Wednesday scent of the day 1/15

Posted by Robin on 15 January 2025 141 Comments

It’s Hump Day, plus Martin Luther King’s birthday and the halfway point of meteorological winter. What fragrance are you wearing?

I’m celebrating winter (weather) being half over in Fendi Theorema.

Reminder: 1/17 is Betty White's (1922-2021) birthday. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme. If you need it: Betty White: A legacy of saucy joy that never grew old at The Christian Science Monitor, Why Betty White is so awesome at Today, Betty White, Progressive Superhero of TV History at Peabody Awards.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is from the Fendi campaign for Spring Summer 2024.

    Hello.
Sotd is grown up cherry in TF Oud Wood x Lost Cherry.
Plan for the day is to head to Jo Malone and smell Taif Rose. I like the cologne intense line so I hope it’ll be a good one.

I’m wearing Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia. Plus, there’s the scent of a Honeysuckle Jasmine wax melt wafting through the flat, so I’ve gone full white floral in the middle of winter.

I love BWFs in winter. Over the past couple of days, I’ve been wearing TF Black Orchid Voile de Fleur (sweet plummy tuberose on me) and Amouage Memoir Woman (leathery/furry/herbal tuberose).

(The first time I smelled Carnal Flower, it was -8 and sunny outside, and I swear to you that CF *danced*.)

Yes, I think BFS are great in winter. While some need a bit of warmth to bloom, perfumes like Carnal Flower are made for this season. I am not familiar with the other two you mentioned, but they sound like great picks, too.

I bought that TF scent at winners-one bottle was there forever, and I think I paid $3.00 for it. I think it’s beautiful, too, and smells great in the cool weather. Carnal Flower and Songes, too 🙂

Between the fires and family evacuations (we are all ok), I completely lost a week, so I’m still scrabbling madly to fulfill *last* Friday’s Denmark CP. My belated contribution is that this morning I’m wearing Bulgari’s Eau Parfumee Au The Rouge. I have a mini of the clear glass bottle and have just received in a swap the big red bottle (set aside for now until the swap is complete). In re-testing my mini, which I think is the original version, I definitely smell some sweet Scandy baking spices like cardamom and perhaps nutmeg? (though they aren’t listed so maybe it’s just my imagination?).
Does anyone know if the red bottle version is different than the clear bottle?

I’m participating in this week’s CP this morning only because I could still smell last night’s Ummagumma on my wrists when I got up, and I heard Betty White’s voice in my head saying “oomagooma” (which I read somewhere is how it’s supposed to be pronounced), over and over. 🤣

    Joining Robin in Theorema.

Yesterday Mr. SP and I finally signed all our will/trust documents. It is quite the process and left me feeling unsettled and a little sad. It’s certainly a wise thing to do, but thinking about the death of any of the SP family is quite hard, of course. The attorney also sent us a a document with prompts to write a “forever” letter (see paragraph below) to each of our (grown) children, to go along with the will. I think it’s an excellent idea that will be quite hard for me to write — at least not without a lot of tears. Have any of you done this?

“You can share your values and beliefs, as well as your wisdom, wishes, and gratitude. It can include personal stories, history, and what you appreciated about the people you have left behind. You can give advice or make requests. This is also an opportunity for you to reflect on your own decisions, experiences, and values. Essentially, this letter is a way for you to leave a piece of yourself for your loved ones when they need it the most.”

springpansy, that’s the best thing you can do for your loved ones. Let your wishes be known now while you’re healthy. From experience I would say evreyone needs a will, and if there are items that are precious to family members make sure they’re dispersed as you’d wish them to be. It’s not pleasant to ponder on anyone’s demise, but it’s the kindest thing you can do for your loved ones, IMHO 🙂

I would do it. When my father died, I wish he would have done this, because his death tore the relationship that I had with my older sibling in half. He left a will yes, but it would have been beneficial to have something deeper from him to keep our feet on the ground. It’s been over 10 years since my father passed and finally my older sibling and I are mending the fence.

I have not done that, it’s interesting idea.

My. mother is still alive but I think the best thing she did, and she started the process years ago, is to make sure that all 3 of her daughters knew absolutely everything in her will, and that everyone had a chance to speak up if there were particular things they wanted …there will be no surprises after she dies.

When my. husband and I made wills we sat our son down and explained everything, and after my husband died I made my son sit down to hear what had changed in my will. He has very little interest and it all seems to make him a little uncomfortable, but at least I know there will be no surprises for him either.

SotD Cinnabar – The bottle (new style) had worked its way to the front of the unboxed cabinet. so I spritzed away. A very good choice for the cold, dry weather we are having. It is very retro smelling, and I think it outperforms some of the vintage versions I have of it.

I was reading about Betty on Wikipedia and realized what a business mogul she was, especially in the “game show queen” era of her career. That was in the 80s, so today I’m wearing Paloma Picasso as a women’s power perfume. It smells so good on a very cold day, and we have blue skies and sunshine! Sun makes all the difference in wintertime.

I still can’t believe that my parents let us watch “Match Game” when we were kids.

Remember “Mad Libs”? A kid-friendly version.

Betty White and my mother were born the same year – 1922.
She was such a powerful advocate for animals, I loved that about her.

Signed up to be a volunteer for the Red Cross – now and long term since this will be a years long effort for LA to recover.

Am driving a group of senior pets to a senior foster group in San Francisco next week.

SOTD is JM Black Vetyver Cafe.

Betty and Doris Day were huge proponents for animal rights! Wish I wasn’t contracted right now, because I’m sure I could do something non-nursery in LA. I could easily dump my camper somewhere safe and use the dually to haul just about anything….kudos to you for volunteering!

    Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie

It was cloudy today but not cold. I wore Shalimar Philtre, perhaps my favorite flanker although Millésime Tonka comes close and tonight Diptyque l’Eau that someone – I can’t remember who now – wore last week, perfect in the co,d with its warming cinnamon.

Going with what I said yesterday I’m wearing another perfume bought at Anthropologie. Today it’s Ineke Sweet William in the adorable book packaging for the travel size. You can see how cute they are here: https://cafleurebon.com/new-fragrance-review-ineke-ruhland-hothouse-flower-sweet-william-bringing-raw-materials-to-the-table-in-new-york/

This was a Christmas gift from my partner, probably in 2012, the year they were released. Sadly, my bottle has been evaporating so I’m focused on finishing it up this year. Probably just have a few ml left now. The perfume itself has also changed with the evaporation. It’s more about the fruits now with less of the clove and patchouli detectable. Still an enjoyable perfume though.

I had three of those Ineke perfumes in a book box. So cute. Thank you for reminding me of them.

They all were delightful scents. Sweet William was so nice. You smell great today!

        From the email:

“Some of you will be familiar with the January Joy Box, but if you’re new here, this is what you need to know. It’s not an advent calendar; it’s a welcome to the New Year. We have a 16-scent collection of perfumes to open every two days from 1st to 31st January.
Some of us discuss them on our Facebook Group, 4160Tuesdays News, to cheer us up during those days when we’re all skint and miserable and it gets dark just after lunch time.
For 2025 the fragrances are all new, and you won’t have smelled them before. We post them out in December. There are about 20 sprays worth in each 2ml vial, so you can share if you’re feeling generous. Start on 1st January and you get two days to test each one, ending on 31st, by which time we’ve all probably got used to writing 2025.
There’s a superdeluxe version too, with (official) 7.5mls which really hold 9ml of perfume. It’s here in our gift department.”

How marvelous! I’m not on FB and in California, so the shipping costs would be prohibitive even if there were any left. But inspired by the concept.

It’s easy when you can copy and paste 😇.

I think the shipping cost is by country so there should be no difference east coast versus west coast.

          • LesLiesse says:
            15 January 2025 at 11:06 pm

Isn’t it shipping from the United Kingdom? I did t see the January Joy Box status on the website in case there’s any left.

If you sign up for emails from 4160 Tuesdays you will get alerted to new items and sales, etc. In terms of shipping, I am in CA too and don’t think there would be any difference based on location in the US. I had ordered something from their Tempest Rose crowdfund so requested they add the JJB to that and they did so I only incurred the one shipping charge.

SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays While We Are Asleep EDP

Minty fruity floral – no bad!

IG is not allowing me to post anything new, i.e. it saves whatever it wants to save and after 3x, I gave up and will try again later.

Also, since today is National Bagel Day and there’s a new limited edition Asiago Cheese Bagel 🥯 stack (I think you can replace it for another type of bagel), I ordered one and got a free bagel! Loved it! I am still enjoying my virtually free coffee.

Latest forecast for the cold here is 5.5 days. And the potential snow amounts have been upped as well.

        But 4 – 8 inches really isn’t a big deal to me.
