Tuesday scent of the day 4/8

Posted by Robin on 8 April 2025 149 Comments

It's Tuesday, National Zoo Lovers Day, International Romani Day, and Jacques Brel’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am heading to the gym shortly and will pick a fragrance after. Tea at the moment is Cascadia Breakfast by The Jasmine Pearl Tea Co.

Reminder: 4/11 will be Toontown Friday...scent a favorite cartoon character. Suggested by Jalapeno.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Noritake + Studio Ghibli bone china My Neighbor Totoro teapot is ¥10,581 at Amazon in Japan.

My SOTD is Guerlain Mitsouko, and the cartoon character I associate it with is Ursa from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

She’s beautiful, refined, warm, and loving – but also hard as steel and downright ruthless when the situation demands it. There’s a deep sadness in Ursa, and I think Mitsouko captures that beautifully. Oh, and since the Fire Nation is inspired by imperial Japan, the fact that Mitsouko is a Japanese name feels like a fitting touch.

It’s still snowing here, and I’m really tired of it lol. Hopefully it will help with forest fire season but I’m sick of driving in it.

So to compensate I’m wearing the FM Dries van Noten scent again-slightly sour woods to balance out rich vanilla and spice. Have to admit had I known this was leaving the line I would have bought a full bottle. That’s ok-lots of beautiful things still available and new fragrances coming out all the time.

You smell fabulous although for me it was a No Go. For the short time I can smell it, I realized I was allergic to something in it that caused me to not be able breathe. I thought it was something else but when it happened again, I had to let it go …

Too many beautiful scents in the world to compromise your health. I wonder what it was that set off the allergic reaction?

Dries van Noten was something I did a 180 on. Not my thing the first time I tried it, but now I think it’s lovely.

SOTD is L’Artisan Legendes du Cedre from a very cute mini.

Temperatures have dropped again to the low 40s, so I am back to my cold weather perfumes until next week, when we are expecting nicer temps.
Coffee with a dash of cardamom and a bacon/cheddar cheese bagel for breakfast. Back now to remote work day.

    Happy Tuesday! 🌷

Starting my day in Bvlgari Au Thé Noir. Black tea, for sure, but with leather, tobacco, and even a quiet hint of oud. (I’m a coffee drinker, but if a cup of tea smelled like this, I could be enticed to switch.)

    Happy Tuesday, everyone.😊

I love many Bvlgari scents, you smell wonderful! I enjoy a good oud/leather note. How’s the longevity?
The OG Femme was a favorite, and Au The Blanc, which was my wedding scent (20 years ago, EEP!) 😯

Despite the richness of the notes, it’s not a heavy scent. I’ve worn it only a few times, but I’ve wanted to reapply after three hours; I’d say the longevity is good for an eau de cologne.

thank you for the information! Bvlgari are surprisingly long lasting even if they are sheer. Pour Femme au Fresh was another with great power but low sillage.

Daniel, you said starting your day- so you switch in the evening? Bedtime? I usually only switch for an evening out myself (like that divine, heady Jasmine Attar), but I am thinking of using scent before sleeping.

As with many marvelous fragrances discussed here, I am unfamiliar with your Sotd. But I trust that you smell great!

Well, my first cartoon character is an easy one: I’m wearing Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant in honor of Dumbo.
When I got up this morning, it was 20F, it’s now soared to 22F. But the sun is shining! We haven’t had clear skies for days.

And now for something completely different, a collab I didn’t see coming:

Sephora is running their spring sale through the 14th if you are in the US. I would like to restock my no 5 extrait since I am almost out. It’s not included the cards right now and I did spend quite a bit last quarter on perfume and have enough no 5 at the moment. So I am okay with giving this sale a pass.

About to get into the shower and wear Epic today after yesterday’s and this morning’s vintage BaV.

I’m wearing Ambre Russe today, taking advantage of the wintry temperatures to which we woke up. I’m associating it with Natasha Fatale of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons.

We had a minor (hah!) leak from our dishwasher which has led to needing to replace the floor (and remove the two old layers of flooring under it), replace or rebuild the lower cabinets, and remove (and hopefully preserve and re-use) the countertops. As I type this my kitchen is being noisily dismantled. It’s interesting to think about how different a renovation one has planned feels compared to one forced by circumstance. I feel so very grateful and fortunate that this is not due to a natural disaster and that our homeowners insurance will cover some part of the necessary repairs. Because of that, this is an inconvenience and not a catastrophe.

I hope the kitchen reconstruction is done quickly, it must be such a relief that your insurance covers some of it.

We just finished doing a bunch of remodeling and though I love everything, I am certainly glad to get rid of contractors and noise. You will be too.

I thought we were doing rainy scents this week not that my SOTD would fit that CP either.
I’m afraid I don’t like cartoons as a genre, so I will just wear what I feel like.
Wearing quite a lot of Bvlgari Pour Femme, which I adore. I’m so glad I got a BUB, as it appears to be discontinued.

If you like comic strips or anime, that falls under the cartoon character banner as well.

    SOTD = MAC Velvet Teddy

Confession: I bought a bunch of travel sprays and they don’t count because each one is under $100. The box is as yet unopened (I am giving it 24 hours) before I dig in. It includes the new Prada with rhubarb.

Today’s reading is on installing cameras inside a loved one’s senior housing room / apartment, esp. important if said loved one is under some kind of care services. Anyway, I think my mom’s worst nightmare is being in such a home and the siblings and I decided that it would be better for her to be there; this was pre-COVID. Unbeknownst to us, the place was tremendously understaffed which then forced us to hire a certified nursing assistant to be with her for 12 hours per day (8AM – 8PM), everyday. Anyway, not sure that a camera would have really worked for her but every little bit helps. That said, we were probably the equivalent of bridezilla but in the context of senior care.

There should be an owner’s manual for taking care of aging relatives. Everything seems straightforward until it’s your own family member.

In addition to it being Tax Season, here in my part of Colorado it is also Bug Season and Road Construction Season. Been seeing mosquitoes on all the window screens during the last heat wave, bletch!

Some good news, though. The package that I thought had been misdelivered or taken by porch pirates on Saturday showed up on Sunday. Turns out the FedEx person had marked it as delivered before it got dropped off. Annoying. My brother has said that it’s happened to him as well.

SOTD = Guerlain Iris Torrefie. It’s perfectly fits one Penelope Pitstop of Wacky Races fame. If you are of a certain age, you remember. She was one of the very first Halloween costumes I had, too.

And she wasn’t a dumb blonde either. Penelope could take care of herself.

I just read and was reminded how she’d dry her fingernails by hanging her hand out of the car, fooling other racers into thinking it was a turn signal. Brilliant!

          And Muttley’s sweet snicker!🥰

Wonderful choice! I remember Penelope Pittstop as the one whose car has a built in lipstick applier. Also, there seems to be some controversy regarding the dog – Muttley (my choice) versus Mazzei (feels wrong!)!

Now that you mention it, Penelope’s car *was* wearing makeup, too. Fitting that Penelope is a Guerlie Girl!

I always heard the dog referred to as Muttley. So Muttley it is!

Just popping in to say that I will be in North Carolina the next few weeks so won’t be on here much, but will check in. I have travel sprays of Happy, Gucci Bloom and Daisy that I will be wearing. Looks like it will be mostly warm so these should work. My Angel will have to be for a different trip🤣

I decided that I needed to wear some neglected perfumes so I came up with a system. I have a 2ft. Wide Bookshelf that has 5 shelves. Starting on Sunday I will choose a perfume each day from top to bottom. Friday and Saturday are free days. Today I wore 2 different perfumes from the 3rd shelf. This morning was Dolce Vita and tonight is LVEB L’Extrait.
