Tuesday scent of the day 4/1

Posted by Robin on 1 April 2025 153 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Welcome to April and happy April Fools Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking community project points in Prada Infusion d'Iris, OG.

Reminder: On 4/4, wear a perfume that makes you think of clouds, fog, mist or haze. It could be anything that feels soft-focus, silvery, or a little ethereal, or maybe it’s the perfume that wraps around you like a thick, scented cloud. Suggested by Glannys.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Blue Bunny Gaiwan Teapot ("Made from porcelain and finished with a charming crackle glaze, this teapot showcases a cute bunny in the distinctive Gaiwan style. Ideal for everyday use, its durable construction ensures that it's both practical and delightful") is $42 at Boulder Dushanbe Teahouse.

I forgot to post yesterday but spent the day in Rouge Perfumery Tuberose and Moss. It’s a more affordable version of Jubilation 25 and I am liking it so far. After my shower I will be in Kyoto. Not looking forward to getting some teeth pulled tomorrow. I think I will be commando for my appointment.

I forgot my rabbits today since I am trying to take care of things beforehand. You know, getting some laundry done, budgeting and bill paying, grocery shopping. But I was excited to get my Parfums de Nicolia sample set yesterday.

A cheaper version is worth finding! Wish I could find a cheaper version of the men’s, XXV.

Good luck at the dentist tomorrow.

I am wearing Kurky from a sample, it fits well with the CP. I really enjoy it, very comforting, clean, complex at the same time. It reminds me of something i smelled before maybe a vintage from my collection but can’t put my finger on it. It wasn’t easy to get the sample but after some insisting the SA finally caved in, horrible customer service at this store that opened near my house.

I don’t smell much the fruits, i smell mostly musks, vanilla and gummy bears. I find it blends really well with my skin.

    Happy April Fools Day Everyone!
My SOTD is Delina by Parfums de Marly.
I only pull this one out every now and then because it is so pricey. It is so good, though. This line makes some extraordinary scents in my opinion. Wishing you all a great day!

You smell great, Robin. Musk and iris are probably the best suited for this CP.

Today, however, I tried a lily and incense combo. I know many of you enjoy Passage d’Enfer, but – alas – it’s not for me. So instead, I layered Shanaan (sprayed randomly all over) with Baiser Volé (one good spritz on one arm). Both scents have a certain radiance (no fog here), but they feel soft-focus and ethereal – at least to me. Like lying on a bed of lilies, staring up at a blue sky with delicate, wispy white clouds. Today I learned their name: cirrus clouds.

I remembered my rabbits! And that was even before I looked at email and saw the very amusing April Fool’s greeting from Imaginary Authors. Their Cape Heartache, with its notes of old-growth forest and mountain fog, will be my CP choice later this week. But this morning I chose Kerosene Broken Theories … which turns out to be prophetic, since I formed a theory that the IA email was merely an April Fools Day joke. But it’s not! Bottle ordered. 😆

I decided I 85% think it’s real so I just announced it. It’s hysterical to launch it on 4/1 with an email that says Happy April Fools.

Remembered my rabbits! So far, SOTD is leftover PdN Saint Honoré from yesterday. Will see what I come up with after my shower.

I’m not prepared for it to be April already; I’ve got my Canadian taxes done (much easier) but my U.S. taxes are proving to be a nightmare, especially as I realized this weekend that I did my taxes in the IRS’ easy forms last year, and apparently forgot to save a copy of the file. They erase the whole system at the end of the year…sigh.

Been wearing more swapmeet goodies the last few days. Aesop Hwyl fits the bill for misty silvery fragrance, which makes me think of silent dark forests where your feet sink into earthy mulch and pine needles while you eat gingerbread (cloves!) , which circles right back to Hwyl. I really love all the Aesop scents and hand creams and soaps and their general botanical vibe. Hwyl is a very witchy fragrance, it is what I thought Mandragore was going to be and it would be perfect for Halloween.
But I also wore Etra Gomma last night, which while not an ethereal misty silvery wispy scent, is the softest of leathers. Smells like I threw a bunch of wildflowers onto a saddle, jumped onto the horse and took a leisurely gambol through the countryside in spring. Thank you generous NSTer who sent me this!
Today I’m going with Sung for Women dry body oil then EdT. Not CP compliant, but a beautiful floral jasmine that reminds me a bit of another 80s favorite, Anais Anais. Both are just so pretty. I’m not usually into ‘pretty’ in my fragrances, but these somehow work for me.

All those AG lovelies! I agree. I got my sister a bottle of Eau du Ciel once and she smelled marvelous in it and we were both sad when it was gone. I can’t exactly remember Folavril. I had somehow put it in a similar vein as Piment Brulant in my head.

I’m still sad that so many amazing Goutal perfumes are discontinued. I’m still hunting for bottles of Quel Amour edp, but it seems to be long gone now.
I remember Goutal rereleased Eau de Ciel for a limited time and it sold out so fast, that I missed out getting a bottle. I have seen it being sold in Ebay for a ridiculous amount of money, but I am not that desperate.
I don’t understand that Goutal discontinued Folavril. It was Annick’s first perfume and should still be produced as a notch to the beginning, but I guess it’s all about what is selling.

It’s a mid-range violet, I’d say. I compared it also to the Hush Hush edp (I got the trio when it came out, couldn’t decide!)

To me, the edp gives the most violet out of the trio. It’s similar to the violet in Guerlain Meteorites edt (I have the older bottle).

        Good one with Voices Carry!

LTSG I really love it. It’s a strong scent-not like fill every inch of space. It’s leather and quince and rose. I don’t find it changes much over time. I will still be able to smell it 24 hours from now, even after showering. I think it’s beautiful and I even loved the advertising, which showed a woman dancing wearing a leather dress. Her hair was flying like a horses’ mane would fly when you were galloping. I have nice memories of horses from when I was less than five years old so it’s possible the entire campaign appeals to me, not just the scent. I think it received favourable reviews when it came out but seems to have died down a lot in popularity since then. I’ve been wearing it since it came out and it still feels really special to me. Have you tried it?

I totally forgot the rabbits today which is nothing unusual. Oh, well.

SOTD is Dame Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood. I feel like I am in a cloud of rose petals. Maybe partial points for the CP. I am still not too happy that this was discontinued, but I still have a lot left so I think I will be okay for quite a while.

No points for me today, since I went for Diptyque Do Son, which for me evokes images of clear water and white flowers floating on it.
But I got some ideas for the CP from you and I will probably participate in the following days.

SOTD = Hermes Eau des Merveilles Bleue

Wonderful and the 30mL size is supercute!

I may have mentioned that an unknown person’s car was parked on my Reserved parking spot, designated by an R in front of the number. I came to find out it was my neighbor’s nephew who had come to help his aunt, who apparently either broke her foot and/or ankle. Long story short, I had to get the Management company involved (they do not know whose car it was) AND I needed to teach the person to never park on my spot. I have not seen the neighbor for a few weeks and finally saw her this morning. Well, wouldn’t you know it, she DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE my friendly question of how’s your foot? Therefore, since I already did my part, the ball is now in her court to talk to me. By the way, she NEVER apologized – granted it’s her nephew’s “honest” mistake, but would it kill her to apologize? I was wronged!

As a palate cleanser, here’s a nice little picture …

A nice, sunny daywith white clouds but still on the fresher side(13C).

    Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie.

Chose a freebie mini almost finished, I Profumi Di Firenze Osmanto, a very pleasant freshie which explores the fruity side of osmanthus, no leather that I can detect. Tonight it’s Weil Suki Essence, smelling delicious as usual, incense, plum, cinnamon and dates mostly, the oud listed is almost undetectable.

We’re still out of town (and will be until end of April). I’ve got a few bits and pieces of perfume with me. One of those bits which is my SOTD just happens to work well for the CP: Guerlain Iris Torréfié (a decant from a lovely NSTer, BTW). Iris fragrances, generally, make me think of mist and clouds. This one, in particular, has iris, violets, musk, powder, a bit of leather and a very tiny bit of coffee. Gorgeous. I don’t know why I don’t hear about it much?

Happy to be back (at home and on NST both) after what felt like a full month of work travel in March. SOTD is a sample of Frassai’s Ajedrez. It reminds me of an older brother to Bottega Veneta. Similar supple leather and powdered floral vibe, but with a lightly dampened — almost creamy — tobacco note. If BV is the leather handbag, this is the leather wallet sitting on a mahogany dresser next to an unlit pipe. Have to say I’m impressed and will explore more Frassai as a result. I don’t think I’ll need more than my sample of this. But time will tell.

Tea today is Clipper Ships Scottish Grey, which is a beautifully complex and balanced tea compared to the random english breakfast tea bags I had been pilfering from hotels and conference rooms recently.

Some scent-related events from my travels:

I got to meet Arielle Shoshana at her shop and she was nice as could be.

At a bar last week, a woman standing next to me smelled great. It was familiar but I couldn’t quite place it. She told me she had layered PdM’s Oriana (which was the familiar piece) with a spritz of Kayali Marshmallow. I have no talent for layering, but wow did that combo smell good.

Also last week, as my boss and I walked into the lobby of the Hyatt where we had a conference, he commented “It smells like a bordello!” Which led me to think (1) a “bordello”? What century are we in? (2) You know what a bordello smells like? and (3) I’m sure Hyatt paid a lot of money to have that scent designed just for them.

Testing Vetiverissimo today. So far it’s like but don’t love. I picked up a Fzotic sample set in January minutes before contracting a pernicious sinus infection that required me to be fragrance free for several weeks and then I got distracted by other things. I have only now broken into it.

-Monserrat (because grapefruit. and wet plaster.)
        -Lampblack (ink!)
-Ummagumma (because everyone keeps mentioning it)
        -au delà Narcisse (chypre!)
-Room 237 (vinyl shower curtain! +green)

Crazy mad windy today. The horizon is completely obliterated and if I didn’t know the Sandias were there, I wouldn’t know they were there. Took the dog out and got dust and sand stuck to my lip gloss! Gross! 🫦

Wearing the fluffy, cloud like Shalimar MVP, probably my favorite iteration of the OG ever. If you’re a very literal person, which I sometimes am, and you have Ariana Grande Cloud I think you should win the prize for this weeks CP. I do not have it, so will have try to wing it, although I’m sure it will tax my very limited imagination. 🙃

I don’t know that it gives me the impression that’s described for the cp, but it does have it covered in the name! I’m talking about my SOTD, Rain Cloud by Perfumer H. It smells like a continuation and refinement of her La Pluie for Miller Harris, and I actually prefer Rain Cloud. I compared the two some months back. So this made me happy to have an even better version of a discontinued perfume available to me. 😀

Yesterday I finished off a sample of Ånd Fragrance Får, which smells like a delectable lemon dessert except it’s got an overdose of litsea cubeba instead of straight up lemon. I looooove it and wish Indigo would restock the 10ml travel size.

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit for April Fools Day! There were a couple of events that seemed to fit right in. My brother said that there was a bit of thundersnow over by his house. I am about 15 minutes’ drive away from him, but I saw neither snow nor heard thunder.

Speaking of my brother, I hope his dentist appointment went well today. He was looking forward to it…

SOTD = Black Opium Neon. It’s chilly again, so I am wearing perfumes that suit the current temps.
