The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 17 January 2025 6 Comments

Not one of my lemmings but maybe it will make your list: Pierre Guillaume's new car fragrance. "If, like us, you’re particularly sensitive to the delicious but ephemeral smell of a new car, Road&eau is the signature car scent to adopt. A blend of the scent of dashboard materials and new carpets, the smell of cleanliness and a je-ne-sais-quoi of softness and warmth, Road&eau is a unisex, tender and delicate fragrance that will elegantly dress the interior of your car to make it the cocoon of your road trips, for your pleasure and that of your passengers." €35 for 50 ml at Pierre Guillaume.

And to think, years ago I was happy with those pine tree air fresheners dangling from the rear view mirror. They were more affordable, for sure.

I don’t own a car but I would happily use this as a parfum d’ambiance.

I don’t like the “new car” smell so unlikely I would use it anywhere, but who knows, maybe it is lovely.

I read somewhere that the ‘new car smell’ is chemicals off gassing from the plastic and vinyl interior and is toxic. It can sometimes leave a film on your car window when the car is closed up in hot weather. Anyway, years ago, I had a friend who would leave a box of Irish spring soap in the glove compartment, and when that off gassed, it left a very clean green smell.

That is a great idea! Cheap and cheerful. I used to put a dryer sheet under the seat. I quit using dryer sheets, but miss that in my car.
