It's Hump Day and National Pistachio Day. Birthdays: Victor Hugo, Levi Strauss, Jackie Gleason, Fats Domino, Johnny Cash. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm starting in on the solar florals, with Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess.
Reminder: on 2/28, we're doing here comes the sun...wear a fragrance with a solar or "sun-warmed skin" note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello! I’m in Musc Ravageur, from the 30 ml bakelight bottle, which I love and wish was a permanent fixture for all the FM scents. It just smells kinds…cuddly, and good. No real ravage on me 🙂
I’m having a really good skin week. Sometimes I wear foundation and it doesn’t work-it settles in dry patches and doesn’t really cover uneven skin tones or disguise acne (I’m 52-just why, universe?). But this week all the products have been working in harmony, and it’s amazing what a life having my appearance in order gives me. If I knew who the Patron Saint of either Good skin or Camouflage was, I’d light a candle.
Ooh, Musc Ravageur is probably my most worn FM. I just love it. You smell wonderful!
Thank you Daniel !
I have been using EL double wear for years. And for a lighter coverage Chanel Vitaqua lumiere
Above all look good with a Chanel lippy 🙂
I do love Chanel lipsticks, but today it’s the Guelain Pucci one-looks scary purple in the tube but once applied it’s a reddish plum. And my post should have read-what a lift having my appearance in order….not what a life lol 🙂

Patron saint, Bartholomew!
Kanuka thank you for this 🙂
I need a picture of this saint and add it to my skincare cabinet.
Excellent work!
You do smell wonderful! Big fan of Musc Ravageur.
Thank you, ringthing. It’s a beautiful scent.
Many moons ago, I had a dry patch on the lower right corner of my face. On the recommendation of a La Mer consultant, I started to use the moisturizing cream. Within a few weeks, the dry patch disappeared. Although I don’t use make-up anymore, I had used foundation from drug store brands (L’Oreal) to La Mer.
I had a sample of the LaMer, and I’ve been using it. i also used a coconut makeup remover last night-I found it to be really moisturizing. I’ll try it again tonight.
I have used Guerlain youth watery oil for years.
Because you mentioned coconut: I may be really weird, but I used straight coconut oil as a makeup remover for some years, especially for my eyes. It worked well, and didn’t dry me out. (I have combination skin that still is prone to the odd pimple at 51, too.) I went on a natural beauty kick for a while. The coconut oil had the advantage of not costing so much, and being more effective than expensive beauty products for removing my eye makeup. And it didn’t aggravate my acne, because apparently it has some antibacterial properties. But, YMMV.
(Actually, maybe I’m still on a natural beauty kick. I’ve found that very minimal skin care works as well as anything high-end.)
La Mer is La Merveilleuse! But $$$…😞
… but are you worth it? My answer is always Yes!
Well said!
For two days in a row you smell fabulous 👌
That is such a nice compliment, NinaV-thank you:)
Hello.
Sotd is J’adore l’Or.
With this newest version, the jasmine is very similar to the “solar” jasmine in Alien, so much so that they could be semi-dupes of each other.
I recently watched a K-drama on Disney+ called Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born. The acting is superb , story is great and there are traditional songs throughout the episodes (the story is about traditonal Korean musical theater). I highly recommend.
Thank you! I get Disney+ and will watch that. I’m currently working through all the dramas I can find starring Jang Hyuk. Wow can that man act! Not bad in the looks department either. 😉
Hmmmmmmmmmm, I might have to give that version of J’Adore a sniff.
Starting my day in vintage Grey Flannel – my bottle is from the 80s. I never smell it on anyone anymore. It’s not that the fragrance itself is especially dated, but it is so much of that era (for me) that it acts as a sort of olfactory time machine.
Kind of hard to be objective through all those memories, but it’s really beautiful – mossy, floral, woodsy. There’s a green freshness to it, but somehow it’s cozy, too. Marketed to men, but I know several women who adored wearing it in the 80s and 90s.
I love Grey Flannel, and the violet aspect reminds me a bit of a fragrance we both love-Dans Tes Bras 🙂 The fact that I can still sometimes find GF inexpensively makes me love it even more. You smell fantastic, Daniel.
Yes, that’s true! Hadn’t occurred to me that they share that note.
FWIW, I tried the current version of GF – it was okay, but without all the wonderful moss it was thin in comparison with the vintage stuff. Still, it’s remarkably affordable!
I have a small bottle of Gray Flannel tucked away from 1994. My dear friend who died from AIDS and was buried in his Ferragamo loafers always wore it.
Oh, the memories scent holds… I’m so sorry for the loss of your dear friend.
Thank you so much.
Geoffrey Beene- his clothes were marvelous too! N
In the 1980s a male friend wore Gray Flannel and I loved it and so went into a department store to buy some for myself. I told the sales clerk the story of how I came to love it and she chided me and said it was a man’s fragrance, not meant to be worn by women, and REFUSED TO SELL IT TO ME.
These days I would immediately ask politely to see the manager and explained to him/her she was hurting business and that fragrance was absolutely unisex. But at the time I slunk away, red in the face, certain I’d committed some kind of horrible gender faux pas. I actually got a guy to buy it for me later, but only wore in around the house, huffing myself in private.
Like you all, it was the green crisp fresh green stemmy violets that got me.
Husband likes it too so we share our vintage bottle.
You smell great, Daniel! And Apsara, I’m glad you have this scent memory of your departed friend. It’s a wonderful fragrance!
What a story. How crazy that she refused to sell it to you.
Well, societal change can be glacially slow, but thank goodness things actually move forward. Hard to imagine that a similar scenario, at least in this city, could happen now.
And how great to share such a classic scent with your fella.😊
I am a woman and I wore it as a teenager in the early 80s

Had an amazing educational event at the library 📚 early this morning, there was a hand written letter by Adams that was delivered by Paul Revere telling NY about the Boston Tea Party. I saw some amazing photographs of Elvis and Patty Smith ( a little bit of everything)
That sounds incredible. I would love to see it.
I just got to sample your SOTD recently, and I love it. Also love your library descriptions and stories. I went to a library in one town this week, looking for a book. The staff member said it was actually only available in the next town over-2.5 km up the road! And there was a third library about 7 km away. Each of these libraries was located in a small town-they’re just remarkable close to each other. The second library was like a large room and had so many good things packed onto its shelves. I love libraries.
I love libraries too. Today was a bit of a treat!
There was also a diary of a Civil War soldier who lasted only three months in service. He kept his journal in his pocket, and lo and behold, he was shot right there. The diary had a huge bullet hole through it.
Have you ever read THe Library Book by Susan Orlean?
I loved it.
No..
I just looked up the NY library digital collections so I could see some of his letters, and his hand writing
https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/search/index?filters%5Brights%5D=pd&keywords=John+Adam%E2%80%99s+letters#
Stacy Schiff used these letter to write her biography on Adams
Hurray for libraries and librarians, for whom I have the utmost respect, now more than ever due to the horrible political winds.
I’ve seen examples of handwriting from the early 20th century in libraries and some of it is so beautiful.
Truman Capote had amazing hand writing
That is truly a little bit of everything!
Wearing 2 tuberose scents, which often have that “tropical vacation” feel: Beyond Love by Killian and Amouage Love Tuberose. The latter has a noticeable suntan lotion accord, at least for me.
Our gas boiler continues to give us trouble. The technician said an expensive part needs to be replaced, so I let him buy it, but for some reason, the issue remains. He is trying to figure out why. Wish us luck with it. We have a lot of old appliances in the apartment, and a lot of them seem to have issues lately…
Good luck with boiler. Things like that cause so much worry. When I lived in Germany we had constant boiler trouble and it was so depressing. I will join you in Amouage Love Tuberose later. Good luck!
🍀with the boiler Glannys.
Good luck Glannys!
Good luck w the boiler Glannys. Do enjoy your “tropical vacation”!whenever you inhale those delicious scents you’re wearing. You and Kris are artists at layering to me.
Thank you, friends. Still no solution for the boiler, but the repair man promised to come back tomorrow.
I do have some good news, too. Today we took Kora to the vet for her annual shots, and the vet said she is in a good health – her eyes, teeth and temperature are great. She is lying in my chair behind me now, purring – she sends love to all her NST admirers.
Oh yay, that’s great news! Sending love to you and Kora 💕
Wonderful news, kisses to sweet Kora!
Hugs and pets to Kora!
Awwwwwwwwww, good news for sure! Teflon kitty sends gentle head bumps and a quiet “Mrrp” to both of you.
I’m going pistachio with Le Jardin de Cythere, another perfume that works best when given “ just one more” spray. Not long until autumn now and the leaves on many of the trees, especially the oaks and birches, have dulled and lost their shine. The acorns are almost full-sized and will start dropping soon. The starlings, too, have lost their glossy feathers and are now speckled white. They don’t migrate. There’s a big tree by the university chemistry building where they all roost and the intensity of their singing at dusk is incredible, it’s a beautiful sound. They seem to quite often find trees in bush city streets ( there’s another by the hospital), a bit of a gift for commuters.
That’s a beautiful description, Kanuka. I love it for one more reason: your fall=our spring, which cannot come fast enough.
I have the same (selfish! Sorry Kanuka!) reaction. Please, spring!
And actually it was lovely here today, sunny and high 50s…only needed a cardigan.
Like Carole, your poetic description moved me!
I haven’t tried Le Jardin de Cythere and now you got me interested.
I’m starting the day in CSP Vanille Abricot because it reminds me of sunny, carefree days☀️
You smell luscious and have made me crave a vanilla-apricot pastry!
Completely forgot about my bottle of Bronze Goddess but not feeling “solar” today. Last night before bed I decided I wanted something pretty and went with Au Coeur de Desert because I find it straight up gorgeous. I will reapply today. To me, this is an “everything but the kitchen sink” kind of fragrance that scratches a lot of different olfactory itches.
Getting my taxes done today which means, at least for me, that winter is really over. 75F and sunny here yesterday but it’s supposed to cool down again today…
Deva, thanks for the article link yesterday! It was very informative.
Good luck with the taxes!
Thx for the reminder, Deva. I have a sample of Au Coeur du Desert which I will try tomorrow. I was just reading the reviews and giggled because someone on Basenotes referred to L”Air du Desert Marocain as “Le Derriere Marocain.”
Hoot.
I love L’Air du Desert but the hubs is with the Basenotes reviewer on that one.
I finished Fed & State, will do local this weekend. Cannot wait to be DONE.
I’m breaking out Mugler Aura today, for that neon vanilla. I haven’t worn it since last fall and, as so as often happens, I forgot how great it smells.
Have any of you guys hit that point in winter that you just want something different? Doesn’t have to be new. Could be anything, wearing a different color, eating something you love and haven’t had in a long time, an old perfume love rediscovered, digging out some jewelry that’s been neglected. I have been putting on a little makeup and making an effort with clothes just to do random errands, and it does help my mood.
No.
Just kidding. I don’t necessarily change up what I wear or the foods that I eat because I get “stuck in a rut” which is not bad in and of itself. I do try to be as stress-free as possible and I find it works better than changing up my routines.
I just want to throw everything out and have everything clean this time of year. Good for you with fancying up the make-up and clothes routine. I agree it’s a mood lifter.
The hope of spring does make me change some things in my routine. Longer walks, lighter clothing, more careful application of sunscreen too😀 but still too lazy where makeup is concerned and it feels too early for spring cleaning.
I’ve forgotten how good a few of my perfumes are. That’s the downside to an embarrassment of riches.
I don’t specifically get the urge for change in Winter. It just shows up whenever it pleases, LOL.
My layering for today is BBW Butterfly shower gel and body cream and VC & A Bois d’Iris.
Beautiful day here in the Midwest so went to get my nails done and now need to take my Toyota in today to see why my tailgate keeps getting stuck halfway up.
You smell beautiful.
Thanks Nina!
What color did you get for your nails?
Sort of wine colored. OPI Miami Beet. The description says “racy red-violet”.
I am in some kind of mood and I am pretty sure it’s not solar. Just a culmination of all sorts of things going on in the world + interia.
Los Angeles County has a different timeline for taxes due to the fire disasters – September, not April, so I am taking the slow route.
Finished Day of the Jackal series last night. Loved the book, the original movie and the series. Need to find something else to hook myself with now.
SOTD will be Aedes orginal. One day I go to spray it and it will be empty. That will be a sad day in fragrance annals:(
Hope the mood improves! Mine has not been great either and I’m spending way too much time on disturbing things I can’t control. Happy to hear about the tax deadline extension as that whole area tries to reassemble life. The world needs a break from insanity but I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon.
I hope your mood gets better.
Some streaming recommendations, all stress-free for me:
– White Collar – Netflix (I just got started and have plenty of episodes left)
– Zero Day – Netflix
– Tribunal Justice – Prime (many many episodes)
– Brooklyn 9-9, Tacoma F.D. (don’t recall as I finished the entire thing over a year ago)
– Extraordinary Attorney Woo – Netflix
My car wash is free today so that’s an instant better.
Big drop off at resale shop another instant better.
Attorney Woo, yes have watched.
My sister and I are just in a state of intertia. Like the cold stunned turtles. 🐢
Attorney Woo will be having a second season–only recently announced!
I love Slow Horse on Apple TV. Love Gary Oldman & Kristen Scott Thomas
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slow_Horses
Was so great am waiting for next season.
Me too
So many people recommended that and loved it and I did give it a good try but couldn’t get past how disgusting he was.
That is part of the humor
It may be hackneyed to some but Ted Lasso always makes me laugh. I’ve no time to watch anything really but I’m about to go back to Season 1 (although I vehemently disagree with Ted’s tea is hot brown water thinking. Absolutely not! Tea is a marvelous elixir when brewed properly!) to lift my spirits.
I’ve been in a bit of a mood lately too. The February blahs are hitting hard this year.
Glad that you have your sister to lean on.
Like the rest of the world, I guess, I’m watching White Lotus season 3, somewhat slowly. We just finished the latest season of Babylon Berlin, and were quite surprised to see one crossover with White Lotus this season; you don’t often see the same actors in German and US shows.
After my hair appointment last night, I now have light pink hair. I’m wearing Mary Greenwell’s Plum, which I always think of as a pink perfume.
You smell great, haven’t seen Plum mentioned in a long time, a Nster used to wear it often, maybe someone will remember who it was, I have a bottle somewhere.
I bet you look amazing. I hope you have a matching coat!
And Mary Greenwell also had (has?) light pink hair 🙃
Oh yay. I want pink hair.
Commando except for some D&S Durga hand cream . They call it Big Sur After Rain — but I get slightly pickled cucumbers.
Stray Kitty Update: We got him to the to vet, he had surgery to clean out what was apparently extensive bite wounds that were festering, and is now recovering in our guest bathroom/kitty recovery room (third time in seven years we’ve needed a recovery room!). The vet is hopeful that all of the wounds will heal, but the one on his front left leg was really bad and there wasn’t much healthy tissue for her to work with, so it is possible we may need to amputate that leg. He hates wearing the cone but otherwise seems to be doing alright. the pain meds have him very chilled out. Thankfully he is not completely scared of me; I was worried that trapping him would erode the trust I’d built up with him. The bad news is that he is FIV positive, so we’re not comfortable having him live with our other three kitties, and he can’t go back outside. We’re looking at options for him post recovery. We’d been considering finishing our basement and this may tip the scales in favor of doing it and having him live there. Since we had to give a name at the vet, his government name is now Marmalade Man (he’s an orange tabby).
Tea today is F&M Albion. A good strong brew.
Poor little guy! Vee you are an Angel to be taking care of him!
Thanks lillyjo! I’m an easy mark for critters that live in our yard, and cats especially
All the best to Marmalade Man, hope he can keep his leg and you’re a star to look after him.
Thanks Aurora. We’ll see about the leg. The good thing (?) is that he is getting around just fine on three legs right now while he avoids putting pressure on the injured one, so if does become an official tripod, it won’t slow him down too much.
I hope he recovers well. What a kind thing to take on. Do you remember the Orlando the Marmalade Cat children’s books? Your cat’s name reminded me.
Thanks Kanuka! I’m not familiar with the Orlando the Marmalade Cat books. My niece is a fan of the Pete the Cat books, so we read a lot of those. I’ll look for the Orlando ones for her. Thanks!
Marmalade Man is lucky to have found an angel to take care of him ❤️
Thanks NinaV! He is very sweet, so I’m happy that he found his way to our yard and that we’re in a position to help him
May Marmalade Man recover well!
Thank you LesLiesse!
You are a hero to cats and cat lovers alive! Poor little one. I love orange cats especially, we had one that would walk down the block with us to accompany our dog on walks.
Thanks Denise! Orange kitties are so sweet. One of my other three (Timmy) is a orange boy and he is 2/3 Sweet, 1/3 a Pip! The saying about all orange cats sharing a single brain cell is very much true in Timmy’s case and we have deemed him a lovable jock. Marmalade seems to be sweet and mellow, which is leading me to think he has a sweet surfer vibe. 😂
I missed what happened but God bless you Vee!! I really hope you decide to keep him!!!!
Condensed story is that a stray cat that had been hanging around our yard for a while needed some emergency vet care. Options looks to be either living with us, living with some of family members if they are game, or a sanctuary for FIV+ kitties if he really cannot adjust to being a full-time in door cat. Either way, they “stray” phase of his life is done.
Sounds like a good excuse to finish the basement. Thanks for doing what you did for Marmalade Man.
Right!?! Perfect excuse. 😂 Thanks, hajusuuri!
Thank you for helping out that poor cat. I have an FIV positive cat and he’s been fine with the others, and none of them have gotten it, even after 6 years. You only need to worry if they fight. As long as he is neutered, it should be fine. In my case he is the absolute sweetest cat I have known and I love him to pieces. He often cuddles with the other cats and they love him too. It’s only the feline leukemia cats you can’t have with your other ones.
Thank you Calypso. It is good to hear that your FIV+ kitty is doing so well. Our current three are tightly bonded and wrestle A LOT. It is mostly play but occasionally one of them pushes it too far, so we are worried about 1) disrupting their dynamic and 2) fighting if we add MM to the mix. My guess is that if we keep finish the basement and keep him there we may foster another FIV+ kitty with him with the hopes adopting a playmate for him. (Mr. Vee does not yet know this fifth kitty plan 😂)
Haha 😂
Hurray for getting the stray to the vet! Glad that Marmalade Man has received some much needed TLC. Hopefully now he can heal up and not require surgery.
How are your other kittehs doing?
Thanks Jalapeno! Fingers crossed!
The other three are good. They know something is UP! But they also already know MM’s scent from when he would hang out on the other side of our screen door and they would all sniff. They looked how we all must look when testing new frags at a perfume counter.
The gray fuzzy crinkle toy you sent them continues to be in their top five favorites. Timmy cried for five minutes strait recently when he knocked it under a dresser and couldn’t reach it without my help.
Absurdly pleased to hear that particular cat toy is still being loved and used!
Thank you for taking such good care of sweet Marmalade Man!
Thanks allo! He chose the right house to beg for food — Mr Vee and I are easy targets for cats.
We had an FIV+ cat, and she was the sweetest, best kitty ever. We only got two years with her, but they were two wonderful years, and she lived a high-end tuna-fuelled life. Love that you’re thinking about keeping the basement for him.
She must have known she had it really good with you, ockeghem!
That’s so wonderful, ockeghem!!!
Our marmalade kitty had diabetes. She was middle aged when we adopted her and developed it a bit later. Everyone learned to give her shots. She was also the sweetest most loving thing. She would perch on the back of the couch and groom the hair on our two boys’ heads and also groomed the dog.
Rainy and gloomy here. I went grocery shopping and now heading to work.
Mugler Oriental Express called my name today. I don’t think I am ready for solar notes just yet, but will pick something for Friday.
I bet you smell great, I don’t know about this Mugler as Jalapeno would say it’s something of a unicorn. I feel like you do about solar notes at the moment.
Robin did a great review of it. Eventually they changed the name to Oriental Extreme I think. I had missed out on it but am able to wear it now thanks to a generous Nster. I still keep an eye out for an original bottle though.
Mmmm good. I may do a week of Les Exceptions …
You will smell great all week!
Envious of your rain. Definitely could use some precipitation here; it’s been dry and dusty enough that both Teflon kitty and I have been sneezing more than usual. Plus I am starting to see pollen counts (!!) already.
Gosh, seems soon for that! Is Colorado better or worse for allergies than NJ?
Different. NJ is far worse for mold and mildew, but Colorado has a lot of airborne particulates and dust. Plus desert sage, cedars, and junipers pollinate early in the season.
I’m wearing Tocade parfum today, as part of my effort to wear each of my cold-weather favorites at least once more before warm weather makes them less appealing.
I stepped outside at sunrise today and was just in time to catch its rays turn the bare upper branches of a neighbor’s tree to rose-gold. The phenomenon didn’t last long but was startlingly beautiful.
When I returned indoors I looked at my emails and from the Daily Respite I found this well-timed quote from the great poet Mary Oliver: “Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” So, check, check, and check.
All of you smell really, really good.
That’s a useful quote.
Love Mary Oliver.
Lovely quote in your post!
<3 Mary Oliver
I found some good and local (from Kent) apples at the supermarket so just had one. Continuing with mimosa, today it was PMC Mimosa Tanneron, I know another Nster has and loves it too, that is the third and last of my mimosa soliflore but I made a note search for more complex perfumes with that note and I picked Poême, nobody ever seems to wear it, I have a little 30ml vintage bottle, objectively it’s too sweet so not favored by perfumistas but I am fond of it in light application and I rather think there’s been much worse since😉.
I look for Poeme all the time. I’ve always liked it.
That makes me feel good that you like it too Lillyjo, I hope you will find a vintage bottle, it was so affordable when I got it, maybe it is still the case.
Have you seen Victoria’s recent post about mimosa scents on Bois de Jasmin?
Yes😀, it inspired me to do mimosa this week.
Nothing is wrong with Pretty! Sadly, you are also right about “there’s been much worse since”. There’s always been not-good stuff out there, but expensive, not-good stuff really gets up my nose…
It’s interesting isn’t it that a perfume that was criticized for being too sweet and diffusive seems quite tame now.
I liked Poeme when it came out. Didn’t spring for a bottle, though, and am not sure why.
I would say it’s worth revisiting, I’m loving the drydown this morning.
Aurora, I am not sure that I’m the person you’re thinking of that loves Mimosa Tanneron, but if not, then you can add me to the list. I actually just wore it on Tuesday! I’m on my second sample of it and trying to decide if it’s too similar to Diptyque Essences Insensees Mimosa, of which I have a bottle already. I think I’ll soon wear the last of my sample on one arm and the Diptyque on the other arm to do a comparison.
Okay, I am in compliant scent! Finally! By accident, but ignore that part.
I got a bunch of Guerlain samples from Surrender to Chance, and since I am taking one of my cats to the vet later I chose the Aqua Allegoria Nettare di Sole. It’s a salted water with a warm floral veil over a vaguely honeyed base. From a dab sample, so will transfer it to a spray to see if that brings it to life a bit more. And maybe a hot day will really make it pop. But mostly salty water on some pretty enough soap.
I love Calvin Klein Reveal, will have to pop that on later today or tomorrow. Salted caramel and solar notes, with enough oomph to carry on the wind. It is sooo good in early fall, when the weather gets crisp.
Reveal is one of the best salty perfumes imo.
I wanted CK Reveal to work on me. Sadly it did not.
I will definitely wear Reveal before the week is out..
No solar notes here but I will come up with something by Friday. I wanted carnation this morning, so I am wearing DSH Oeillets Rouges. My bottle is 3/4 gone and I will replace it when it’s finished.
Foxbins, how is your healing coming along? I hope every day brings you closer to your baseline and back to good health and mobility.
Thank you for asking–Physical therapy is kicking my butt. I can’t turn my hand palm-up and I am working hard to restore that. I am getting a little better each day, I was thrilled on Friday to realize I could touch my face.
Oh geez, what a road you’re on! I hope things start moving more quickly for you. 🤞
Foxbins I wish you full recovery and am glad things are improving. All those teeny improvements will add up!
PT is difficult! Glad you hear you are sticking with it and seeing results.
SOTD = Dior Addict
Woot woot! It is SO GOOD!

In other news, I mentioned that I saw what I thought was a new category of membership at the local community center. It mentioned “retired” and I am trying to figure out what proof do I need that I am retired. I stopped by this afternoon and guess what? They just take your word for it. I think the universe is telling me something because today, I was given a printed schedule for March and they normally never ever do that!
Finally, are you a crier? I am not convinced that the questionnaire is all that “accurate” because I am a cryer when it comes to injustice (or what I perceive to be injustice) against myself. Maybe my skin has gotten thicker over the years but to be labeled not a crier? Something is wrong! You be the judge:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/11/14/well/mind/crying-quiz-tears.html?unlocked_article_code=1.z04.1ZZQ.tk9aHuqxky_f&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
I rarely cry anymore unless I get overwhelmed. When I do I will cry literally over spilled milk. That said, I have to go to the dentist tomorrow and I will probably cry when it’s done. I am anticipating it not going well.
I hope it’s just anxiety and it goes better than you expect, and then you can have some tear of relief 🥲
Good luck at the dentist! 🙏 all your surprises are all positives.
Maybe your dentist appointment will be like mine was? Hoping that’s the case, and it’s better than you anticpate.
Edit = anticipate
Fingers crossed for a boring visit to the dentist🥱
I have a mini bottle of Dior Addict, probably more than 15 years old! I will give it a go one of these days.
I have an old mini also. 2 dabs is still very potent. It’s beautiful.
I couldn’t open the link. I’ve got a soft touch for sentimental commercials and movies. That said, I cried multiple times a time during the fires here in So Cal. My first time driving through Altadena, the Palisades and PCH will probably be a flood of tears.
Yay community center!
Do I cry? Yes, if the occasion calls for it. “I will not say, do not weep, for not all tears are an evil.” (Favorite Tolkien quote there.)
This morning I could still smell Heaven Can Wait I sprayed yesterday evening and I am happy to report that the dry down is just as wonderful as all the other phases.
Now, for the solar notes I thunked my sample of Acqua di Parma Bergamotto di Calabria La Spugnatura. Meh. Maybe this fragrance is just meant to be worn on hot summer days…
Some perfumes really are at their best in the blazing heat of summer, odd as that seems. I know if it gets TOO hot, no perfume sounds/feels good to me.
Memo Irish Leather
I checked the notes because I’m not familiar. Can you smell the juniper berries and mate?
I’m raising my sample of Tauer’s Maroc Pour Elle to the North African sun in honor of the CP today and to a warm sunny day in L.A. as well, though it will soon cool back down to more respectable February weather. It’s from a fellow NSTER, thank you! I’ve never been to Morocco but I have to imagine the sun bakes the dusty towns and the dry desert landscape.
I tried this many years ago but wrote it off as too sweet for me then and reserved my love monogamously for L’Air du Desert Marocain. The lavender in Maroc Pour Elle is almost candied on me, and is the note that I can smell the clearest and then up charge jasmine, rose, orange blossom, incense, resins, amber, spice.
It has a very vintage glam retro feel and was Tauer’s first fragrance in 2005. He really hit it out of the park, even though sweet spicy ambery florals aren’t usually my thing. Also some vanilla in there, reminding me just a tad of the creamy ‘floriental’ feel of Rochas Byzance and Leonard’s Balahe, though that one has more tropical vibes. Very nice to test but I probably don’t need bottles of any of them.
NSTers are sooo kind and generous!
Le Maroc Pour Elle and LAdDM were the first two Tauer perfumes I fell for. Golestan and Heraud are also worth a sniff, IMO.
Sotd YSL Libre L’Absolu Platine. Found out last night it’s being discontinued. 😞
Maybe it was a limited edition from the get go?
You may be right! Flankers seem to have a shorter lifespan.
Are you having better luck smelling it now? I tried the new one in the white bottle and really liked it. I don’t get along with lavender and the white one seemed to have less of it.
I have no idea why the first two days I couldn’t smell anything. It must have been my nasal passage misfunctionning. Could I have been mid-applying it? Is there a correct technique among perfumistas for applying it, like an oenophile tasting a wine? On the third day I quite loved it and it’s very lavender forward. I was interested in trying the alcohol-free Nue in the white bottle. Glad you really liked it.
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/8AHCfZTRGiI
This didn’t start off as a Johnny Cash song, but it certainly has become one. The OG artist has even said as much. I have a soft spot for Mr. Cash and his music. I even remember bits and pieces of his long ago TV show.
And on a different note (ha), today is the “chilly” day of the week. Got up to around 50 or so here. Still was warm enough that I didn’t need the heat on during the day. Teflon kitty has spent part of the afternoon staring at the pigeons doing touch and goes on the building next door.
SOTD = back in Armani Code Pour Femme.
I thought I remembered his show but then saw the year’s it ran. I think I just remember seeing him on other people’s shows.
I also remember bits and pieces of “Laugh In”. Kind of surprised at the stuff my parents let us watch at times, TBH.
Wow, that video was something no else. I didn’t realize he was doing a Nine Inch Nails song! June Carter Cash looks so pained for him.
Johnny Cash did several albums in the 1990’s and early 2000’s where he covered contemporary songs. His version of Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus” is also worth checking out.
Meant to beat it here. Will check it out.
Post it here, not “meant” it here.
KEXP today played his song “The Man in Black”, which I’d never heard before. I had to stop working to listen. I do like his “Hurt” and “Personal Jesus” covers, too.
The radio station I listen to also played a Cash song I was not familiar with this morning: “Rowboat”. Have you ever heard it?
Will check it out!
Not CP-compliant today as I tried the sample of IA Telegrama that came with my Valentine’s gift of a FB of Fox in the Flowerbed. It was competent but didn’t bowl me over.
Sitting in a cafe late this afternoon and listening to two absolutely clueless Millennials trying to play a Canadian version of Trivial Pursuit. One of them has never heard of John Candy and has no idea “Chinatown” was set in LA. I guess I’m old?
I’m old right along with you. During a diagnostic exam yesterday the tech asked what kind of music I liked. I told her and the response was…“What’s 90’s grunge?” and “Who’s Steely Dan?” Apparently she didn’t like either as she changed it multiple times and ended up playing what she liked. 🤷🏻♀️
I saw a girl with a Def Leppard shirt and asked if they were a favorite band. She said she didn’t know who they were. Lol.
Excellent, this made me crack up!
Did. Not. Know. Def Leppard?!? 🤯
HERETIC! You are not worthy of the shirt! 😡
Did you hear about how Tony Hawk’s son married Kurt Cobain’s daughter? They had a baby, Hawk’s first grandchild and he apparently posted how he would have loved being Grampa’s alongside Kurt.
To not know John Candy is just sad. I recently went down a SCTV rabbit hole and laughed so much! You’re in Canada right? Canada is home to so many great comedians.
John Candy was a huge part of why “Spaceballs” worked.
Spaceballs!🤣
My brother is always grousing about clueless Millennials.
