Thursday scent of the day 3/27

Posted by Robin on 27 March 2025 162 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy International Whisk(e)y Day! Also, World Theatre Day. Birthdays: Edward Steichen, Ben Webster and Sarah Vaughan. What fragrance are you wearing?

So far I have been unable to find either Eau de Gaga or Fame, although I'm fairly sure I have them somewhere. So today I'm in Mugler Womanity,* which Lady Gaga apparently wore at some point. (And in case it helps anybody, we did a poll on slutty perfumes in Lady Gaga's honor back in 2012, and if you need some extra reading, try Is Lady Gaga a feminist icon? at The Guardian.)

Reminder: 3/28 is Lady Gaga's birthday. Wear one of her fragrances, if you have one, or scent a Lady Gaga song, or wear any fragrance that you think fits either Lady Gaga or the perfume name "Fame".

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

*And adding later that Glannys says she also liked Marc Jacobs Daisy and Yves Saint Laurent Paris.

I’m wearing L’Arte di Gucci because of *House of Gucci*, where Lady Gaga starred.

The bottle of L’Arte actually pairs well with her look at the 2025 Grammys –

But the scent itself feels even more fitting for her look in *House of Gucci*:

Good morning from LAX, everyone. I’m on my way to NYC with a lot of my camera equipment in tow. I’m a photographer, and for the last four and a half years, I’ve been working on a project for my Vassar College class. As our 40th reunion approaches this June, I’m photographing as many of my former classmates as I can; the portraits will be exhibited at the college art gallery all summer long. Pretty cool.

It’s been quite a task; it’s never easy to convince people to sit in front of a camera, and during a pandemic it’s even tougher. But my fellow graduates, (including our most famous classmate, Lisa Kudrow,) have stepped up. I’ve photographed a bunch of them here in LA, but I’ve also traveled to Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, and up to Sonoma County for weekend-long “mini-reunions.” It’s been a great way to reconnect with these lovely folks, many of whom I didn’t know at school. And it just so happens that we’ve all recently turned sixty, so there’s an added significance and poignancy to the portraits. Sort of a class yearbook, forty years later.

This trip to NYC will add another 35-40 faces to the collection, which will bring to total to about 130 portraits. A crazy weekend ahead.

For today’s flight, I’ll be in Tauer’s “Une Rose Chyprée,” applied lightly.😊

What a great project! Enjoy your time in NY, that’s a lovely way to see old friends / acquaintances.

In case you find it interesting, but hope there is not a paywall…a similar project at Princeton

Daniel what an exciting project! Did I read properly that you’re going to be photographing 35-40 classmates in one weekend? I do hope you’ll post about your creative process during my the project if you get the time. Also will you be discussing fragrance with your subjects? Hope you have much pleasure in the doing!!!

        Thanks, LesLiesse!
Yes, very busy weekend ahead – 35 or 40 faces😳
        I’ll report when I can.

From time to time, I gush about perfume to some unsuspecting soul, fragrance evangelist that I am. (A few converted classmates along the way, but I try to rein in my fire and brimstone.😊) But never during the session itself: It’s best to keep the focus on the nervous/excited subject rather than the fragrant photographer.

We had very ominous weather predictions yesterday, so because I was scurrying around getting stuff done I didn’t have time to post. And I was very non-Gaga-like yesterday anyway, in Paris-Deauville. But today I’m channeling her in her Duets With Tony Bennett phase — dabbed Private Collection parfum behind each ear and on each wrist and inner elbow, as recommended by many an elegant lady. My attire is entirely inappropriate to that vibe, however. 😜

Those might be her only songs I have ever heard…I watched a video of Telephone yesterday because my son was sure I’d know it if I heard it, but nope.

Hope the weather is not as bad as predicted!

The predictions were dire — hail and tornadoes! — but it turned out to just be a rain storm, at least where we are. In fact, at one point it was sunny on the east side of our house, but raining on the other side. Oregon in springtime! 🙂

Saving my one Lady Gaga perfume until tomorrow. Today I’m in CBIHP Afterparty, though, which seems like it might fit in with her vibe? (In so far as I really know her vibe — I know the Weird Al version of Poker Face far better than the actual song, and I’ve heard Born This Way a few times, but that’s probably it.)

Weird Al Yankovic is a singer who parodies pop songs. So he sings “Polka Face” instead of “Poker Face”. Probably his biggest hit was “Like a Surgeon” back in the ’80s.

SotD Kelly Caleche edt. I selected it because today turned out to be “opening day” for me, as in first diggings in the garden. I went walking around late yesterday for some fresh air and started raking here and there. The soil was not muddy, so I decided if the rain held off overnight, I’d suit up and get some serious work done. I finished clean up (several hundred sweet gum balls and early weeds), then planted some kale starts and leeks. I love to use opulent and/or vampy scents when I’m doing yard work. 🙂 Kelly Caleche is more elegant than opulent, but it was very nice to smell as I moved here and there, and very Springy. No CP points today; not sure I think of Lady Gaga as the yard work type!

Aurora and Jalapeno: I’ve never tried the edp. I will say I had to double-check which one I had; perhaps because of its age, my edt has a very syrupy quality to the grapefruit note, that seemed heavy and more edp-like. If you want to try a sample let me know, kcl no space berry at the land of netscape dot net.

LesLiiesse, so sorry about what your family and your aunt went through but this sounds like the best possible outcome with her being so close.

Testing La Notte di Angelica from I Profumi di FIrenze because I like many from this Italian line and Stefani Germanotta aka Lady Gaga is Italian-American. This one’s floral, woody, and musky w/a tinge of fruit. A bit sweet for my taste but nicely done.

I agree with I Profumi Di Firenze. I love Spezie de’ Medici concentrato especially and was wearing Agrumi Di Sicilia only yesterday, very good citrus but some of their florals are lovely too, sorry LNdA is a bit on the sweet side for you; I think I have a sample.

I’ll have to try Spezie, onto the wishlist it goes, thx for the idea, Aurora. I’m often averse to sweet (unlike the bees) and my fave from the IPdF line is Ambra de Nepal and they have a Vanilla di Madagascar that is yummy too. The drydown on the Notte di Angelica has some nice woods and does not get sweeter with time so I like that!

    Seriously … so wonderful! 🥰

For tomorrow, I am pretty sure I got Lady Gaga from a swap BUT may suffer the same fate as Robin with not finding it.

I have been binge-watching The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. I also have a few others lined up although they are streaming subscriptions that have ads. I suppose I can either pay through the nose or just suffer the ads.

Not sure if it is still there but I must have saved this for a reason which I believe has to do with having the Hello Kitty version. Also, not sure if you can access it for free … I remember the Owala craze which I think is still going on but then again, Reddit no longer has posts in it, at least from my feed.

Am not compliant with the CP as I am wearing Splendiris today. Tomorrow it is going to be 80 degrees so I know I won’t be compliant. I think it’s going to need to be a citrus day. The weekend we will have snow and rain and in the 40’s. Typical March weather in the Midwest.

Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka. I think it would suit Lady Gaga.
I’ve been feeling a little depressed today. There was not much to do at work after I finished one important report and I guess that didn’t help.
Just finished my 5k run, after shower I may wear something calming, like Memoire d’une Odeur.

Trying Soleil d’Ikosim today which is from the Infiniment Coty line. This one is nice…in the realm of LDBS and the like. So far I have tried 6 from the line and am slowly closing in on the vanilla. 😁 All 6 are nicely done and wearable which, as someone who samples a lot of new fragrances, surprises me. I try lots of new releases from Luckyscent that I find lacking but these are decent though not worth the cuckoo price. None off the 6 have the overboard synthetic beast mode vibe that some of the poser niche houses seem to embrace. I am at the point in my perfume career 😆 where I am more interested in sampling than buying FBs I realize and the discovery set called to me like a siren to Odysseus without his noise canceling AirPods. 🧜🏻‍♀️ My flesh is very weak for discovery sets and coffrets…especially if they are actually called coffrets. 🤣

Thanks for the report on the Infiniment line! I’m such a sucker for a discovery set or coffret too. I finally had to admit to myself that I get way more mileage with a discovery set than with a full bottle, even if they’re not as pretty and satisfying to own.

    Smoothie is a delicious pear.

This morning was Historiae Bouquet du Trianon, a truly lovely floral, one of few tuberose perfumes I have absolutely no problems with. I always mean to explore Historiae further but I don’t think they have a UK distributor, my BdT is a second hand find, it’s a Bertrand Duchaufour creation. If you come across Historiae do give them a try.

Getting close to 80 degrees here today. It was definitely in the upper 70’s yesterday, and will be that warm again tomorrow. This March is turning out to be in the Top 10 for least snow.

Doing laundry today. No mountains, just ordinary loads. The big local news in Colorado is that the Sundance Film Festival is coming to Boulder starting in 2027. I shudder to think of the traffic that will result from it.

SOTD = Eris Parfums Delta of Venus EdP, from the Sample Stash. Fits the weather perfectly!

There’s been plenty of snowfall in the mountains, which is A Good Thing. Been some rain at lower altitudes. That’s why the snow total is low.

I woke up to moaning and groaning early this morning, my husband was having awful spasms and pain in his neck and shoulder. Poor thing. It took awhile for his doctor to get back to him, but now he’s finally passed out after taking the meds I picked up from the pharmacy. I hope it’s an uneventful night.

Commando today, but I just got some scents from the swapmeet in the mail, so I look forward to trying something new tonight. Can’t wait for the weekend!

Oops, I’m quite late for many people’s time zones, but today I did a comparison of Diptyque Essences Insensees Mimosa from 2014 to Perris Monte Carlo Mimosa Tanneron. I’ve loved my samples of the PMC, and I got to thinking I might want a bottle of it. But I have a bottle of the Diptyque and it recently hit me they’re pretty similar. So finally trying them side by side, yes there are some subtle differences in the opening, but honestly, afterwards the mid and dry down are super similar. Money saved!
