Tuesday scent of the day 2/25

Posted by Robin on 25 February 2025 137 Comments

It's Tuesday and George Harrison’s birthday, plus Peace Corps Week. RIP Roberta Flack. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: awaiting the sun in Parfum d’Empire Azemour Les Orangers.

Reminder: on 2/28, we're doing here comes the sun...wear a fragrance with a solar or "sun-warmed skin" note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Teapot Astronomici ("Refined zodiac motifs cover this elegant hand-decorated porcelain teapot with gold accents, turning an everyday object into a true collector's item") is $710 at Fornasetti.

I’m in Heaven Can wait. Application is everything for this scent, for me-I need it to be a fine mist, and two spritzes, max. I’ve applied it with the nozzle quite close to the skin and not liked the effect as much. It does remind me of Coup de Fouet, by Caron.

Today I’m wearing Lush Big body spray for the CP. Here is how Lush describes it:

“Big gives you a sunny beach in a bottle. Straight away, a floral wave of orange flower absolute greets your nose with sweet mandarin following swiftly in its wake to add a gentle fruitiness. Vanilla absolute offers a final comforting note of muskiness and warmth.”

I love Big, but it has more “beach” than “sun” for me. It is salty and musky – like a slightly sweaty skin after a hot day on the beach. It does not have that bright, sunny vibe orange blossom normally gives, but it is both fresh and warm, and very relaxing.

I’m wearing Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, because to me it’s a spring fragrance, and we’re experiencing a week of spring-like weather after last week’s cold. Today it’s sunny with a high in the 70s. And my plum tree is blooming!

I’m in Dedcool Milk from a sample. Thunk. This really is a skin scent, unless I’m anosmic to it. The perfume itself also leaves just a bit of an oily residue. The whiffs I get are pleasant, but I need more.
RIP Roberta Flack. That news made me quite sad. I am old enough to (barely) remember my mom playing the Killing Me Softly album over and over when it was released. I would have been 5, and my mom would have been all of 26. Really just a kid herself. In a sense my parents and I all grew up together.
Anyway, I’ve always loved that song because it reminds me of my mom.☺️

Robin, I think I’ll follow you today in Azemour. I could use some hint of sun, as we’re back in the dreary season (though I’m not really complaining as January was unusually sunny, though unseasonably cold). It rained hard here all night.

And I’ll put on some George Harrison to celebrate his birthday. Probably also some Roberta Flack, whose music is part of some of my very early memories.

I am semi-commando for a medical appointment. “Semi” because the bra I’m wearing is the same as I wore yesterday and it is wafting baby bits of Devotion every now and then. Sorry if that’s TMI! 😂

This office, which I’ve never been to, is very aggressive with trying to make me pay up front because I haven’t met my deductible yet. I politely stated, more than one time, that they could bill me since they didn’t inform me when I made my appointment that I would be responsible for a $300 up front. Ugh! Anyway, don’t let medical offices browbeat you into payment up front. Always wait until they’ve settled with your insurance company first because if you overpay, you’ll never see that money again. Just my two cents (which I happen to like to keep in my pocketbook! Two cents is two cents after all!).

What would one say if they do disclose upfront payment when you make the appointment?
I’ve skipped appointments before because of unwillingness to bill.

Well, I honestly think that’s illegal. They have to bill the insurance company first, and then you’re responsible for paying the remainder until your deductible is met. If you’ve met your deductible but not you max out of pocket, that’s a different story I think. I think the reason offices/labs/radiology clinics are doing this is because insurance companies really dawdle with paying these companies. I’ve gotten bills for due co-pays and the 20% I was responsible for MONTHS after the date of service because insurance companies take forever to pay what they are obligated to pay. These medical companies are trying to get some money up front because if this, IMO.

Oh, it’s definitely happening as experienced by lillyjo above. If you’re mostly healthy and have annual preventative healthcare that’s covered 100% consider yourself lucky! Almost all specialty/diagnostic offices are asking for money up front these days.

A gorgeous sunny morning here, and I’m in Black Aoud from Montale, which is not a sunshiny scent at all. Must be my pensive mood these days, since I’ve also been wearing their Aoud Cuir d’Arabie. Once you get past the barnyard opening, (which I adore,) it’s a lovely dark leather/smoke scent.

By Friday I’m sure I’ll be ready for something much sunnier.😊 (Thinking about Bigarade Concentree.)

Spent hours on the phone with Verizon, including being kicked off my failing network several times before the problem was resolved. Wearing Mon Precieux Nectar, so pretty. Going to a book club at the library to discuss Viola Davis’s autobiography. Such a talented woman, with a heartbreaking background. Not a particularly happy book, but so well done, well worth reading, for the blunt honesty if nothing else. Reading this made me appreciate my upbringing more!

When I was on Verizon DSL, my service would fail every two years. The first time it happened, after being on the phone for HOURS, I was finally told my modem was shot and so I got a new one, courtesy of Verizon. When it happened a second time two years later, I got wise to following the instruction (no complaints) and just asked for a new modem.

I reached in far to the back of the closet and pulled out my Bain de Soleil orange gelee, strictly for the moisturizing and scent benefits. It’s spf 4, imagine that?

I also added a few sprays of CB At the Beach 1966 for its old school Coppertone vibes. I think the sprayer is shot on this. There’s lots left so I’ll have to maybe improvise and find something else to decant into.

I tried the new Daisy Wild Intense and liked it. I think all the Daisy’s are happy smelling.

The OG Daisy was so darn likable! I ended up giving it as a gift to a couple non-perfumistas (different occasions) and they loved it.

    SOTD = Amouage Sunshine

… woman. Love it! I know I haven’t worn it in a while but everytime I wear it, I’ve told myself to wear it more often!

I’ve gotten my Santander Bank issues resolved – forgot my PIN (new card which means I have not used it in forever) and don’t recall my password for online. I think we’re all set!

In other news, speaking of discontinuation (another thread), what would you do if something you swore you cannot live without is no longer available? Here’s a gift article, although there’s nothing perfume-related:

I have been known to stock up, if I get enough notice. I stocked up on White Cube before they discontinued it. I wish I’d stocked up on Paestum Rose but didn’t know in time. I stocked up on incandescent light bulbs about 20 years ago when the LEDs were still too white and they threatened to ban the incandescents. (Now I only use LEDs and can’t get rid of the incandescents; I finally gave them to the Salvation Army.) I am considering stocking up on my favourite candle / home diffuser scent just in case (I have a spare candle but not a spare diffuser).

I do get annoyed about the makeup changes. I like the chunky NARS lip pencils, especially in the slightly less matte formulation, but the colour I like (Do Me Baby) and the less matte formulation are gone. Of course, I never find this out until I run out and go to restock. I haven’t found a good replacement.

I finally wised up when I found a new mascara release that I absolutely loved. After trying it for a week or so, realizing it was a genuine ride or die for me, I went and bought 3 more tubes and squirreled them away. I will buy a couple more this week because unopened they will last forever. Maybe I should be buried with a couple tubes of them..?! 😂

I used to have a favorite style of jeans that Lucky brand discontinued back in the 2010s. Very bummed about it, since they fit so well.

I ended up going with a different brand.

    Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie

I wanted to wear mimosa again after Victoria’s post, yesterday was Le Couvent Mimosa, simple but charming, this morning I chose the richer Fleur d’or and acacia by l’Occitane which lasts very well on me, some people complain about longevity on Fragrantica apparently. Tonight, I wanted a musk and first picked my oldish Jovan Musk, oakmoss is listed as ingredient on the box which doesn’t appear on the Fragrantica notes, so they’re wrong, obviously, it smells great but wear close to the skin so I added Bal à Versailles vintage edt on my sleeve, that one projects for sure.

Longevity seems to be a big problem on fragrantica. If they can’t find a reason to dislike something, it will come down to longevity. Lol.

That advanced layering seems like it needs its own special name. I think Glannys asked AI to name a layering she did and it was quite poetic.

I was gonna wear something with a solar note, but then I read carole’s SOTD and had to copy her, so it’s FM Heaven Can Wait. If I were a person who had signature scent, I think this would be the one 🤍 And it’s just perfect for the calm evening we are having. Thanks, carole, for the inspiration 😉

You’re most welcome:) I think that HCW would be a beautiful signature scent, NinaV. The concept of a signature scent appeals to me-it seems so elegant. I got my application just right (for me) today. When I first tried it I was dog sitting for a friend-now when I spritz it it reminds me of looking after the dog. He’s so cute.

It was a beautiful day here today. I was supposed to work tonight but took a personal day instead. Not because of the weather but because I was feeling overwhelmed with stuff I needed to do at home. My regular day off is Thursday and will be busy with appointments that day.
I went with what called my name for my sotd. It was Dior Tendre Poison. A top 10 for life.

Windy weather here today! Had some advisories earlier on. Nothing serious, just annoying. Teflon kitty has been enjoying the almost record temps very much.

Got some ideas for the CP. We shall see what I feel like wearing on Friday.

SOTD = Armani Code Pour Femme EdP. It’s got orange blossom in it, but the vanilla I smell in the base means it isn’t a solar perfume.

Just looked Armani Code up on fragrantica. I think I only sampled the original (?). I had no idea there were so many flankers or versions of. Obviously I live in a perfume waste-land 🙃.
