It was … perfume

Posted by Robin on 11 March 2024 Leave a Comment

The world’s biggest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, went viral this week for posting about a new product in its offering. It wasn’t a token. It wasn’t a structured product. It wasn’t equity. It was … perfume.

“Crypto by Binance” has a ring to it, but not in the fragrance market. To be fair, the new scent—billed as "Affordable Affluence" and sold at pop-up stores in Bahrain, is to promote an "Academy” or a learning course and associated credit for women who want to learn more about cryptocurrencies.

Say what you want about “Eau de Binance,” but it beats the crypto industry’s contribution to International Women’s Day in 2022, when Bain Capital Crypto announced its new investment team by enthusiastically posting a collage of seven men. Posted by Robin on 9 March 2024 191 Comments

PSA: Don’t forget to change your clocks tonight! (Unless you live in a happy place that doesn’t bother with daylight savings.)

Today: our annual spring forward poll. As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else. If it’s fall where you live, adjust the questions accordingly.

1. What’s the fragrance you’d most like to add to your collection this spring?

2. You have to vote one perfume in your collection off the island. Which one will go first, and why?

3. It’s time for (fantasy) Spring Break! Where are you going, and pick ONE fragrance to bring with you…

Happy Friday and happy International Women’s Day! The theme for 2024: Inspire Inclusion (“When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world”). Our community project for today: do what you like for Women’s Day…wear a perfume in honor of a woman who is important in your life or an important female historical figure, or wear a perfume by a female perfumer, or ? Thanks to Kanuka for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m still on vacation and still commando…zero points for me this week! I’ll do better next week…

White florals can very easily slip into dated territory

Posted by Robin on 8 March 2024 7 Comments

Another fragrance note that cropped up was white florals, such as jasmine or tuberose. In fact, after sprtizing [sic] some scents in the Who What Wear beauty cupboard, junior beauty editor Grace Lindsay and I came to the conclusion that white florals can very easily slip into dated territory—and other beauty journalists agree.
