fragrance Shop and I am not familiar with that site, but there are a few other sites that have it for a reduced price.

Haven’t heard of The Fragrance Shop before, so I know nothing about them.

I did just recently get something from Jomashop. Their package tracking was first rate.

Morning! I’m in eau d’Hadrien EDT, plus I can still smell some Songes-must be in my hair from yesterday. Still love both of these fragrances decades after I started wearing them. Hope the Easter Bunny found everyone.

Thr Portmeirion coffee pot grabbed my attention straight away, Robin – just gorgeous. I love Portmeirion – I have a planter pot which a friend gave me when she was leaving the area, her mother had given it to her as a house warming present. I told my friend I couldn’t accept it, it was far too expensive a thing to just give me – she had absolutely no idea what her mother had given her & was astounded when I told her how much it was likely to have cost!

Isn’t that pretty? They did not have a teapot with lilac in this collection, although there are also some nice lilac mugs, and a matching tea cosy 🙂

and the planter must be so lovely!

    Love the lilac coffee pot!

I’m wearing Royal Bain de Caron today. I suspect many people forget it has a lilac note, but I find it quite noticeable.

I also layered it over Korres Lilac Smoothing Body Milk. Robin and Jalapeno, I remember you were interested in it yesterday. It’s a new product for me, but I’m very impressed — it has a gorgeous lilac scent and absorbs quickly without any stickiness.

Twins! I just spritzed this on, having read on Fragrantica that it has a lilac note. Mine is a little off so I’m not sure if that’s making it harder to find the lilac but it’s lovely nonetheless.

You smell great, Glannys. This one goes all makeup powdery on me. Once upon a time I had the vintage called Bain de Champagne but that litigious Champagne region/appellation made them change it to Royal Bain. I think it was originally marketed to men, back when powdery fragrances like Caswell Massey Jockey Club were popular with the guys. My scent of the day is Theorema. So achingly beautiful. Doesn’t last long on my skin, alas.

Thank you for the explanation about the difference between the 2 names. I have the Bain de Champagne and had assumed they just shortened the name but I should have guessed the French would have the final say🇫🇷

Hi all! My SOTD in honor of Earth Day is Tiempe Passate, by Antonia’s Flowers. This reminds me of a beach on Eastern Long Island, the smell of sea salt in the air, clementine, amber, and rock rose.

I hope everyone enjoyed a lovely Easter. I ate far too much! I made my mother’s lemon marscapone cake, and kept going back for another slice.
Oof. The icing is marscapone and heavy whipped cream. My system hasn’t recovered. 😯

        Next time!
For anyone interested, the recipe is:
        1) Bake a box of yellow cake mix (follow the box directions), bake in a 9×13 lasagna pan for the recommended time. *
        2) Once done, let cool for 10 minutes, poke holes in the cake top with the handle end of a wooden spoon.
        3) While the cake is cooling, make a batch of lemon jell-o, pour over the top of the cake.
        4) Refrigerate for 1 hour
        5) After one hour, remove cake from fridge and spread 1/2 of a jar of lemon curd over the top. I like Bonne Maman, put back in the fridge.
        6) Mix a large box of vanilla pudding (instant, not cooked) in 3 cups of milk, and pour over the top. Put back in the fridge.
        7) Whip 8 oz of heavy whipping cream, 1 cup of powdered sugar, and one teaspoon of vanilla extract* until soft peaks form. Then add 8 oz of marscapone cheese and whip until hard peaks form.
        8) Layer the whipped mixture as the last final layer on the cake.

*To bump up the cake flavor, I add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the cake mix
*To bump up the icing’s flavor, I add a pinch of salt.

It’s best if it’s refrigerated overnight.

Popping in between routine doctor’s visits today, to be followed by lunch with a dear friend. Wearing Donna Karan Cashmere Mist, it’s my default appointment scent, not too heavy but still pretty. Later, I might change to Kyoto for the calming aspect. For some reason, I’m only sleeping 5-6 hours a night and it’s catching up with me.

For Earth Day I am in Songes
Though the company has changed present day, Goutal’s roots however are in artisanal French perfumery, which often values craftsmanship over mass production.

I feel the same way about this house. I’m also astonished when UI think-Annick Goutal was suffering from breast cancer as she worked. So she was in pain and enduring treatments, and still made really beautiful scents. You smell great, and you’re living up to your username 🙂

SOTM is Maison Crivelli Rose Saltifolia, a lovely beachy/salty fresh rose. Foxbins, if you happen to check in, this is another house that does small bottles. Despite the slightly Italian-sounding name, they are based in France.

Today’s SOTD is Anatole Lebreton L’eau Guillerette, over Fzotic Toasted Lilac soap. I’m getting an interesting cool outdoor air note in this today that I didn’t get when I first got the sample in Germany…maybe that’s some of the white musk as it is a bit reminiscent of the old Body Shop white musk soap I used in university. And I’m getting more LOTV than lilac today. (My lilies of the valley are up but not blooming yet outside. Looking forward to the blooms!)

Sotd Valley of Flowers for Earth Day.

Yesterday Sotd Encens Mythique for Pope Francis RIP.

Back to hospital. Spying out folks to be kind to has been a balm. And more than once someone has tried to cheer me up.

No lilac scent. How is that possible as I love lilacs in a garden?

Love this: “Back to hospital. Spying out folks to be kind to has been a balm. And more than once someone has tried to cheer me up.”

Yesterday while walking to my car (a long ways off) and after multiple other mishaps, my heavy grocery bag fell apart and my hat blew away, and I was trying to figure out what to do. A woman came up to me and handed me an empty bag that she had just bought. That little kindness made my day.

I heard it will probably start a few days after Francis’ funeral (which is on Sat) and they will be sequestered as long as it takes, with several confidential ballots a day. We just saw the movie Conclave last week so it was really helpful to get a sense of how the process works (as well as what goes on behind the scenes).

Happy Earth Day! Mr. SP and I just made multiple camping reservations for the summer which seems appropriate for the day. (Now for the ferry reservations…) We are out of town for the month but if I had all my fragrances with me, I would wear En Passant for the CP and for the spring day. As it is, I have on a sample of Lubin Epidor, a sweet white floral to my nose, and very pleasant.

Happy Earth 🌍 Day! Sun and clouds and temps in the low 70’s, a nice one! My SOTD is the last few drops of the long d/c YR Ode a la Vie – an ode to life on Earth Day! With green (lots of galbanum for those of us who love this note), floral, woody and and watery notes, it’s a good one to celebrate not only this special day but also wholly appropriate for tonight’s Go Green book discussion, The Great River, a history of the Mississippi River. It beautifully, and sometimes very sadly, emphasizes the importance of ‘interconnectedness,’ a concept that Native Americans understand so well and live by but so many of the rest of us fail to grasp. A great read!

Had a nice Easter with my son and his family; I really enjoyed visiting with the grandtwins – the only grandkids I have – I hadn’t seen in awhile. HS seniors, they are on the cusp of making their final college decisions – how can that be? But I’m proud of them and look forward to sharing in the next phase of their life’s journey.

RIP Pope Francis. What would our world be like if more of our leaders lived their lives as he had?😇

Relaxing this week after all I did last week – no cooking for me! Just being grateful for everything I have and enjoying the greening outside my window, flowering shrubs, and lots of tulips, daffys, and hyacinths in full bloom. 🌹🌷🪻🥀

      Happy Earth Day Laila! 🌎🌍🌏

I agree with you about how Francis lived and lead, even down to avoiding the red shoes and living in modest guest quarters!

I’m wearing Sweet Morphine for work tonight. Maybe it will make being here less painful. Lol.

Anyone know how Deva is doing?

That’s right – where’s Deva? And she hasn’t been active on Instagram either. I hope she is just taking a break.

At one point, I think Deva was taking a trip. Not sure exactly what her itinerary is/was.

Is Sweet Morphine good? I like most of the notes in it. I am not a big lilac fan in perfume but love to smell them outdoors.

I don’t think I ever tried that flanker, but I did like Idylle.

Robin, it’s a lovely flanker, I remember Victoria writing that Idylle flankers were good, the OG has been underrated imo.

In other news, there’s quite a few interesting articles in the New York Times as well as in the Wall Street Journal. Here’s one on dementia. I know, not the most brilliant of topics but I know some here have mentioned either having had a relative with this or are in the throes of caring for one.

Towards the end, I wasn’t sure if my Mom recognized me or not. I know she thought my brother was her nephew on at least one occasion.

      It’s gut-wrenching.

It was indeed. I cannot fathom what goes through someone’s mind when this happens.

Both my grandma and mother had Alzheimer’s and a lot of my nursing work was educating family and staff about the disease. That is why I now volunteer doing educational sessions for the Alzheimer’s Association in my state. It is a very difficult disease to watch as it progresses. My husband had never seen it before until he watched my mother. He now tells others about getting support if they need it. Even three days before my mother died, she seemed to know us. Though she did not say our names, she did put her hand up to our faces. It was so moving. She never opened her eyes again. I will never forget it.

I finished off a very old decanted sample of En Passant, and it was so rich and lovely. The green notes stood out at first, almost lily of the valley like. Then it quickly became the most realistic lilac perfume, even more than I’m used to with EP. So nice, and our lilacs have just started blooming here. 💕

      You smell absolutely lovely!

As a fellow Seattleite, I’m curious if you have smelled any of the light purple lilacs that have more delicate flowers that other lilacs and smell more jasmine than lilac, per se. There’s an indolic note I don’t get with other lilacs.

Oh yes, are you talking about syringa? I think Korean lilac is what it is referred to as well. I love those too and agree they’re much less traditional lilac and more indolic floral. They’re not as much in bloom around here yet so I haven’t smelled any since last year. But some of the bushes I passed on my walk today are starting to bud!

Next time I am outside near the lilac bushes in my area, I should give them a sniff. Got distracted this afternoon while checking the mail and forgot.

Doing at-home errands today. Taking care of a load of laundry, since my hamper was starting to get full.

SOTD = still hanging out in La Panthere EdP. I’m getting towards the end of this sample.
