The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 25 March 2025 4 Comments

From Feret Parfumeur, Hyalomiel hydrating gel in Violette: "Feret Parfumer's Hyalomiel gel has gone through little change since its inception. The formula has been tweaked and a delicate violet fragrance added, but the packaging retains its retro-chic feel, and its effectiveness remains the same. The sun, the sea, hiking, repeated washing, the wind... have put a strain on your hands and feet. It's time for your skin to rebuild itself by gently eliminating dead skin. Hyalomiel provides softness and suppleness. Its hyaline jelly acts as a transparent protective film." 50 ml for $16 at Smallflower, where you'll also find Hyalomiel Rose.

Do we have anyone with highly allergic skin who could try this? My skin is fragrance shy these days and had been for quite a very long while.

I am thinking of ordering, but I don’t have highly allergic skin and would only use it on my hands anyway. But in case it helps here are the ingredients from Smallflower:

Aqua, (Water), Erythritol, Triethyl Citrate, Pentylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Polyacrylate Starch, Peg-40 Hydronenated Castor Oil, Mel (Honey) Extract*, Parfum (Fragrance), Citric Acid, Allantoin, Potassium Sorbates, Sodium Benzoate

      But New London Pharmacy says:

AQUA, PEG-12 DIMETHICONE, METHYLPROPANEDIOL, DIGLYCERIN, SODIUM POLYACRYLATE STARCH, PHENOXYETHANOL, GLYCERIN, PPG-26-BUTETH-26, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, PARFUM, DISODIUM EDTA, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, MEL EXTRACT,BIOSACCHARIDE GUM-1, SODIUM LEVULINATE, CITRIC ACID, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE,SODIUM ANISATE,SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE,TOCOPHEROL,GERANIOL.

The Feret Parfumeur site matches New London but also says they are changing the formula, so I’ve no idea which is right…

I like the more complete list with chemistry terms. Very helpful.
I have weird sensitivities, which I probably mention more than I should. I worked in biochem labs, and was exposed to various nasty things, including the toxin ricin which comes from castor beans. Castor oil is used in all sorts of things, lotions and potions. It literally makes my skin starting peeling off. It’s in lots of lips balms and less expensive lipsticks, and if I try one with castor oil, my lips will chap and start peeling within an hour. Obviously your mileage may vary, but castor oil is a “no way” ingredient for me!

Interesting, so either version won’t work for you.

I have no problem with castor oil personally.

I would buy the first list but not the second, because I’d want it as a lightweight summer hand cream and I don’t want the silicones.
