Thursday scent of the day 12/19

Posted by Robin on 19 December 2024 145 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Oatmeal Muffin Day! There are 12 more days to go in the year. Birthdays: Italo Svevo, Carter G. Woodson, Jean Genet, Édith Piaf, Cicely Tyson, Richard Leakey. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Fendi Theorema, and I'll almost certainly wear it again tomorrow.

Reminder: 12/20 will be the Holiday Special...wear a perfume inspired by or based on a holiday — any holiday! — or wear a perfume that seems perfectly suited to the holiday of your choice. Suggested by therabbitsflower.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Beautiful picture, Robin, and you smell fantastic.

Wanted to continue my Goutal Paris winning streak and so today I reached for what I thought was Hadrien. What I sprayed was Eau de Charlotte. All those bottles look alike now, plus the writing is tiny and yes I was wearing my contacts lol. SO I added some Hadrien EDT cause it goes with everything.

Had a great quick trip to another small town last night for a haircut. Was a perfect night for a drive-moon nearly full and no snow or rain. Their town square is so pretty-they make a small skating rink for the winter and you can sit and watch the little kids learn how to skate. There’s pretty lights and soft music.

      Your drive really sounds wonderful!
And you’ve just reminded me that I haven’t worn Charlotte in a long time. I’ll start figuring out where my bottle is this weekend.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Delina Exclusif.
I went to Guerlain to preorder the Snake bottle and they actually had the scent (Rouge Bonheur) tester in store! It smells very ginger forward. Warm, spicy, sappy ginger. There is no obvious floral or vanillic creaminess. Imagine Twilly d’Hermes without the tuberose.

I chose vintage Vol de Nuit edt this morning, and it does feel holiday-ish. Reminds me (for some unknown reason) of how snow days felt back when I was working — unexpectedly getting to stay home in my jammies. ❄️

I know exactly what you mean by the “snow days” feeling. It’s been a long time since I worked for an employer who closed up shop (a university) for snow days. And now, as my own employer, I can usually see clients virtually if neither of us can get to the office. I miss that feeling!❄️

Re: the snow days feeling, I am looking forward to what replaces it now, vacation! Today is my last day for 2 weeks and I’m very excited for some downtime.

I’m wearing SL Baptême du Feu – Scorched mandarin peel, Gingerbread, Osmanthus, Gunpowder, Castoreum, Woods….What’s not to love? It’s winter holidays in a bottle🎄🎁❄️

It was just a few spray samples from the manufacturer. Coromandel and Comete edp. She asked me which ones I wanted and while I was trying to decide she basically threw 4 of them in the bag and handed it to me. Guess I was taking too long to decide. 🙃

Confessions of Zeno ( Svevo) is one of my favourite novels of all time so I’m matching it with a perfume, that to me, smells a bit cigarette-ashy ( to match the protagonist) , Copper. A drizzly, misty morning here and it’s so quiet the only sounds are the birds. Very peaceful start to the day.

This is not just almost Friday, it’s really Friday here, and my last day of work for three weeks!
I saw the comment last night from therabbitsflower about the difference between vacations and holidays – the US folk immediately thought about perfumes for the upcoming Christmas holiday and I thought about perfumes that reminded me of trips abroad. We almost speak the same language across our various countries, but not quite!
So, today I’m wearing a perfume suitable for Christmas in cold climates, Fille en Aiguilles. It’s cold here today, so it’s entirely right.

It is one of my favorite notes and yes, I have tried Comete. I liked it a lot, but have enough iris scents already. Plus, I think that Zara Romance d’Iris is similar and much cheaper so decided not to splurge on a bottle of Comete.

Hello NSTers, just stopping by to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and a healthy, peaceful and successful New Year 2025. I have been absent for so many months because I had a very brutal fall in Summer while walking on the street and I have been in a very bad shape since, with unbearable pain, constant vertigos, dizziness and the inability to move around much. I injured myself very badly. The recovery process is very slow, and it is going to take a long time before I can fully recover. I have difficulties typing, writing, reading, etc. Still, I have a very positive attitude and putting everything in God’s hands. One day at a time. This too shall pass.

I am not wearing any perfumes now. Recently, with the help of my youngest sister I was able to check my box of unwanted perfumes, and she sent a couple of my bottles to some NSTers. I just wanted to share a little something with this community who has been so generous and supporting for many years when I have needed it.
I hope next year brings me enough health to be able to enjoy my perfumes and start posting here again. I miss you all a lot. I hope everyone is doing well. Sending hugs and love.

Réminiscence Tonka today and tonight l’Air de Rien, I’m following the evolution, it’s sweet and dusty, completely unique, stays close to the skin and very long-lasting. I’m having Romaine salad and pasta.

A day late, but you smelled so good in L’air de Rien. I agree with you on it being completely unique. I did come across another perfume recently that made me think of LdR in the opening but quickly turned into its own thing. But I can’t remember now what it was. I’ll see if I can figure it out soon.

SOTD is SMN Potpourri. It makes me think of Christmas, although a more serious & contemplative part of Christmas.

This is my week of trying to thunk things…mostly food, but also a couple of perfumes. I do have a holiday perfume thunk coming tomorrow, but today it was Lyric, which I probably only have 2 sprays left of now. I’ll be home soon to my FB.

I tried to look a bit more presentable today, as I headed over a new art museum across the river in Wiesbaden. I’ve been meaning to get there the whole time we’ve been here, and today was really my last chance. Otherwise I’ve just been starting the apartment cleaning prior to moving out, which is an interesting trial and error experiment since I don’t always know which cleaning products work and which don’t. I’m not ready to leave…but life moves on.

Tonight’s a bit bittersweet, as it’s 40 years since my mom died. I think she’d be happy that I’m here, living close to where we did when I was a kid, though.

I hope your return home is smooth with minimal stress. So sorry to hear your mom passed when you must have been quite young? That’s a tough loss to carry around the rest of your life. Hope your holidays bring happy memories of her. 👩‍👧

Yeah, I was a newly minted tween when she died. Way too much exposure to hospitals at an early age, but my memories of the holidays with her are very positive. She loved the time of year and loved living in Germany.

Our return home will probably have less stress than trying to take a train to Belgium with the Deutsche Bahn, as we learned last weekend. But there will still be some stress because there are two stops on the way home and we have a lot of luggage. We’ll survive, though. 🙂 Going to see my 94-year-old grandmother, so I’m looking forward to that.

I’m in Lush Celebrate lotion today. It’s luxuriously moisturizing and smells great; perfect for this time of year. There’s orange and lime oils along with cognac; it must be well blended because I can’t parse out the individual notes.

I’ll have to try using this paired with some winter fragrances since it has some heft, probably the cognac.

Yes, I really like them. I remember them offering a sample if you ask (if you shop in store). Not sure if they still do though.

You can get smaller containers for many (3.5 oz/100 g).

I went to a big mall today to return something because I figured it was better to do it now than after Christmas when everyone is returning stuff. The parking lots were jammed, lots of cars circling, but I parked on the edge and walked. After my return was processed, I thought about looking around the stores, but I realized there was nothing there I wanted or needed. So I went to a specialty grocery and bought some fancy cookies and chocolate. I wore Angel’s Share. P.S. The clothing displays seem to indicate that wide-legged jeans are “in” again. Maybe I’ll buy a pair in the new year if they don’t make me look like a Hobbit.

SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays House of Burlesque Skin, Sparkles and Satin

These are 3 separate perfumes from the House of Burlesque quartet. Nice combo!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/DDxqpW0xk4V/?igsh=Y2hianl6YzVuNWhh

With some of us traveling (not me, perhaps in November 2025), here are some strategies for making long flights more restful: (I just copied the section headlines)
    1. Show up somewhat sleep-deprived
    2. Skip the onboard meals
    3. Trick yourself into sleep mode
    4. Think twice about taking sleep medications or drinking alcohol
    5. Get creative with your seat and sleeping positions
    6. Stay up once you arrive

I usually have the best intentions and I usually end up panicking 😱😱😱!

Two steps forward, one step back NST. I *thought* I had fixed my cranky Christmas lights yesterday. But today, when the timer came on, that one string of lights was oh so briefly lighted up. And then it went dark. So that’s telling me there is an intermittent short of some kind in that string. Probably a loose bulb or one that is on the way to burning out.

On the plus side, I finally got my Black Friday Fzotic goodies today, whoo hoo! Those will get unboxed at a later date. I also had a 1 oz bottle of the current Poison EdT show up. I liked it back in the day, but never purchased it.

SOTD = CK Euphoria. I got my bottle 20(!) years ago, when it first came out. Between the pomegranate and the amber, it smells Christmassy to me. Still smells really good on me, too.
