It’s Hump Day, plus Martin Luther King’s birthday and the halfway point of meteorological winter. What fragrance are you wearing?
I’m celebrating winter (weather) being half over in Fendi Theorema.
Reminder: 1/17 is Betty White's (1922-2021) birthday. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme. If you need it: Betty White: A legacy of saucy joy that never grew old at The Christian Science Monitor, Why Betty White is so awesome at Today, Betty White, Progressive Superhero of TV History at Peabody Awards.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is grown up cherry in TF Oud Wood x Lost Cherry.
Plan for the day is to head to Jo Malone and smell Taif Rose. I like the cologne intense line so I hope it’ll be a good one.
Have fun. Report back!
Oh yes, a report would be wonderful!
Also wanting to hear about JM Taif Rose!
I’m wearing Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia. Plus, there’s the scent of a Honeysuckle Jasmine wax melt wafting through the flat, so I’ve gone full white floral in the middle of winter.
I love BWFs in winter. Over the past couple of days, I’ve been wearing TF Black Orchid Voile de Fleur (sweet plummy tuberose on me) and Amouage Memoir Woman (leathery/furry/herbal tuberose).
(The first time I smelled Carnal Flower, it was -8 and sunny outside, and I swear to you that CF *danced*.)
Yes, I think BFS are great in winter. While some need a bit of warmth to bloom, perfumes like Carnal Flower are made for this season. I am not familiar with the other two you mentioned, but they sound like great picks, too.
I bought that TF scent at winners-one bottle was there forever, and I think I paid $3.00 for it. I think it’s beautiful, too, and smells great in the cool weather. Carnal Flower and Songes, too 🙂
Wow! That’s a smokin’ deal! Do you think they didn’t realize what it was?
Agree!! I treasure my bottle of BOVdF, which is from an NST Swapmeet.
No, I think it was just there for a long time. Bought my bottle of Ferre while I was there, too-the one that smells a lot like Iris Poudre. Another $3.00 🙂
Oh, I love Voile de Fleur and rarely see it mentioned. I’ll have to wear it soon, thank for the reminder.
Tahitian Gardenia was lovely. Too bad Pacifica discontinued it.
I’m continuing the week with Alkemia perfume oils. Today I’m wearing Among the Pines, which is a piney, aromatic scent.
Alkemia makes some interesting stuff.
Between the fires and family evacuations (we are all ok), I completely lost a week, so I’m still scrabbling madly to fulfill *last* Friday’s Denmark CP. My belated contribution is that this morning I’m wearing Bulgari’s Eau Parfumee Au The Rouge. I have a mini of the clear glass bottle and have just received in a swap the big red bottle (set aside for now until the swap is complete). In re-testing my mini, which I think is the original version, I definitely smell some sweet Scandy baking spices like cardamom and perhaps nutmeg? (though they aren’t listed so maybe it’s just my imagination?).
Does anyone know if the red bottle version is different than the clear bottle?
I can’t answer your question, but I am very happy to hear you are all okay. Thinking of you!!
I’m glad to hear you’re OK, it’s a very scary time.
Glad you are okay there.
Also glad to hear from you.
Glad you are all ok, thanks for checking in.
Au These Rouge was such a good scent and not like anything else. I don’t know the difference between the red and clear bottles but I do know that you smell wonderful!
Very happy you and family are OK.
So glad to read this.
Happy to hear a fellow Angeleno is safe!
Evacuations are always awful. Glad you and yours are all ok!
Glad to hear from you, and that you/your family are OK!
I’m glad you continue to be safe, Denise.
I’m participating in this week’s CP this morning only because I could still smell last night’s Ummagumma on my wrists when I got up, and I heard Betty White’s voice in my head saying “oomagooma” (which I read somewhere is how it’s supposed to be pronounced), over and over. 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Haha, I love that.
Because I know there are Colm Tóibín fans here, a link to a 9 January piece in the London Review of Books on the LA fires
https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v47/n01/colm-toibin/in-la
Oh, my, that’s very chilling. Thank you for sharing it.
Thanks Robin.
Thank you Robin, it highlights the uncertainty people feel.
If I weren’t a Colm Tiobin (auto correct does not like this man, you wouldn’t believe what alternatives came up) before, you would have to be after reading this piece.
Today is a Shalimar day for me today. All is quiet on the western front for me and I am enjoying it today.
Shalimar is the queen. You smell great
Of course you smell great.
in Marfa by Memo from a sample.
Not that I need another lipstick or gloss or anything! But my daily lemming is the Laudere/Estée Lauder collaboration. They are scented too… Trying to stay strong!
Let me know if you want some enabling…..lipstick is so necessary in the winter as a face (and day) brightener, color is good for the soul.
I know.. have you seen the ad?

Should I just go for it? lol
They’re very pretty 😉
You are not helping 💴 💄
Just out of the shower, buttered myself up liberally with BBW Vanilla Bean Noel Body Creme, then a couple of spritzes of Devotion on top.
They blend well together. I wish I would have like the Devotion better, but it just didn’t work for me.
Oh my, you must smell very delicious! My kitties would try to groom that lotion off of me — does T-Rex do the same?
How funny! Teflon kitty *hates* scented lotions, but loves the unscented stuff I use on my hands.
So many good smelling people here 🙂 I’m in a very small amount of Le Lion-I love it in the cold. I would love it if the bergamot wasn’t so fleeting-I love that note. But it’s a pretty perfect scent.
Hope everyone’s day is peaceful.
It is hard to make bergamot last. Estee Lauder should make a bergamot cream.
Guerlain L’Initial EDP
Hi Barqs! Hope all is well.
I’m wearing 24 Faubourg to go with my dress, which is a light orange.
I love your SOTD
Eau des Merveilles today. I love this anytime of the year!
Kris, such a marvelous fragrance! How do you feel about its flankers? Any secondary favorites ?
You know, I was thinking about that today and I tried a few years ago, but don’t remember what any of them were like. Is there one you would recommend? I was thinking that this one is good in any season, but I am sure some of the flankers are better during a particular season.
You’re reading my mind! I feel exactly as you do.
I have different fragrances for spring/summer and for fall/winter. Since I live in the Midwest there are certain ones that don’t work as well as others depending on the season. I normally don’t use any of them for all seasons, but this one I could.
Joining Robin in Theorema.
Yesterday Mr. SP and I finally signed all our will/trust documents. It is quite the process and left me feeling unsettled and a little sad. It’s certainly a wise thing to do, but thinking about the death of any of the SP family is quite hard, of course. The attorney also sent us a a document with prompts to write a “forever” letter (see paragraph below) to each of our (grown) children, to go along with the will. I think it’s an excellent idea that will be quite hard for me to write — at least not without a lot of tears. Have any of you done this?
“You can share your values and beliefs, as well as your wisdom, wishes, and gratitude. It can include personal stories, history, and what you appreciated about the people you have left behind. You can give advice or make requests. This is also an opportunity for you to reflect on your own decisions, experiences, and values. Essentially, this letter is a way for you to leave a piece of yourself for your loved ones when they need it the most.”
springpansy, that’s the best thing you can do for your loved ones. Let your wishes be known now while you’re healthy. From experience I would say evreyone needs a will, and if there are items that are precious to family members make sure they’re dispersed as you’d wish them to be. It’s not pleasant to ponder on anyone’s demise, but it’s the kindest thing you can do for your loved ones, IMHO 🙂
Thanks!
I would do it. When my father died, I wish he would have done this, because his death tore the relationship that I had with my older sibling in half. He left a will yes, but it would have been beneficial to have something deeper from him to keep our feet on the ground. It’s been over 10 years since my father passed and finally my older sibling and I are mending the fence.
Yes, very wise words. Thanks. Mr. SP experienced something like what you experienced with his siblings. I think the letters will be very helpful. Both Mr. SP and I will write letters to each son.
Yes, it is hard, but not impossible.
It is the biggest gift my parents gave us and something my sister and I did after my brother in law died suddenly.
I knew if mine home was lost in the LA fires there would be things noone would have to worry and wonder about.
Yes, thanks.
I should clarify that I’m definitely going to write the letters! I was just interested in whether any of you have done it. Thanks!
Great! And good luck 🍀
« This is a way for you to leave a piece of yourself with your loved ones for when they need it most. » Oh gosh springpansy, thank you for sharing!
You’re welcome. Just reading the words you quoted made me tear up in the attorney’s office! But I can do this.
We have done our will/trust and our attorney advised us to review it every five years to see if there needed to be any changes. She did not mention doing the letters and to be honest with you I have never heard of this, but it does make sense and would be a nice touch.
I wish my Dad would have written down the stories he used to tell us before he passed away. Used to know them word for word. Now only the outline of the stories are left.
I recorded my Dad talking about his service in WW2, extensively…I have hours of tapes. But there is only about an hour of that where he talks about his childhood and I wish I’d had the sense to make him talk about that more.
Nearly all of my Dad’s stories were about his childhood, his youth, or his young adulthood. I can think of only 1 or 2 stories he told about his time in the Navy.
I have not done that, it’s interesting idea.
My. mother is still alive but I think the best thing she did, and she started the process years ago, is to make sure that all 3 of her daughters knew absolutely everything in her will, and that everyone had a chance to speak up if there were particular things they wanted …there will be no surprises after she dies.
When my. husband and I made wills we sat our son down and explained everything, and after my husband died I made my son sit down to hear what had changed in my will. He has very little interest and it all seems to make him a little uncomfortable, but at least I know there will be no surprises for him either.
I’m in Guerlain Insolence edt. The Betty White tie-in is when Valerie Bertinelli had her cooking show, she did a lovely tribute to Betty.
Apparently she loved red licorice, so this fragrance is the one that I have closest to the candy. Plus it’s just fun, like Betty White was to watch.
Great connection to Betty White. She was fun!
SotD Cinnabar – The bottle (new style) had worked its way to the front of the unboxed cabinet. so I spritzed away. A very good choice for the cold, dry weather we are having. It is very retro smelling, and I think it outperforms some of the vintage versions I have of it.
Oh you smell wonderful today. Perfect winter scent.
you smell great!
Have and love Cinnabar!
Oh wow! Glad to hear the new version holds up.
I’m in Patou’s Adieu Sagesse, which is just a great biggish scent with a vintage feel. I got three Heritage Patous last year, and I can never remember which is which 🙂
Adieu Sagesse is beautiful. That one was the first Heritage Collection Patou that I picked up.
Mine was Vacances!
I was reading about Betty on Wikipedia and realized what a business mogul she was, especially in the “game show queen” era of her career. That was in the 80s, so today I’m wearing Paloma Picasso as a women’s power perfume. It smells so good on a very cold day, and we have blue skies and sunshine! Sun makes all the difference in wintertime.
You smell great, PP wears me though, I admire those who can wear it.
I can’t survive without the sun

Here she is on Match Game. One of my favorite game shows.
Thanks lillyjo! I liked Match Game too.
I still can’t believe that my parents let us watch “Match Game” when we were kids.
Remember “Mad Libs”? A kid-friendly version.
I loved that show too.
Betty White and my mother were born the same year – 1922.
She was such a powerful advocate for animals, I loved that about her.
Signed up to be a volunteer for the Red Cross – now and long term since this will be a years long effort for LA to recover.
Am driving a group of senior pets to a senior foster group in San Francisco next week.
SOTD is JM Black Vetyver Cafe.
Betty and Doris Day were huge proponents for animal rights! Wish I wasn’t contracted right now, because I’m sure I could do something non-nursery in LA. I could easily dump my camper somewhere safe and use the dually to haul just about anything….kudos to you for volunteering!
I love my home, Deva and so gotta help.
This got me in the heart apsara.
That’s awesome, apsara!
Love the volunteer work that you will be doing. 😻
Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie
It was cloudy today but not cold. I wore Shalimar Philtre, perhaps my favorite flanker although Millésime Tonka comes close and tonight Diptyque l’Eau that someone – I can’t remember who now – wore last week, perfect in the co,d with its warming cinnamon.
Hopefully you won’t have to deal with the cold weather for a while…
*cold
Going with what I said yesterday I’m wearing another perfume bought at Anthropologie. Today it’s Ineke Sweet William in the adorable book packaging for the travel size. You can see how cute they are here: https://cafleurebon.com/new-fragrance-review-ineke-ruhland-hothouse-flower-sweet-william-bringing-raw-materials-to-the-table-in-new-york/
This was a Christmas gift from my partner, probably in 2012, the year they were released. Sadly, my bottle has been evaporating so I’m focused on finishing it up this year. Probably just have a few ml left now. The perfume itself has also changed with the evaporation. It’s more about the fruits now with less of the clove and patchouli detectable. Still an enjoyable perfume though.
I had three of those Ineke perfumes in a book box. So cute. Thank you for reminding me of them.
They all were delightful scents. Sweet William was so nice. You smell great today!
Trying 4160 Tuesdays Lift today from the January Joy Box and it’s lovely…notes include linden, elderflower and jasmine. Have not done the JJB before and I am loving it! 😍
That sounds really pretty.
Gosh what is a January Joy Box? I adore 4160 Tuesdays.
From the email:
“Some of you will be familiar with the January Joy Box, but if you’re new here, this is what you need to know. It’s not an advent calendar; it’s a welcome to the New Year. We have a 16-scent collection of perfumes to open every two days from 1st to 31st January.
Some of us discuss them on our Facebook Group, 4160Tuesdays News, to cheer us up during those days when we’re all skint and miserable and it gets dark just after lunch time.
For 2025 the fragrances are all new, and you won’t have smelled them before. We post them out in December. There are about 20 sprays worth in each 2ml vial, so you can share if you’re feeling generous. Start on 1st January and you get two days to test each one, ending on 31st, by which time we’ve all probably got used to writing 2025.
There’s a superdeluxe version too, with (official) 7.5mls which really hold 9ml of perfume. It’s here in our gift department.”
How marvelous! I’m not on FB and in California, so the shipping costs would be prohibitive even if there were any left. But inspired by the concept.
It’s easy when you can copy and paste 😇.
I think the shipping cost is by country so there should be no difference east coast versus west coast.
Isn’t it shipping from the United Kingdom? I did t see the January Joy Box status on the website in case there’s any left.
If you sign up for emails from 4160 Tuesdays you will get alerted to new items and sales, etc. In terms of shipping, I am in CA too and don’t think there would be any difference based on location in the US. I had ordered something from their Tempest Rose crowdfund so requested they add the JJB to that and they did so I only incurred the one shipping charge.
Thank you for fielding this! 😍
Also THANK YOU hajusuuri for the comprehensive response!!!
It’s sunny and cold here, I am so thankful for the sun. SOTD is Une Rose Chypree. I am picky about roses but this one is gorgeous. I am making Bang Bang Chicken for dinner, a new recipe for me. I hope it comes out well.
Another lover of the sub in wintertime
I grabbed Ulrich Nightscape today and the description just happens to fit Betty White quite well – “Modern, Carnal and Lasting”
Lol 😉
Spicy!
excellent! 😅
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays While We Are Asleep EDP
Minty fruity floral – no bad!
IG is not allowing me to post anything new, i.e. it saves whatever it wants to save and after 3x, I gave up and will try again later.
Also, since today is National Bagel Day and there’s a new limited edition Asiago Cheese Bagel 🥯 stack (I think you can replace it for another type of bagel), I ordered one and got a free bagel! Loved it! I am still enjoying my virtually free coffee.
I’m hoping to score free bagels or donuts tomorrow morning when we do inventory. They usually do one or the other.
An asiago cheese bagel sounds delicious! 😋
I miss real bagels. The ones in the grocery stores here are WAY too puffy and bread-like. You are not supposed to be able to squish them! 😡
I’m working tonight and tomorrow morning for inventory. It’s always so stressful. I’m wearing Lancome Oud Bouquet. I find it so sweet that I can only wear it in the cold. I get no rose from it. I smell mostly praline.
I have a hard time with cold weather, but I do love the difference in the way scents bloom in winter. ❄️
I agree. Maybe I will wear Cristalle tomorrow. It’s wonderful in the cold.
Good luck with inventory. I hope it actually goes smoothly.
Thank you! The worst part for me will be getting up at 430 and driving to work in the snow. All the prep work has been done so it should go pretty well.
Inventory, yuck. Hope it is relatively painless.
My brother has stories about working in retail now that just make me laugh. So familiar! 🤣🤣
So many stories. I should have been writing them down. Lol.
Adding my good wishes for inventory. I hope it goes well.
Thank you!
Good luck with inventory!
Thank you!
Hope inventory is over and went well.
sotd = Hiris
because the blue bottle makes me smile and the scent is great on a cold day, or any day really. 🤩💙
Wishing everyone peace. 😌
Isn’t that bottle fabulous? You smell amazing!
That bottle is bluetiful 🤣.
Bright and sunny here today, with temps in the low 50’s!! Wish I could share this weather with everyone. The nasty stuff will be here all too soon…
SOTD = still in Rihanna Rogue. Perfume monogamy streak!
How long is your artic air going to last? I think it will be about 4 days here.
Latest forecast for the cold here is 5.5 days. And the potential snow amounts have been upped as well.
But 4 – 8 inches really isn’t a big deal to me.
Hope you enjoyed your good weather. I don’t know Rogue but obviously you like it to wear it consecutively.
If you ever smelled the first Bottega Veneta perfume, then you have a good idea of what Rihanna Rogue smells like. They are similar.
