Happy Hump Day and happy World Nutella Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in vintage Hermès Calèche.
Reminder: 2/7 is Rose Day, but we've already done rose for a Friday project at least twice, so we'll put a spin on it this time...wear your favorite fragrance that has a rose note but doesn't smell primarily of rose, or wear a rose fragrance layered with something that tones down the rose.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Caleche is an excellent choice for this CP!
I’m wearing Guerlain Liu today (apparently overrated, according to Luca Turin 😉).
In floral aldehydic fragrances, the floral notes seem to break down and transform into something else – I still perceive this scent as floral, but I can’t distinguish individual notes, including rose. Still, it’s lovely. It has many similarities to Chanel No. 22, which I might also wear this week, but Liu feels warmer and more intimate, though less modern.
Floral Aldehydic twins!!
I went back to Eau Capitale yesterday after you mentioned the pronounced rose note for you and I am struck by the way the pepper and patchouli throw me off the rose. Patchouli is also dominant for me in POAL, at least compared to rose forward fragrances like Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Mai or Sa Majeste La Rose. This is such an interesting CP!
It’s not a rose soliflore for sure, and I agree that patchouli is strong here.
I’ve just sprayed a little of Eau Capitale on myself. Rose… Patchouli takes over… Rose again… Now mostly rose, but it’s faded, musky, less fresh. No pepper for me, and I think bergamot amplifies the freshness of rose in the opening.
So, yes, I am getting more rose than you are, and it just shows how important testing is.
I am doing a week of Chanel.
Before reading Glanny’s post above I already sprayed Chanel No. 22. I am wearing a spray of the EdT from a decant that has a few sprays left 🙁 and a few drops of the glorious parfum behind each ear. Clean face and a Chanel lippy for volunteering later today at the library.
Front and center on the business section of the WSJ was the layoff of 7K employees at Estee Lauder. Things have been really shaken up in the beauty industry these days.
I am disappointed so far in this Onyx Storm book I have been reading. As soon as I am done I will go back to Cher’s memoir
Almost went with your scent today. But Liu won. You smell amazing, of course.
You smell great, I love No. 22.
Beige was my wedding perfume but No 22 a close contender.
I feel very elegant when I wear it. Even in my cowboy boots today.
You smell great, and I am sporting the same sort of face-moisturized, with only a Chanel lipstick-one of their new mattes. I like this sort of look 😉
Which color if you don’t mind sharing.
I love sharing about perfume and cosmetics:) It’s 467 Preceuse. I intended to buy the lacquer 78 in Tenacious, but it isn’t made anymore. This is in the same vein-a deep berry pink. The coverage is buildable, lasts quite a few hours, doesn’t dry my lips out and fades evenly. Tenacious is still my preferred shade but this one is really good, too. Which shade did you choose?
Chanel Rouge Coco 446 – Etienne
I couldn’t find your color online to take a look at the color
Found it! Gorgeous color
I’m curious about your Chanel matte lipstick too. I would love to find a matte dusty rose🌹
allo the colours are really pretty. Preceuse is really pretty but more vibrant than what you’re describing. There is another one in the matte pearl shades that might be closer to what you are describing-I forget it’s name.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried Chanel No 22 – I must fix that next time I’m overseas!
Yes, it is beautiful 😻
Oh Gaynor it’s beautiful!
No. 22 is probably the most “Chanel” of their scents to my nose, even beating out No. 5.
I think I may have over sprayed today
No one will dare make a scene about it, though. No. 22 won’t let them. 🤣🤣
I agree😊
This morning I am wearing Nicolai Rose Royale layered with MFK Oud Satin Mood extrait roll on and loving the combination. Rose is one of my favourite notes.
I will try to wear scents where the Rose is not the first thing you smell, getting ideas from you all.
Have a great week.
House twins! Le Temps d’une Fete for me today.
I’m wearing Halston (Classic), from a new bottle. I bought this one after reading a column on reformulations, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and Halston was reported as being quite like its original formulation. Back in the day, this was one of my sister’s favorites, but I never wore it. I smell no rose, although rose is listed in the middle notes.
I was thinking about that one, too, when I went through my list. I have a vintage sample bottle. I may get to it later this week, but it was my mother’s scent so I have to be in the right mood.
Such a wondrous scent to me and I consider the Elsa Peretti designed bottle to be so sensuous! Enjoy wearing it today!
Vintage Calèche is gorgeous! I’m saving that for later in the week, and today I’m in Soivohle Paracelsus. It has a dark rose note that is not so much toned down as abetted by the patchouli, cèpes, dark chocolate and tobacco that are also in there. Lovely in our sub-freezing temperatures this morning.
It’s cold 🥶 where I am too
😍😍😍 Paracelsus!!
Today, since I now have the gist of the CP, I’m wearing Tauer’s PHI, which is a big benzoin bomb on me and I love it! Benzoin isn’t in the note list but I’d bet my bottom dollar it’s in there. Im sure there some rose in there, but the best part is I don’t smell it. 😜
Had a very laid back day yesterday, dawdling and reading, a bit of cleaning, etc. Finally got my summer plans locked down. The schedule is fabulous: 230 to 7pm for seven days in a row then a week off, alternating all summer!! Plenty of time on my working days to get the Baby T-Rex out and about and the every-other-week off is fabulous. It’s a huge county park with miles of hiking, equestrian, and mountain bike trails! Later today, I’m off to see a man about a bike! 🚲
Now, my second cuppa and errands…Have a great day, all!
That sounds like a great schedule! What part of the world will you be in?
Hold the phone…the MIDWEST! A place I’ve avoided as a travel nurse because of violent swings in weather and temperatures….more specifically, Minnesota. 🦟 I will miss the pronghorns and the sunsets in Utah but have much better pay, better schedule, and the amenities can’t be beat. Plus it’s a legit professional organization that was very thorough-background check, drug screen, two interviews! I have a good feeling about it, and hoping the job works well for both myself and the employer so returning next year is an option. ⛺️🔥
Congratulations! Sounds like it’s made for you.
Thank you! My goal this summer it to really focus on getting healthier- better sleep, better exercise, and better eating habits. Wish me luck!
Congratulations on your plans for the summer. I am curious now where it is in Minnesota since that’s where I grew up.
Thank you, I just sent you an email…📧
Yay! Yeah, probably fewer balloons, but sounds like a great job.
Fingers crossed! The balloons have been great to see in person. The balloon festival is a HUGE event for RVers. Campground prices quadruple during that time, and tons of people so not for me, but I bet it would be amazing to see!
I spent 3 mos spread out over a long time in MN on a project. People -lovely! State Fair- off the charts! Favorite part- Twin Cities had wild lilacs all over the place in the late spring/early summer and the fragrance wafting in while driving with the windows down was heavenly!
Woo-hoo for the Midwest!
Fingers and toes crossed for your jaunt into MN! It sounds like a wonderful opportunity.
It sounds like you and T-Rex are going to have a good summer! Congrats!
That sounds so perfect for you Deva!
I’m in Cormandel EDT which feels like it sparkles in the cold weather. I think I smell great and it makes me happy. My favourite small perfumerie closed-sign of the times, I guess, but I’ll miss it so much.
You smell wonderful! I’m so sorry to hear about your perfumerie closing. The same thing happened in my neighborhood and it felt like a big loss. I miss sniffing there, of course but it had also become a community and an oasis of calm and beauty in these crazy times.
yes, allo-that’s exactly what it felt like to me. A chance to go in, be seen, try beautiful things and receive tips on how to look the way you want to look. A feeling of being accepted and appreciated.
That is what I’ve found NST to be during my short tenure here: a community and an oasis of calm and beauty in these crazy times allo!
Chanel twins
happy to be twinning 🙂
You smell fabulous!
Thank you, Kris 🙂
That’s a rotten shame your favorite local(?) perfume store closed. Small businesses like that are what make places special.
Joining Robin in vintage Calèche. This is such a gorgeous fragrance and always reminds me of AnnE because she loves Calèche and inspired me to wear it.
I love Caleche. I also tried a special edition one summer, back in 2010-fleurs de mediterranean, I think, and loved it.
That reminds me… haven’t seen AnnE around recently. Hope she’s all right.
Hey twin!! (Although as usual I am late, mine is long worn off and probably yours is too)
Hello NST:)
In Hypnotic Poison again as the craving keeps coming lol. Hope you have a wonderful day! 🌹
Smelling fabulous as usual, love HP. Have a great day too, Omega!
One of these days I have to repurchase HP.
Hypnotic Poison probably has the coolest looking bottle out of all the Poisons. It even beats Midnight.
I’m wearing Y-Uszac Lale which has a drowsy, summer late-afternoon vibe…barefoot on the verandah watching insects hover over the garden sort of thing. Rose is a minor note, wafting across . I watched Queer last night and Daniel Craig as the William Burroughs stand-in was excellent capturing the loneliness and longing/ desperation of the character. Beautiful sets, colours etc for the Mexico City section …had the look of being filmed on sets ( which I think it was, in Rome).
Ears perk up : Daniel Craig
Lol.👍
Good to hear, even the trailer was impressive. I look forward to seeing it.
Sotd 69 y/o Shalimar Eau de Toilette applied w its Lalique stopper
Today would have been my parents’ 70th Platinum Wedding Anniversary. Mom is still alive as is her Maid of Honor her sister my aunt. We’re celebrating with dinner tonight.
The fragrance was a first anniversary gift from Feb 5, 1956. It hasn’t aged well, but the marriage did for 42 yrs until my darling Dad passed away. Top notes gone, but base has endured, sort of like a long-term union perhaps.
Vive L’Amour! Vive Shalimar!
I love everything about this, thank you for sharing it here 🌹
🌹🌹🌹ringthing thank you!
Very nice story. Have a wonderful dinner tonight.
I was thinking about the anniversary of the loss of your father while I was writing this. Thank you for the good wishes while you’re commemorating your own wonderful parents Kris!
How cool you have the first anniversary present! Enjoy your dinner!
I calculated the bottle has survived 6 moves in 42 yrs including across country plus a rambunctious toddler (me!) who always wanted to smell like Mommy! It’s amazing it’s in one piece. Thank you lillyjo!
Lovely thoughts! Best wishes to your mom and aunt!
Apsara, thank you! 🎂🥂🍾 for dessert plus a retelling of wedding stories with a liberal sprinkling of what a great guy my dad Joe was (yes, completely biased here)!
Aww, what a lovely story, and love how the Shalimar represents a long relationship. 🙂
Thank you ockeghem! I bet there are many many moving love stories among NSTers (is that what y’all call yourselves? I’m still learning. Looking forward to hearing them in the future!
I love that you used something so special for such a special occasion 🙂
I do usually associate a fragrance or a distinctive smell with special memories. Dad always wore Aramis and I’ve been known to follow a man around a shopping center when I catch a whiff; the man are usually quite old frankly. The younger generation hasn’t embraced some of the older scents. Adore that one gentleman here wore Hai Karate. That was in Dad’s rotation but not his signature. Also some 9 Flags and original Old Spice. Thank you for taking a moment to share this with me Carole!
My dad bathed himself in Aramis. To this day I love the smell of it, but don’t smell it often anymore.
The story is so touching, I bet you smell amazing in that preserved drydown and have a wonderful, celebratory dinner this evening.
Thank you Aurora! Mom and I are twinning in our Shalimar. And I’m trying to recreate their wedding luncheon menu as much as I can.
That is so sweet.
Awwwwwwwww. Your post is a little bittersweet. Enjoy the time with your Mom and Aunt.
Yes, it is a wee bit bittersweet, aurora. We all miss my father!
Just finished the weights workout and will finally try my Chanel Comete sample today. I’ll come back and post thoughts later. I need to go to Costco which is not something I enjoy doing, but at least I’ll smell elegant.
I noticed you didn’t wear it yesterday. I think you will enjoy Comete.
I bet several folks will comment how lovely your fragrance is springpansy!
I almost laughed out loud when I sprayed on the Comete sample. It’s SO very Chanel. Really beautiful and I can see the appeal, but a little too powdery for my preference. I feel like it reminds me of something…but can’t quite figure out what. A richer and creamier La Pausa? A lighter and less violet Lipstick Rose? A different take on my Ambre a Levres by Nez? I still prefer the Nez, but enjoyed the sample journey.
Is anyone else interested in trying Comete? I can send my sample on!
I found it very powdery too. It reminded me of White Linen in feel more than smell.
Thanks for posting your thoughts on Comete! I think you are the second or third person to say that it’s quite powdery.
Good morning! And it is definitely a good morning here, it’s a public holiday for Waitangi Day and I’m taking a day’s leave tomorrow, so I have a four day weekend.
I’m eating breakfast and contemplating the day, Guerlain’s Vol de Nuit has come to mind and Fragrantica tells me it has a rose note amongst many things.
Enjoy your long weekend.
Yay! Hope you enjoy the time off Gaynor.
Volunteering later so a few discreet sprays of PHI Rose.
So you’ll be discreeting and discreeting instead of basking and basking! Very thoughtful apsara!
Very mindful.
I’m taking half a point for Montale Black Aoud, which is mainly rose but it’s smacked with oud and patchouli pretty hard. When I think of a beast mode perfume, this is it, in a good way.
Are you getting the freezing rain tonight?
Supposed to, you guys too?
yeah but it looks like the worst of it will be just south of me. I’m in the advisory until mid morning.
Decided to go big or go home with Lyric. About to head to Aldi for some odds and ends.
Lyric is definitely going BEEG!
Jil Sander No. 4 for me today. Rose is in there, along with the kitchen sink. 🙂
I love kitchen sink perfumes!
I am wearing Panthere de Cartier parfum today. It’s one of those big 80’s scents with every note you can imagine tucked in it somewhere. Rose is one of the notes, but I can’t detect it.
You smell lovely.
Smoothie is two oranges intead
Selected Parfum d’Empire Cuir Ottoman this morning, a gentle, friendly leather and tonight Missoni Gianduia which is still my best chocolate fragrance.
*instead
You inspired me! Just snacked on two luscious tangerines for a Vitamin C fix!
Yay for tangerines, enjoy.
I need to start wearing some of my leather perfumes again.
We can twin on leather scents if you do, I’m in a leather phase😀
Citrus fruits are so tasty right now. Good choice! 😋
Yes, it’s peak season, my oranges are from Spain.
That’s much more exotic than my citrus, LOL!
Having somewhat of a craptacular work week 💩 but I am smelling fine in Fifth Sense which was part of 4160 Tuesdays January Joy Box. It’s got peppermint, lavender and geranium and smells like how a wonderful spa might. 🧖🏼♀️
Oh gosh I’m totally loving the apropos word craptacular! That’s a keeper! Sorry your week is above-mentioned adjective but that Joy Box is a total winner for lifting your mood. The spa metaphor is absolutely perfect I bet.
Ugh, sorry that your week has been a big old pile of manure!
Sorry to hear about 💩week at work, at least you smell very nice. I’m intrigued by all those aromatic notes.
This week has been and will continue to be a great smelling one for me. I have lots of perfume loves that include a rose note but don’t smell primarily of rose. Today I’m in Bengale Rouge. I spent the first couple days of the week in Lush Cardamom Coffee and Maison Anonyme Pale Fire. I actually went ahead and finally bought a bottle of the latter yesterday evening so that’s something to look forward to. I’ve already made quite a few perfume purchases this year, oopsie.
Yay for oopies!
I am pretty pleased and unremorseful about every single purchase, so that makes it feel ok.
Sometimes I have “Oops!…I Did It Again” go thru my mind when I have a streak of perfume purchases.
Have fun with them!
😂
SOTD = Parfums de Marly Delina
Wonderful!

In other news … here’s an article on taking naps. Do it bit for no longer than 20 minutes; otherwise, it will mess up your sleep!
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/well/afternoon-fatigue.html?unlocked_article_code=1.uk4.q-sO.Lvby04tNadZp&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
My COBRA insurance will terminate at the end of the month. I looked into various options and may have come up with my choices. I am curious to know what you’ve experienced (NOT Medicare) with companies like AmeriHealth, aetnaCVSHealth, OSCAR, Horizon, UnitedHealthcare. I’ll repeat this list tomorrow since I am posting late. Thanks.
If I nap for too long I end up having bad dreams. I rarely nap because of this.
United Healthcare was decent enough, but I had to deal with a data breach of theirs that exposed my info.
Also had a data breach with Aetna.
I got so tired of worrying about data breaches that I finally froze my credit. It took a lot less time than anticipated, and completely worth it for the peace of mind! I highly recommend it if you’re not needing to have your credit checked in the near future. And even if you do, you can apparently easily un-freeze it for the credit check.
Solid advice. I’ve recently told my brother to consider freezing his credit, since he has received multiple breach notifications. Great minds think alike!
I did that too. At this point, everybody’s data is everywhere.
I am under a freezing rain advisory for tonight. Thankfully I am home now and I don’t need to go anywhere tomorrow.
My sotd is Dior Addict. I think this is my favorite vanilla. This and Angelique Noire.
Freezing rain = BLETCH! Glad you are safe at home.
Smelling great in Dior!
Glad you’ll be safe at home tomorrow. I have Addict but somehow don’t wear it.
Sunny and WARM here today. I think it got up to 62 degrees. Teflon kitty is a fan of this, and was much more active than she has been. She is currently thundering around the apartment as I type. 😺
Much better mood today for me. I have an upcoming somber anniversary this weekend; it will be 36 years since my Dad passed away unexpectedly. He was relatively young at the time.
Some body products were thunked today! That means I can dig into my stash and pull something else out to enjoy.
SOTD = commando for perfume, but wearing a scented body butter on my shins. Because that’s what I do. 😊
I’m glad you are in better spirits today. Send me that 62 degrees!
I’ll try, but no promises! 😉 The warm temps came with a healthy side of wind, though. Not sure you’d care for that.
Thundering kitty! And congrats on a couple of thunks. It’s quite satisfying to make progress. I have such a hoard of products so I need to make a concerted effort with a few things.
I’m sorry you’ve been feeling low.
February is usually a downer month for me. It’s something I expect and accept. If I don’t fight the mood, and let it ride, I come out of it sooner.
Hope you get to feeling a little less down soon. I know I was thinking of my dad yesterday who died 30 years ago. He was quite young too, so I know how you feel. It will be spring soon so there is that to look forward to.
Not sad today, but contemplative. I now have more birthdays under my belt than my Dad did. It’s a weird feeling.
Same.
Yay for thunking products. Do you think body lotions and creams have a shorter shelf life than perfumes? I tend to find it so.
I’ve had only 1 lotion go bad among all the ones I’ve ever purchased. But yes, body lotions/creams/butters do have a shorter lifespan than perfumes. Some of my lotions have been around for years and are still fine. I keep them away from heat & light.
CP points for me today, I’m in VC&A Moonlight Patchouli. It’s got rose… and I don’t really detect it!
PSA for other lovers of miniature bottles. I picked up a couple of VC&A miniatures at a discounter a few months ago and have been enjoying them. They are adorable BUT when you pull off the cap, there’s actually a detached rubber stopper underneath. It’s fiddly to remove and impossible to do so without getting perfume all over your fingers.
I saw those minis. I have a Boucheron mini with one of those stoppers. it stops me from wanting to wear it. lol.
There’s got to be a way to remove that stopper without making a mess and spilling the goodies… 🤔
Today I’m in Chanel Paris-Venise lotion (which has rose as a note) layered underneath Zara Livre Blanc.
Busy couple of days here so I haven’t reported in. I wore Guerlain Vol de Nuit and SL Iris Silver Mist earlier this week. Last night I wore some vintage Oscar de la Renta (definitely a kitchen sink scent which i believe contains rose).
the other day at the grocery store I was almost certain a lady was wearing Oscar. I was thinking that or maybe Lair du Temps (sp?) which in my memory smells similar.
Both were popular back in the day!
Back in the day, Oscar de la Renta was beautiful. Loved getting a sniff at the perfume counter.
Wasn’t it? My friend bought me a giant bottle for a birthday way back in the day. Fragrance counters were so fun!
Last night I earned CP points in ELDO You Or Someone Like You. The mint and grapefruit combo is refreshing.
Today went commando, but now spritzed Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin for more CP points. I’d like to sample some more of hers, but not sure I need a whole discovery set.
Another long work day, but actually feel like I’m digging myself out of the hole, which feels nice.
Made some broccoli cheddar soup tonight. Yum. I always add vadouvan curry to it. It sent taste intensely curry, but enhances the cheesy vibes. I rarely like any restaurant or store-bought broccoli cheddar soup, but always love my own.
