Lazy 3-day weekend poll ~ open thread, late February 2025

Posted by Robin on 22 February 2025 212 Comments

It's the last weekend in February! As of Saturday, there are 25 days of (astronomical) winter left (or, 7 days until meteorological spring).

We're waiting (patiently or not so patiently) for spring with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the fragrance you know you own but just can't find, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

To answer Robin’s question above…I own Slow Dance by Byredo-but for the life of me, I can’t find it! Maybe I gave it away..
Enjoying reading Tin Man, sad story, but enjoying.
Simultaneously I am reading The Letter for the King, a YA novel part to myself and part out loud to my kids. This is a Netflix series but I want the kids to partake in some of the book first…

Oh, wow, first! Wearing Irisss today, a run to the recycling center and a little grocery shopping is on my agenda. Maybe I will go to Joanns and see if they have winter fleece on sale yet. I want to see up a fleecy blankies for my TV watching recliner. I made on for adorable hubby years ago
Which has held up admirable, so O am going to make one for me! Continuing to do Pimsleur French lessons. Looking for a reasonably priced B&B in Amsterdam for the first two days of our trip. Anyone have any suggestions?

Almost first! I stayed in Amsterdam so long ago — and so cheaply — that you don’t want my recommendation 🙂

    Lovely photo, Robin. 🤩

I’m still wafting Devotion. Someone told me last night I smell “fresh,” which is not an adjective I’d use to describe this scent, but hey, it was a compliment so I’ll take it.

Looked at my schedule last week and saw that I was scheduled for FIVE 12 hour nights in a row. I emailed her and told her I will die. Literally. Die. 💀 Hoping she changes it…

In insurance news, I picked up nine months of my B12 injectable and it was $20 cheaper out of pocket than with my insurance. Riddle me that… Also, if you want a pneumonia vax, it’s $350 without insurance, $160 with Good RX, and zero with insurance so I’ll be coughing up my insurance info next week.

Saw a few balloons this morning, one of which was a disturbing red and black combo that reminded me of Darth Maul. No bueno.

I wouldn’t call Devotion fresh unless you consider a lemon pastry fresh😂 Do you have both Devotion and Bake? I have difficulty telling them apart.

    Hi everyone 👋
I have been marinating in Bapteme du Feu since a wonderfully kind NSTer sent me some…..omgoodness I love it so much ❤️ But today I am changing it up with Stash, which is one of my mother’s favorites. I have on the perfume and hair mist.
Cold here but blasting sunshine 🌞 A warming trend starts Monday.

It is unusual but I love all the phases. It opens with a bright, realistic tangerine note, then it merges with gingerbread, then a woodsy phase and a finish of lingering powder. I have a sample from Luckyscent that you are welcome to, my email is anitalane 313 gmail.

Post shower I am thinking of Le Labo Patchouli 24 that springpansy mentioned a couple of times. I’ve been inspired by NSTers this week 🥰

    Hello everyone,
I know I own Rose oil from Andy Tauer but unfortunately it’s nowhere to be found, it’s a mystery to me what happened to it.
Not decided what to wear for tonight’s musical event that I am organizing, the thing that stresses me most, I have to do the opening speech, it will be short and sweet but I don’t like speaking in front of a public.
I am debating between Coco Noir and Fracas.

    Sotd Moon Glory

Lavender update: it worked! My resting heart rate (RHR) during sleep has dropped back into normal range. I feel so much better! My stress levels were through the roof and I’m happy to have handled with help holistically. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I’m still waiting on my Harney’s lavender tea delivery, but look forward to it to get ahead of my next stress cycle.

Speaking of Robin, with all the marvelous and meaningful comments yesterday (over 300!) plus a wet iPhone that had to dry out over 6 hrs, I didn’t appreciate the over-arching wisdom of her comments on meditating more as well as having deeper gratitude for what we have in our lives. Robin, you’ve inspired me to deepen my morning quiet time! Thank you (and next Saturday is March) !!!

    Wishing all a fragrant weekend!

A few yrs ago I was in a horrible car accident while I was stopped at a red light on a sunny Sunday morning at 11 am. I was quite traumatized, and my doctor recommended I start every morning with quiet time to help. So, now I subscribe to The Daily Word, read each day’s wisdom, then pray for peace and guidance for that day. Lastly, I do a lovingkindness meditation for a few minutes to help me be more positive, kinder, and patient. I confess that it’s easy to have this become rote when the experience should fill the practioner with gratitude and peace. That’s why your words resonated. I’ve started going through the motions, hurrying through things (such as not proofreading a post or driving today 50 mi w Mr Engineer without buying tickets online for an event ahead of time, only to find them sold out), and not being grateful and accepting enough of where I am in the moment. Thus, my body’s craving lavender to combat my stress. That said I do believe that my 10 min daily over this extended time has made my life better in many ways. Everyone that seeks a practice needs something different in terms of meditation. One just need to search for and experiment with what works for them IMHO.

Well good for you, that is a sensible reaction to your circumstances. At the moment I want to meditate every day but usually only actually do it an average of 3 times a week, unless you count doing loving kindness in the sauna or during yoga or acupuncture, which I do regularly but don’t really count since it is not real meditation and is often interrupted.

With the revised weather forecast, it’s a bit cooler than promised, but we are still above 0° C, a win in my book. The snow is melting and rain is on the way.

With that, I’ve sprayed myself with some vintage Diorissimo. Hopefully it will hang around a bit longer with the slightly cooler weather than wearing it when the temps are higher.

I may bake a batch of cookies later today; I still have a few dried raspberries and a bar of white chocolate to use up.

Hearing you mention white chocolate and raspberry cookies makes me want to ask her to sub dried raspberries for cranberries in her next batch.

SOTD is ELdO Eau de Protection. Just felt like thorny roses today.

I have been busy cleaning kitchen cupboards and drawers. During the pandemic, my husband and I went through our entire twin home cleaning things from top to bottom. Both of us hate clutter and we have been known to be minimalists. I am okay with that. I got that from my mother and her home was beautiful. Anyway, I figured since we are doing all this remodeling, I might as well do it again. I can see Goodwill in my near future to offload some things😂

Have a great weekend everyone! Temperatures in the 40’s and 50’s here this coming week.

Our garages are connected. We have a small one-just one level and only about 1400 square feet. Some people have two levels. We are having the kitchen and bathroom floors replaced, a new shower and tile for a backsplash and around our fireplace. Not remodeling the entire place.

It is similar to a duplex, but a duplex is usually owned by one person and is one property. A twin home is considered two different properties even though they do have a common wall.

SOTD = Commando Eau de Commando

… just because … got to take a break some time

I posted a Caturday post yesterday! I mentioned being obsessed with Hello Kitty and the item I was waiting for finally arrived. What do you think?

    https://www.instagram.com/p/DGWm_oDRL3b/?igsh=MWt6ODI2Y2JxajlxdA==

Other than an all day Sniffapalooza thing, the last time of which I attended in 2019, I am not “into” all day or several days worth of marinating myself in perfume. I know, go ahead and take off perfumista points 🤓. Chemistinbottle (and a bunch of other people) have or had attended the latest Esxence in Milan. I have never been to Milan (not even a bucket list trip for me) and if I do end up going, I would dip my toes in (of course going at the right time) and go do something else. Have you been to all day / several days worth perfume events?

Wearing And The World Is Yours today 🍊🍨

This originally came out in a 10 ml spray at first and I believe I swapped it away to another NSTer…I was kind of meh on orange blossom. Then I had what can only be described as an orange blossom breakthrough 😂 , tried a sample again and quite luckily got a bottle from another kind NSTer in a Swapmeet. 😍 Full circling swapping of sorts. ⭕️

Work has been really stressful and I will be working tomorrow to get through some revisions for audit document. 😅 Things will be busy through June w/ our audit schedule but things should subside a bit in the next week once this document is done.

I stumbled upon the Insight Timer app which is for mediation and mindfulness, etc.. Curious if others have used it? It’s pretty neat. I looked up reviews and most are really positive and say the free version is not much different than the paid. I don’t currently meditate but am thinking it might be time. 😉

      Work stress twins.
We are currently migrating from one gaming platform to a different one, which requires recertification of all our products. So much work to be done, so many teams working together, and I too try to do some things during weekend in order to make the working week less stressful. I know this is not a good approach in a long run, but right now is helping. And we also have annual Audit in June 😂
But we’ll get through this! 💪

Since I couldn’t reply under the other response I’ll reply here. My thought is that any quiet time/meditation is restorative even if it’s short or interrupted as the positive effects are cumulative. I’ve fallen into going through the motions (as evidenced by my RHR’s elevation at night), despite having made a habit of it. Hence my need for an additional calming agent. With a robust practice (I do like how it’s called a practice rather than a skill or habit), I should be able to weather current rough seas more placidly. That’s why I was inspired by your words. Going to shake things up a bit to go deeper.

That is true…and the two most restorative things I do really are sauna (don’t totally love being in the sauna but feel so wonderful afterwards that I look forward to going) and acupuncture (unfortunately expensive but I would go every day if I had the money). Yoga is also a huge help in dealing with stress.

The benefits of meditation, for me, are more subtle, which is probably why I have not managed to keep myself doing it every day.

She particularly likes sandalwood so I’m bringing her a decant of BdI EDT when I come back tonight. It may ruin her for any other sandalwood perfume. Just doing my Fumie Duty! 😇

I’ve heard that rumor! I have about 1/2 of my 75ml bottle left, but won’t be repurchasing because of the (astronomical!) increase. However, I did snag a bottle of the parfum for this one when they first announced the discontinuation of the extraits. More recently, got Coromandel in the extrait version as well. Considering my age, I’m sure I’ll have enough Chanel to last me into the grave. 🪦

Poking my head up from the deep wallow I seem to have dug myself in the slough of despond for a brief seasonal update: the birds appear to have recognized the lengthening daylight. The tufted titmice are searching for someone they’ve lost; they shout “Peter! Peter! Peter!” over and over. The cardinals believe there is good news somewhere, they repeat “What cheer! What cheer! What cheer!” ad infinitum. I’m not convinced.

I’m unscented today; being on day two of a wicked headache I hesitate to put on any fragrance lest it be tarred forever in my mind with the headache brush.

You could be looking for either sillage or throw. “Sillage” is the trail a perfume leaves behind. Think of it as being similar to the wake a boat leaves in the water.

“Throw” aka projection is how far away from your skin you can smell a scent.

I’ve had a busy but happy weekend with friends but can catch my breath today, which will be nice and quiet. Now the roses are beginning to die in the graveyard there is the occasional scent of tinned tomato soup. I wonder what it is that links dying rose petals with sweetish soup ( definitely tinned soup, not made from scratch). One bush always catches me by surprise as I pass. Wearing Paris layered with Journey, to bring it down a bit. I saw a nice Olympia typewriter in the op shop yesterday and think I might go back today and buy it. Not sure where I can buy ribbons though.

Joann’s Fabrics has succumbed to bankruptcy blues. I had no idea. Yesterday I went in the and emerged 4 hours later ( te checkout lines were horrendous) with sets of knitting needles I didn’t know I needed and some lovely fake fur called Husky, but it looks like Wookie to me, and some equally lovely fleece with rainbow unicorns prancing thru flowers and sparkles, which I will use to construct a snuggle blankie for recliner time. I need more whimsy in my life, apparently! 🙂 I spent much time filing papers and organizing tax stuff this morning, now my back is too tired to face pinning blanket binding around all that today, so that can be the happy project for tomorrow morning. SOTD is my nice churchy incense, La Liturgie des Heures, which I seem to wear a lot on Sundays. I clean the house and burn a little Green Tara incense I the mornings, and this perfume blends right in-setting up a calm and loving atmosphere to start the week off! I just found a great recipe for poppyseed bread, so when my back feels better, maybe I will make some of that. Happy weekend, everyone!

It really is sort of weird. The Joann’s where I live was busy all the time. There isn’t anything that provides the same range of product. Why this booming business is failing and no one can figure out how to make it profitable is strange, isn’t it? The people standing in line stocking up on stuff was pretty awesome.

Inspired by all the talk about D&G Devotion and Akro Bake, I decided to do my “research”, so I went to try them side by side ☺️. I agree with Kris, they are strikingly similar. Maybe I lost some slight difference in the opening, but after I left the store, every time I smelled them they were pretty much the same to my nose. And now that I’ve seen that they were both composed by Olivier Cresp, I really think that he just did some minor change to his original formula and sold it to D&G.
The fragrance(s) is very nice, but since I am not interested in buying a FB, I am eyeing the Akro Gourmand Kit that contains Bake, Rise & Awake in 10ml. Has anyone tried the other two?

I’m reading a really good novel called The New Life which is based on the two men who wrote the first study on homosexuality, “ Sexual Inversion” back in the 1890s, the court trial and their risk of imprisonment. The author has a PhD in British history so there’s a good sense of context. I’m wearing Barenia which I like more and more. Certain aspects of it remind me of Feu d’Issey, the off-fruity note. The similarities are most noticeable if you overspray. It has good lasting power on me and I’m thinking of getting a full bottle. Listening to rain; it’s still pitch black outside.

Hi all! I interpret solar notes broadly, encompassing everything from suntan lotion to the general feeling of sun and sunny weather.
There’s a great article on Sylvaine Delacourte’s website about them: https://www.sylvaine-delacourte.com/en/blog/solar-notes.

For Monday, I chose Serge Lutens Un Lys. There’s something about this creamy lily that reminds me of a holiday in a sunny place.

Quite informative article Glannys, thank you! I learned a lot about notes. I do find it poetic that much of the world calls it a holiday rather than a vacation. I’ll never forget once saying I was on vacation, and the person mischievously asked what I was vacating? I suppose: living in a state of stress. “A holiday in a sunny place” sounds idyllic. Seconding Kris, wishing you a good week!

Wow, I never thought about vacation vs. holiday before.
You are right: “holy day” sounds more poetic than “unoccupied [day]”. Sacred to Europeans but just days free from work to Americans? 😉The Ukrainian word “відпустка” is closer to “let go” or “release”, so not as nice as “holiday” as well.

I made the mistake of asking a fellow traveler (of a certain age) when her next vacation will be. Her response? Retirees do not vacation!

As I’m a retiree, that’s news to me. If we can’t vacation, I do hope we’re allowed to holiday!

Retirees vacation! I am headed for Amsterdam, Paris, and some backwater village in the Camargue come May! I know retirees who are headed for some archeological site in Canada, and of course people going to the mountains in Wyoming. Go all over!

This morning both my daughter and I fell in the driveway on black ice. She fell on her knees and I somehow managed to propel my fall to the neighbors lawn where the snow saved me.( ironic I know) we are both fine.
I chose No.19 for my sotd.

Shower gel and body cream for the day is Bath and Body Works Butterfly. SOTD is Zara Romance d’Iris. I usually wear this in the spring and summer months, but it is going to be 59 degrees today! Yesterday, we had a 92 degree shift from last Tuesday. Last Tuesday it was -38 and yesterday it was +54. Crazy!!! It has been a very weird winter this year here.

Commando today and for the past few days as we try to catch the stray cat who has been hanging around our yard for the past several months. He has a bruise on his leg and is limping so he definitely needs to get checked out. We had suspected that he has a home and was playing us for extra food, but now I think not — no way even semi-responsible owners would let him roam in this condition. Poor little guy.

Solar frags don’t work well on me, so this is a good week to sit out and cheer from the sidelines anyhow.

Tea today is the last of my Marco Polo Sublime. It’s very good but I prefer the regular Marco Polo, so I’ll get that once I’m done with this year’s Pantry Clean Out Hunger Games.

SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Barnes 7 Afterparty EDP

Love the woodsy, boozy, powdery perfume! 🤎 Alas, this is the end of the January Joy Box 2025 and what a blast I had. Of course I was supposed to be done at the end of January but I have a perfumeland in these here parts so I took my time.

I attended a NJ Symphony performance at the NJ State Theater in New Brunswick. It was wonderful. My friend left it up to me to purchase the ticket and I decided to NOT go with the cheapest but also not the more expensive ones so I ended up with the “best seats” in balcony and they were pretty good seats. Then we went to a restaurant nearby (Cuzins) and had a fabulous dinner. The only negative thing was there were 8 (or maybe more) “birthday” dazzler celebrations and they were just too distracting!

To answer Robin’s question, I have a couple of sample sets from Tauer that I *know* I packed up for my move. I still haven’t found them. Maybe they are hanging out with a small carved jade cat that I can’t find either. 🐈‍⬛

Commando today for a dentist appointment. NBD, just an ordinary checkup with a new hygienist for me. The one I saw last summer moved on.

Temps have been near 70 with plenty of sunshine both today and yesterday. I am willing to share, if anyone wants some! 🌞🌞🌞

PS. Been loving Josie Maran Bohemian Fig body butter the past couple of days.

I got the travel size pouches from Sephora. I think that size is only sold online. Some of the bigger ones might be in stores.

The Josie Maran ones I have tried are perfect for spring and autumn. Not quite emollient enough for the dead of winter, though.

It’s a woody fig. Think of something like Philosykos. The base notes are vetiver and tonka beans.
