It's Tuesday and Inventors’ Day aka Thomas Edison’s birthday. RIP Tom Robbins. What fragrance are you wearing?
I woke late and am already behind for the day. I will pick a fragrance later! Tea at the moment is a green Mao Feng from Upton.
Reminder: 2/14 is Valentine's Day. Wear a fragrance that expresses your feelings about the holiday, or that reminds you of someone you love.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Crowned Heart teapot by Marin Montagut ("Marin Montagut works on each of his tableware models by drawing inspiration from old-fashioned French tableware. The tableware, of rare finesse, is made of enameled porcelain. Each model is made by hand, resulting in unique pieces") is €120 at
Amouage Beloved Woman for Valentine’s Day CP.
Perfect Glannys!
You smell fabulous!
I tried putting on Sintra first, but it has way too much vanilla, so I switched to Irish Leather. Much more my style, with juniper. I am going to explore more Memo scents with some decants.
I admit I gave up on Memo early, but I should probably try more of them some day too.
I really enjoyed Tom Robbins back when I was younger. Can’t believe he was 92! Seems like yesterday to me that I found a ragged copy of Still Life with Woodpecker in a used book shop. I was young enough that some of it went over my head but old enough to catch the sly wit and humor of much of his writing.
Wearing a bit of the original Bottega Veneta just because. Had hours and hours of sleep, so feeling ready to launch myself into the world today. Watch out world! 😜
Smelling great as you launch.
Hours and hours of sleep! Such a blessing! You small great! Hope you day goes smoothly!
Bottega Veneta is one perfume that I am SO glad I have the big bottle of!
You smell great. Glad I stocked up when that was still really available

Chanel 1932 with Chanel lippy
Reading Prophet Song by Paul Lynch
Kris is you are reading this could you tell me a few books you told me I would like? I wrote them down as you post on NST and now I don’t have my sticky note…
Today I am drinking cappuccino with oat milk.
No, I have not read that. If it is recent books then I am guessing it was probably The Frozen River and What Happened to the McCrays?
I know you haven’t read what I am reading..I was just keeping a list…thanks!
What color lippie? My quest for the perfect raspberry pinkish blueish red that will make the sleep shadows under my eyes disappear, and also make my teeth look white, continues!
I just bought a new one..look it up Allure Extrait refillable lippy in Rouge Libre-it’s a pinky red. Beautiful.
Another favorite of mine it 446 Etienne which is what I wore today. Marthe is also pretty.
Up very early this morning to get ready for a much needed haircut — wearing Tam Dao and hoping my (relatively new to me) hair person doesn’t hate it. 😬
I had my haircut last week!
I had been itching for a “hime cut” for quite a while and that’s what I went for. Little did I know, it’s actually trending at the moment, but with another name, the “jellyfish cut”. It’s sported by Lady Gaga and others.
Interesting! I had to look that cut up — I’m not up on the latest anything! How do you like it so far? My hair has been a basic layered bob with bangs for about a century now, except for a couple of phases when I thought I wanted something new but it turned out I didn’t really. 😆
I am liking it! Bob had also been the cut for me for many years, though the length may vary. My hair style changes now and then but one thing that never change is bangs!
Tam Dao in moderate application, is received favorably by most people, I find. To the uneducated nose, it just seems mellow but unindentifable. To the more educated nose, it’s a nice little sandalwood.
Tam Dao is wonderful! I wore it this morning
Yay, haircut!

A review for Jitterbug Perfume from NST to mark Tom Robbin’s death. I’m wearing a jasmine perfume A La Nuit to tie in with the book.
February is pitiless, and it is boring. That parade of red numerals on its page adds up to zero: birthdays of politicians, a holiday reserved for rodents, what kind of celebrations are those? The only bubble in the flat champagne of February is Valentine’s Day. It was no accident that our ancestors pinned Valentine’s Day on February’s shirt: he or she lucky enough to have a lover in frigid, antsy February has cause for celebration, indeed.”
― Tom Robbins, Jitterbug Perfume
❤️
Wow, totally forgot that review was there, thanks!
Also, read Jitterbug Perfume when it came out and remember literally NOTHING. Not a thing. And with apologies to TR, and with thanks because I know I really enjoyed reading him at the time, he got cut in my last book cull so I don’t have copies of any of them anymore, except Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas because I bought a used copy and still haven’t read it…it is in one of many piles of “books to read”, somewhere in my house.
I remember bits and pieces from his books, but not much more. They belong to that period of my life when I was reading Tom Wolfe ( like you) , Thomas McGuane, Edward Abbey, Pynchon etc. I am thinking that I might reread something this week
I loved Thomas McGuane. The New Yorker has a short story of his every so often, so he is still writing (and “sounds” pretty much the same as ever) but I don’t know if he is still doing novels. I have never read Pynchon, and Edward Abbey only a bit of the non-fiction. If you read lots of Edward Abbey fiction tell me the best one to try.
I am rereading Sebald’s Rings of Saturn, maybe I’ll see if I can find Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas after that.
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2009/sep/26/robert-macfarlane-monkey-wrench-gang?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
I think Monkey Wrench Gang is the classic Abbey. For McGuane I liked 92 in the Shade, and for Pynchon The Crying of Lot 49. But I haven’t read either McGuane or Pynchon for over thirty years. I think they might have been taught in an American lit. Post modernist paper along with Ishmael Reed and Doctorow, maybe?
I saw a review last week of a collection of just-published Sebald essays ( collected after death ) and it didn’t sound too good in that it was quite academic and bitsy. Rings of Saturn is terrific, eh? All of them are. I read an interesting biography a couple of years back that I enjoyed, a good book if you know his work because of all the references. Will try and find it for you
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2021/aug/14/speak-silence-by-carole-angier-review-a-remarkable-biography?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
Definitely worth reading if you like Sebald
Many thanks for all of that Kanuka!! Adding to my (crazy long) reading list.
Hello.
Sotd is Prada Candy. I should’ve gotten a bub of Candy Night when I had the chance because the chocolate note is so delicious.
It’s funny how our taste in things change. When I was much younger, I’d only wear silver-toned jewelery because I thought it matched my skin tone best. When rose gold became a thing, I switched because it’s prettier on me. Now that I am older, I am starting to appreciate gold things…
Yes! ALL my early jewelry was silver, then for some years much of it was costume, and only when I got older did I want gold. Luckily also lost interest in having lots of jewelry choices…I wear the same gold earrings & rings pretty much every day and again luckily for my wallet, don’t care about necklaces or bracelets.
Lillyjo mentions Prada Candy Night on a semi-regular basis…
Thanks to a generous, pre-reformulation sample (courtesy of NST gem AnnE,) I’m in Vetiver Oriental from Serge Lutens – one of the most delectable vetivers I’ve ever smelled.
(You meet the nicest people here!)
As a total newbie, I heartily ❤️ agree.
Second that, Daniel. & you smell marvelous!
Is there a big difference between pre-reformulation and post? Or have you not tried the newer stuff?
I haven’t tried the newer stuff, but I’m remedying that later this week. Will report back!
Wearing Lyric today and will probably be running a couple errands a little later today.
House sibling – it’s another Dia in the office…
Hello, and happy tuesday,
Started with Grandiflora-Michel, which is gorgeous in the cold air. I bought SL Parole de L’eau and it just came in-lemons, like Fleurs de Citronnier, and eucalyptus. It will be nice for the summer.
Not afiliated, but the Bay has a nice beauty promotion-if you buy any SL product you’ll get a 10 ml Ecrin Fumee. Just in case anyone needs more SL scents in their life 🙂
oh wow that’s pretty good. Thx. Now if only they’d add La Dame de Heinan Parfum d’Ambience to the GWP.
I’ve not tried the home line, DeniseH. Is it good?
Carole, I dunno, but someone here posted about buying and loving that particular one last year and I’ve been thinking about it ever since.
Last night’s scent was SL Bois et Fruit from a decant received I think in the last swapmeet. Thank you swapper! I love all the Lutens Bois fragrances, including of course the first one, Feminite du Bois. In honor of Valentine’s Day week, I shall wear Theorema later, as the DH loves it. I tell him to enjoy it while he can as it’s d/c. One fragrance he absolutely doesn’t love is L’Air du Desert Marocain by Tauer. Each time I wear it he wrinkles his nose and asks me in a downbeat tone what I’m wearing. So I wear that one when he’s not home. It lasts into the next day, but by that time it’s much less strong. But he might also come around. He used to say that Parfum Sacre was too ‘musky,’ his term for frags he doesn’t care for, but last time I wore it he liked it, so there is hope. Kanuka, I put that Australian book Juice by Tim Winston on my reading list, thank you! It sounds good. Sounds a bit like The Road by Cormac McCarthy.
It has a similar feel to The Road but is more interior, less aggressive. It’s a shift for Winton who is best loved for his western Australian surfer community, working class books. A couple of his books have been made into films, and Breath is probably the best of these ( director Simon Baker).
I really like Tim Winton’s writing-Dirt Music is pretty special.
Sounds great! I will seek them out. We have our own west coast surfers and I’ve really enjoyed the fiction they have spawned, especially Kem Nunn’s Tapping the Source, Tijuana Straits and The Dogs of Winter. It’s Surf Noir, with excellent writing. And also a period of funky cheap apartments on the beach and a lifestyle that is long gone.
Nice swap, Denise!
Happy to see you.💗
Annie, sending you hugs over the wires and I hope you feel better soon.
In St. Clair Casablanca for this sunny crisp February day. We were thinking of booking a museum tour in Paris (adorable hubby’s travel anxiety is such that I hoped a tour would let him obsess about fewer details) but there is a problem with the airline tickets out of Detroit which might scuttle the whole project. Of course we could find a cheaper hotel in Paris, but I am too old to sleep is a picturesque little place where holes on the floor pass for plumbing-been there, done that- and some of that “padding” of the fees is a reserved set of slots for the Louvre so we don’t to stand in line for 5 hours, and a trustworthy way to get our baggage from Orley to the hotel for a known price in a timely fashion, all of which I could do while maintaining equanimity, but dear AH can’t even think about it months ahead of time without a meltdown. Ugh. Sorry, shouldn’t be complaining here. Maybe we will just go spend a few days in Yellowstone, or the Grand Canyon, instead. Those venues are a pleasant challenge for him, rather than an overwhelming trigger.
Love the chocolate pot, or coffee pot, or teapot.
What about an actual, fully organised “ tour” package that covers hotels, sightseeing etc. with a guide. Something that is fully organised, with a professional leader might alleviate his stress while allowing you to see the sights? Or maybe somewhere within US where you can get to with direct flights? Or, how about a really cool organised tour within your state that focuses on history, nature, arts, food or whatever…again low stress as it is all organised.

This kind of thing
You are so kind. We drive all over the U.S., no problem. Overseas, he has only traveled as a sort of mendicant monk on a pilgrimage of one sort or another, so taking an actual destination vacation for pleasure and relaxation just is overwhelming to him. I really shouldn’t have vented. We will work it out. If all else fails,I will go with my sister and the hubbies can be grumpy together, and play golf, or something.
My sisters hubby, after working on jet engines in the Navy because he drew draft #3 in 1973, and missed helicopter pilot school due to a debilitating month long infirmary stay with a bad case of mononucleosis or something, now refuses to fly in airplanes of any sort, so I really shouldn’t complain. 🙂
It’s a beautiful sunny morning here, but the sense of autumn is getting stronger. I’m wearing Le Temps d’une Fête, a summer favourite.
ockeghem – I belatedly saw your news about your toe, I have huge sympathy. I broke a toe last year, it was so annoying!
Oh no! Yeah, right now I can’t put my foot in most shoes. Fortunately the snow is still melting here so I have an excuse to wear my wellies with the huge toe box. I’m hoping maybe it isn’t broken, as the bruising was limited to one area and got better overnight, but I’m still keeping it taped up.
I hope it heals quickly and you are feeling better soon ockeghem!
Thanks to all but especially Glannys and Jalapeño for help on lavender front. Now have lavender hand cleaner, lav &eucalyptus hand creams, and two types of lav tea to drink. Still no fragrance. Speaking of which…
Sotd 4160 Tuesdays The Sexiest Scent on the Planet. Ever. IMHO. (Yes that’s the full name w periods included.)
Getting psyched up for V-Day as Mr Engineer delegates to me to Bringing The Sexy Back.
A beautiful and fragrant Tuesday to all!
Also thank you’s for all the valuable info (and loads of typing) from Glannys on decants v samples and how swap/split meets work! So kind of you G !!!
Good luck with your lavender perfume quest!
Already all the tea, hand wash snd lotion is helping lower my resting pulse!
Which tea(s) did you get? I really like Harney Super Blue Lavender.
Robin, I will have to order than one. Stash’s Breakfast in Paris (lavender, black tea, bergamot oil & vanilla) and Christmas in Paris (lavender,!peppermint, cocoa, vanilla). Mr Engineer remembered I had ordered these in Dec ‘23 and never used them. They were in the back of the shelf behind the regular old Lipton.
Ah, thank you for the brand!
The Harney is straight lavender, nothing else, which you might or might not enjoy 🙂
Thank you for tip! I’m going to order some.
I cleaned my entire kitchen yesterday. Pantry shelves, fridge, freezer, under the sink, cabinets…done and done. Took forever to get motivated.
And then foam rolled for like an hour while watching We Live in Time on Max. Finally it was free streaming.
Post shower boxing up books and audible CDs and other stuff I won’t resell to the resale shop.
I see Chanel is raising the exclusifs pricing again. I guess the ones I have will be the ones I have.
Post shower I think Allure will do nicely. Love the teapot, but heading downstairs for final cup of coffee.
Well done! I’ve cleaned my fridge, and count that as a victory…
Yep!
How much will they be now? Geez, come on Chanel! Like you, I’ll be happy with what I’ve got and pleased as punch to have two of the exclusifs in extrait form. The spray sample of Coromandel edp has almost zero lasting power in me, which I find interesting as my BdI EDT lasts forever. Wondering if price changes also come hand in hand with reformulation…🤔
I think they are going to 500.00 now.
Crazy town.
I want a bottle of Dior Tobacolor and not much else. They have changed their bottle sizes also and am thinking I should/might get it now. The FOMO is real.
500.00! Jeeze Louise that’s crazy!
YIKES!
Bravo 🎉
Guess I should quit stalling and get some No. 19 before it becomes unaffordable. 😣
Again?! AGAIN?! They are nuts, and I love Chanel. With you: what I have is what I have.
Envious of your productivity!
SOTD is another of my favorites-Chanel Exclusifs 31 Rue Cambon. I see Apsara mentioned the prices are going up again. I better hold on to this one and use sparingly. This is the only one I have anymore. Used to have Bois des Iles, Misia and Coromandel. Either used them or gave them away so now down to one. That’s okay as there are a lot of other great fragrance out there!
My husband is having back surgery next week and on top of that we are doing a ton of remodeling, so we are keeping very busy. Sometimes I wonder how we ever had time to work🤣
I wonder that also! How did I fit it all in?
Crazy, isn’t it?
🙏🙏🙏 for a safe surgery for Mr Kris!
Thanks dear.
I hope the surgery and the remodeling go smoothly!
You and me both. Thanks.
Fortunately I have a vat of it from a long time ago when I think it was only $250. I’m hoping that will last the rest of my life. 🙂
I hope all goes well with Mr. Kris’ surgery!
Actually, I shouldn’t complain. I have over half left and I probably bought it 10 years ago. It may outlive me.
Wow! Perfumes should be worn (looking at myself in the mirror). I hope the surgery goes well and the remodeling is one and done!
Did you see my face?
You are right. I should just wear it more. I have had it for 10 years and at the rate I am going with it, I think it will be around after I die. I have over 1/2 of it left and I don’t wear it often. I think I forget I have it sometimes.
Best wishes for your husband’s surgery.
Thanks Aurora.
That’s a wonderful attitude about no longer having the Chanels.
Wishing your husband the best of luck.
It’s not that I can’t buy the Exclusif Chanels, it is just that they are getting so expensive and there are so many fragrances out there that I really like.
That is a lot on your plate and you’re smelling fabulous! Hope your husband’s surgery goes smoothly!
Thanks, Tulipani. I’m sure it will all go fine. I am a bit of a worry wart plus I am very systematic so want everything to go just perfect.
Hope the surgery goes smoothly for your husband!
Thanks so much!
Fingers crossed for your Mr. and his procedure!
Thanks Jalapeno. I will be glad when he is done with it.
I hope Mr. O’s surgery goes smoothly and he recovers soon. He’s lucky to have you to take care of him!
Thanks. When I retired as a nurse, it was not my intention to have to take care of him all the time. In the last few years he has had two back surgeries and three kidney stone surgeries so enough is enough. Really, he is pretty easy to take care of as he doesn’t complain much.
More well wishes to Mr. Kris!💐
Stitches come out today so I applied a discreet spritz of Chypre Mousse this morning.
Good luck and may your recovery be quick!
Congratulations of stitch removal!
Too discreet for such a happy day! 😉
That’s great news, hope you are healing nicely!
Great news!
Whoo hoo! Bye-bye stitches! 🤕
Great! Hope you are doing well.
I am wearing Chanel No.22 layered with Chanel edc. I got the idea from the SA at Chanel, she said i can layer the edc with Comete, no.22, le Lion. I love the combination.
I have a very busy week, with lots of volunteering and organizing events.
I have all of these Chanel’s and may imitate you one of these weeks!
How’s Comete? Not that I should ask, given the thread.
Butting in to say some NSTers have found it rather powdery. And very Chanel in nature.
Thanks, it sounds bland, lol.
I really liked it, but I have so many iris scents that I decided I didn’t need a full bottle. Like Jalapeno mentioned, it is very Chanel in nature. Many felt that it was fleeting on them, but I did not find that to be the case.
Your description sounds sample worthy.
You two are confusing me, 😊
I’m in Jil Sander No. 4 today, remembering a valentine long, long ago who probably bought me the bottle I had back then. Thinking of him is a good reminder of everything I never want in a relationship (except for the perfume, I’ll take the perfume)! You live, you learn. Interestingly he gave me a “sapphire” ring back then, almost certainly glass, not real. Many years later, Mr. Ockeghem gave me real sapphire earrings. I’ve paired them today as a reminder of what’s fake and what’s real, and my real Valentine. 🙂
Have you had the glass sapphire appraised? You know your long ago valentine but then again, you never know!
I have not, but it’s occurred to me. Long ago valentine was when we were in our early 20s (I was barely 20, actually), so the chances that it’s real are low. But still, he was pretty obsessed (part of the problem) and had some disposable income, so it could be real, but probably isn’t.
Some “costume jewelry” is worth a pretty penny. Just saying. 😉
This one is clearly a small version of Princess Di’s engagement ring. Not sure how much that’s worth in this day and age. But I wish we’d kept my grandma’s costume jewelry.
Oh yeah. Apart from the sentimental value, I can totally see why you’d want Grandma’s things.
Lovely wisdom for Valentines Day! Glad your guy is true blue, the authentic kind!
Ooh, true blue! I love that take! 😀
At least the Jill Sander No. 4 was real!
Yeah, probably more real than the replacement I bought a few years ago! 😀
Love your story about the sapphires, real and faux!
SOTD = Parfumerie Generale Indochine
So good, inspired by Kris!

We’re supposed to get more snow starting this evening. These days, I almost feel like if it is < 2 inches, don’t even tell me about it. It is supposed to be 2-4 inches so it just met the cut off.
Just about every Tuesday and Friday, I take a little trip to Whole Foods and then to an asian store. Last week, there was a sale on seaweed with “x” chips (potato, brown rice and something else). Anyway, since I have never had them before, I got 1 of each to do a side x side. The clear winner was the one with potato so last week, I got 8 of these. Today, I got 10. To my surprise, it was $0.49 cheaper per bag so I was quite surprised! If it is still on sale this Friday, I will get 10 more!
Yay for food being on sale!
LOL! I’ve been calling anything under 3 inches “nuisance snow” since my college days.
I will be snow twins with you tonight. Got some on the way, supposedly.
You smell so good!
We had a couple inches of snow yesterday and have chances of it a few other days this week. Sounds like most of ours will be nuisance snow too.
Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie
Four grey days in a row but it’s not very cold. Saw the lovely bird who spends winters here, I think they’re called white tails. This morning I chose Mandarina Corsica, I’m still getting acquainted with it since I purchased it last quarter. I think it’s one of my rare Quentin Bisch scents. Tonight it’s vintage Miss Dior esprit de parfum.
Around here the Sun comes out but the temperature drops. It’s a trade off.
Sigh, yes, winter is definitely my least favorite season. Still, not long now. I can’t sleep so I’m doing laundry😀
Hopefully it will tire you out and you can get at least some sleep.
Grey AND cold here today, so I got the worst of both. But the sun usually returns after a day or two.
Oh no, I hope it will improve later in the week.
Scent for this cold day is Amouage Blossom Love. The bottle color and the sweet scent seem perfect for Valentine’s. And I love that this decant was gifted to me by the wonderful pl67. Big waves, if she’s reading!
Nice. Pl67 is wonderful. We swap perfumes every now and then. I take it you noticed she is back again.
Lipstick Rose!💄❤️
Lovely!
Beautiful!
My scent of the evening is Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile. To me it’s a romantic scent so it fits CP.
I have not heard that scent mentioned for a long time. That definitely fits the CP.
Holy moly it’s COLD here today! High temp was 15 degrees F. I already have the bathroom faucets dripping. The weather guys and gals here are saying overnight temperatures are going to drop like a rock. Might have to put another blanket on the bed tonight. 🥶🥶🥶🥶
SOTD = still in Flowerbomb today. Needed something cozy, and this fits the bill.
And I thought it was cold here (it was cold for here) when I woke up and it was -6 C! Towels under all the doors (we should replace our weatherstripping but I always forget as it rarely gets cold here). It’s not supposed to be this cold in the Pacific Northwest!
Temps like this happen a few times every Winter. Not sure if I am getting sub zero temps tonight, but they are definitely in the forecast for tomorrow night.
Stay warm!
I’m getting those temps again next week.
Hang in there! Spring is (eventually) coming!
Bitter cold here too. Below zero again, but will warm up a little on Friday. Stay warm my friend.
Fortunately for me, this cold snap isn’t going to be nearly as long as the previous one was.
Teflon has been very snuggly with me today!
Teflon 🤍
I’m wearing Samsara today. I think the edt.
I got out of work and stopped for milk. I ended up spending $70.00 on more food because there’s a winter storm coming tomorrow.
Oh, no! I hope you don’t have to go back out again.
I have to work tomorrow but hopefully I will make it home before it gets bad out.
Smelling wonderful today lillyjo! Hope you get home safe tomorrow before the weather gets yucky.
Commando today and yesterday, though about to test some samples. Will report back tomorrow!
Oh, I did test SL Rahout Lakoum, SL Iris Silver Mist and Room 1015 Jasmine Freak last night. Will need to test again, too many work hours have intervened and the most I can say now is, “Nice, don’t need.” But I have too many bottles so the bar has now very high.
